Review Suncrop Seafood Restaurant - Brisbane

Picture Purrfect
Only go there for all-you-can-eat lunch, their yam cha dishes taste good, but they don't always have what I want and the service is quite slow. Also the shop is kind of dated and dirty, they put used yam cha holders near the toliet.

Food was not to bad and bargain price for buffet lunches and dinner (cheaper if paying by cash). Staff were helpful but don't expect service with a smile. Nit picking but have to pay extra for sauces that usually come with Yum Cha like spicy red sauce and soy sauce. Would come back if craving for yum cha and hungry like a hippo.

I was on the way to heaven with Mongolian Lamb and Fried Prawn dumplings...I thought this is going to be a 5 star experience...but thats where stairway to heaven ended and took a wrong turn. Long wait for food to arrive and few dishes not exactly as presented. Suddenly, PA system gone off with the volume 8/10 in the function area. Function group ( an infrastructure related company) started their funcion and the presentation. Ruined my dinner. I am not sure if I want to be disturbed while eating and listening to some loud presentation speech. I will definitely not be coming back.

For the city, this is ok. Nice area to sit in and actually an hour is enough time for 2 people to enjoy lunch and a chat. Feels clean and presentable. A bit of a lack in food options but still good quality dim sums. I especially loved the egg tart pastries and the BBQ Pork pastry and Black Bean Pork Ribs.

I took my niece here for the all you can eat yum cha. The service was standard but efficient. We had quite a few different options and the steamed prawn dumplings were so good! They had a good selection of both steamed and fried. We had a few fried dishes, however I found them a tad oily. My niece loved them though. I was happy to pay the price for the meal. I do recommend bringing cash as they charge more for card, which I was a tad dissapointed in. I will come back again however.

Where to start. Customer service is terrible, being greeted with "don't waste any food" wasn't a great start. Despite being all you can eat they mark the dishes you have on a docket and constantly come around checking if your time is up and how much you've had - and the trolleys just stop coming around. It's not all you can eat, it's all they want you to eat. Food was also really average at best, which you would accept for the price, if the customer service was anywhere near acceptable. Absolutely terrible experience. Anyone who thinks this is good yum cha has never actually had good yum cha... Will not return.

Wanting a good Yum Cha we were recommended to the Suncrop Seafood Restaurant by a local Chinese friend. After reading the many reviews available we were surprised at how many of those were negative and we were almost put off. But, we decided to go and try for ourselves and we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived at 11:30am and were shown to a table. We elected to go for the "all you can eat" option at $24.80 per head, which was the weekend and holiday rate. Apparently is cheaper on weekdays. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food generally of a high standard and the frequency of well stocked trolleys was excellent. Important to say also was that each choice was hot and fresh. We are well travelled and love our Yum Cha, which we have experienced in several world cities, including Guangzhou. Whilst we have experienced better, we did enjoy our meal and we rate the Suncrop a good 4/5 overall. Don't be put off by other reviews of Suncrop - it is certainly a worthy choice of venue to eat.

Had the all you can eat yum cha for dinner. Tea was of good flavour. All the food was of good quality - nothing was a real standout, but it was all very tasty. Service was good, most staff speak Cantonese but some speak Mandarin, English of all was good. Would come again.

Not the best yumcha but it's still enjoyable. Their all you can eat yumcha is worth the money (if you pay in cash that is!). Service is good.<br/><br/>(Once saw Craig Foster dine there, a host of the SBS FIFA live stream in 2018, which was cool.)

Yum Cha Review: Keep giving these guys a chance but unfortunately the food is just not fresh. Most recent time we went two weeks ago, we had the mixed shark fin dumpling and it tasted off. My partner bit into one and ate half then left it on the plate. We told a staff member they could take it away because it wasn’t fresh and the female manager made a comment in Mandarin (which my partner speaks so he can hear) to the staff member that they shouldn’t have taken our basket because we shouldn’t be wasting food. We wouldn’t have needed to if it didn’t taste off. The beef ribs had the flavour that meat gets when it’s past its “used by” date. We felt obligated to eat it because of the comments made by the female manager and they charge you for wasting plates. Have never had it happen but because she wasn’t understanding about the seafood dumpling I didn’t want to risk paying more for their mistakes. During the all you can eat if you have gone through too many meals/plates they almost avoid bringing the kart to you so they can still profit. Better off going for fresh dumpling at Enjoy Inn Portside

