We have not been here nearly one and a half year since my last review so checked it out last night. It was very quiet due to the CV impact. There were totally three tables being occupied and ours was the only one occupied by Chinese.
Ordered the Isakaya Set C with Sashimi, chicken gizzards and Oden hot pot. Besides that we placed an extra dish of Wasabi Mayo Prawn.
Sashimi came first with reasonable varieties but did not look spectacular. Freshness of the seafood was passable. Then the rest came gradually to the table. Gizzards and wasabi mayo prawn were passable (the wasabi prawn @ Kakuson Sushi is better) but the Oden hot pot was good and tasteful. Overall dining experience was average but the friendly and attentive service deserves extra mark on the review.

Good size portions and super kid friendly. My family loves it!
Fantastic service, huge variety, opens till late and food is delicious. Especially the fresh sashimi and fried mixed tempura. Also, we asked for another bowl of miso soup because it was so yummy and the nice waiter gave it to us straight away. Highly recommend to everyone! I especially love the fried pork cutlet meal.
Phuong Tran and I come here for Lunch. Arriving at 1.30pm most of the Lunchtime crowd have left. We order two mains to share and before long our meals are served.
*Medium Sashimi ($29) is nicely presented and chilled on crushed ice. The Sashimi are mostly thick-cut and fresh but I am disappointed with the freshness of the thin-cut Tuna. Rating: 4.0/5.0
*Steak Don ($14.80) looks appetising and the sliced steak is perfectly grilled. Delicious and great value. Rating: 4.5/5.0
We enjoyed our meal here and service is fast and friendly. Thank you Ren Japanese!
I went there last week to celebrate my birthday with my family and it was great! We were expecting the meal to be over $100 considering that some other places that sell sashimi and nigiri are crazy expensive, but this place is pretty affordable! The fish was also really fresh. We bought a medium sashimi set, a large nigiri platter and a tempura udon, and the total for all 3 dishes was around $88, so I reckon it was a pretty good deal! Definitely would come back again š

A great spot that offers a variety of bento box combo to sashimi and jap curries. Friendly staff, great service and quiet spot to hang out :)
I came here very often and I think itās definitely one of the better Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. The portion size is plenty for the price. I specially love chawanmushi so they get an extra point for having this on the menu š, ok on serious note, they used to have a rude waitress but rest assured she has now left. I tried most of the things on the menu but I didnāt take any pic since Iām a regular customer (will try take some and upload later). My favourites are: salmon lovers bento, assorted bento, wagyu steak (love the sauce), kamashioyaki and special bento. These are not in any order as I rotate them all the time. Their sashimi is fresh. Decor is good.
Itās a really nice quiet restaurant thatās has good cheap lunch deals, I would always go for the teriyaki salmon set! The is sashimi is always well presented and sizing is good too but it can get quiet busy so sometimes itās best to call up and book a spot
I came at dinner time and the restaurant was fully packed. I didn't have to wait any longer for a table, however the table I was seated at was along the high table in front of the microwave. Apart from this, the food tasted delicious! I ordered the sashimi lover bento which also came with miso soup and Japanese egg custard. I would highly recommend getting the bentos as they are very filling and full of variety.
Delicious food and draft, lovely staff :) :) Could do with making the atmosphere more intimate but other than that this place is perfect! Prices are good for the serving sizes you get
havenāt been back here in a year or two but decided to pop by for their lunch specials~ ordered from the lunch special menu: tonkatsu set, sushi and udon set and the assorted bento set, all came with miso soup, sushi & udon and the bento set also came with japanese fish egg~ from their all day menu we ordered agedashi tofu and their salt and pepper squid.
tonkatsu was yummy~ it was a bit on the dry side but you canāt expect anything else really from a tonkatsu~
sushi and udon was pretty good!! sashimi was not the freshest but still nice~
bento set was lovely, a huge arrange of different foods~ tempura was great~
agedashi tofu was a big serving, very worth the price! (four pieces of tofu not three)
squid was nice and fresh!!
overall a lovely japanese restaurant in runcorn~~
This place was surprisingly delicious their sashimi was super fresh and very detail. The detail they clean the tuna was super good. But expect waiting time for each dish coming out to be slow. Overall this place was good
Met up with two other families from church for a lunch date. Most of us went for the lunch specials, and my family had:
* S2 jumbo chirashi set $22.50
* S3 Tonkatsu set (with side dishes) $16.80
* S11 kids set $12.80
Wifey loved her jumbo chirashi set, and thought it was excellent value. It was only $1 more than a kaizen don special she had from another Japanese eatery recently, but this came with more fish and less rice, which suited her preferences to a T. And bonus points for being on the regular menu, so I can see repeated visits for this dish alone. Her meal also came with a chawanmushi
My tonkatsu was pretty well executed too, with all the elements working well to provide a balance of textures and flavours. This was the first time I've been served grind-your-own black sesame, so I felt both cultured (for having it in front of me) and uncultured (for not knowing what I was supposed to do with it) at the same time! I ended up using it as a separate dry dip of sorts (dip pork in sauce, then dab on some sesame), but learnt later on that it should be added to the sauce (amount according to preference)... I think? Anyways, it was tasty and filling, so two thumbs up.
The boy enjoyed his kids set which was served in an aeroplane container. There's a fair amount of food included (maki sushi, ebi fry, salad, teriyaki chicken, plus a bowl of udon which is not pictured) and he couldn't finish so I got to eat some of it too. Funnily enough he had room for the ice cream that came later!
It's been years since our first visit to Ren. Somehow it just hasn't been that high on the revisit list but after this second visit I'm sure our next ones will come up much sooner.
Nice and fresh sashimi. Great tasting japanese dishes. Better than your average sushi joint, fancy but not quite fine dining.
