Nothing else to say but...... Y U M. This is officially my favourite classic fish and chips joint, and I am very happy about it! The fish is perfectly battered and instantly melts in your mouth. Also love how you can opt for sweet potato fries! Can’t get enough 😍 will be back again and again and again
So, the menu in the photos on this website are old, fish prices have gone up by $3-5 depending on what you get, Barra was $12 which was a suuuuuper nice surprise to find when I picked up my order, would highly recommend picking up a menu flyer or taking your own photos, I may do so later on.
If I paid the price that was listed? Absolute banger of a fish and chips place, no doubt. At $18 for a Barra and Chips? Eh. It isn’t your deeply flowered, almost pancake batter fish batter so you don’t feel like a piece of trash after half of the piece, but the chip serving, although good, was definitely too light for its price, I know we’re somewhat far away from the seaside here, but fish isn’t that expensive when you account for all the business expenses, and if you’re gonna charge that much, throw another handful of chips in there, ever if it’s just for moral support.
I would visit again, but if I did It would be with a group of people to make it financially viable, and we’d all have to want fish and chips specifically, not just cheap food.
I love coming here for the fried fish and chips! The batter is always crisp, the meet is never greasy, and the chips are battered making them the best in Brisbane. Everything is made fresh and food comes out of the kitchen pretty quickly.
The tartare sauce isn’t the greatest, but that’s a small knock as everything else is spot on.
I have been to A Salt and Battery a few times, the atmosphere's relaxed, the service is good and always friendly and the food delicious. Just one tip I would give to future diners: ask to see the piece of fish that you are buying. Sometimes the portion sizes are tiny (especially if you order snapper apparently). I suspect they cut a good sized fillet into small, thin bits to make more money. They shouldn't have to at $23 for fish chips and salad.
Had Sunday lunch bere after seeing the high rating and tried the calamari + chips + salad meal for $16. Opted for the Greek salad which was super fresh and the calamari was great too, perfect sized meal at a good price.
Really good quality fish and chips here! It's byo too if you're that way inclined. Go the snapper or barramundi if you want fish- it's delicious.
Not the same as it used to be but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Staff were friendly, the food arrived quickly and was hot. I had the battered cod meal with Greek salad. The batter was crispy and light, not drowned in oil. The fish was well cooked and tasty, chips were golden and crunchy, and the salad was simple and fresh. The tartare sauce was also delicious. The only thing stopping me from giving a full 5 stars was the relatively small portion size (I wasn't left hungry but the portion was a little small for the price), and the small amount of tartare sauce. I was otherwise satisfied, looking forward to coming back!
Good for sit-down meals with a bottle of wine and some friends but food is consistently cold when I order takeaway. They also serve takeaway in containers instead of wrapping chips which I think contributes to this problem. Food is good, but a little overpriced. I usually go down the road to Tippler's for a better takeaway experience.
A Salt & Battery (AS&B) welcomes you with a display of its fresh produce and a clear view of its uncomplicated looking kitchen. As you check out the large display menu & decide what to order, you can see the orders being prepared & leaving the kitchen. All of this creates quite the authentic seafood market vibe. AS&B serve a wide variety of seafood with different meal options. I generally order the Seafood Cooked for 1 Platter, since it's good value. For $19.90, you get a wonderful Greek Salad with a nice light dressing, Calamari (4 pieces - 2 lightly crumbed and 2 in a light pepper batter), prawns (2 pieces), Scallops (2 pieces), Fish, Beer Battered Chips and side of dipping sauce & a wedge of lemon. The batter really works well as it is light and simple, which retains that really fresh seafood taste but adds a nice crunch to the bite. The prawns were the clear standout; sweet and juicy, but still firm to the bite and with that delightful crunch from the crumbed batter. The other items were really nice as well but the scallops could do with some tweaking in the batter, probably a slightly lighter coating. The beer battered chips served as the bed for the seafood and were nice and crisp. The chips could have done with a little more seasoning but they were fried well. Also, I would recommend serving a little more chips as the meal doesn't always fill me up. The accompanying house sauce did not work for me, as it was extremely light and I had to use a lot of it to really bring out the best in the seafood. I would have liked a more stronger sauce.
The service was prompt and friendly and the seafood served was very fresh. The takeaway container was nice and sturdy, and looked like care was taken in packing the meal. It can get quite crowded over the weekends and with BYO & Liquorland right beside the restaurant, it's really convenient if you want to get a quick bottle of wine to complement your meal.
