Review Aspley Hotel - Brisbane

Lamb shank was just what I wanted on a chilly evening. It was very tasty and I would definitely order this again.

We had a meal there tonight after not going for about a year and the meals were terrible. The steaks were overcooked, the salad was terrible and the sauce was very average. My son’s pepperoni pizza was almost inedible and had about 5 pieces of pepperoni and absolutely smothered in cheese and the base was not cooked. The service was fantastic and lovely staff. A pity the meals were very average and the highlight was the garlic bread.

I've had lunch here a few times before, and always been very good. However on this occasion I ordered the 400 gram, 150 day aged rump steak. Although it was cooked to perfection, unfortunately it was tuff and difficult to cut with the supplied steak knife. Disappointing 😞

We, 12 of us booked a mothers day lunch. Was very busy. Can't complain with the way we all got our meals at the same time. All the meals were nicely presented. Afraid to say my chicken scitz. was very cold. Didn't want to make a scene till after everyone had eaten. I did mention to a staff member. Sorry guys.😡

Had the Wednesday night special 400 gram rump, salad and chips. Not impressed. Waited for ages for meal whilst others that came after us got theirs before we did. First couldn’t get any gluten free chips (ok) asked for the gluten free sweet potato chips which state they are GF on menu only to be told no they are not gluten free. Had to settle for extra salad which didn’t happen. Then asked where the salad was for the 2 other plates which had none (someone messed up order). Sons steak was tough and could barely chew through it. Ordered bbq sauce then to be told they ran out after fact. Cmon guys surely you can do better than this mediocre meal?

Amazing pub food. Great menu with weekday specials and a fun happy hour.

Friendly staff. Good selection of pokies. Food is quite good although the wait is like an hour for steak Santa and it wasn't busy.

Great atmosphere and the staff very helpful with dietary requirements for our meals. Well done to everyone

Honestly this place sucks. Plain and simple. It is dominated by rude service staff that can't communicate a single point without sounding like a jerk. We have been here a few times and normally don't have a huge problem in the restaurant, but a lady named Leigh served us yesterday and I have never been so disgusted by a persons service skills. She was aggressive and totally ruined the experience.
The staff make drinks at an absolute snails pace and there was so much noise coming from the bar that we could hardly hear ourselves talking to each other. This place is chaos and might be great for some bogan hicks who enjoy cheap beers and a steak, but don't go if you actually have self respect and don't want to be abused by the waitress.

Attended Aspley Hotel Wednesday night just gone and ordered 2 x 250 gram rump steak meals, one with salad and chips and the other with vegetables.
Well both my wife and I agreed that the two steaks which were about 40 mm thick were excellent and as good as the Norman Hotel Annerley serves up for almost half the price. Chips were good, salad was basic and needs olives cheese etc but was still good. Vegetables according to my wife were very good. I had a schooner of light Hahn which was cold as and excellent.
Will reattend and take our grown up girls and grandchildren.
Best rump for a long time. Has been about 5 years since we were last there. Meals cost $20 at night.

I've never really been a big fan of pub grub but tonight was a new low! The piece of charcoal served to me as BBQ ribs was perhaps the worst meal I have eaten in my life. Firstly, the "waitress" couldn't even confirm if it was a full rack or half rack, she had to take it back to the "chef" to check. The stub end was literally a piece of blackened carbon and was totally inedible. I guess my first clue should have been that "slow cooked" ribs were served with a steak knife (I'm not joking here).

I get it... it's pub food, but I can get great quality dishes at hundreds of real restaurants around Brisbane for less than the $35 I paid for this shit!

Never dine here!!!

This review is about the type of establishment this is, given its claim to be a family-friendly place. My friend took the attached photo of a vending machine in the men's bathroom at the Aspley Hotel when he visited a couple of weeks ago. He raised his concerns with me about the impression he felt it gave men when they went into the bathroom. As a result of his concerns, and my agreement with those concerns, I wrote to the Aspley Hotel, to ask them to withdraw from supplying this type of product due to our belief that the way it is marketed encourages the culture of violence (particularly sexual violence) against women. They responded, dismissing the concerns raised and advising they did not agree that this type of marketing encourages sexual violence against women. They argued that this product sits alongside condoms in the vending machine and it is no different. However, this product is not like condoms which are marketed in public bathrooms in the interests of public health. The implication of the way this is product is marketed is that women will be sexually attracted to the man that buys it, creating the expectation that the man will get sex. That makes it an adult product which should be restricted to licensed adult shops where people expect to see these types of products, rather than being found randomly in a local family hotel, in a bathroom that people under the age of 18 use. In its refusal to look at the bigger picture of how this type of product contributes to the toxic culture we are all trying to deal with that encourages violence against women, I do not believe the Aspley Hotel is exercising adequate social responsibility. Blend this attitude with the unpredictable effect of the alcohol it serves to individuals, I believe this poses an unacceptable risk to women and families who enter, and I cannot recommend it as a suitable venue to go to.

