Review Mocha Monkees - Brisbane

Joe Khoo
Mocha Monkees serves the best coffee from Brisbane City to Newstead. I like my coffee hot, intense, full flavoured with a touch of bitterness. Bellissimo! Highly recommended!

I absolutely love the coffee and also you have 3 different blends to choose from - smooth to intense. There is a great selection of food and the service was superb. We really enjoyed our breakfast with the very generous portions.

Had a nice time here on Friday! Very friendly service in a warm environment. I got the eggs benny and added some Halloumi as i was extra hungry! Food came out pretty quickly, as i was still sipping on my coffee. The coffee was strong and the flavour was good.

The eggs were done perfectly so i got to see a nice bit of yolk porn as i ran my knife though it. I washed it down with a green juice and finished my coffee.
Next time i would like to try the Meat Feast Sub, i saw someone at the table next to me with it and i had a bit of food envy. haha
The prices are lower than other cafes but they haven't compromised quality. :)

When you want to take a break from all the fancy brekkies, edible flowers and want something reliable and comforting- Mocha Monkees is the place to go.

I ordered a Maiale Benedict and my wife ordered the Verdura Benedict. At $13.90 each, the dish is generous and very filling. You can tell that the chef & owner Patrick does not scrimp on flavour and ingredients. Despite being busy in the kitchen, he comes out and checks in on all the customers, making sure to greet all his regulars.

My only wish was that the eggs were runny as there’s nothing better than oozing yolk goodness in the morning.

Recently moved with work to this area and after trying a bunch of places around the area decided on Mocha Monkees for the coffee: it's the best coffee in the area, end of story. Also, unlike many other places, they hit it out of the park every day every coffee. Throw in three different coffee blends to choose from for whatever your mood is and it's just all win. (I recommend Forza for a smooth, rich morning pick up)

I've been getting into their meals as well though and they seem to be growing their range in even just the short time I've been going. I'll just pick a few of the things I've had to give some idea.

The pizzas are really good with the Sapore pizza having a bit of a spicy tang to it. It's become my go-to pizza from them. (It was today's lunch.)

Their counter has more ready made stuff but from there I can never look beyond the Chili Chicken Slaw Roll. Getting that toasted to go is excellent but messy!

Finally a mention of some of their burgers: the XL BBQ burger is a really tasty well put together 'standard' kind of burger however the Kuro Japanese beef burger is a step above for me. Patrick recommended it and it did take me a little while to try it but I should not have waited. Definitely worth a look if you fancy a burger.

Throw in ALL the friendly staff and it's all round just a great place to pop in by.

My work recently relocated to the Valley and priority no.1 was to find the best coffee... and we found it at Mocha Monkees! They have 3 blends and they're all delicious, best in town (and I've tried dozens of cafe's). Well priced too, with happy hour after 2pm for a discount on your coffee. The service is great. Very friendly owner and team. Food is delicious (XL Burger is amazing, pizza's awesome, for breakfast bacon and egg toasties really hit the spot). I'm happy to recommend Mocha Monkees. They also have a good rewards program!

Mocha Monkees is a new coffee shop just in front of the Centenary Place Park which in itself is a great excuse to grab a cuppa and sit at one of the benches just across to relax and enjoy a good dose of caffeine.

Arriving at the shop after been invited I'm faced with a line waiting to have their orders taken and I'm happy to have some time to decide on what I'm eating.

Checking their drink menu they not only have coffees but also different smoothies and cold drinks options such as the Chai over ice which is the one I decide to have.

The chai over ice packs a delightful chai flavour maybe just a little bit sweeter than I'd prefer but that might have been due my order being made with soy milk which tends to be sweeter than dairy milk. I quite enjoy my drink and would rate it a 4.5 out of 5.

To follow with my dining experience I enquired about the vegan options which are announced to exist by a sign near the counter. There are not plenty of those but a couple of options, a vegan sub or a vegan burger. Patrick also tells me that it's the first time they have had Vegan options available on the menu.

I opt for the vegan sub and enjoy my drink while it's prepared by Patrick himself. After a short wait I'm served my food and can't wait to start eating it as it looks amazing!

The sub is bigger than I was expecting, great value for less than $10.00, the flavour is there, the vegetables are well seasoned, it brings some heat probably from the relish. The bread is also soft and moist. Everything tastes so fresh that I'm in love with this vegan sub! I would rate it a 5 out of 5.

This place brings a lot to the breakfast game around the valley, good food, good management and cheap prices!

I receive a lunch invitation and on Wednesday we walk in at 11.45am and we are warmly greeted by Patrick, Owner Chef of Mocha Monkees. After a chat, Patrick provides us with Menus as he attends to a large catering order.

