Review Tibetan Kitchen - Brisbane

Vivek Bannore
Helpful and friendly staff. Located in Toowong Village between Grill'd and San Churros. Ample parking space. Ample seating space - indoor and outdoor. Food portion is good and it is delicious. Simple yet so flavoursome. Their menu has lots of vegetarian options too. Highly recommend a visit to Tibetan Kitchen.

They have a different taste of usual looking dishes such as fried noodles and tofu curry. Really refreshing. The tofu curry was a bit too much tangy for me. However noodles were very flavourful.

I love this place! I’ve been to nearly ever Tibetan restaurant in Brisbane and this place is the best. The food is the freshest and tastiest! I live up the road and come here weekly if not more often. When I think about celebrations, Tibetan Kitchen Toowong is always my first option and it never disappoints. From the starter to the dessert the quality and tastes of everything was outstanding, my Sherpa Chicken might have been the best meal I have ever been served. Service was delightful and very professional. 10/10 I highly recommend.

I had the Goat Curry today, and it was very delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed the goat, and the authenticity of the dish was very great. The raita sauce on the side was also very tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I recommend this to anyone who wants to explore Nepalese cuisine. I can't wait to come back!

Love the food, not over powering, goes down good. Enjoy ever bite. If in Toowong, you have to given a try.

Had takeaway here tonight. I had Kathmandu chicken and hubby had Tibetan style steak. Both meals were really yummy and great value for money. Very filling!

We went to The Tibetan Kitchen for dessert. The desserts were fresh and the flavours were delicate. The deep fried ice cream was amazing. The staff are friendly, respectful and passionate about their menu. Will definitely dine there again.

Relaxed and easy to access. Fresh and well cooked food. Enjoyable. We have been three times and never disappointed

Took a groupon deal to have a Sunday lunch here a couple of months ago. Honestly, it was not the first time to have lunch here.
We ordered a mixer entrée to share and mains of Salmon Maccha and Pork Chow Noodles. Entrée came within reasonable time frame and the dumplings, sitan & sekuwa were interesting. Mains of Salmon prepared well and the Fried noodle was unexpected with "wok qi".
With a nearly 50% price, the CP ratio is good. Cheers!

Amazing food and even better customer service. Do try the Somar (Nepalese tofu curry) and the chicken chili fried noodles.
The ambience is perfect for a relaxing meal.

Visited this restaurant again after almost a year for dinner. I like the yoga meditation type of music playing at the restaurant. A very relaxing and nice environment. Food was great and service was also fantastic.
————————
We visited here again just recently. The menu has changed. There are two vegetarian mains. We tried the noodles which was very tasty. But not particularly Tibetan. Much better than before we though.
——————————

We’ve been here twice. It was all right. Not excellent though. The vegetarian meals we had weren't impressive. The staff are polite though. It's got a nice decoration too.
—————————————————————————————————————

We came here before and liked it though were disappointed with the number of menu items that were unavailable at the time. We bought an online voucher to come again another time. We have family issues which made it tricky to get back and rang to see if they could let us come on the last day it was valid, but NO. They would not let us come on the last day and refused to extend it a day to let us come tomorrow. DISAPPOINTING! There are enough restaurants in Brisbane that behaving badly is unnecessary. DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE BACK.

Best thali I ever had in Brisbane. Cooking is great with mild spices. Tea is the best. Great service and environment. Highly recommended for curry lovers.

Went here sporadically after seeing a Scoopon deal for $29 (2 entrees, 2 mains, 1 desert, 2 drinks). Sounded like a bargain!
Unfortunately although the Scoopon site has a link to their entire menu online, the deal only included select dishes - which were hardly anything for 1 vegan and 1 vegetarian dining together.
We ordered the only 2 veg entrees: Pakora and Spring Rolls - Sooooo oily and burnt :(
For mains the waiter said we could get the vege curry (not listed on Scoopon menu) so we thanked him but said I guess we have to go with that one if it’s the only option! Unfortunately, yet again another OILY dish with more oily Pappadums on the side. I don’t know what the chef was thinking!?!?
There were no dairy free deserts so I asked for a hot chocolate on soy, which the waiter said yes sure.. only to see them pour dairy milk into the jug... erg.
The red wine we got was probably the only half decent thing we received.
The place was busy when we arrived but the 2 waiters seemed slow and clueless. We had to ask for the menu, ask for cutlery, ask for napkins, ask for the hot chocolate to be remade.
Just overall not worth even the cheap Scoopon deal, I’d rather pay full price and get decent food.
It was our 1st time and we dined here last night on a Groupon voucher and the food was very average, spring rolls and pakora's were burnt and extremely oily, mains were mediocre, the salmon was overcooked and dry and chicken curry dish was also very oily. Nice and clean establishment with minimal decor and nil ambience, but staff were lovely and friendly and service was prompt.

