Review Miss Kay's Mitchelton - Brisbane

I was here with a friend on New Years day for lunch. Despite just opening and being busy, the staff were extremely friendly and had great customer service. The food itself when it came out tasted great. Definitely worth a trip if your in the area.

My new favourite burger place in Queensland. Tried most of them and I enjoyed this more than Betty's and Betty's is pretty darn good. The burger was a decent size and the meat parties were huge, meaty and juicy. The fries and shakes were also unreal. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating and a bar if you feel like a drink. Great place. Will definitely be back!

Thought I'd try this place after hearing such good reviews about how good the burgers are etc. Waited 40 mins for my burger was nearly going to ask for a refund as I was waiting so long and it wasn't very busy , food finally came out, don't know what took so long and don't know what the rave is about this place. I took one bite and that was enough for me. The meat patty was disgusting I had to take it off the burger and bring it home for my dogs it was that gross. Definitely wouldn't reccomend and won't be back. Overpriced as well. $16.50 for a double cheese burger with no flavour

Terrible. Ordered takeaway from Mitchelton - see pic of my burger - paid $15 for that and it looks nothing like the pics on their website (definitely didn't taste great either). GF bun - it was old, stale & tasted terrible. Chips were cold & tasted horrible (I live 5 mins away & ducked out during my lunch break to quickly grab it). Can't say I was impressed with the service either - I would not recommend this burger place to anyone. So many other burger places in the area - I wish I'd just stuck to one of them instead. I ended up throwing most of it away

Was very disappointed after reading such great reviews of this store. The only reason this isn’t a 1 star is because they staff were above and beyond and extremely friendly and helpful. The food was disappointing my burger (mk burger) was SWEET as can be and left my stomach turning the fries has no taste besides oil and the fact that the chips with a dip cost almost $8 left my mind blown. Can’t say we will be back but thank you to the staff for doing a great job!

Burgers are tasty, bit pricey but overall no huge complaints on the food department. Good location and vibes to dine with friends. Waiters come off as obnoxious it was close to closing though

Milkshakes are soo yummy!! Service was friendly, it's a really great place.

Ordered through Uber eats to collect. Around 4 groups of customers sitting in the restaurant, three standing at the front counter. Two staff out the front. The lady was busy adjusting something on the eftpos terminal and didn’t help to address the people waiting at the front or look at us in acknowledgement. The man eventually got to me and I advised him of my order. I was given the order and left as I was in a hurry to get it home before my partner had to leave for work from his lunch break. Once arrived I realised the soft drink can was missing. Once we tucked in, I felt very disappointed. The fries were stone cold, the shake was lacklustre, the chicken burgers we specified not to have pineapple on, both had pineapple and were soggy. My cheeseburger was not very tasty and the meat had hard grisly bits in it that I had to spit out. The chicken wings were crispy but not hot enough. The cheese sauce was not tasty whatsoever and was thrown out immediately. For $81 I felt extremely disappointed and that my money was wasted. When I rang to advise the can was missing from the order, I was given a sincere apology from the lady on the phone but was not given any solutions on how to rectify this problem, apart from returning to get the can or to get a credit next time I came in. More apologies after that and was just told to call Uber eats to lodge a complaint. A simple refund through their eftpos terminal over the phone would be a simple way to rectify the issue and I wouldn’t be as annoyed, but considering they charge $4.50 for a can of soft drink, and the meals were pretty much completely inedible, I feel really disappointed and annoyed that I have to now waste time chasing Uber eats for a refund for the can.

Been here twice now and it has fast become our favourite place. Super friendly staff, such an excellent and happy atmosphere. Very high service standards. The food is awesome and a great price for the amount you get too. We love the seasoning on the chips, and the vegan burgers are so good. Another bonus is that it is dog friendly in the outdoor area. Highly recommend.

Ordered a burger and onion rings, just wasn’t up to standard of most burger places around. Burger was small for the price and onion rings were overcooked. They didn’t include any sauce so I had to go back for that

Hadn’t had Miss Kay’s in a while so thought I’d refresh my memory, and also I was just reeeeally craving a good dirty burger. Wasn’t busy at all when we turned up at around 6pm. Staff were friendly and we didn’t wait too long for our food. We both ordered the OG Burger (added cheese to mine), a side of fries and a lemonade. First opinion - looked like it would be a dry burger, and at first it did seem like it, but once you really got into it, the sauce made everything stick (or maybe it was the addition of the cheese), which is exactly what I want from a dirty burger. The fries were really good as well. Overall wasn’t extremely wowed, but still definitely satisfied my cravings.