FOOD: light and tasty Chinese food. They are flexible with your choice if you need to add or remove something. Everything seems made-to-order and fresh. They have a vegetarian menu and their wines are good. They have all-you-can eat options and hopefully the food is good there too. I dint like the strict time limit on this. Lunch is 1 hours and dinner is 1.5 hours. Too tight I thought.<br/>SERVICE: friendly and patient. They let us in just before closing time and still dint seem to rush us.<br/>AMBIENCE: it's got a formal look. Overall average.<br/>LOCATION: conveniently located not far from the Chinatown in Fortitude Valley. They've got parking.

The food selection is pretty much like any other Yum Cha restaurant I've been to with steamed, fried and braised offerings.  Their chicken feet is one of the better variations I've had, the ribs usually come out rubbery. The steamed dumplings have always been good.  Service can be very slow at times meaning you may have to remind them 2-3 times about your long awaited drinks order. Occasionally some dishes end up cold but for the most part it all tastes good.  <br/><br/>The language barrier requires careful listening and patiently requesting a repeat of the description from some but not all staff members but given I'm monolingual I have plenty of time for anyone speaking their non-native language.<br/><br/>For AYCE they don't buff out the dishes with less fillings more dough/wrappings that sometimes happens when restaurants try and reduce their costs, which is great.<br/>Their cash discount is significant enough to warrant not paying by card (~13%).