We have ordered at this restaurant for the first time through foodora, the delivery was 45 minutes late so we called the restaurant to find out the status of the food and the person on the phone was extremely rude and told me that the food was ready and to go and pick it up myself and that they have nothing to do with foodora. Understandable that the delay was because of foodora, however, this person didn't even let me talk and got angry at me. I said that I got to know the restaurant because of foodora so they for sure have a deal with them as they appear on the foodora app

Oh and the food was not good, there are so many better options to chose from and you would get quality for what you paid and descent customer service. I will not recommend this restaurant at all

I was interested in trying the tipan tapan since my friend said it was good. After reading zomato, I had little expectation on this restaurant. It turned out that some people were right about the taste of the food. It was too bland for me. For portion, I thought it was okay for me although tipan tapan was an entree. I was full already by eating just one serving. But I think it depends on people. I’ll give 2.5 for them. Although service was ok but not for the taste also it took a long time for preparing the food

Have to agree with the previous reviewer with regard to the curries lacking flavor & watery. Although our entree was pretty good (we had the deconstructed samosas) The tiny samosa had been chopped up & the pastry was fluffy with a decent crunch. Our mains were hit & miss though. We have always loved the Tibetan Kitchens. Our favorite one moved from Hardgrave Road a couple of years ago & the one in Petrie Terrace is also very good. I am scoring this one a three as the service was OK & we loved the setting. Also my dhal bat takari platter, although the lentil curry was a disaster my mixed vegetable one was very tasty with a good mix of fresh spiced vegetables. My partner was disappointed with the chicken. Didn't look good on the plate & was far from tasting good, bland no spice

Waited for 40 minutes at our table for food to arrive on a Thursday night. The portions were small and did not fill us up as well. Would recommend the Tibetan steamed buns which were soft, fluffy and pleasant to eat. However the curries were lacking flavour, watery and bland.

Food was delicious, but service abominable: it took half an hour for my drink to come out (not a fancy cocktail or a fussy coffee, but a can of soft drink), while the food took nearly an hour; it was not a busy night.

Visited this place for a birthday dinner with a group of 15. One of the dishes is a whole chicken and we ordered 4 of them. The first one came after 40 mins as a whole chicken and that was fine. The waiter then said something about "not having enough plates" for the other 3 chicken. Really? She then said they would "portion it onto one plate." We were fine with that. When the 'portions' arrived, it was clearly

Decent place, good to look at, service was nice, food was pretty good. Took a long time for the food to come out considering we were the only table, but still fairly good. Had better.
The Food Oracle
I love the samosas here, they cut them up and drizzle chilli sauce and yoghurt over them, so so tasty. We also had two of the platter style dish for one (has dahl, vege curry, chicken/lamb curry, pickles and rice). We asked for medium and these were pretty darn hot! Not inedible, but perhaps not what you usually expect in Australian when ordering 'medium.' Still very tasty and enjoyable.
The restaurant was incredibly cold for some reason, it was weird to see everyone wearing big jackets inside the restaurant. Perhaps it was just for the authentic Nepalese mountain experience.

I thought I would try this restaurant for lunch today..... The food lacked flavour and the chef did not have the skills to develop the ingredients correctly. Sorry, will not be returning.

Been meaning to try this place for a while and finally did last night. Found the wait staff to be stand-offish, we waited for their attention when we arrived, they had seems us, eventually sat ourselves down. Menus were provided without a word, i made it clear we had byo for corkage, they did not offer to store or open, made use of a knife handle to open a beer.

Service may have been average but the food was great, spinach dahl soup, momos, Kathmandu chicken, Everest soup our table ordered and all very happy.

I went to Tibetan Kitchen for Sunday dinner. The food was absolutely delicious, with perfectly cooked meat and the right amount of spice. I ordered the Sherpa Stew, and it was easily a large enough portion to last for two meals (took the rest home as it was too good to leave behind). Service was a tad slow, so wouldn't have been too good if I was in a hurry, but the food was easily worth the wait. I would definitely come back again.

