"I know a bunch of yall people saying 'this is bad for you', but I'm talking right now so don't interrupt me, because interrupting me woud be considered rude, and if you're rude to me then you should know that is also detrimental to your health, most likely more immediately. So continuing, you can eat like 4 biscuits drenched in gravy. I like to glaze them in hot sauce in a bowl and forget about them til the middle of the night while I got a Swisher Sweet hangin' off my lip and I stumble into the kitchen with my doo rag on rapping to Wu-Tang Clan after lifting weights and having oily movie sex on leopard skin sheets and just going hog wild on some young filly I met at a cookout and I'm like 'oh f*ck it's like I just went to Popeyes though.'"
Great food. Loved the tandoori chicken, butter chicken, naan, briyarni rice. Price was slightly higher but portion was more than others. Naan piece was bigger, fluffier than others which was great! Tandoori chicken was very flavorsome! Butter chicken was not too sweet, which was a plus.
We get take aways from this Restaurant at least once a week. The food is consistent and must be good if we keep going back!!!!!!!!!!! happy to be there
I have been craving Indian for aaGGGGesss, we normally have a simple meal on Fridays so it seemed like a good idea. We ordered by phone and got it delivered. It took around 40 minutes which I think is a good effort considering it was probably peek hour at the restaurant.
My parents and brother shared the following: chicken ceylon, beef madras and lamb saagwala. My dad says they were "better than average" and we were all overwhelmed (in a good way) with how much food we actually got!!
I ordered the lentil dahl with spinach (I ordered it as vegan, they are very good with dietary requirements!! Everything on the menu other than a few items, 3 I think, can be made vegan). I have never had this dish before so I was quite excited!! Despite the very spinach-greeny colour (looks can be deceiving), I really enjoyed it, so good with some bread! Very filling, I expect I'll be eating dahl for my next few meals...
We also ordered some sides, vegetable pakoras which were AMAZing. I ate so many, it was great. We also got vegetable samosas and meat samosas which were eaten so fast so they must have been tasty!! We were given two little boxes of yellow saffron rice which went well with all the meals, at no extra charge!!
Overall, really lovely and hearty dinner, I am feeling very satisfied with both the food and the service. Don't be put off by the slightly higher prices, you get so much food and it tastes super delicious! Would recommend for those who sometimes are not bothered to cook a meal but don't want a fast-food meal.
This is my favourite local Indian; which is saying a lot, because I've tried a lot of local Indian places over the years with predictably mixed results. My family used to get Indian from here when I was a kid, and even though I now live a couple of suburbs away I still sometimes make the trek over and am always delighted to find that the basics remain unchanged. Change is bad, consistency is good. As a card-carrying member of generation 'y' I'm nostalgic beyond my years, so the decade-spanning consistency of this place is a huge draw.
The prices might be slightly higher than other restaurants, but every curry comes with a complimentary saffron rice so I feel like that more than covers any price discrepancies... and I love their rice... it's yellow. Yellow rice (saffron or a close facsimile thereof) just tastes better; too many Indian places do crap yellow rice, this place should offer yellow rice cooking classes or something. Did you know that we're biologically programmed to feel hungry when we see the colour yellow? So really yellow rice is just a good business move really. Anyway, I digress...
The curries are chock full of meat so none of this 'three overly large pieces of chicken and that's it' business that I've noticed elsewhere. The pieces of meat are also an appropriate size. I hate when I have to cut up the meat in my curry to fit it into my mouth, it's extra work I frankly don't have time for; this place has me covered. They use tandoori chicken in their butter chicken, and the flavour is amazing. Not too creamy, the chicken is nice and tender and the sauce is rich and flavoursome. I'm also a big fan of the lamb saagwala. Their garlic and cheese naan is also amazing, big and fluffy... and full of cheese.
I'm aware that like 90% of reviews of Indian restaurants talk about the butter chicken and the garlic and cheese naan... and to a lesser (but no less typical extent) some type of saagwala. But let's be honest; firstly if you're the 'adventurous' foodie type you probably aren't going to rely on reviews to make an informed decision. Secondly, you don't actually exist, because we both know you're going to order a butter chicken and a garlic and cheese naan anyway. Am I wrong? You know I'm not, you're afraid of change... just like the rest of us.
But yeah, good butter chicken. A++
Rarely anyone in the restaurant, but does a roaring takeaway trade - for good reason! Very high quality Indian food. Slightly more expensive than the norm, but more than makes up for that with the excellent food.
Personally a big fan of their lamb saagwala & chicken jalfrezi. They do a great garlic naan as well... :-)
Always great service and lovely staff. Food is delicious and we frequently get 'tasters' of a small curry that we haven't ordered from the menu before. This is a little touch of extra class to keep happy customers from getting bored with their regular order and going elsewhere. Wonderful business motto for return customers. Butter chicken and cheesy garlic naan can't go wrong though ;-)
Excellent curry, complex and flavourful, fresh and delicious. I'd advise ordering on the conservative spice side- their definition of mild is definitely not a western one! Also some communication barriers when ordering, but the order taker was through in checking she had everything right. Authentic and memorable meal. Generous takeaway portions.
Beautiful food, good service, good environment and prices are ok. Everything you'd expect from a great small restaurant. Went more than once and can say we're definitely coming back. Recommend it.
Probably the best in brisbane. I know good indian, i've been to india and have several indian friends who can make better indian food than any restaurant I've been to in brisbane. I went to grand taj because it was close and had heard good things. Most indian places in brisbane are very average, mix a sauce, throw in some chopped chicken breast/beef and thats what you get. Not here, the food is beautifully cooked and has a proper full bodied flavour that is truly unique to all their dishes. The massala is a favourite of mine and I don't think i'll find anywhere that can exceed it. Any negative reviews here must be for service/decor/ambient temperatue in the restaurant because the quality of there food here is exceptional, and consistently seeing as I've been here at least 5 times. Slightly pricier than the average, but they do give you a big portion for takeaway. Im a big bloke who can eat a lot and I could only get through three quarters of the container with some left over for lunch the next day. Excellant food here, you won't be disappointed.
