Review City Winery Brisbane - Brisbane

Wesley Tudor Vasile
Trusted Pest Management just celebrated our Xmas party at this amazing venue . We had roughly 34 people . The space provided was fantastic. We had a dedicated staff member (Sophie) and she was seriously on point. Her knowledge of wines was great and her attention to detail was 5 star. The food was timed really well. We are so happy with the party outcome. I can definitely recommend this venue . 5 stars for sure

We visited City Winery for the wine tasting and lunch experience. We were given a choice between a tasting of red, whites or a mix of the two. We ended up tasting a selection of 4 wines, a mixture of red and white wines. All were great ! We loved hearing about the creation of the Knockoff wine and how the artwork on the label was made by one of their chefs! So cool ! The lunch itself was very very generous. We started off with a mixed bowl of marinated olives and a charcuterie board with a great selection of cured meats, pickles and relish. By this time we were already getting full. For the mains we have the ocean trout with greens - the fish was cooked perfectly and finished with a crispy skin. The pork was succulent and the kimchi purée was a great addition. The mains were accompanied with a bowl of the most crispiest addictive potatoes! The team at City Winery were all so lovely! Thank you for a great experience

First the good. The rosé and GSM were both really very good and come recommended. Also the fresh bread and butter were great. Then the average. The beets and the gnudi were both under-seasoned and the scallops were really just half or quarter a scallop (although they tasted very good). The pineapple dessert was also nothing special. Then the really really average. The fish was either burnt (see picture) or intentionally blackened. It definitely tasted as if it shouldn't have been intentionally blackened. I complained and got a glass of wine on the house. However, if it was burnt, it should never have been served.

Booked for the Lunch and Tasting experience for my 7th anniversary with my girlfriend. Very nice staff, good vibes and excellent potatoes 🥔. It l very easy to take a wine home if you like it which we ended up doing with the white "Knockoff Wine" which has a nice boot label with a story. Would recommend

We had the dry aged beef experience today, and were absolutely blown away! The variety and quality of the food were incredible (especially the tarragon butter and potatoes), and the staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We were even treated to wine tasting before making our selection of drinks. I'll absolutely be coming back with friends to try something new from the menu!

City Winery was amazing! Most of the food is cooked on 🔥 creating a beautiful flavours & smell😋🤤 As it is a winery, you can taste the wine before you choose which one you would like. I highly recommend the reserve Shiraz & the venue as you can't fault the food, service or wine. Also the lighting was perfect for a date night, dark with candles gives it a romantic feel. We will be back!

We availed a gift voucher for wine tasting and dinner for 2 - and we were just blown away! The four red wines we tasted were delicious, and generous servings too. We ended up buying a bottle of our favourite. You can pick between whites and reds to suit your preference. The hosts were warm and welcoming. The food was outstanding - clearly so delicious that I missed out on taking photos. We began with a charcuterie board, the pickled fresh dates (sweet, tart, spicy, great textures), pineapple relish and the prosciutto are enough reason to go back. The two mains were equally lip-smacking-good; barramundi and pork belly. A side of crispy potatoes with heavenly sour cream also arrived. After all this all we could do was pat our full bellies and try to gracefully exit City Winery as we offered our compliments to the team. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon! This is a must visit in Brisbane 🥰

Omg we ❤❤ it . The food was outstanding and the service was amazing..We are more sweet wine 🍷 🍷drinkers but we were hooked on 4 out of the 5 wines. Definitely coming back again.

Tried the 7 course degustation and matched wine with 5 friends on Friday night. It was really a shared plate menu with each dish shared between 2 diners. A LOT of explaining about the food and the wine. Honestly, a lot. The food was very basic with no standout dish. Some good combinations, cauliflower with Jerusalem artichoke, pork with beetroot. The venison carpaccio was hideously brown and vinegary. Dessert not worth eating. A few wines were good but again I was over the long winded explanation. Just leave it with me and I’ll make my own mind up about what I’m drinking or eating and really, the menu described the food adequately. So in the end I did make my mind up and landed on about 2 stars.

I'm afraid I can only give this a 2 star, as it represents so many things i'm coming to dislike about eating out. Service was fantastic, ambience nice. But the food :( six of us did the 7 course degustation. and I am SO OVER the long boring story about every dish ("your prawn's name is racheal, and she was sustainably harvested in maloolooba during a full moon by blind virgins, dusted with a rumour of heirloom blah blah ..."). Shouldn't the food speak for itself? Lovely grilled / smoked oyster, followed by a very flavourful but tough octopus (despite its being sous vide, then charred, then roasted, then taken for a walk, then read a bed time story, etc etc etc) . Dishes were so hit and miss: terrific roasted cauliflower on an artichoke puree, but the venison tartare was a near inedible mess of ingrediants (apple, black pepper) could not taste the meat! Yes the 'prawn cracker' made from tendon was clever. But . .... Pork shoulder was a bit tough / dry, and many of us just pushed the dessert aside - some sort of empanda filled with balsamic onion and ... cheese? oh, horrible. It was very much a case of over-promise and under-deliver. So much fuss over mostly unsuccesfull dishes. And I'm sorry, the matched wines were very limited, if a few nice flavours. For that money, I want to lick my lips, there are better options in brisbane