TL;DR: Not mind-blowing, or paradigm shifting in any ways, but like any sort of enjoyable yum cha place, it has its fair share of great bites to be found on the menu, and is possibly the best in bringing a big group along.<br/><br/>What we have here is another yum cha restaurant. That is about all the needs to be known before diving right in. Well into the Valley, right here is possibly closer to the Emporium than it is to Chinatown and regardless of the location, the food was not half-bad. <br/><br/>Going here one weekend with my house mate, it was a gift for lunch in trying something a bit different to the norm. All these times passing by, it had been tempting and intriguing with what they were advertising outside. For a set price, with the given time limit of an hour, it is an all-you-can-eat yum cha. Small differences exist between lunch and dinner, namely a few extras for the latter, and the choices are put to what comes around on the carts. Well, it was time to dust off the gloves and say "game on" to this one. <br/><br/>Definitely where the credit gets given is with the design. For something that is right off the main road, there has definitely been an effort to make it look presentable, if not the best and most picturesque of places - though the points will always go more for what they do with what they got, and they managed to get good mileage here. From what I could tell, they have a second level here but don't quote me on that one. Each table is set up perfectly, complete with the paper in the middle, chopsticks, plate, bowl and all that, all of it ready for any patron to come through the door and take a seat. <br/><br/>With the service, put these two aspects in mind. This is a Chinese restaurant, and more importantly, the style of dining is yum cha. Everything here is done to clockwork, and if that means sacrificing the personable aspects of customer service, it is at a point of thinking "so be it". In other words, it is efficient to a T but don't expect to much of a smile or a salutation - that is just how it is here. That goes from the moment you step in the door, and it does not take them long to bring you to a table, and from plonking yourself down, it does not take long for them to get orders for drinks and take away excess crockery from the table. It all works similar to a computer system. In choosing the foods, it is from the carts that are carted around, and they stop and present the choices to each and every table. It is all set up and ready, with the plates, the sauces, and everything to present on the table - followed up by the items being marked off on the ticket - and on the other end of the service, they frequently cart around trolleys to collect dirty dishes to take to the kitchen. Efficiency is definitely the name of the game, since any little tasks like collecting the plates when they pile up and filling up the tea pots on the table will be done without a second's pause. <br/><br/>Now, let's get onto the fare that they have. This is one massive menu, and the yum cha part of it that I tried out extensively is just one component of the entire selection they have. These include all the famous and infamous delights galore, which are a range of dumplings, little nibbles, sweets, and some good old industrial cuts of meat. That is at lunch time. At dinner, four more options arrive - a couple of classic take-away style meals (nothing wrong with them in all honesty), some bok choy and a side of rice. Only making something pretty good, better by that virtue. When it comes to special occasions like Chinese New Year - just brace yourself. <br/><br/>Yum cha or some other time, what remains consistent is that a feast is guaranteed with a big group right here. On the a la carte menu, the options start with some sizzling dishes mainly involving lamb. A vegetarian sections exists in the abstract sense of the word with "vegetables and tofu" but those with that kind of diet should be more vigilant and read closer with seafood and pork popping up a lot. Both clay pots and noodle soups are also big draws, beef and pork dishes are aplenty followed up by some massive noodle dishes. Dessert is there, only a small selection but it sure will round a row of some involved eating to a delightful conclusion. <br/><br/>Of course, the drinks cannot be forgotten about either. They have all kinds of beers, and wines here, as well as spirits and liqueurs. On the non-alcoholic front, it has the usual sodas, some iced tea, orange juice, or just good old hot tea. <br/><br/>Starting off the meal, the offers of the soft drink of choice was given. As always when it comes to Chinese eating, the choice defaulted to some hot tea. This tea was pretty good, though not a whole lot of it was finished - you need either a few hours, or a couple of people drinking it - but was refreshing nonetheless. The flavour was mild here, and was the simple Chinese tea. <br/><br/>From all that I ate from the trays, the following is possibly not a complete list but only what could easily be recollected. It goes without saying that some are better and more memorable than others, with each one of them being pretty good in their own way. The selection of items that I tried included beef balls, bean curd rolls, several sorts of dumplings and wantons, barbecue pork pastry, and there was not any chance of leaving the place without getting the good old favourite that is sticky rice. <br/><br/>Practically every item was plump and filling, first starting with some beef balls that were made from a tender cut of beef that was flavoursome from the sauce they used. Others were pretty much what they were, the main examples being spring rolls and chicken satays with the latter honestly being served with a thick and rich sauce that made it that tad better. Also what were pretty good, if simple, there was barbecue pork pastries that were a bit sweet, with some buttery pastry and sweet pork, and the sesame ball was pretty similar as well. What also was good was the fried prawn dumpling, which easily speaks for itself. <br/><br/>The big stand outs go to the dim sum, which is always good when cooked right though hard to describe why beyond a delicious pork mince mixture, the scallop dumplings are a delight with the sweet, plump meat, and the prawn dumplings prove just as much there. But in saying all of this, two items stick out in my mind. The first one is the bean curd roll, that was soft and tender, infused well with sauce, and filled with pork and prawns in the middle. It is a plump, robust and delicious delight. The second one was the sticky rice, a mound of rice cooked with various fillings and items, wrapped in a banana leaf. Part of why it is good is what you find in it, here the main treasure was small bits of sausage. Hot, steamy and always a delight - if this was not the pick of the bunch, it is up there with them. <br/><br/>Finishing it off, if there was one weak part I would not order if it started over again (with retrospect, of course) that would have to be the turnip cake. Not that it was bad or anything, but next to everything else this was a bit bland and mostly existed as texture. <br/><br/>There really isn't anything that can be rightfully criticised about here, since everything is more or less done right; and on the other hand, as good as it was and as much as I enjoyed myself, there is not that much that stands out about here which is any different from many other yum cha places that I have eaten at over the years. It was just as good as it was expected, was really filling and good value, plus the service - while at the standard level of a Chinese restaurant - was vastly efficient and made the experience all the more worth while. More often than not, it is time like this that the 4.0-score is reserved, since it indicates a good number of strengths (which there were a few here), and that really sums it all up.

The food is good but we are very disappointed with long waiting time for the food and bad manner of the manager. He is very very rude , he is very defensive and talk loud.<br/>We seat down for half hour the same food coming again and again. When we place an order , we need to wait pretty much another half an hour for the food come out.<br/>If this is the strategy to make profit and not let customer order too much food in yum cha buffet , sorry , it's a mistake, because we will never come again . It is not a happy place for meal. We are very upset with this dinning experience.<br/>Also, I believe the business will be better with a well manner manager.