We sip on our drinks, a Summer Berry Smoothie and a Strawberry Shake, as we wait for our lunch. When lunch is served we can see that our order is nicely presented and has been freshly prepared by Chef Patrick.

* Mediterrani ($14.90) is akin to a Big Breakfast. Phuong Tran says every ingredient is well cooked and she enjoys the Fried Eggs, Bacon, Haloumi, Avocado and buttered Sourdough. She rates this meal 4.5/5.0

*Verdura Benedict ($13.90) is served with two poached eggs, wilted Spinach and Mushrooms atop buttered Sourdough. I ask for a side of Haloumi ($3) and Chorizo ($3). The firmer poached eggs are perfect for my taste and I especially like the sliced mushrooms and delicious Sourdough. I rate this meal 4.5/5.0

*We opt for the Piazza Doro Forza Coffee as suggested by Chef Patrick. Served extra hot, the double shot Cafe Latte is dark, full flavoured and intense, almost like 3.5 shots. This is a wonderful Coffee and we rate it 5.0/5.0

The Breakfast Menu and Coffee is highly recommended. And prices are very reasonable considering the quality and generous serves. Value for money improves the overall rating to 5! Thank you and good luck Chef Patrick!

I received a very gracious invite last week from Patrick, the manager of Mocha Monkees, situated along Wickham Street of Fortitude Valley. Being within walking distance to work, I took the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing weekday lunch with my colleague Spiderman, whilst Iron Fist was away. The brisk walk was very enjoyable, and we reached our destination at our agreed time of 11.45am, as usual, before the lunch rush.

This cafe used to be Stella Rossa & I had been meaning to try it out for some time. When I finally pass by with intentions of calling in I find a new name Mocha Monkees- quite catchy & no doubt better than Stella Rossa which can be a hit & miss affair. My Piazo D'oro flat white was pretty good, very smooth & hit the mark strength wise with three quarters milk in the small sized cup

"I have a special diet, I eat what is on the specials board" an old family joke, but it fits very well for Mocha Monkees as I always check it on my way to work. Great quality and good value for a work day eatery in the area, it has become my regular #1 stop for takeaway lunch. Great selection from a hearty bacon burger to a health friendly salad, its easy to find something to enjoy on the menu or under the glass.

5 star - affordable weekday lunch with quality ingredients and great flavour.

Visited this café under new management (was misled by one of the staff who told me that it was the same management of Stellarossa) this morning and thanks for the invitation from Mr Patrick Vahala, who shows his passionate attitude in managing this café.
Indeed, the first step in the café, I can feel the new face-lifted not only on the set-up but the vibe. It is much more energetic than my first visit. Have a quick chat with Patrick and realised that they are at the transition period of first week trading during my last visit. There are a lot of changes being on and going to... Love the display cabinet that has a very comfortable but attractive knighting that highlight all the display items. Love the changes of providing three choices (Double-origin, Mezzo & Forza) of bean for coffee that tailor for individual taste buds. I ordered my usual flat white with Forza and have a bowl of Tomato soup with additional chicken & mushroom. Coffee is well strong enough for me and the smoothness is spot-on. The soup should be the hero, where the sourness from the tomato is just well matched my palate. Importantly, the texture of the grilled chicken pieces and the tasteful mushroom are immaculate addition that foodies should not miss with the soup.
Overall, I cannot find any faultiness under an opened-mind judgement this morning and I wish the management keeps their passion for the future trade. Wish them all the best!

2 months ago Rating 3/5
To say it is a new-born baby, I would say it is an actual face-lifted as I was told by the staff that even this cafe is under a new name but still the same management of Stellarossa as before. Although the Piazza Doro brew was not bad for my flat white, the croissant with ham & cheese was under the par. The ham was just too dry and so as the cheese! Not a good impression though! Half mark is credit for the coffee of this review.

Decided to stop in on the way to work after noticing they had changed from Stella Rossa to MM. I wasn’t a fan of the old menu but thought I would give it a try and I was actually really impressed. First thing I noticed was that everything looks to be made fresh. Compared to what this place used to offer under Stella, they have definitely stepped it up a few notches. I went with the Mediterranean breakfast and for $15 it was enormous. I almost had trouble finishing it.. I particularly liked the combination of flavors between the sweet, perfectly cooked tomatoes and tangy balsamic dressing. Great serving of crunchy sourdough topped with fried eggs and crispy bacon made me a very happy boy and I left with the knowledge that I now know a great place in fortitude valley to get a big brekky on the cheap. Definitely will back to try the bagels. Also love the fact they have three types of coffee to choose from. Awesome serving size and service!

I ordered the pie and chips.
The service is functional but not friendly.
The pie was hot and yum.
The chips were still raw/uncooked and limp.
The gravy they gave was so thin it was barely brown.
How do you mess up our and chips? These guys can show you.

Extra star for the pie being cooked.
