Review The Burrito Bar - Brisbane

Louise
Tried the 2-for-1 chicken taco special and was thoroughly dissappointed. I've had burrito bar tacos before and they've been good. This time though, they just contained chicken and old/dry tomato onion salsa. No cheese, coriander or lime!? The pulled beef burrito also only contained the meat with tomato mix, no beans, no cheese? The chilli poppers were also not as good as normal - tiny half chillies served with literally 4 shredded lettuce pieces as garnish...)

So firstly . We went on Wednesday night as it is famous for its wings deal on Wednesday, we wanna go there to have our dinner. I know we have gone 90minutes before closing. Firstly, the person at the front is like not friendly at all. Common! as a customer service you need to your job . We are paying for the food don’t treat like we are having it for free!!. Even though she know that we are above 18 years of age! she demands our id. (Which we provided after little discussion). Second, we got the table inside and we wait for the food, we ordered a large mexican fries. The sauce is given separately not on the top of fries which we used to have everytime. Next we orderded the paprika seasoning(20) and chipotle seasoning wings(10), here it comes as we expected! the chipotle one they didn’t toss it well they just poured the sauce on the chicken. And the second one the paprika, what we expect! Its the same thing no seasoning at all, later we asked extra seasoning as it is soo numb with the flavour, like eating a raw chicken. So they just dumped the seasoning on it. We have been many times this place. No people ever treated like this. Thanks for the great customer service, keep smiling.

Had the burrito meal Deal on Easter sat They have a 15% surcharge which all places do. The front counter was amazing and very funny. Table delivery was on point and food was yummy as had a extra hot chicken burrito and waiter said it was hot like me cracked me up. Only down fall is out door area is a little dirty and date for such a prime location burito bar should be a flag ship to show off brand to all tourists.

Ordered a Slow Cooked Pulled Beef Burrito, which was supposed to come with pico de gallo, cheese and black beans. There was no cheese, no pico de gallo and about 5 black beans in the entire burrito. I also paid for extra guac and sour cream but the burrito was pretty much rice in a wrap for $17. Terrible!

I am absolutely in love with this place. Gorgeous margarita, vege enchilada. The presentation was on point. Service was amazing. Very affordable

Tried the soft shell chicken tacos. Ate one. Chicken was so dry. The place is as dirty as it looks. Do yourself a favour and go across the road to GYG.

I only went here because Guzman was closed across the road. Not the most exciting menu for vegetarians or vegans, I assume meat is required to make this place taste good. For the price you pay you would expect a little more flavour. Black bean and cheese Quesadilla was not toasted and too much onion, onion could also be cooked a little more. Sour cream condiment tasted more like yoghurt. Vege burrito was small and average and overall the ingredients just felt a little cheap or under prepared. Also no hot option for burritos, just a red tangy mayo for chips. The chips were okay and the lady who served me was pleasant to deal with. I may give them another shot if Guzman is ever closed again.

I have been meaning to try this place for a while and today I had the chance for a quick lunch. They are running good deals, maybe because G and G are just across the road. Anyway I had a chicken burrito, mex. fries and ginger beer for around $12.90 and it was pretty good. The chicken burrito had rice and black beans with the chicken. I say treat this place as a convenient lunch or dinner place and don't expect 5 star mex. The service was good and the food came quickly. Good value.

Am a fan of of Burrito Bar franchises, mainly because their food is simple & healthy. Nothing beats a naked burrito, plain , fast & freshly prepared with black beans, fresh red cabbage & cos lettuce. Then add to that pica de gallo with lashings of chilli. Oh & not to forget those sweet potato wedges, thick cut, cheap & cheerful & tasty
Claire
Used to come here heaps before they ended their $5 lunch burrito deal, but the last time I went I watched an employee take chicken straight from the fridge, microwave it (in a plastic container) and put it on my burrito. I'm usually happy to cover the taste of not-fresh food with some Chipotle mayo for the sake of cheap eats, but with the new prices, and after this incident, I won't go back.
Jack
Food was dry and bland of flavor and had a lot of rice and not much meat or sauce. Also a tacho was over cooked and hard. Would not eat there again in future and wouldn't recommend friends to go there either.

I've walked past Burrito Bar in South Bank literally thousands of times, but have never been tempted to venture in until I recently started seeing advertising for their $1.95 Taco Monday and $5 Lunch Burrito.

It's Monday, so I ventured down to South Bank specifically for this purpose.

I ordered two chicken tacos and a beef burrito with a Diet Coke for $12.35 (taco deal requires the purchase of a drink and is dine-in only).

The food was prepared in about 3 minutes, but was very disappointing.

The chicken tacos were flavorless and pathetically small (these are normally 2 for $9), and I know why the beef burrito was $5, because it was the same size as the kids burrito next door at Guzman y Gomez. Sadly, the rice was undercooked, the beans were too firm and the beef was virtually non-existent, not to mention the overall burrito was wet and bland.

