Nothing else to say but...... Y U M. This is officially my favourite classic fish and chips joint, and I am very happy about it! The fish is perfectly battered and instantly melts in your mouth. Also love how you can opt for sweet potato fries! Can’t get enough 😍 will be back again and again and again
So, the menu in the photos on this website are old, fish prices have gone up by $3-5 depending on what you get, Barra was $12 which was a suuuuuper nice surprise to find when I picked up my order, would highly recommend picking up a menu flyer or taking your own photos, I may do so later on.
If I paid the price that was listed? Absolute banger of a fish and chips place, no doubt. At $18 for a Barra and Chips? Eh. It isn’t your deeply flowered, almost pancake batter fish batter so you don’t feel like a piece of trash after half of the piece, but the chip serving, although good, was definitely too light for its price, I know we’re somewhat far away from the seaside here, but fish isn’t that expensive when you account for all the business expenses, and if you’re gonna charge that much, throw another handful of chips in there, ever if it’s just for moral support.
I would visit again, but if I did It would be with a group of people to make it financially viable, and we’d all have to want fish and chips specifically, not just cheap food.
I love coming here for the fried fish and chips! The batter is always crisp, the meet is never greasy, and the chips are battered making them the best in Brisbane. Everything is made fresh and food comes out of the kitchen pretty quickly.
The tartare sauce isn’t the greatest, but that’s a small knock as everything else is spot on.
I have been to A Salt and Battery a few times, the atmosphere's relaxed, the service is good and always friendly and the food delicious. Just one tip I would give to future diners: ask to see the piece of fish that you are buying. Sometimes the portion sizes are tiny (especially if you order snapper apparently). I suspect they cut a good sized fillet into small, thin bits to make more money. They shouldn't have to at $23 for fish chips and salad.
Had Sunday lunch bere after seeing the high rating and tried the calamari + chips + salad meal for $16. Opted for the Greek salad which was super fresh and the calamari was great too, perfect sized meal at a good price.
Really good quality fish and chips here! It's byo too if you're that way inclined. Go the snapper or barramundi if you want fish- it's delicious.
Not the same as it used to be but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Staff were friendly, the food arrived quickly and was hot. I had the battered cod meal with Greek salad. The batter was crispy and light, not drowned in oil. The fish was well cooked and tasty, chips were golden and crunchy, and the salad was simple and fresh. The tartare sauce was also delicious. The only thing stopping me from giving a full 5 stars was the relatively small portion size (I wasn't left hungry but the portion was a little small for the price), and the small amount of tartare sauce. I was otherwise satisfied, looking forward to coming back!
Good for sit-down meals with a bottle of wine and some friends but food is consistently cold when I order takeaway. They also serve takeaway in containers instead of wrapping chips which I think contributes to this problem. Food is good, but a little overpriced. I usually go down the road to Tippler's for a better takeaway experience.
A Salt & Battery (AS&B) welcomes you with a display of its fresh produce and a clear view of its uncomplicated looking kitchen. As you check out the large display menu & decide what to order, you can see the orders being prepared & leaving the kitchen. All of this creates quite the authentic seafood market vibe. AS&B serve a wide variety of seafood with different meal options. I generally order the Seafood Cooked for 1 Platter, since it's good value. For $19.90, you get a wonderful Greek Salad with a nice light dressing, Calamari (4 pieces - 2 lightly crumbed and 2 in a light pepper batter), prawns (2 pieces), Scallops (2 pieces), Fish, Beer Battered Chips and side of dipping sauce & a wedge of lemon. The batter really works well as it is light and simple, which retains that really fresh seafood taste but adds a nice crunch to the bite. The prawns were the clear standout; sweet and juicy, but still firm to the bite and with that delightful crunch from the crumbed batter. The other items were really nice as well but the scallops could do with some tweaking in the batter, probably a slightly lighter coating. The beer battered chips served as the bed for the seafood and were nice and crisp. The chips could have done with a little more seasoning but they were fried well. Also, I would recommend serving a little more chips as the meal doesn't always fill me up. The accompanying house sauce did not work for me, as it was extremely light and I had to use a lot of it to really bring out the best in the seafood. I would have liked a more stronger sauce.
The service was prompt and friendly and the seafood served was very fresh. The takeaway container was nice and sturdy, and looked like care was taken in packing the meal. It can get quite crowded over the weekends and with BYO & Liquorland right beside the restaurant, it's really convenient if you want to get a quick bottle of wine to complement your meal.
Ah my local burger joint, where to start! Great steak burger and chip meal, although the chips aren't as good as they used to be. Someone who does deserve a mention is Nick on till. This guy is always friendly and professional every time we dine here and on his service alone i would return. Keep up the great work buddy.
Still one of the best seafood platters in Brisbane. So satisfying and not greasy at all.
It's been years since I have been and the quality hasn't changed.
It was really delicious Fish and chips. We were a party of 8 and everyone loved their meal. The service was prompt and pleasant.
The shop is is a daggy strip mall aimed at uni students. The shop is bright and clean but the surrounds are dull at best.
Best salt and pepper calamari we have had in Brisbane. Fish Tacos amazing. Surprisingly Uber eats got it here fast and food was still hot. Gorgeous pumpkin salad. Definitely will reorder soon.
They have managed to raise the level of simple fish and chips to something delicious. The beer battered fish wasn't greasy at all. The fish tacos was tasty especially once the lemon is squeezed. The prices are reasonable. Here are some photos.
Wow! Probably the best seafood I've had in Qld. Ordered the seafood basket for 1. Was a perfect portion and I ate everything (despite not liking scallops). Worth every cent. I'll be back all the time. Thank you