Agreed with Suzie Lee that this restaurant has been changed its management from the name of Oriental Seafood to Suncorp Seafood Restaurant and I quite sure that it is closely related to the Suncorp Restaurant trading in Sunnybank Plaza. Had Cudo deal for night Yum Cha AYCE last night. Well, it was a surprise to see the quality and taste of Dim Sims were all above average. Comparing to the service, the food production really is the hero of the restaurant. Being focus on trading as "Yum Cha only is not a bad strategy, I am sure that if the service could be upgraded (lack of smile particularly the manager), business of this restaurant would be much better. Honestly, it is worth to give it a go if you are Yum Cha fans.

Can easily taste that some food is not fresh, such as being reheated from previous day or frozen then reheated again. <br/><br/>Tea is so diluted. (when the tea is bad it not a good sign) <br/><br/>Trolley stops coming to you once they think you've had enough although it's all you can eat. <br/><br/>This is not an example of good yumcha.

Did the one hour all you can eat sitting. Very hot and stuffy - no air. Food was ok - most things tasted the same. Pretty much all dumplings - a few oily saucey meat dishes. Custard tarts always delicious.

Well, what can I say? Very nice foods but I will never go back there again. <br/>You know why? I just can't stand an unhappy, unfriendly & rude manager. <br/>The way the manager talks to you everyone around you can hear him.<br/>You never see a smile on his face and basically he has no sense of customer service and manner.<br/><br/>Thumbs down on you Suncrop Seafood Restaurant.

I've been here a few time despite the poor reviews as I've never really experienced the terrible service or delayed wait times on the food until yesterday. My goodness, the restaurant was half full and service was non existent. We waited about 15minutes between each dish. There were 11 of us and we had ordered enough dishes so that we would have a good selection hence not everyone was going to be able to eat every dish. Having the dishes come out one by one with about 10-15minute wait in between, some of us had to go without food as there was simply not enough. Every time we asked about our food or even just get a refill of tea, anger and elevated tone would come from the waitresses. We'd get yelled at, literally for asking extra dipping sauces. To top it all off, every time we tried to order more food, "If you don't finish your food we'll charge you extra for wastage" think we were told that 5 times just to have some semi frozen food to eat towards the end. My parents ended up going home hungry because they were tired of the long wait and being elderly, they would usually be in bed resting. By far the worst experience ever! If you intend to go make sure your the only customer to get good food and service. Even if you only see a half full restaurant, that's a busy night for them so perhaps go elsewhere.

Time limit for yum Cha buffet is an hour which is fair enough, however having to wait for 20mins for a food cart to come is just unacceptable. Staff are friendly but I still won't be coming back and won't recommend it to any friends or family.

Food was ok but the the dining environment wasn't too great. Tables are set up like fine dining but quite close to each other. They have good wine though.

We were going to enjoy a voucher deal but the staff refuse to give us an extra plate. According to their management, they told staff to limit the use of cutlery. I thought it was a joke until we find out they were serious.<br/>Staff then proceeded to take away the dishes which were not finished when we complained. <br/>The same thing happened with the table next to us but it was over a spoon. <br/>So don't go here and definitely don't pay first

We ate at this restaurant under it's previous name of Oriental Yum Cha and have been meaning to try it again since it changed ownership. We went with some friends and opted for the all-you-can-eat buffet which is good value if you are hungry. (Note that you get a 10% discount for paying cash.)<br/><br/>There was a good selection of dumplings and pastries and they were of reasonable quality and flavour. The sweet items were good - egg tarts, mango pancakes and taufu fah (sweet tofu pudding). You can order items that do not appear on the dim sum trolleys directly from the staff but the service is just a little haphazard - perhaps the staff are too busy.<br/><br/>The bathrooms are not that bad - the toilet cubicles were clean but perhaps the sink area in the ladies needs to be re tiled. The restaurant it quite modern and doesn't have the same noisy, buzzy atmosphere as the traditional yum cha restaurants.

