I had the Char Kway Teow which was fantastic - tender beef, lots of flavour, good 'breath of the wok' and best of all - no MSG after-thirst! Yum - from a Malaysian!

There’s an old adage that the dingier the Asian restaurant, the tastier the food. And though we’re not strictly applying this rationale to Little Malaysia, what this quaint indoor/outdoor outlet in the bustling heart of West End lacks in bells and whistles, it certainly makes up for in authenticity and the ability to please with every bite. If impressively speedy and friendly service – both during peak dinner trade and quieter periods – makes for exactly the kind of casual dining experience you seek for a midweek date or weekend boozy dinner, take note of this quiet achiever.

It may not look like much, but the food at Little Malaysia punches above its weight.
In particular, the Little Malaysia Mongolian Chicken is really great. My favorite Malaysian/Thai restaurant in Brisbane.

Very good value for money!

A relaxed Malaysian kitchen with an authentic feel. Good value too. BYO (there's a bottle shop down the street).

I'm no expert on Malaysian food, but I've eaten enough of it to compare the good and bad.

Had the Nasi lemak and it was superb. Will certainly return.

Had lunch there today. Were the only people there (hubby and I but it was just before noon). Food was awesome. Had roti and curry sauce as entree. Very yummy. Then I had sambal chicken with coconut rice and hubby had massaman beef with coconut rice. Both extremely tasty and very filling. I wanted to try the deep fried ice cream but couldn't fit it in. Next time.....

My greatest disaapointment with this place is that the are closed on Tuesday. Why ? Rest? You don't need that when I want my damn nasi lemak. Just leave some outside and I'll drop a few pingers through the mail box hole.

Little Malaysia - West End, Brisbane. It does not look like a lot from the outside, and it is not really that much in terms of aesthetic in the interior; hopefully that is not the reason why people visit a place to eat. I know for sure that it is all about the food when it comes to dining out, and this hole in the wall will provide a substantial meal without breaking much budget.

Much like most of the shops in the tiny strip it is in, the place does not look like an awful lot. These several shops seem to have a philosophy of no-frills; Little Malaysia is likewise, yet the term cannot be attributed to the service. The lady was generally pleasant and while I was eating there, I observed how well she was interacting with another group of ladies who had come in looking for a place for lunch.
The dining area is pretty small, and the kitchen might even be bigger than it. The kitchen is in view and hearing the sounds plus seeing the cooks in action gives a lot of reminders to a hawker's stall in a market place. Somehow, often when a Malaysian place is like this it is at the best it can be.

One of the biggest draws of this place is - as with a lot of places around the lunchtime rush - is the lunch special. Amongst these was what I got, the sambal beef. This is one of the best place around the vicinity for a quick lunch because it is both freshly made and very quick. Serving sizes are generous, and substantial. The meal was a well balanced proportion of meat and the mixture of onion and capsicum; while I have had spicier dishes in my time (or I have built up a tolerance) the heat was noticeable and pleasant tasting.
On the side I asked for some roti canai since it is hard to turn down, and also to wipe up remnants from the dish. The rotis here are baked fresh on the premise and hot off the presses, giving it that irresistible buttery texture and flavour. It pulled apart really well.

The lunch special came with a choice of a Coca Cola variety or water, and I opted for the latter. Still, I got something else to drink: Kopi Tarik, a Malaysian style coffee. Much like the types of coffee from neighbouring countries like Vietnam and Thailand, Malaysian coffee has a base of condensed milk. The best way to describe this drink is that it is like a really sweet flat white. It is hot, and I had to get a napkin to wrap around the glass it was that hot. For something different to the norm, it was a great little drink; the temperature helped it to last the entire meal.

All up, this was pretty good. The food is authentic, the setting is low-key and the serving has some charm to it. With such an extensive menu there is bound to be something for every taste available here.

Dinner review. I've been going to Little Malaysia for nearly 2 years now. I absolutely love the fact that they maintain their quality on a consistent basis. I have never had any issues with the service or the quality of food. Good location, friendly staff, decent variety. I normally get the Singaporean noodles or mee goreng noodles with chicken. Have referred this place to a number of my friends and all have been satisfied. The food quantity and value for $$ is very reasonable. Minimal wait time for your meals too. Highly recommended !

Hmm authentic Malaysian food?. Thumbs-up for their hainan chicken rice, butter herbal chicken, butter prawns, salt and pepper soft shell crab, lime leaves chicken, black pepper beef and their special eggplants with salted fish.

But their cooking is more to chinese style not Malaysian. their nasi lemak is a huge disappointment for me. Too different than the normal nasi lemak (coconut rice with sambal, hard boiled eggs, cucumber, peanuts and anchovies) and pricey as well. The taste is too bland and again, not like a typical nasi lemak that you can find in Malaysia. Had their teh tarik both hot and cold. It tasted like they used the instant pre mix. Their char kuey tiow is too dark, charred and dried.

Would come for their famous chicken rice, but not dare to try other menu.

Friendly service and great authentic Malay dishes. Roti carne (delicious melting flatbread with meaty dipping sauce) was a standout, but Laksa also very good. Simple cafe style surrounds and great value.

Good food good service not much you can ask for. Family run feels like home cooking which is what I love about the place and it's super fast. Chicken kung po, nasi Goreng and the laksa are my favourites.
