This place is great. I don't know what the people who left negative reviews were on about - if you check their Google reviews you'll see they have 4.8 stars out of more than a hundred reviews, and it's definitely deserved!
Wife was always saying we must go and try this fish and chip place, as they cut their own chips. Shw mentioned it was run by father and son team. For a wednesday night it was busy, it must say somwthing about the food here.
So after work, wife got some fish and chips, and it was good, little calamari, fish bites, prawn cutlets serving of chips. And on the side a piece of cod, the cod was ok, didn't compare to the fish bites. But that didn't stop us from finishing it.
Everything was cooked right and didn't feel guilty afterwards. Definitely Be back, as they are just off the freeway, near shell on the way home.
Fantastic fish and chips. The crumbed cod was delicious, we had seafood sticks, seafood bites and potato scallops as well which were all really yummy. They are closed on Mondays, it doesn't say that on this site.
Hard to tell from external appearance, but this place is the classic hidden gem.
Best fish and chips in the area by a distance. Simple, well priced, no nonsense, brilliant fish and chips.
There are no fish and chip shops like it, by far the best! If I could recommend one thing, it be try nicks, and let the addiction begin.

Nick's Takeaway - Holland Park, Brisbane. Behind a roller door not unlike a garage comes an unlikely find. Dimly lit, it might not look like it but this place does some very good takeaway - particularly the Friday favourite, fish n chips.
The power went out, so it was off to here. They also got the blackout, but the deep fryer was still working. It was obviously a slow day as three of the four owners were sitting around a table with one taking the occasional order. This was a life saver regardless.
The range here is very good, no longer do I have to go to the Gold or Sunshine Coast (or a beach area) for the whole fish n chip/seafood basket (and more) experience. I asked what they recommended and it ended up being their basic fish n chips with an additional potato scallop.
Suffice to say, their servings are incredibly generous; I am still thinking maybe the fish n chips is intended for a group as opposed to an individual. The fish was still firm but could be broken up by hand easily; it also had a mild flavour that indicated it was not overcooked. The batter was amazing.
As for their fires, they were fantastic. Generous amounts of seasoning were used and they were hot and crispy. Their potato scallop was very good, using thinly sliced potato and having a subtle distinct flavour that distinguishes them so well.
A well-rounded takeaway with service akin to knowing the owners well. There are a number of different items here and they alone are enough to bring me back to this place.
This is the best seafood in south Brisbane! We have been going there years and its always good and you always get a good amount! Would go there every day if I could!
Highly recommended the calamari, the texture was tender and not rubbery at all. Overall enjoyed everything, the crumbing and chips were lovely and crisp. The only downside was that found the kabana a little overcooked and dry, so would give it a miss next time. There's only one table to sit at if dining in, so takeaway would be best.
Ordered 3 burgers for lunch for myself and family - and all were DELICIOUS!!!
If I could give this place 10 stars I would.

Best chips in Brisbane - real hand cut chips and the minimum chips easily feeds a family (or 1 hungry teen). Burgers and fish are also pretty good too. Old fashioned style family run business that treats customers really well (more often than not they throw an extra in with your order).
Had some very tasty fish and chips last night. Lovely and fresh and cooked the way I like it. Read a few reviews since change of ownership. Seems like the new owners have taken on suggestions and feedback to bring the quality up to speed from what we all expect of this Tarragindi icon. Thanks guys! Keep up the good work.