I was so stoked when they first came to Toowong I was a very frequent customer -wanted to support them so they would survive. It was always pretty good- normal new place hiccups. Sherpa chicken is always a fave. One night ordered takeaway, went to pick it up a bit later and still waited 25 mins to receive. Got it home, everything was burning. Don't get me wrong, I love spicy and it was hot for me. But it wasn't all for me. We ordered med). The 2 curries were super hot and not the usual we had had from there several times before. We were missing a few sides too. I called them up to let them know we wanted new food and I'd be back soon (we live around the corner). I was put on hold and passed to the older lady. She told us they were too busy and could we come another time. Wtf. I'm getting hangry at this point. She puts me on hold/hangs up. I call back, no one answers. I call again. Someone finally answers and I go on hold again. This time a man picks up, in the end everyone decides it's best not to get a re-order of from the chef (spit paranoia) so I say I'll have a credit. They tell me I can have a credit for ONE curry only. Not the pappadams, not the other missing stuff and not the other ruined curry. This happened a couple of months ago. Their shady customer service still annoys me.

Came here for a quick lunch of fried momos and walked away disappointed by the service and the quality. Momos should be juicy, theirs were dry and stiff in the middle. I told the waitress I was dining in and she brought me my food in a plastic Chinese container with a tiny pot of watery tomato dipping sauce with no cutlery or napkin. Momos had flavor but no substance. I won't be back.

West End's Tibetan Kitchen that recently closed down has been reincarnated in Toowong bringing back its mysterious and alluring ambience. Coming in on a Sunday afternoon for lunch after a Mt Cootha cycle, a medium somar tofu curry really hit the spot. I will definitely have to come back another night with friends to sample all the other dishes!

Absolutely loved the homely, tasty Tibetan cuisine. I had the Sherpa chicken and mono dumplings, both had fabulous, smoky flavours. Can't wait to try the other dishes. My partner loved the Chow chow Noodles, he raved about them for the rest of the afternoon.

The food was sublime. I highly recommend the Goru Ko Masu, which was a succulent beef dish made with Nepalese spices (by the way it's gluten free) and served with rice ($16.90). The garlic bread has a hint of cheese and it's handmade to perfection. It comes out warm, fragrant and slightly buttered but not oily. I paired it with the Maker's Table savignon blanc from Southeastern Australia.

The customer service is mixed. The manager (who is also one of the chefs) did not greet me as I came through the door and said hi. Instead she started and me and took her time asking me what I wanted. The aroma from the kitchen and the beautiful decor compelled me to stay despite this lacklustre start. No one came to my table after my food was initially delivered to check on my meal and there was no one behind the counter so I got up after awhile to order the bread. This time the other chef greeted me and delivered the bread and she was so lovely. She apologised for the slow delivery and thanked me for coming to eat at their restaurant.

The food and atmosphere more than make up for this disparate treatment. They play a range of Nepalese music that varies from a samba to country style music to sweet acoustic guitar to low enigmatic chanting. Situated amidst chain restaurants, the colourful papers hanging from the ceiling and the flavours of the meal make for a truly a wonderful experience that's not to be mixed.

I went to Tibetan Kitchen at Toowong a few nights ago with 3 other people. The service was okay. We ordered a plate of the mixed-entrees, which ended up being a tiny serving for the price! Definitely not a generous portion and not value for money. We ordered 3 curries (1 chicken & 2 lambs) which tasted okay, the meat was a bit dry. The portion size was a little better. We also ordered 1 vegetarian dish which consisted of vegetarian dumplings (filled with potatoes and other vegetables), mini dish of chutney and a soup which tasted like Tom Yum. I think that was the best out of all we ordered.
I think overall this restaurant would be average for me . I feel this place is not value for money.

My family and I celebrated my sisters 21st here tonight and I think this might be a new favorite vegetarian restaurant! At first I was concerned about the modest decore and did not have high hopes, however this place is quiet, cosy and has a pleasant atmosphere. We picked Tibetan Kitchen because our group consisted of vegetarians, coeliacs and carnivores - and this place catered to all of those tastes exceedingly well! The vegetarian meals were beautiful - we ordered a range of entrees and mains and all of them were fantastic - I especially recommend the dumplings and the dahl soup, and the noodles! My meat eating friends were also very impressed and loved everything they ordered, same with the coeliacs who had a hard time deciding what to order on account of how delicious the menu was - this was a mutual problem as there is a lot of good stuff to choose from. Prices and portions here are very reasonable too, another bonus! We were a group of 15 people and together with entres, mains, and drinks the bill came to $500 - which is pretty damn good! We hope to come back again ASAP!