Been to this place ages ago when it was called "Oriental Yum Cha. Not sure whether the same people were running it. Nothing from what I could see had changed much. <br/><br/>The dinner all you can eat was $29.80 (cash) and $33.80 (card) for 1.5 hours dining. <br/><br/>When we arrived there, we thought it was closed. Some chairs were stacked and left at one side in the front of the restaurant and it looked a bit dark. There was only one table of 2 pp and our table of 3 pp. <br/><br/>We tried most of the steamed dim sim: BBQ pork bun, Soup dumpling, Scallop dumpling, Shark fin dumpling, Bean curd roll and 3 trio dim sim. We were happy with those; served mice and hot, thin soft skin and full of fillings. <br/><br/>The Oyster kanlan was cooked nicely and well seasoned with the oyster sauce. <br/><br/>What I didn't try was Fried rice that my friend mentioned was too dry and bland, the chicken feet that were nice and the turnip cake that looked oily to me. <br/><br/>The Pork ribs took a bit of the waiting time, but they were tender and tasty. <br/><br/>The only disappointment was that fried calamari and egg tarts that we had expected were not available. Fortunately, the sesame balls were so yum. <br/><br/>Maybe we should not talk about the service since we could rarely find good service in Chinese restaurants.

Went for All You Can Eat Buffet.  We were very disappointed.  Not just the selections were very limited (only three dim sum trolleys), some of the dishes were inedible.  Pastry tasted like cardboard, steam dim sums were bland and not fresh, deep fry dim sums were cold.  My friend’s shrimps had a fishy slimy texture and didn't taste fresh. The pork dumpling was cold on the inside and chewy which shouldn't happen since everything should be steamed and cooked thoroughly.  Spring rolls were soggy and chewy.  Another problem was the bathroom.  It was dirty and smelly.  I mean real dirty!!!  It really made us completely lost appetite.  You won’t eat much after going there.  Ironically, we had All You Can Eat Buffet!!  Be aware of cockroaches when in the bathrooms.  The ventilation was not good either and most of us were sweaty and felt very uncomfortable.  Make sure to check your utensils.  We had to change half of them because they were all dirty with marks.  The previous restaurant was closed and  changed to this one.  We thought this one would be better.  Very disappointing this one is actually worse!  Not just we won’t go there again, we will also let our friends and friends of the friends know not to go there.  Don’t waste money, don’t waste time and most definitely don’t eat bad dishes like these! If I could give negative scores, I would!

The food is decent and comes out pretty quickly (we were there after 1130). <br/><br/>The only comment would be that the salt and pepper calamari was not as seasoned to my preference. Otherwise I enjoyed the other dishes. <br/><br/>Agree with the other reviewer about the toilet. The finishings are new but when you use it you realize it's pretty dirty. Especially taking my toddler there.<br/><br/>Parking is convenient as it's free underground. I wish the air con was turned up... They had extra fans going but still felt very humid inside. They did have some chilled water which we appreciated but we had to keep asking for refills for our large table... Didn't quite go all the way around. <br/><br/>Food is alright but hopefully other things could improve for a more comfortable experience.
The Food Oracle
Pretty good yum cha, good for a crowd because sorting the bill becomes easier with the AYCE special. The best dishes were the soup dumplings (add the vinegar), pork dim sum, steamed guilan. <br/>I'm a bit sad they ran out of the egg tarts but the mango pudding was a sweet end to the meal. <br/>Service is swift and friendly enough.<br/>Bathrooms left a lot to be desired.... lucky i saw them only after eating. <br/>But free hot green tea is a bonus!<br/>Note that the special price is for cash, it's a few bucks extra pp for payment by card.

Spectacular! Had an amazing meal, very good value for money, excellent service. The yum Cha options were extensive and all very tasty. Will definitely be back!

Came here for the yumcha buffet because it seems like really good value if you can eat a lot in 1.5 hours. Staff were friendly except the manager. Food was alright, however the utensils were all dirty with marks. <br/><br/>During my dinner I went to the ladies only to be greeted with a massive COCKROACH at the door. <br/><br/>Not sure if I'll ever come back again...

My friend recommended me to this restaurant. The food was really nice and I like the atmosphere at there! I really want to compliment for the desserts! Especially the mango pancake! However, I was disappointed that the sweet tofu was sold out. I must come back and try it next time!

My favourite Chinese Yum Cha restaurant in Brisbane! I visited several times had the "all you can eat" Yum cha! Was surprised by the food quality and the price! It was just $19.80 per person for one hour dining! The service was fast and efficient! I will definitely recommend to my friends!

It was my first yumcha experience in Australia and the food were super delicious! They are having promotion now only $20 cash price "all you can eat" in one hour during lunch time. I will definitely visit it again!