Drove past this winery last weekend that recalled my experience to have an impressive dinner with my daughter couple of months ago.
It was my recommendation to my daughter about the menu here and the whole night did not let us down.
It was quite a busy night for weekday’s dinner. We ordered the smoked mussels and octopus for entrees with grilled pork and steak for the mains. Loved the presentation of all the dishes. Brown rice wafers accompanied with the smoked mussels were very crispy and well matched with the mussels. Octopus looked great. Needless to say, grilled protein is the chef’s forte, which show-cases the top level of culinary skills of the chefs.
It was another full mark case as the same as my first dining experience.
Previous rating: Sep 2019 5/5

Made a reservation for a weekend dinner with the partner. Since it was a relatively slow night, the chefs kindly accommodated the 'chef's banquet' at $75pp for us (usually minimum of four people).
We started with amuse bouche of mushroom pate sandwiched between crispy sweet potato wafers. Following this were the padron peppers and the charcuterie board. For mains, we had the pork (deliciously moist and tender) and the beef.
Service was efficient and friendly, and provided good wine selections. Casual ambience - walk ins within the front cellar/bar section and lovely intimate dining area at the back. Reasonable prices.
Overall, a lovely dining experience.

Second on our Brisbane Wine Bar crawl was City Winery, an urban winery located within Fortitude Valley. With a focus on locally sourced food, it was a rare find in the CBD, and brought back a few memories of my experiences at the Three Blue Ducks at Byron. We found the themed corkscrew menu to be tres adorable. The menu apparently changes frequently with what is seasonal at that time. Without too much segregation, there were a selection of small dishes, large dishes and sides.

A fantastic winery and restaurant in one of the best streets in Brisbane. The wines here are phenomenal and the service is to match. A fabulous selection of cheeses, olives and bread to tuck into while enjoying their beautiful natural wine.

I'm looking forward to returning and enjoying the scrumptious looking restaurant food!

Fantastic experience dining here for the first time. We were lucky to meet the wine maker and artist Kris, who was able to pair wines with all our dishes.

The wine highlight was the Gerler 2017 Grenache ‘death box’ which had a lovely carbonic effect from being fermented within a small shipping container high in CO2 from the ferment.

My recommendations from the menu are probably the smoked mussels, venison and organic sheep. The red meats here are particularly excellent due to the use of a wood fired char grill. With the smoky flavours really standing out!

I also loved the sticky banana pudding which was the perfect finish to the meal 👌

Also spotted the famous foodie Ronnielui2003 dining here! - so cool to catch up 😎

Lovely to have Kris, the wine maker, sharing her wine making stories with us. Lovely wine tasting experience before our lovely entree arrived.
The soufflé definitely surprise me with feijoa ice cream underneath the soufflé 😋

We are invited to dinner by Owner Adam and as we walk down the length of Brisbane’s first Winery Restaurant, I can see the impressive floor space it occupies. Manager Arabella provides me with an overview of this 5 month old establishment. Wine is mostly sourced from the Barossa, all meats including the Grass Fed Beef and Charcuterie meats are dried and prepared in-house, so are the breads and yoghurts. Herbs are grown outdoors!

Bartender Adam’s Arabella Spritz and NY Sour are pretty and refreshing. We happily sip on our Cocktails while Executive Chef Travis spins his magic in the kitchen. I love the smokey flavour of wood fire grilling and all the meats/seafood here are char grilled.

Our meals are beautifully presented and the Mains are accompanied with two sides, Grilled Vegetables and Crunchy Roast Potatoes.

* Charcuterie Board prepared by Chef Callum comes with three cured meats, pickles, fresh salad and buttered Sourdough toast. This is an excellent Appetiser that whets our appetites. Rating: 4.5

* Market Fish Nannygai is grilled skin-on, an excellent idea as it keeps the fish moist and tender. We love eating fish with grilled fish skin. Served with grilled Squash, Blood Orange and a tangy creamy Beurre Blanc, this meal is the table favourite. Rating: 5

* Organic Killarney Beef comprises Sirloin Steak grilled medium-rare and a tender piece of slow-cooked Chuck Steak, served with grilled Onions, Shitake and Oyster Mushrooms. Matched with a glass of Grenache Mataro, this Shiraz complements this meaty meal. Rating: 4.5

* Dessert is a Sticky Banana Pudding, Caramelised Banana and Date Ice Cream. And a Cafe Latte. This is a delicious dessert and we savour Arabella’s intense full flavoured coffee. Rating: 4.5

We are grateful to Adam for your dinner invitation. And we commend Arabella who is delightful, knowledgeable and gracious. We had a wonderful evening and we thank the City Winery Team for your hospitality. Good luck everyone!

With... Daaaaamnnnn the crunchy potatoes are the bomb dot com. The architecture is on point 😉 (love the art in the dining room too). The wines are amazing, of course.

I know that I love wine, but I'm more than in love with the City Winery. A fantastic fusion of quality food, that is both simple and complex. Wine being those brought to life by the Gerler brand, are broadcasting a change in Brisbane, that cannot be refused.
Thank you to David for spending some time talking to us (I'm sure you were flat out!) about your beautiful wines. Bring on the best winery and food experience Brisbane has ever seen.!
Thank you.