Dined early for a family dinner with the kids one Friday and were pleased this meant we'd catch happy hour drink prices! The beers aren't as good as they have been before but they've still got at least a few decent craft beer options which is great. The beer towers are a novelty but also good value during happy hour.

The staff were good-ish, they did forget our beer order and took a while to bring it out and some seemed like their minds were elsewhere but for the most part service was fine.

Burgers were served extremely quickly, fresh and delicious. It's great how much flavour these burgers pack in and I'm never disappointed. While I tend to gravitate towards the regular menu, it's great there's always a tasty sounding special burger to try each month too. The chips have a great spice mix added and were crispy and hot. Overall it was a tasty meal and a great burger. We will definitely return again soon.

The first visit was wonderful. The second was horrible. The first visit had a good feel, friendly service and enjoyable food. On our second visit we were served very stale gluten free the buns. Being non confrontational we ate the burgers but can't go back again....just not knowing whether we would again be served crumbling, dry, hard to swallow buns (very unlike our first experience). One of the worst meals I've ever been served unfortunately. BTW, as a coeliac, gluten free food is my only option.

Miss kays has nice decor and seating lay out, plus staff are always pretty friendly. The food is always a bit off, we’ve been here many times and the other consistently good item are the milkshakes (which used to be quite expensive but they’ve dropped the price- but I haven’t been since) Nice chips if you’re into French fries but can sometimes come cold. The burgers are just burgers, we try to order the specials but none of them have been over the top special. They’re open late which is really convenient and I’m yet to have their loaded fries (a specialty of mine) but have hope they’re good.

Absolutely great burgers! Extremely delicious food, I would highly recommend coming here on Friday nights as it has a great atmosphere. BTW this is not by Ms Kays, Im just a customer who really enjoyed this food.

I'm not going back here ever again.. I don't eat raw mince like in their cheese burgers and I don't eat raw chicken like in their sweet BBQ chicken wings.. Poor service,, poor food I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice... I wonder how long they'll last..

I had a grilled chicken burger, called Get Clucked. The bun was fresh (and not sweet); the chicken came with pineapple, guacamole, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Possibly the guac. didn't make it to my burger, but I enjoyed this one. I even felt slightly virtuous after eating it. No greasy, lingering sweetness, just fresh ingredients.

Mr P. who often goes vego when out, chose this spicy tempura cauliflower burger. He really enjoyed it, though once again the batter was a bit oily for his taste. He loved the quirkiness of this one, with lettuce, tomato, tomato chilli and sour cream added to the mix. He loved the generous amount of cauliflower, and the spicy batter. And he always likes relish or sauce so the chilli relish (?) went down well.

Thursday night 7pm, good atmosphere, lots of diners and appears puppy dog friendly. Ordered dirty fries which were ordinary. Comes with a squiggle of tomato chilli sauce and a bit of cheese sauce - not nearly enough for the amount of fries. Also not served with cutlery and very hard to eat with fingers alone. No napkins in sight. The burgers were nice and had I not ordered the dirty fries I would have rated Miss Kays at Mitchelton higher based on the burgers. There is also only one option for kids which is a cup containing about 3 nuggets and some fries, so that was a bit disappointing.
I had been looking forward to going to Miss Kay’s for so long but unfortunately I left very disappointed to the point where I won’t be returning.
The atmosphere was great so that’s one thing they had going for them, with live music and a large projector screen to keep you entertained.
Great selection of drinks including cocktails, milkshakes, beers. I decided I o order one of their peanut butter milkshakes, nothing special and something I could have whipped up at home.
I had ordered the dirty fries, the poutine burger, and Miss Kay’s original wings.
After about a 40 minute wait we finally got our food!
The dirty fries was ordinary, a small splashing of the cheese sauce which went hard the longer it was left, and sparing additions of the tomato sauce did not help much.
The burgers, well nothing to rave about with their buns, just your average Joe buns. I feel like they have tried to stack a billion and one ingredients on a burger, but each magical ingredient contradicts with the next. Try going a bit more simpler with your flavour combos...
Lastly, their wings, I would be very surprised to here that they make their own wings. These certainly weren’t terrible but there was nothing special about these.
All in all a great vibe to the place I just feel the food lacks greatly!

Very very very slow service, It’s shockingly bad at how slow it is.The food is quite good. I would recommend go elsewhere if you have less than hour spare.

Have been to the Mitchelton store twice. First time was soon after they had opened and was very disappointed. Buns were stale, LudaKrisp chicken soaked in oil and cold, pulled pork burger incredibly dry, long wait and poor service. Thought we'd try again tonight, but at 7.15pm were told that the wait on OG burgers was at least 40minutes. No, thanks...drove to Newmarket for Grill'd, and was home and finished eating before the 40minutes was up. Disappointing all round as I like to support local business and the city store is fantastic. For Miss Kay's go to the city store, Mitchelton store will just make you hangry... 40 minutes for a cheeseburger...why????!!!