Ah my local burger joint, where to start! Great steak burger and chip meal, although the chips aren't as good as they used to be. Someone who does deserve a mention is Nick on till. This guy is always friendly and professional every time we dine here and on his service alone i would return. Keep up the great work buddy.
I really like this place and have been twice since we have been on holidays. Food has been fresh and tasty. Service prompt and efficient. Not cheap but I do think its worth it.
Average fish and chips are everywhere. I had a seafood platter for one and it was delicious.
Much improved since re-opening!. The hamburger is totally back on track now. Way to go!
Best chips in St Lucia.
Decent meal size and yummy chips. Been here twice since it re-opened. Chips and grilled fish are lovely, nice herbs on both. Hamburgers are about average. Staff are always helpful and willing to accommodate my order.
Great place! Cheap food! A nice place to grab a feed and have some drinks.with friends after a hard day at work or study! Highly recommended! The food is.excellent!
Closed. Went there tonight to get my fish and chippie fix. It is closed and it looks recent. There was a note to contact an accounting firm if information was needed. :( A shame.

Great chips and salt and pepper calamari. A salt and battery is home to some of the best chips and calamari. Although the fish and salad can be a bit hit and miss.
Really good fish n chips n super generous , had fish chips salad n calamarie all yummo! N the guy that served me was very catering and helpful.. And a cutie ;p will defiantly be back
The Greatest. The Zorba burger is amazing !!!! The chips are renowned as the best around town. Friendly atmosphere and staff, always a winner with visitors and locals alike.
Despite the awful name. The food is delicious. Some of the best fish and chips places around, nice and crisp without being too greasy.
Best fish and chips in Brisbane. The fish and chips are amazing - the best I have found in Brisbane. Food is reasonably priced and served promptly. The new management has made a significant difference to the attitude of staff - staff are very friendly and efficient.
Don't bother going to other places - A Salt & Battery is the only fish and chips place you need.
Love it!. Their fish and chip is the best one I've ever had. They are perfectly cooked, not greasy at all, and salad is very fresh. Owner and staffs are very friendly. Will be back for more amazing food :)
Simply the Best. The food is delicious, the owner is delightful and kids eat free on Tuesdays! A Salt and Battery is the best fish and chip shop in Brisbane!
Battered is Best. Went here for lunch today with a mate, grabbed barramundi with chips and a few bits and pieces on the side. Fantastic food which took no time at all to come out to our table, big thanks to the awesome waiters too!
Ordered take-away, then got stuck in traffic for an hour and a half. When we finally arrived, they were happy for us to eat in instead and the chef happily recooked our order. Great food, and we appreciated the effort!! Great waitstaff as well!
Excellent fish and chips and fresh salad. The place is a little dirty though. A lot dirty actually. The tables and chairs, S+P shakers, the floor all filthy which makes me wonder how the back of the house is.
The chip/salad ordeal. So i ordered a reef burger right and im a shredder (kill it in the gym) and it comes with chips which i don't eat cause i havent had a carb since 2004. So i asked the chick for a salad instead and she was like nah man cant do it, and i was like what do you mean you cant do it? Just put the salad on the plate instead of the chips OH DERRRR. So then i had to pay extra for there little salad thing, like comeon guys pretty sure salad would be cheaper than chips anyway ya dumb dogs.
T-dog out
Great fish and chips, and a decent size too. The staff are always welcoming too. Great little eatery :)
I agree one of the best fish and chippers north of the river. Been around for years this place is consistent.
This place was great! You had an option to choose from your cod being crumbed or battered and chips were delicious!! VERY good fish and chip place!! Specially in a city area not near a beach!
Yummy Little Eatery, Great Value for Money. Great place with even better prices. This fish and chip shop is no frills but what it does have is awesome fresh calamai and the best prawn skewers I've ever tried. Love the crispy, salty chips and the value for money was excellent. My friend doesnt really eat fish so she was over the moon to discover that they make awesome burgers, buffalo wings and salads too! The Staff were friendly, especially the managers of this family run business and very helpful.
Not only can you buy fish and chips to eat in or take away but you can order fresh fish from them for cooking at home. The choice is great. You must try it!
Great calamari and fish. I really enjoyed the salt & pepper coating on my calamari, and my friends said their cod & chips was awesome. Our meals were prepared quickly despite it being a busy night.
