Review It's Mirchi Healthy Indian - Brisbane

Natasha Marker
My partner and I have been on the hunt for good Indian in Brisbane for such a long time and last night we were not disappointed!! It’s Mirchi gave us such a wonderful dining experience from the beautiful service to complimentary rice to the delicious, authentic Indian flavours… we were amazed! It’s so hard to find healthy but delicious Indian cuisine but wow, what a fantastic job! We will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family and will be making It’s Mirchi our regular Indian date night spot!! Can’t wait to come back.

This place is AMAZING. After trying many Indian restaurants around Brisbane (and being a vegetarian) I’ve had many average and even some terrible experiences. Reviews looked great so we thought we’d give it a try. My girlfriend & I were blown away by the food quality, the flavour and how reasonable the price was at It’s Mirchi Healthy Indian. Definitely one of the best experiences we’ve had! Customer service was 10/10 and they even gave us complimentary rice for free even though we didn’t order it. The staff were so polite & friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. I think we’ve found our new favourite place to eat!

This is by far the Best Indian I have tasted in Brisbane! (This is coming from someone who has owned Indian restaurant myself). The flavours are so authentic and healthy. Great service too. I won't even mind to pay a little extra given the amazing quality of the food, great service, cozy ambience and the location. My only suggestion to the team would be cook the rice a bit more- steamed rice was a tad bit uncooked. Otherwise all Soo great!!!

Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend a visit. Good portion sizes for 2 people and an extensive range of dishes. We enjoyed the plant based options and were definitely not left hungry for choice.

I came just by my self and realy enjoed my time there. Realy good food, the waitress are really kind and will always check if every thing is good. The place is also really nice and cosy. Defenetly a good place to go.

The food was really good, especially the vegan options. Just plain good-quality Indian food. Food was a fairly expensive though, you're looking at about $35 per person without drinks. Also, as someone who used to work in hospitality, I'm very disappointed with how MASSIVELY understaffed this restaurant was. They had 6 eat in tables, as well as many take out and delivery orders coming in, but only 2 staff. The staff were absolutely lovely and obviously working really hard, but it's just disappointing to see how little the manager/owner values their workers.

Food was absolutely delicious, one of the best Indian restaurants in Brisbane. I will be definitely coming back. Thank you for your warm and friendly service too!

Staff and food here were great, our waitress was always more than helpful and very friendly. Lots of options and doesn't have that oiliness to it that is common with fast food indian places. The inside was really nice too, I had been meaning to come here for awhile due to the good selection of vegan options, will definitely be coming back.

Very nice experience and Really taste in Indian food

Honestly, I've never thought about Indian cuisine before and why I have to say 'No' when I was invited to try new things 😊 what I feel is it's more interesting than I thought. Also, If you guys are healthy people, such a good place to check it out!

A curry and a beer is synonymous with a good night, but not so much with squeezing into a pair of skinny jeans the next day. . Enter It's Mirchi Healthy Indian in the heartland of Brisbane's funky Paddington scene. This restaurant caters to the health conscious, whatever than means for you. Low-carb, low-sugar, vegan, dairy-free, vegetarian, nut-free and organic options are all available. These guys can omit anything.

Had heard so many good things about this restaurant, it even got a mention in the Brisbane top10 Indian so with family up from interstate we decided to give it a try. We booked a table even though it was a Tuesday night, we didn’t want to be disappointed, but unfortunately it disappointment from here on in. We arrived on time to find only a table of 4 had been reserved (we were a group of 5) so they just stuck the extra person on the end of a relatively small table only suited for 4 considering with Indian you have a lot of shared dishes on the table. We were then given some water and menus and that’s where the service stopped. No follow up contact for 20mins, one single waitress serving all tables in the restaurant which was pretty much full, even having made eye contact and a gesture to order no one came.....so we got up and left after 20mins. Very disappointed with the extremely poor customer service. Sorry won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend.