The key to a good burger is adhering to the core principles of burger architecture. First and foremost, the bun is probably the most crucial aspect to a good burger. I've tried a lot of burgers, both cheap and expensive. The buns that Miss Kays use for the foundation of their burgers are faultless, not overly spongy and they hold up well when you bite into them. There is nothing worse than taking a bite out of your burger and seeing it crumble in your hands like a skycraper built on quicksand.

The second rule to any burger is knowing how to cook the ingredients. For beef burgers, you want the beef patty to be cooked medium and have a slight pinkness to it. The quality of the beef being used for the patties is also highly important (not overly fatty, but enough fat to keep it moist and hold it together), the thickness of the patty also is a crucial factor in retaining moisture in the beef. The same thing applies for chicken, even if you are frying it in oil, knowing how to prepare it beforehand is important. The Ludakrisp in particular (my favourite) appears to have been authentically bathed in buttermilk and seasoned appropriately, ensuring the chicken is tenderised and is moist.

The quality of the ingredients at Miss Kay's is fantastic, I can't really think of any other fast food place that could do better.

The second last fundamental aspect of any soundly architected burger is the construction and order of ingredients. Any good chef or burger restaurant will tell you that the order of ingredients is just as important as the ingredients themselves. Put that piece of lettuce in the wrong spot and you've committed a burger sin. Fortunately, Miss Kay's seems to have nailed the placement of the ingredients.

Last, but not least: the sides. A great burger needs some fries and the fries at Miss Kay's are awesome.
Nicely seasoned and cooked properly.

I would rate this place a 5, but I've knocked off one star because of the price. A great venue if you want a burger and fries, and a sneaky beer or two to go along with it.

Awesome food, awesome environment, friendly staff, love the milk shakes, had the footy on the big screen, what else could u want. Footy burgers and beer

A bit and miss, unfortunately. Ordered the Mac Daddy with virtually no mac and cheese on it. Phoned up to give feedback and got no response back. The loaded fries are pretty good though.

Get Clucked burger was juicy and yummy. Burger was one of the best I have had in a long time. Onion rings large but way too greasy. Loaded fries were disappointing as the cheese sauce was too runny. But I will go back to try their burgers. Whoops forgot to mention the Milli Vanilli milkshake was yummy but a bit overpriced.

Its good to find a decent burger on the north side for once. First time here with the family and what a great feed it was. The OG Burger and Ludacrisp for myself and the wife, kids a couple of cheeseburgers. Definitely not your rubbish fast food burgers these actually had flavour!!! Fries and some great big onion rings for sides and some nice cold drinks from the bar. Well done team.

Love a burger. And if you want a cheap but quality feed this is the place. Don't get me wrong the burgers are yummy and naughty, the wings are also good as well as the fries and onion rings. This place is a great addition to mitchelton and brings a bustling vibe to Blackwood street which is what the locals I'm sure have been waiting for. They offer awesome beer towers and live music which makes for a great atmosphere. #burgersforlife

There is a tradition with my volleyball team that at the end of each season we get together for burgers. Luckily this season we have had a few byes, which give us more opportunities to explore the offerings around Brisbane.

Our most recent burger catch up was at Miss Kay's Mitchelton. With ample seating both inside and out and, just as importantly, good lighting for photography it has a welcoming presence on Blackwood Street. Service and knowledge of the staff was really good. We were warmly welcomed when we entered the establishment, and the staff were more than happy to rearrange table settings to suit our needs.

Speed of service once our orders were taken was ideal, and it was great to experience all the food arriving at the same time.

I ordered the burger of the month, which is currently the White Buffalo Burger, and I must say it is a good-un! Buffalo Chicken, Twists, Lettuce, Tomato, Jalapeños & MK Roquefort Dressing on a toasted Brioche Bun, just divine! Ordered with a side of onion rings which are in my top two onion rings in Brisbane. The rest of the team ordered the MK Special which features Beef Patty, Maple Bacon, Onion Rings, American Cheese, Lettuce, Pickle, Mayo & Sweet BBQ Sauce. From the mildly joy-gasmic groans, I gathered it is a rather enjoyable burger.

To complement the burgers, onion rings and fires, there is also a small selection of craft beer on tap and a large range of bottled beer to choose from. If beer isn't your thing, awesome milkshakes are also created in front of your very eyes! Definitely a burger joint that I will make an effort to go back to, an awesome experience. Besides, there is always the burger challenge to consider...