Guzman y Gomez delivers a far superior product in every way and will continue to keep me as a regular customer. I have no intention to return to Burrito Bar South Bank.

So good! A little exxy but you get your monies worth they do big portions. And the service was excellent! It only took like 10 minutes to bring our food out and the food was awesome!

The meals are always yummy and affordable as well.
Staff are always helpful and kind.
Menu is so colourful and easy to read
I would go back again and again. 🙂

I have recently used UberEats to purchase and deliver my order from the Burrito Bar located in Southbank. When I had received my order, there was an item missing. I immediately called the store, to which I found the employee to be extremely rude and was not willing to help in any way. She explicitly said that all of the food was in the bag, which it wasn't. She also said that there was no other employee present who was able to make a decision on how to help resolve this issue. She had said that she would call her manager and then UberEats to come up with a soloution, we waited a good 40 minutes before calling back to which the employee had said "I've been too busy to call anybody". The service I have experienced with this company is not acceptable and I will not be going back.

Tried this place out a few weeks ago.
Had the chicken burrito, wings and a margarita.
Burrito was not anything flash no real flavour had to ad a lot of sauce to it, wings were dry and flavourless, margarita was good.
Service was ok.
Joseph
Absolutely yummy, burrito rolled with care and love, outstanding. Great value and good simple and easy service. I'll definitely be back! Keep up the good work

Visited on a busy Sunday however this place was very quiet. The guy who served me was very polite and helpful but a smile wouldn't have gone astray.

I ordered a pork taco salad and chipolte chicken tacos as takeaway. It was served quickly and packaged up well for takeaway. The salad bowl was the winner, yummy crispy bowl and nice filling (if not bit too much bowl to filling). The tacos had good filling but were absolutely tiny. Not worth it. You'd need at least four to make it anywhere close to a meal.

I thought it was all only ok. Definitely average Mexican but not the worst I've ever had. Very happy it was on the Entertainment Card, I'd not have been happy to pay full price.

Nice happening place. Ordered the california buritto with slow beef.. got it in 10mins. Above average taste.. Very good menu ..will defintly be back to try more items

The emptiness of this restaurant/fast food outlet should have been a sign to continue walking across the road to Guzman y Gomez, but we thought we would give this place a go.
What a disappointment! This place was terrible, terrible, terrible.
We ordered: chicken wings w/Siurracha sauce; chicken burrito; a Cajun fish taco, and a pulled port taco.
The chicken wings were fried bone dry, and then the "sauce" was drizzled on, sort of as an after thought. If it wasn't for the sauce, the chicken would have been dry AND flavorless. The tacos were dry, and tasteless! The fish one had no flavor at all! The pulled pork was soggy, and quite frankly tasted horrible. The burrito was AGAIN flavorless, and had little to no meat in it. NEVER AGAIN! The only thing that was "slightly" - and I use this term very loosely satisfying were the magharitas.

DO NOT BUY THEIR VOUCHER. Recently i bought a scoopon voucher for this place. I tried to ring for two days to book a table for Friday night but their phone line is always being disconnected. I have spoken to their customer service on Facebook and got told that they will check the phone line soon but a couple of days later its still not connected. You can see reviews from the other customers on their Facebook complaining about the phone line too. It is really bad service and the whole thing just looks like a scam from this restaurant that asking customers to book for Friday and Saturday.
Rebecca
The taco salad was pretty good and exactly what I was looking for. But the spicy chicken wings were not what I expected and ruined my overall opinion.
Brisfoodiefangirl
I only came here for a drink but the food also looked great. The staff were busy but came across really friendly, I'll have to go back and try the food at some stage.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times years ago when they first opened up and found it to be quite average. They have since had a makeover and extended their menu so I decided to give it another go. Surely they were doing something right to still be standing even after the addition of new burrito joints in the area.
Sean Christopher Bate
25c wings. I will not be dining here again and I am in no way a fussy eater yet I left over half of my wings on the plate. They were completely tasteless and very dry.
Johnny Porter
25c wings. As organic as it gets!