Went for dinner Friday night with a friend and ordered a beef korma medium. Was not even close to medium - not sure if any chilli was in it at all. The meat was dry and there was some burnt bits in the dish like they had scraped the bottom of the pot. I also ordered a naan with the meal but from my experience in other Indian restaurants this was more like a pita pocket that has been toasted not the lovely fluffy bread I have has elsewhere. A fairly disappointing meal all up. On a positive note the wait staff were lovely and the food came quickly. Wouldn’t recommend it though as there are better places in Brisbane.

We dined here on Saturday night, being a party of 5 with two meat-eaters, two vegans and a vegetarian. We all loved our meals. The flavours were delicious and robust, the rice portions were generous and the breads were also excellent. The waitress was attentive and helpful, including making sure that the vegans were well catered for with accompaniments. The restaurant also had a lovely atmosphere with furnishings and lighting. We will be back for sure.

My partner and I really wanted to like this place, it’s close to home and has so many gluten free options! Unfortunately, we really didn’t. We found the food to really lack any taste at all and we had a fair few dishes. I would rather drive further and get better food.We won’t be returning.

I was a bit sceptical of what healthy Indian would be like, but this place is delicious and highly recommend! We had a variety of dishes and all delivered. Chicken tikka masala was my favourite and the garlic naan a must too.

Rating: 2.5
Dinner for five on a quiet Saturday night was good with a litany of provisos & ‘buts’.

Four curries had good flavours, consistency & tenderness but no heat despite a detailed convo when ordering about whether we wanted ‘Aussie’ heat or ‘real’ heat (real please!) so we were bummed out to receive Aussie mild all round. Additional chillies were kindly offered later when the server checked in with us but we were almost finished & unincorporated chillies weren’t the flavour profile we were after. Meanwhile chicken tikka was rescued off the sizzle plate soon as it arrived but was still dry. Garlic naan was very good but the stuffed GF naan was reportedly not so great.

We also paid an additional $5 for free range chicken in the tikka masala while other dishes had it included in the price...but why not 100% ethical free range across the board in this day & age? Guessing kitchen logistics must be complicated & staff very conscientious to ensure free range is always received upon request.

And a final butt: the ladies facilities didn’t work.

Had a lovely dinner here. We ordered the butter chicken, masala eggplant, gluten free garlic naan, garlic naan, cumin rice and tandoori chicken.
The tandoori chicken was too dry for my liking, but the other dishes were really delicious. While its a tad on the pricier side, it's still reasonable for the quality of the food served. The staff were really nice too and came to our table frequently to check on us.

Absolutely delicious gluten, dairy and sugar free butter chicken. You honestly cannot tell. Guilt free and the servings they give you is very generous! I will definitely be back. :)
Ilovefood
This place is fantastic! Caters to all dietary requirements offering multiple vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options and the food was absolutely delicious. Great service and ambience. Will definitely revisit!

What a lovely find. A short walk from where we are staying while visiting Brisbane. My GF daughter was in raptures when I told her that ALL their curries and mains are gluten free. Then, when she saw that they had GF nan bread, she thought that she'd died and gone to heaven.

Healthy options are part of the image and are thus lived up to. Other indicators being roasted instead of fried popadums and being given a choice of regular, free range or organic chicken.

The entrees onion bahjis and chicken tikka were both good. Home made lime pickle was great but could have been spicier for my taste. 3 of our 4 mains were delicious. The mango chicken, korma, and masala. My Goan fish curry didn't quite sit right with my palate. But to be honest that probably says more about my taste than their food. To the great credit of the waiting staff and kitchen, when I asked for some cut chilli to spice up my dish - I'd ordered medium but definitely got mild - the waitress immediately offered to replace it. Well done. Who knows if it was the same but with added chilli - but to be honest who cares!! Tasted fine and problem solved.

Thanks for a pleasant evening. Heartily recommended for anyone who fancies a tasty and healthy Indian meal, especially if you need gluten free options.

Oh and it's also very reasonably priced.

Great indian. Went with a large group and the service was great and friendly and very accommodating for us. Had the panneer butter masala and some naan. The naan was honestly the best I've had in Brisbane.
BrisDiner
Really enjoy the curries from here. Ability to order online makes life easy. Fairly standard Indian fare however notice the curries are slightly less oily and thicker than elsewhere.