Well this joint is right round the corner from work and I don't know how I haven't been there sooner!!! Miss Kay's is tucked away on Blackwood Street, Mitchelton with ample parking in vicinity of the shop. The American theme is hip and fun! During this visit I treated myself to a Cee Lo Mint Milkshake and the Ludacrisp burger! Both were just so delicious. So glad there is such a groovy burger joint in the heart of Mitchie!!!!

Great to have a burger cafe in the suburbs. Menu choices are great and we have tried a variety of different burgers, and haven't been disappointed. Just what you want out of this kind of restaurant (it's not fine dining, but that's not what you come here for). The onion rings are delicious- thick cut, with a light, fresh batter.
Food comes out quite quickly, although you may have to line up to order on busy nights. Staff are a young group but are friendly and helpful.
Well stocked bar & great happy hour specials on Fridays.
Went there for takeaway on a Saturday night at 7pm, place was packed! Line to order was out the door, almost decided to go somewhere else. I'm glad I stayed. Waited in line for 15 mins to order, only had to wait 10 mins for my food. Service was attentive and very helpful. I got the cheeseburger with a side of fries and aoli. Burger was delicious! Would definitely eat here again!

AMAZING burgers and friendly staff! Perfect for family and friends. Additionally, an awesome range of cocktails and drinks to chose from. Best burger place in the area !

Love this place! There are no other burgers as far as I am concerned - this is perfection! If you are on a diet - avoid like the plague. However, if it is your cheat day and you really want to fall in love - get here! The Poutine Buger is a must!

Doesn't pretend to be anything other than a burger and beer joint and if that's your expectation, you won't be disappointed. Great american style burgers, fries, ridiculous milkshakes and booze. Great happy hour prices with towers of beer you can get at your table.

The Food service was super quick and my burger was awesome! The staff were really friendly and helpful also. The beer was reasonably priced also
Hayley
Busy place, but the service was quick. Limited menu options. If you want dirty burgers and greasy fries, onion rings and wings, as well as milkshakes that should be desserts (they do bring all the boys to the yard!), then this is the place to be.

Pros: good location, good setup and atmosphere, food was very tasty! Good menu.
Cons: burnt coffee, waited 30 minutes + for food, had to ask for water, not told of menu changes until after ordering and didn't receive what was specified on the menu/board and was told by staff "we changed the menu but haven't put it up yet".
Robert Smith
Pros
Diverse menu
Great location
Okay atmosphere
Nice burgers

Cons
Burnt coffee
Lack of stock (ran out of chicken)
Over 30 minute wait time for order of 3
Did not specify the 3 flapjack meal was changed to 2 flapjacks (although it still said 3 on the menu)
No offering of water
The Burgers are better at Miss Kay's, Poutine! need i say more. Really great place for a few Beers, great vibes and super friendly staff, would recommend for afternoon sessions.

The newest edition to Blackwood Street, and we're so happy about it! Ridiculously awesome burgers, great music, and very welcoming family vibes! Definitely recommend hitting this place up with your family and friends! (: ps. the wings are pretty much heaven on earth.

Super friendly staff and delicious burgers!! Always full of energy and has such a fun atmosphere- would highly recommend to go on a night off with friends :)

Live music was playing and it was soulful and upbeat. It was loud for such a small inside area but plenty of room outside where it wasn't so intense. It was quite busy and there wasn't a table free so we elected to get takeaway. We sat on the park bench on the footpath to wait and I thought the staff would miss us, but they we're lovely, and spotted us to deliver our milkshake. The food was another 10 or 15 minute wait but it was a cool night, the atmosphere was chilled, and we were sippin our shake and having a good time so time flew. We saw a few tables free up so I am sure if we wanted to stay then finding a space wouldn't have been difficult. Yeah look the food is alright. A nice find not far from home. I wouldn't cross town for it, but as a local it stacks up.
Claire
Went here for lunch and it was very busy. The bar staff gave my boyfriend a lemonade rather than a pepsi but we shrugged it off. Our meals came out in 15 minutes and I was impressed! Both burgers were delicious. We ordered the original fried chicken wings and found them a bit bland - needed more seasoning. We will be back for the burgers!
Luisa Emilii
Food was very tasty. I know there's a lot of burger places around but this is probably one of the better ones. The milkshakes need a bit more flavor but overall a great venue.
TC
Just opened so if you're going at lunch or dinner there will definitely be a 20-30minute wait. Good burgers, not a fan of the chips but the drink options are fantastic. I've had 2 coffees from here when it hasn't been busy and they have been surprisingly great! And consistent!