Postscript 13 July 2018. I have changed my rating of this establishment from 1 to 4 and removed the photo. While the management at Aspley Hotel dismissed my concerns when I raised them, the owners of the hotel did not. I received a commitment to remove this product and a commitment to continue to review the type of products that are made available in their venues, with a view to managing their social responsibility. Thank you for being part of the solution and helping us all the manage the challenges of our community.

Ordered a Caesar salad, got given a bowl of deep fried bread minus a poached egg, and minimal amount of actual
lettuce. Had a cocktail “Long Island ice tea”. Absolutely no Coca Cola was added and tasted bitter as a lemon. Was told
By the manager he made them himself. Showed him the drink which was see through. He still tried to tell me he added Coca Cola. Worst salad I’ve ever had to eat. And worst drink I’ve ever not drunk. Worst manager and I’ve been in hospitality for 18 years. So I think I’ve got a reason here.

Over all the experience was ok! Staff are friendly and very helpful. May because they only had a few tables to deal with. Food came out quite fast and was of a good standard. Bit over price for a local pub but they do offer a daily special even on weekends.

I had a great meal here today, the meals are presented beautifully and have so much flavour. I had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly and the egg was nice and runny. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other dishes next time!

We went to the Aspley hotel last night & had a great night, courteous staff & excellent food. We would highly recommend the hotel & though the food quality was very good as well. Congrats

Don't bother.. For a suburban pub the meals are very expensive. The surroundings are average. We have had a few meals here in the past but in the last 12 months the prices have risen dramatically equalling a 1st class restaurant which this hotel isn't. The menu is below average and what menu does'nt have any fish dishes. We definitely won't return.

Disappointing. I took 14 neighbours there for Sunday Christmas lunch. Several ordered the senior meals which were so tiny and an embarrassment for me. I had the fish, one piece, as big as a prawn, lettuce, tomato and cucumber without dressing and a few chips. Several men ordered the lambs fry. The liver was as big as a tablespoon. The chef needs to know seniors do have an appetite!!! Will have to search elsewhere for our next get together. I chose there as I had previously had excellent food.

This place is great. The staff were fantastic. For a pub meal this is one of the best I've had in brisbane.

GREAT food and even better atmosphere. The new layout of the bistro is just fantastic! Great live music while we ate dinner and the kids had a blast in the kids area. Compliments to the chef and the staff! We will return!

Delightful!. The Aspley has defiantly taken it up a notch!
We sat in the new outdoor eating area with some family and friends.
We all had an exceptional time together.. food was delicious! Service was great! And the soloist added a great atmosphere to the area.
Would defiantly go back.

Terrible - cold and steak not cooked to liking. Bruschetta grose with no topping and cold. Drive on by.

USE TO BE GOOD. Use to eat here often, my husband and I went for lunch a couple of weeks ago, we ordered the steak (medium), order took about half an hour to come out even though the place was not that busy, my steak was overcooked and very dry no sign of any juice on plate. The replacement steak was passable but still no juice on steak, husband's steak was passable. The last place we had dried steaks was at Stafford Tavern and haven't been back either.

Average. We had dinner here on a Saturday night with family. We chose this place as we had a voucher in the Entertainment book. The first thing we noticed when walking in the door was how loud the live music was - just one guy on the guitar - so we asked to be seated as far away as possible from him but it was still hard to hear across the table. Meals took 45 mins to get to us & my steak was so full of gristle I couldn't finish it. The others steaks were fine though. Diane gravy was to die for as well. Overall the decor is quite bland & is still quite 'pubby'. An average experience & won't return.

Terrible! We ordered steaks and every single one was not cooked to what we asked for. One of us ordered the spaghetti marinara, looked and tasted terrible. The meals took forever and the service was terrible from the staff. We won't be going back again!

Great For The Family. I visit the Aspley Hotel nearly every second Sunday for the 'Family Fun Day' and my daughter has a great time. They have a different activity every week - Jumping Castle, Magician, Dress-Ups and the list goes on...
The food and service is pretty good for a pub/hotel.

Used to be good, not so much anymore. This is my local and up until fairly recently it was quite good. Disappointingly though, it seems to be on a downward spiral.

Husband and I visited for the first time in a while a couple of weeks ago and we ordered the steak and fish respectively. Husband's steak was good but small, but my fish of the day was overcooked and lacking all but a tiny amount of the promised hollandaise sauce. We visited again tonight and Husband ordered the steak again and I the sand crab lasagne. Again the steak was the small but the lasagne was in a league of its own - crab shell in almost every bite and thoroughly disappointing. The only positive was that we got one of the meals free using an Entertainment Book voucher.

Hoping this place can return to its old form or we won't be back again anytime soon.