It was fast service and nice delivery staff. Food wise, i have had better, wasn't 100% happy with the quality or taste. Nothing to WOW me. .................................................
Foodie McFoodface
Amazingly flavoursome food. I usually run with the butter chicken, which is deliciously tender and always hits the right spice point. There is a super range of curries though, which keeps me going back.
The garlic naan and samosas are well worth a run if you are feeling hungry too.
Friendly service rounds out what is a tremendous Indian dining experience .

We walked in to be greeted by lovely staff. We opted for a floor table for something different. The restaurant is dark and has a very warming and relaxed feel. Service was quick and efficient and the staff were really helpful when it came to explaining the menu and asking if we had any dietary needs. I got the onion bhaji to start with which was tasty but fairly basic, and for my main I opted for something a little healthier and ordered the tadka daal and the vegetable rice. I thought my main was really quite bland, but my friend said she enjoyed her curry. The vegetable rice wasn't tasty and the vegetables did not taste fresh. I'm not in any rush to come back here but I would consider going back to try something different, perhaps one of the meat curries.

We have been getting takeaway from here for months now. There staff are always polite and helpful. The food has always been of a high standard.
Today there eftpos was down. They apologised and when I said we did not have cash they said take your meal and we will call you later for payment.
When they call they apologised for disturbing us during our meal, there was no demand for payment they just ask if we can come back and pay some time. Of course we did and when paying again was followed up by an apology for the inconvenience.
Thank you for your service and your hospitality.

AMAZING. It was HEAVENLY. Best curry meal I've had in a while and we eat a lot of curry. BIG FANS. I will come here again and again and again and again.
I Make Food Into Nards
So I was informed that this place was healthy and vegan, but I got there and ate like 10 meat curries.
So life is what you make it, I just like mine made of meat.

I shall return, but seriously the restaurant layout is so bad it must of been done by a vegan.
Richard Hardener
The menu looked so promising and really did deliver. Great flavours and healthy food. So many vege, gluten free, lactose free options. BUT the service was CRAP!! They gave us a jug of water but only one glass (for a table of 3). We ordered other drinks that never showed and eventually had to remind them...twice. Our waitress seemed to go to an extra effort to ignore us while we were waiting for our food. I'd hate to see how bad the service is when they are busy...we were there on a Wednesday night with only 3 or 4 other tables. The food was great but I'm not sure if I can justify going back.
Glutenfree.Brisbane
I love the idea of this place and I was really excited about Gluten Free Naan bread as I haven't eaten naan for years. But I was a little underwhelmed. I ordered the butter chicken (medium), gluten free naan and the cauliflower pakoda. The curry was nice, but very mild for a medium, not sure if I was given a mild instead but it seemed like it lacked seasoning and was a little bland. The Naan was nothing special, I ordered the cheese and spinach option and couldn't locate any cheese or spinach in it, so not sure if that was how it was supposed to be. The cauliflower pakoda were ok, again pretty bland. The ingredients seemed high quality, the service was friendly and the prices were on par with most Indian restaurants in the area, but the flavours didn't blow me away. I might give it another go, but I didn't love it the way I wanted to.

Mirchi, what has happened. You were the best Indian in the area. Two visits ago we gave you the benefit of the doubt when your food was sub-standard, and tonight you hit a new low.

The food, to be honest, was rubbish. The normally to die for naan tasted like something out of the supermarket. No char marks or bubbling, just microwave cardboard.

Chicken Marsala was capsicum and onion with a few bits of dried chicken thrown in. Medium (normally your mild is hot) could be fed to a baby. Bland and tasteless.

Lamb saag ...... isn't it supposed to be thick spinach based? Nope, something resembling Tom Piper 'beef n' gravy' only not as good.

Last time, never again, no more excuses!

-------------------------------------------

It's taken quite a long time to walk through the door, so now after five visits it's definitely at the top of my Indian favourites. It's Mirchi go out of their way, almost annoyingly, to display cartoon bubbles with 'sugar free', 'healthy indian', 'gluten free' etc. I don't go to Indian restaurants for health benefits ......

The sign they forgot is 'we make damn good Indian food'. And this sums it up, the food is great. My go-to dish is any vindaloo. Eat in or take away, I highly recommend.