Favourite Indian ever! Can't beat the butter chicken. Love it
EXCELLENT Authentic Indian Food. The food is amazing and well priced.
Its never oily, and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend this place!
Regulars. The food here is good and consistent. We've been regulars for a fair while. The staff probably don't really rate a mention, but if you come for the food, then you can't go wrong here.
Good. My husband and I tried this restaurant last night since we live so close to it and have heard good things from friends who live in the area.
We walked in and there was a guy sitting up the back. I could tell he wasn't a customer but he didn't greet us either. I had to greet him first and ask for a table, he then nodded and pointed at a waitress who came up to us who again, didn't greet us but rather just smiled. For the rest of the night this waitress barely spoke and when she did, she was extremely soft spoken (she was whispering). I'm not going to critique too heavily on this as she may just be starting out and it was a Monday night so it's a good night to train newbies. The other waitress who served us was better.... Like, everything she said was good and she wasn't rude but it just wasn't in a freindly manner like what I'm used to when being served in a restaurant. But as I said, she didn't do or say anything bad.
Anyway, to the food. It was good! Not the best I've ever tasted but it is up there. We had the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, garlic and cheese naan and a lassi. What I really liked was that the butter chicken wasn't sweet. I hate it when I get sweet butter chicken. The chicken tikka masala had a great smokey flavour. The naan and the lassi were delicious.
We got our meals at a medium heat but to be honest, it was more like a mild to me. To me, a mild is (as the name suggests) a mild heat so I'm glad I didn't get a mild because it seems like there would have been no heat at all in the mild.
All in all, I don't have any complaints with the taste of the food.
4 out of 5 stars.
First time I have had Indian from Grand Taj Indian and I have to say the food is absolutely delicious. Will be making this my regular Indian Restaraunt whenever I want Indian. Cheesy garlic narn bread is amazing!!
Nice food. Good friendly service and very tasty Indian food. Best for takeaway smallish resturant for children
Found this restaurant in my entertainment book and went over after reading the reviews on here. What an awesome surprise!!! Plenty of parking, easy to get to and busy but with really great attentive and prompt service! The banquet is the best value dinner I've ever seen not to mention some of the best curry I've ever eaten in brisbane so far!! Will definitely be back and will be chuffed to pay full price this time! Excellent flavours, prices, very clean place and nice atmosphere and very nice pleasant helpful staff!!!
Yum yum. Me and my husband love love love love this restaurant. The food is wonderful and the service is always quick! I rave about this place to all my friends and I just cant get enough BUTTER CHICKEN
Very Good!. The food here is YUM! So tasty.
Very tasty great flavours! The little place is always packed.
Not too bad at all. My wife and I have been to a few Indian restaurants in Brisbane and while I wouldnt say this is the best Indian.... it certainly isnt the worst. Very welcoming staff, great service and timed entree and mains very well. We had Potato Bhonda for entre, first time to try these and I was pleasantly surprised... very tasty! Mains were Chilli Prawns and chicken tikka masala, cooked well, chicken very tender but lacked a punch in flavour. Rice a lil stodgy too if I were to be picky!
Overall not a bad place, would I go back again?? Possibly
Service 8/10
Food 7/10
Faultless. The food is excellent, service is friendly. Ali the owner is always up for a chat and claims everything (yogurt etc.) is made from scratch - and I believe it.
The restaurant is a little dated, but so is every indian restaurant and it adds to the atmosphere.
Best Indian in Brisbane!. I truly believe this place has the best indian in Brisbane. All the curries are excellent and reasonably priced. Well worth the trip for me even though I live on the other side of Brisbane. Highly recommended!!!
Ahhhmazing every time. Guaranteed to never disappoint! I have been here several times and still enjoy it every time. I am lactose intollerant and when I ask for a dish without dairy they don't hesitate, and you know its made fresh!
Highly recommend it!
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM good. I love this place so much! ALL the curries are winners vege especially. The Kashmiri Kofta Curry is the best ive ever tasted and unique, i get it every damn time. The naans are pretty good except last time mine was a bit doughy and not cooked well.. but i will let it slide, cause usually they're spot on. I love how the chefs leave some spices whole (cardamon pods, and cloves) to show that theyre not mock curries or short cutting anything. Its very flavourful food and satisfying. The owner Ali is welcoming and quite funny too.
Carry on with the great work Grand Taj :)
Delicious freshly cooked, authentic Indian cuisine. Friendly and fast service- always a great choice for Friday nights!!! Another great dinner- chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken sagwala and chicken ceylon- rice complimentary. Huge pappadums. Highly recommended!
Love it!. I love, love, love this place! I've been eating here for years - the food is fantastic and the service always friendly.
Mouthwatering. If you're after authentic Indian and not hung up with decor then try the Grand Taj. A welcoming place with great service! We started with some Naan and Paratha bread, some of the best of tried. I chose the Lamb Saagawala as my main. The aroma and flavours of spices were mouthwatering. I've been there a couple of times and have tried something different each time. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed!
The best of this type of Indian cuisine you will ever find. Ali is supreme among Indian chefs. You'll go along way to find an equal. Not only value for money but top shelf quality.
Fantastic food and service. Great price for the amount you get. One of the best tasting Indian restaurants in Brisbane.
The Grand Taj delivery is fast & the food delicious. The meal for 2 is more likely to serve 4! What really shines about this Indian Restaurant is their delivery service & most delectible starters & side dishes. Fabulous!