Hot because it is an open air eating area but the ceiling fan helped alot. The meals came out in okay time. Calamari was perfect, with a nice fresh salad and crispy chips.
I do wish they had cold water available, drinking warm water on a hot day is not overly pleasant.
Best fish and chips in town. Seriously... best fish and chips in town. Been here so many times , not as often since finishing off UQ. The Salt and pepper calamari is pretty amazing. Chips are to die for. The staffs are nice and polite too.
Good stuff. Excellent chips, good fish, good salads, nice crab claws (real crab meat?), good service, lots of tables, right next to bottle shop. Fish burger is good too, nice bun used.
Price: A little bit too high.
Quality Fresh Fish, Great Service. Fresh Fish. Great tasting chips. Appealing fresh salads. Quick friendly service. Nice atmoshphere if you want to dine in, BYO. Everything you could want in a local fish and chip shop.
All in all a great place for fish and chips. Been here a few times and it has delivered each time. Price is quite reasonable too. Only downside is that I no longer attend UQ, meaning it's no longer easily accessible for me!
Good, but.... ...the lack of EFTPOS when I've visited on a number of occasions has been a bit odd. That being said, good portions, reasonable quality fish and chips, and friendly staff. Good takeout food.
Great Fish and Chips. It is rare that one finds a decent place to get fish and chips. My only hangup would be that the qaulity slips when you are busy.
Love it!. A Salt and Battery has long been my favorite place to get fish and chips, I'll travel across the city to eat here. Best chips ever, friendly service and great food and presentation.
Best fish n chips on the westside. service is fast and the seafood is to die for!
You can't go wrong. This place is a staple for Fish & Chips in the western suburbs. As a former UQ student I could always count on it for quick & tasty seafood and a great place to catch up with friends. There's usually parking outside or underneath and the street is buzzing with other little restaurants. It's casual but it's cheap, and it's always been reliable!
Great. Superb salt and pepper calamari, salmon, chips, and coffee. good service. definitely will go back
Chips are amazing and.fish is nice. Service is lazy and unfriendly. And salad wasn't in good condition stick with the fish and chips..
Best chips in BNE!!!. I'm not interested with fish / calamari /prawn, but their chips are really the best in BNE. My housemate and I alway go there just for chips. Having tried their grill salmon and feel it is nice too.
Very fresh and yum. Great fish and chips, always very fresh. Thoroughly recommend the calimari. There just may be a bit of a wait depending on when you go - Friday nights in particular are hectic. That's not a complaint though, it just shows how popular this place is - and rightly so.
Yum Yum. You have to try some grilled fish from this restaurant. Always busy and popular with uni students. This could be Brisbane's best fish and chips!
The chips and service were great, but the burger I had was quite disappointing. Have had fish at this restaurant before and can definitely recommend it.
Seafood is fresh. Service was quick and efficient. Wonderful light tasty batter used on the fish. Also great outdoor atmosphere and a great selection of imported sugar cane soft drinks. Will definitely be going back.
But it got even better when I saw our lunch; battered snapper with beer battered chips and grilled atlantic salmon caesar salad. Both dishes were amazingly good.
There is something seriously frustrating about wanting to eat out on a Monday. Why is it that so many restaurants choose the start of the week to stay shut? No DON'T ANSWER. That was a rhetorical question. I'm sure there are plenty of logical/sound busine
Still one of the best seafood platters in Brisbane. So satisfying and not greasy at all.
It's been years since I have been and the quality hasn't changed.
It was really delicious Fish and chips. We were a party of 8 and everyone loved their meal. The service was prompt and pleasant.
The shop is is a daggy strip mall aimed at uni students. The shop is bright and clean but the surrounds are dull at best.
Best salt and pepper calamari we have had in Brisbane. Fish Tacos amazing. Surprisingly Uber eats got it here fast and food was still hot. Gorgeous pumpkin salad. Definitely will reorder soon.
They have managed to raise the level of simple fish and chips to something delicious. The beer battered fish wasn't greasy at all. The fish tacos was tasty especially once the lemon is squeezed. The prices are reasonable. Here are some photos.
Wow! Probably the best seafood I've had in Qld. Ordered the seafood basket for 1. Was a perfect portion and I ate everything (despite not liking scallops). Worth every cent. I'll be back all the time. Thank you