Food was lovely - owner just has lovely, lots to choose from all very healthy and fresh! well done, see you soon! The Chai (Indian made the way it should be) was great!
Eurofighter
had takeaway from here. We had several mains and all were great. The food tasted almost like authentic in-India food. Thats pretty different from the usual thick generic gravy/find the meat stuff most Indian restaurants do. We loved it, we'll go back for sure.
Coffee Jo
have only ever ordered delivery from here, but have never been disappointed. it does taste healthy and fresh. you don't feel super full and bloated after, which is rare for Indian food.
Aqua Marine
Its a bad place with haphazard health conditions. There were cockroaches all over the dining room! The food was average and took a long time to come. The staff was rude and not co-operative. Considering the bad health conditions itself , this place should be avoided.

There are better places for Indian food in the nearby area.
The 1 star is for pity's sake. AVOID!
Chardonnaygirl
Been there a couple of times. Really tasty food at reasonable prices and friendly service. It's BYO too which adds to the appeal because hate paying a huge premium for a drink.

Great high quality food, probably the best Indian in Brisbane

Delicious food and excellent service.... . Great service and great cuisine. That was my third visit to this indian restaurant and I have been served excellently although the restaurant was so much busy on last Friday. The staff are very friendly and Recommend the tandoori platter but to be honest, whatever you order, you won't be disappointed. Great value for money too! The healthy indian has consistantly exceeded our expectations. The food is by far the best indian in the area and the family atmosphere and pride in their restaurant makes it an easy choice time after time for delivery or dine in.

It took 3 hours + to get our food. We placed a takeaway order for 2 curries, a rice and a naan bread but it took more than 3 hours to get our food (and we only live 2 minutes drive from the place).... the food was ok. not worth the 3 hour wait....

Excellent food and superb service. I grew up eating Indian food in UK and travelled extensively in India so I'm usually disappointed by Indian food in Australia. This restaurant is the exception!! The dhansak was exceptional, the tikka masala (for nostalgic reasons) was a little tomato heavy but still delicious. Naan was authentic, the paneer fresh and the spices well balanced.
The chef/owner is a delight to deal with, as are all the staff. Very knowledgeable and genuine.
Go here, support a restaurant that deserves your custom!

Great food, good service. Love this place. Been there few times. Their coconut beef is mouth-watering. Good service. Highly recommended and I'm an Indian.

A must!. It's Mirchi it not only delicious and beautiful but they have such a nice environment too!
I love the onion bhaji and chilli pakoras, and highly recommend the fish/prawn curries! Yum yum.
My partner and I love going here, they are really personable and lovely and want you to enjoy yourself to the fullest!

Awesome curry and naan. Trying out all the old wives tales for inducing labour, and was looking for a very hot indian curry. Hadn't been here before, but based on the good reviews trekked over to Paddington for an 'authentic' very hot curry. Was so happy we chose this restaurant, all the food was cooked to order, onion bahji were crisp and fresh, naan was the perfect thickness and texture. The main event was a very hot rogan josh and a medium palak paneer. Both were amazing, loved that both were very flavourful with the heat coming afterwards. Even if the baby continues to procrastinate over its debut, it was well worth the 25min drive for a fantastic curry. Almost neglected to mention that the lady who runs the place is very attentive and friendly.

Delicious. I've been to It's Mirchi multiple times recently - both dining in and takeaway (once getting delivery). The delivery was quick and easy, the restaurant itself is lovely, and the food is wonderful.

The first time I visited I had mixed feelings - the malai kofta was very average but the other dish - bombay aloo - was amazing. Very spicy (which I love) and authentic, a real treat. It was so good that we tried it again, and again, and everything since has been excellent. My brother raves about the Chicken 65 and the butter chicken, the naan is delicious, the daal sagwaala is wonderful, the Madras is great, the aloo mutter is amazing. Beautiful flavours and a good kick of chili - something that pleases us greatly but for those who do not appreciate spice, make sure you tell them.

The staff are also very friendly and helpful, making It's Mirchi one of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane.

