We ordered my son’s first birthday cake here and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered the large celebration mud cake. The photo we submitted came out beautifully on the cake. All our guests enjoyed the cake and said it reminded them of the nostalgic mud cake from their childhood days. The whole process of ordering online was smooth. I will definitely be coming back to try the other flavours.

I don't like giving negative reviews but I live in the area and for the past 8 years I've been giving them plenty of chances. Unfortunately on most occasions they dissapoint.
Their full size cakes are nice but that's where it ends. I've had stale muffins on more than one occasion and almond croissants that taste like a chemical flavour. Most of their other items just don't have the flavour and nice texture you would expect.
For the price you pay it really needs to be better quality. Much better around these days.

Have been a regular at this place for many years but the quality has diminished over the last few months. The sweet pastries, bread and cakes all look nice and quality is still good; the hot pastries can be hit-and-miss, both meat pie, sausage roll and German hotdog have a strange taste at times (don't want to say here what it tasted like). Must say that I did pick up a beesting cake recently and it was delicious. A good place to get some authentic German bakery goods but this place just doesn't attract me to go there that often anymore and isn't the way it used to be.

We have been celebrating our birthdays with the Death by Chocolate cake for 3 years now and it really is the best I have ever eaten from anywhere.

MOULD!!! My husband purchased some hot cross buns yesterday and specifically asked if they had been baked that day and was reassured by staff they were fresh. As my 1 year old daughter started taking a bite I looked down at the packet and saw the mould on the bottom of the buns. I will be reporting my complaint to the relevant authorities and strongly suggest people reconsider buying from this bakery.

Review changed because the sourdough we used to buy is not produced anymore. Last time I was disappointed because even so I called for hand, ordered and I drove a long distance, only to hear we are not selling it any more. At the phone I was told yes we keep to bread for you.
Excellent, traditional bakery with high and consistent standards. The sourdough bread reflects this quality and emphasis on healthy alternatives. The cafe has nice coffee and a great selection of pastries and pies to choose from. The atmosphere is friendly and the service prompt. A great place to relax and connect with friends. The quality of the cappuccino varies

Went to King of Cakes today, wanted to order and pay for two items, to be picked up on Sunday. - Cherry Danish and a Esterhazy cake. Told that no I can either take it with me today, or come back Sunday to see if they still have these items. Cannot order today because it is Friday and they need three working days. Staff not helpful - she stood her ground take it today or come back on Sunday and hope they still have these items. Very disappointing. Staff might need training on how to deal with the paying custome.

The store was nice. Clean and tidy and had a good range of food.
The pies are a little pricey for me ($7 odd) but it was tasty.

Came here in the morning and was warmly greeted by the staff. We were inundated by the sheer number of choices, but the staff were lovely and happy to talk to us about their selection. Unfortunately, the Almond croissant and cheese Danish were really dense and resembled bread more than an aerated, chewy pastry. The cinnamon bretzel was flavourful and sweet, but was a tad dry. Its a decent place to visit if you're in the area, but not the best pastries I've had.

I used to be a regular for about 3 years before I moved to a far away suburb. Eating here kinda gives that nostalgic feeling about Germany. Almond croissant, Brezel and orange tea cake are definitely a must try. The last time I was there (2 months ago), they had more variety of savoury pastries which tasted good.

My review is only based on a cake I tried from King of cakes called death by chocolate. This was one of the best cakes I’ve ever had. The chocolate melted in my mouth in each bite. It was magnificent.

I walked past its sibling at Nundah couple of weeks ago and it was closed so made it trip to explore this branch in the morning. Arrived when it just started its trading for the day. When I walked in, there was already a gentleman standing in front of the counter and could not decide what to have. In fact, it is not surprised to see such situation happening in this bakery because there are so many bakery items and sweet treats available. Fortunately, I made up my mind very quick to have a triangle and a flat white for dine-in. It did not take a long time to have everything ready on the table. Coffee was made of Di Bella, which was strong enough with above average standard. Pastries of the Triangle was crispy, however, if it has been warmed up enough, marks would be definitely higher in this review.

An institution in Taringa, which I had not visited for years. This bustling bakery is great for coffee, bakery items and sweets. The decor of this place is dated and in need of a refurb, but it really doesn't matter.

King of Cakes is our local and it's awesome - go there. The coffee is always good and we generally just get a croissant but the hot bakery food is great too. You can't really go wrong with anything from their huge range.

Over the years I have enjoyed a number of cakes from King of Cakes for various work celebrations - being so close to UQ, it's a firm favourite. I also love their pretzels, but had never really thought too much about reviewing them.

Well this morning I have to change that because I have just been treated to one of the most delicious cakes I've ever eaten - an Esterhazy. Layers of meringue, nougat, butter cream and sponge - I have never encountered anything quite like it. I shall now dream of this cake - and believe me, I am NOT a cake person at all - but I shall be seeking this baby out again because that was truly life-changing.

Sorry no photos, we gobbled it down way too quickly for that to happen. Seriously get yourself there and get one ... now ... thank me later!

We have been there a few times before and were there yesterday at about 12.45. Food is always good, no question. Service is usually good but not so yesterday. They close at 1.30pm but had already mopped the floor when we arrived. Maybe they were understaffed but I had the impression the staff just wanted to leave at 1.30. Closing at 1.30 doesn't mean staff leaving at 1.30 if that, in turn, means poor customer service. Will give another chance.

Dreadful. One of the worst coffee in Brisbane area. The cakes are just as bad.

Dreadful. My family and I are from Germany and we were very disappointed with the food there. The bread and pretzels were dry and not one bit enjoyable - it was nothing compared to a real German bakery. We have tried king of cakes a couple of times now and every time I felt like i was served old and stale pastries and bread. Just wanting to let everyone know that this is not what German food is like.

Diana. Don't know if they were having an off day but the day I had coffee here it was a bit wishy washy. Passable enough to finish it but nothing great at all. The cakes however are another story, but I was expecting to see a much larger variety on display. Hey I am not complaining they tasted great

Better cake shops in Brissy. Have tried most of the cake and pastry range thanks to lots of office birthdays and morning teas :D Most are yummy. You wont be disappointed.

Great coffee and delicious pastries. I'm adding my vote for great coffee, especially during the week when their main guy barista is in. The pastries are really tasty. I particularly love the cherry plunders; they're a little bit sour which counters the decadent sweetness. My partner looooves the almond croissants and the carrot cake muffins. I also like to get a cinnamon stars - they go great with the coffee. My only complaint with this place is the coffee gets a teensy bit inconsistent on the weekends. Other than that, they have a great selection of sweets, savories and breads. They even a few German sausages/kranskies in the fridge.

Coffee tastes like dish water. I don't mean to hate but the coffee i had the other day here tasted dreadful. I'm not sure the little chick knew what she was doing. Plus the sandwiches were nothing great either. Which is a pity. they use to taste hella great about a year ago.

Consistently good coffee. Try the sausage rolls too.

Good food. Great bakery food.
Also very good catering service.

Been to KoC plenty of times and the coffee has been consistently very good. Their cakes & breads are also high quality - made on site. I recommend the cherry / apple / apricot Danishes and the goulash pie (real chunky steak pieces). Service is average but coffee & food make up for it :)

The Sandwichs are to die for! It shows that a lot of effort and love is put into preparing them.
