Explored Kelvin Grove campus of QUT this morning. When I browsed around the weekend market there, all of the sudden I found this place so gave it a go. While I was walking in to place my order, I saw the waitress writing today’s special. One of the specials today is the Blueberries pancake and they were just sitting at the counter bench. I could not refuse such temptation so ordered the pancakes as the flat white. When the stack of pancakes came to the table, I then discovered that I ordered a sweet dish for my brekkie this morning. Well, I have to pay for my mistake; even though the pancakes were good and came with a nice generous portion, I did not enjoy it too much due to personal choice. Having said that, the coffee was good to compensate my fault.
I'll start by saying this place does great coffee. I came for breakfast mid-week and it was super busy with lots of patrons grabbing their morning coffee. We ordered Turkish toast with avocado and feta and two coffees. The coffee took AGES to arrive. I suppose as it's primarily a takeaway coffee shop the focus is on takeaway coffee customers which I totally understand but I was surprised that it took a good 20mins for our coffees to be made.
Half the staff were lovely, half it wouldn't kill them to crack a smile.
The breakfast menu is surprisingly expensive, especially in a student focused area. It was nice and tasted really fresh but I think I'd only return for coffee.
Dropped in on a half hour break and ordered the avocado and feta smash on sourdough and a flat white, both of which were delicious. Service was fast (we got our food within 10 minutes of ordering). Cute cafe with awesome interiors and food.
Being nice works. It took 45 minutes long to send out my toasted sandwich because all the staff 'forgot' about it. I initially thought they we're having a go at me after reading these reviews. I managed to say it's ok, laugh it off and assure them that I wasn't angry as they were very concerned and apologetic. They came back in 2 minutes with my sandwich and a free cheesecake muffin (which is around $6 I think). I think some customers need to chill out, people make mistakes and all you have to do is remind them in a nice tone and be understanding.

Been coming here sporadically for years, the staff always remember me and are super friendly. The coffee is the best on campus and the eggs on grain bread a great value for money!!!
Good Breaky. I have had breaky here twice and both times were quite yummy. Once was the avo and haloumi the other was the baked beans with cheesy toast. Both lovely breakfasts.
Makes a nice Saturday brunch to wander through the markets and then sit down for a bite while you consider what to buy.
I had the best short macchiato of my visit to Brisbane. And the mushrooms avocado and grilled haloumi was perfect.
Blueberry and banana smoothie is a favourite here. I usually get whatever special they have or pick from the counter window- I've never been disappointed. The staff are all great and the place has a really friendly atmosphere to it.
Great French Toast!. This is a funky and popular spot in the Kelvin Grove Urban Village Precinct, and a great place to grab a quick coffee.
The service has its own style, but the coffee is great and the French Toast with Berries and Mascapone is the best I have ever eaten! It's become a bit of a favourite!
The Boys House of Coffee. I have been trying to find a decent coffee store in Kelvin Grove for a while and have finally found it (among another one or two that aren't too bad). The Boys service is always quick and pretty friendly, nice decor, breakfast to die for when I have time to get it and it helps that most of the staff members are pretty good looking too.
If they don't take your fancy head out for Dil Campo up the hill or Roost down the street. Never, and I repeat, never go to the following: CoCosy or Blue Lotus. Both are messy and never consistent with the blend or staff (who don't seem to know what they are doing with the machine).
The other coffee stores lurking around the urban village are pretty mediocre and you're probably better off not going to them either.
The Boys - 7.5/10
Definitely the best coffee in the area. I've been there twice and already knew my order. There is no doubt I will be frequenting "The Boys" :)
This place has great service, yummy food and coffee. And the lesbian chick who works there is really hot.
Had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, spinach and a side of grilled tomato. This was by far the best eggs Benedict I've ever had - so, thank you :) the mango smoothie was also wonderful.
Great coffee - They really know how to make soy creamy - which is a skill! The breakfast is delicious and homely - the chef is a whiz at scrambled eggs. Service is young and not overly attentive but friendly all the same.
The Boys is a place full of wild entertainment. This is a place you go to for a show. Food is fabulous and sourced from the local Kelvin Grove farmers markets. Everything is homemade by two great female chefs. The barista really knows how to make a good soy coffee unlike many other places. Go here and expect hearts on sleeves and food with heart!
Best!. Best coffee in Brisbane! The food is really good too and reasonably priced. Love The Boys!
Yummy. Awesome coffee and fairly cheap too :)
Nice Coffee. The coffee was really nice and strong with a pretty pattern poured on top. We had some pear bread stuff which was really nice. The staff made me feel a little awkward with their loud gossiping but overall a nice place to get a good cuppa. I'll probably come back due to the convenient location beside QUT.
Left and I'm now coming back. The Boys cafe has DELICOUS coffee and food! However their incessent bitching about customers (and no I don't think anyone is immune) made me stray elsewhere. Chiasso (think i got it right) is awesome for quickness (also has a customer loyalty card) but not great coffee.
New cafe CoCozy cafe TERRIBLE food $15 for a salad with half of the ingredients. Blue lotus is alright the manager is really crankys though.
So to conclude, the Boys is the best!
My fave place for coffee and breakfast in Brisbane... Honey macadamia granola is amazing and constantly awesome coffee. Cool staff.
The only place serving organic fairtrade coffee on campus. Nice little place for lunch. Super friendly service.
Good coffee, good food. Friendly staff! I had the breakfast bagel
Excellent coffee, nice food. However, some of the "breakfast food" items are pricey. That's the case with all "Cafe food", I guess. Their coffees are excellently priced though, and the food is of nice quality. One of the most iconic Kelvin Grove hangouts. God I'm going to miss this place when I graduate.
These guys are my local! I love the staff. The owner, Lawrence, is always up for a chat. It's dog friendly. Breakfast is always nice between a breakfast wrap or thick toast with avocado! Yum. Kyle and Bree behind the til are always a joy to speak with. I am here daily, often multiple times a day!
The go too. Cosy and character. Lovely little corner pocket in the Kelvin grove Urban village. Well priced, got the basics and does them well. Generally also offers an interesting selection of specials. I don’t feel like there’s a risky menu choice, I know I’m not going to walk away disappointed.
Loved finding this place on a Saturday while the markets were on as they had a muso playing while enjoying our brunch. Food is excellent and love the range of choice. Coffee is good too, although it was hot, so i ordered an iced latte, but it was good and strong. My favourite is the falafel salad, which they allowed me to add a poached egg to... the only down side was they forgot about it - so it came halfway through me eating my meal - but no big deal really.
Came in before a big day of study. Lovely coffee, service and the Kale and Halloumi fritter was so yum! Great vibes all around.
Drinks, food and service was awesome! Great price. The staff are really friendly and looks like a great team dynamic.
Big shout out to the staff here. All are super nice and helpful. They helped me store the cake(a surprise to my friend today). Thank you!