Nobody can cook seafood like they can. Mirchi, is a very clever take on Indian food. The recipes are very traditional in one respect but light and refreshing in another. Doesn't leave you feeling heavy afterward like rich Indian food does. I love all the seafood dishes because I don't get seafood that beautifully cooked even in seafood restaurants. They have an extraordinary vegetarian and gluten free menu, pages of them in fact. Yes I am a big fan my family and I now eat there often

I love It's Mirchi. Fresh food, friendly staff, lovely decor and most importantly the fish curry was amazing!

Amazing food with personal & friendly service. Perfect for vegetarians and anyone following an ayurvedic diet. We're regulars now!

It's Mirchi & it's Brilliant.... Their curries are by far the best I have tasted in Brisbane along with their hospitality!!! Go there for a great feed

Diverdean. Discovered this little gem after looking on line. Great ambiance, impeccable service and the best curries I have ever tasted, My dinner companion and I shared a goat madras and a chicken vindaloo which were accompanied with coconut rice, peshawri naan and a very different and tasty lime pickle. All in all a delightful meal which makes It's Mirchi a fantastic dining experience. I will definitely be returning.

Delicious. Started with the samosas and the onion bhaji (which were a dreamy lightness). Followed with the Goan fish curry, the coconut beef, the dhal and the korma - all absolutely delicious. As were the accompanying naans, garlic naans, lime pickle and the rices. I even managed the fab mango kulfi. The service was very friendly. Easy on the hip pocket. And the six of us came away very satisfied indeed.
K.Ruth
We visited for the first time last night - and we were very impressed. The food was delicious (particularly liked the lamb saag) - the garlic naan was amazing!
The service was great, the ambience was good considering it was a quiet Monday night. Will definitely be back.

Order the fish curry!. The fish curry is absolutely beautiful, the best one I have ever had!
Ambrosia
Ok, but not great. I had some takeaway from here recently and wasn’t overly impressed. I ordered the Cauliflower Pakoda and Onion Bhaji as entrees, the flavours for each were ok but both dishes were tainted with copious amounts of salt and I ended up throwing most of it out. The Prawn Appam with coconut rice was much better; the sauce was really creamy and they were very generous on the prawns, however it could have used a little more spice. I’ve been told some of the other dishes are fantastic so I’m inclined to give the place another go sometime, especially because it was reasonably priced.
Epicurean
A real find!. Dined here Friday night with friends. I have thanked them already for bringing this recently-opened establishment to our attention. While the décor and pretty much open to street design of the shop aren't particularly appealing, we were more than pleased with the service, the food, and the bill. Urvashi and Akshay are into fresh, fragrant Indian cuisine, with no particular regional accent. They seem to have accomplished this extremely well. We have a regular set of dishes which we order, and this time they came with a slight twist which we thoroughly enjoyed. The dahl, in particular, and the entrée onion bhaji and crispy chicken were standouts, while the tandoori chicken was a little bit of a let-down. Really looking forward to goat being added to the menu soon. Considering it's BYO and the bill was around $30 per person, we'll surely be back.

The prawn curry is out of this world! Best Indian curry I've ever had. Friendly and fab service. Loved it

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. I love this Indian restaurant, the food was amazing and the service was very friendly and professional. It is obvious this restaurant values both high customer service and authentic Indian cuisine. The prices were affordable and the atmosphere was great. I will definitely be returning on a regular basis and recommending to all my friends and family.

Best indian cusine. This is the best indian restaurant i have been in Brisbane. there butter chicken is simply awesome . I'm visiting this this restaurant once in week and enjoy there service with the best naan bread in brisbane.i just love it
Johnny2
BAD CHOICE. There are much better Indian restaurants around town. This is one place that I wouldn't recommend so save your time and money. The service was really appalling for an empty restaurant. When the food came out we were equally disappointed with our three course meal. You can make better butter chicken from a can. The naan bread was also undercooked and not your traditional kind of naan bread. It was awful.
Foodielover
Don't come here!!! We should've known it wasn't going to be good based on the fact that there was only 3 other diners in the restaurant. One waitress who couldn't take down the correct orders or knew what she was doing. The owners and kitchen staff were rude. The food was terrible. It was a horrible dining experience for us.

Establishing Residency. Go here!.........Just arrived from Melbourne had found a fantastic Indian place there so was keen to find something comparable. Staff/Chef/Food all fantastic. Nothign better on a Fri night than strolling down street and strolling back home. Support this place, they are making every post a winner!

Great Indian Finally. There are many poor Indian restaurants in Brisbane. This is not one of them. A new restaurant, so has yet to be found by the masses. 3 entrees, 4 mains and all were loved, next time we will try the seafood curries that are house specialities. Expect all the regular Indian curries, done well. Nice restaurant space to with friendly staff and chef.

At Last....a great Indian Restaurant in Paddington. Lovely surroundings, attentive staff and great fresh food with nice menu. Off to a great start for this new Indian restaurant in Paddington. Good value and drinks menu also very reasonable. We will be back and this could become our local!

Brilliant Indian Food. Great addition to the restaurants in Paddington. It's a tough location with many restaurants failing but with food quality like this I believe this one has what it takes to survive. I know I will be a regular.

-----23 Dec, 2013-----

A Very Good Start. This restaurant has only been open for 1 month but showing excellent promise. The service was enthusiastic which will become more professional with time. The table setting was very nice. Decor and ambiance was difficult to judge as the restaurant was not busy (Monday night on the 23rd of Dec) so I will reserve judgement for when it's busy... and I'm sure it will get there. Food was fresh, excellent, and tasted like it was all prepared onsite.

Worthy of the support of Paddington and the surrounding area. We will be back!
Ruth Anderson
We loved this place! Indian cuisine at a very fine level. The restaurant looks good, and the new open plan space comfortable and not noisy.
We really enjoyed our meal from the simple menu, and our compliments to the chefs on the freshness and tastiness of our dinner. We took our own wine, but could easily have found something on the inexpensive wine list. Good luck with your new restaurant, we will bring friends next time!
Tyler Brown
Quite good.. We love our Indian and have eaten at all in the area and will drive / walk anywhere for a good one. Great to see another Indian move in to the area. We went here Saturday night - the service was great, really attentive and friendly. The beef vindaloo and aloo gobi were both delicious (not oily) and the breads (roti and plain naan) were also really good (albeit a little small). A little disappointed they don't do the beautifully flaky parathas, though. The beers were reasonably priced too. A nice touch - it was the owner's wedding anniversary on the day we were there and they gave each diner a complimentary dessert (gulab jamon) which were also delicious.

We will definitely go back - but I agree with the previous comment about the lighting. Most diners prefer dim-ish lighting in restaurants - too much lighting resembles a food hall - especially in a big space such as here. Also, not sure why the TV was on in the background, but no music. I'd probably change that too.
Jm.carroll
Incredible food!. We have been in Brisbane for 20 years and we eat out often, but this is the best food we have had in a long time. Meat is perfectly cooked, and the curry pastes are fully of depth and complexity. Very friendly service and very good atmosphere. Lighting needs too change. Too bright! Once they get the lighting right in here it will be a Brissy fave for years to come.
Glomeshgirl
It's ok better than some other Indian around the place but I found the curries very oily and they had that super shiny slick look to them. Flavours were good and you could taste the spice. I really don't know why another Indian restaurant opened in this area as there must be at least 6 or 7 within in a 2km radius. They will have to really deliver in service and consistency to survive.
Hux
Worth Goan here!. Naan bread was light - the spinach and cheese was especially good. Tried the Goan fish, lamb saagwala and chicken korma - all had great depth of flavour. We had take-away but the restaurant looks well set up.

Best Indian in Brisbane. After trying what felt like hundreds of Indians in Brisbane, I've finally found the best!
We went a few nights ago for a friends birthday and we are going back again tonight it was so good. We were the only people in the restaurant the last time but I'm putting this down to it being a newly opened retaurant, that other people have not yet discovered! This is a must try if you like Indian food!

Great service, great food and the price is great too, what more can you ask for!

It's Mirchi was spectacular, the service, the food and the atmosphere were just devine. I definitely recommend dropping in next time your in paddington.