I am not sure why there are bad reviews. The nachos were amazing! Light & crispy, tasty and a good amount on the plate. Service was great. Recommend it!
Foodiexx
Terrible food. Barely touched it. Looks nothing like the menu. Food was cold. Sangria was just a cup of wine with juice in it. Tables were dirty. Won't be coming back

Came with a voucher for 2 people with my boyfriend. I had the crispy fish burrito and he got the ultimate Mexican. They were good. Not spectacular but still tasty and filling. The Mexican fries and the churro were so yum!! We both got a corona as well. Very nice deal!
Amy
We've eaten here once before and to be honest, I can't remember what I thought of it the first time. But I didn't complain when my husband bought their latest group deal for $25- mexe fries, two burritos, two beers and a churros! Yum. We dined last night and were really happy with the food and service. I had the Ultimate Mexican burrito (chicken + beef) and my husband had the pulled pork. Both meats deliciously soft + rice + beans etc. Most burritos around Brisbane are horrendously bland but this had a really nice flavour thanks to the tasty pico di gallo. The fries were pretty nice, came with seasoning and some mayoish dressing. The churros, served with choccy sauce and icecream, were delicious. The service was friendly and timely and we really enjoyed tasting the Mexican beers- they also have a large range of Mexican soft drinks. Great value, we will visit again.

Super unimpressed. Had to repeat my order 3 times, took ages and inevitably, came incorrect. It's nachos guys, not physics. Dirty table too. Could forgive that if they offered to wipe it down any of the times they went by.
Perhaps the music is just too loud and distorted for the staff to hear anything you say.
Jenna
Love it. Great restaurant with free wifi, down with guzman!

Worst Mexican in Brisbane. I have absolutely no idea why The Burrito Bar's in Brisbane are still open. My visit to the Southbank Burrito Bar was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The order was stuffed up twice, then the chips were given long after the rest of the food was finished with (and by that I mean left alone). The pulled pork burrito was literally so salty I couldnt eat it (and I dont have an aversion to salt whatsoever) and the chicken buritto had little of anything in it except for chicken and bland sauce. Plus they were both cold. Months later, by accident, I went to the Rosalie Burrito Bar, not realising I was going to the same chain. Once again, food was cold (but this time literally refrigerated cold) and tasteless. The mayo served with the corn tasted like it was off. So, so bad. Plus staff were rude at both locations, when ordering food I might have well have told them I believed I was a pregnant unicorn because the looks they gave me were that of being appalled and confused.
Marcus Rehlaender
TERRIBLE TERRIbLE DO NOT EAT HERE! Cold and bland, even after we asked if they could heat it up it came back cold. We are not fussy diners and never write reviews, but this place was so crap in general and a real disappointment we had to let you all know!

The Burrito Bar - South Brisbane. Beginning its sprawl from Rosalie to nearby the cinema at South Bank, the Burrito Bar has taken a logical step for where to be to get clientele. Much like the other competition around town, it is beginning to realise how much Australian residents have become accustomed to Mexican and not what is actually Tex-Mex. This should be seen as a good thing overall, the Burrito Bar is still pretty good with some setbacks.

Before seeing a movie, I went here with a friend.

As much as it has improved the concept of Mexican, it is still a fast-food version - good but it will never be the real thing. The ingredients are relatively fresh and I did not leave feeling greasey or too bloated. Commendations will be given from branching out from the tortilla-style foods and into other Mexican dishes like ribs and corn; there is also an interesting fusion in some dishes such as nacho fries. Which leads to what I had.

I tried their Torta, which is a Mexican burger. The filling I chose was chorizo. This was pretty good quality overall and was like eating a buritto in burger form. It did get a bit monotonous aside from the smokey flavour of the sausage. Along side came some fries which had a drizzle of chipotle mayonaise which was tangy and quite good.

Although it was to share, I got to try most of the beef nachos which were fantastic and a big meal on their own. It was piled high with guacamole, salsa and delicious slow-cooked beef. The chips were tortilla instead of the packaged and overtly-flavoured ones from a packet, and felt fairly light eating them.

To drink, I tried the tamarind variety of the Jarittos soda. This is a brand I actually really like, being served traditionally in a glass bottle and without the scary corn syrup. It had a slightly sour taste to it that is a far cry from the sweetness of lemonade or cola.

This place is alright to go to if in a rush before seeing a movie. It might be a default place in the future.
Pretzelinspector
Nope. The most tasteless, offensive burrito I've ever had. It was cold when first served to me. The tortilla was dry and stale. The rice was hard as pebbles.

LOVE the nacho fries. So good. The staff are lovely and the food is all good drinking food. The burritos are super filling so I normally get the quesadillas so I can fit in those goddamn amazing fries!
Krish
Love it ... really good... Lived in California and had many burritos; BB is worth to compare with real US maxicano. Very much enjoyed the best burrito I have found in Australia. Food was authentic, fresh and put together properly. Service was very good....classy look !!

Excellent food, perfect ambience and great service. Would recommend this for sure :)

I been there couple of times but now it has become one of my favourite food outlet! The food is so delicious, fresh and awesome service! Burrito Bar at south bank is the best out of all as far as I know but I would recommend you guys to try all the outlet. Trust me the food quality, ambiance of the place and staff won't let you down!

The best thing ask for the guy named Tushar! He is the man who will treat you like a king / queen ;)
Cheers

Must say, for 25c I wasn't expecting much. But I expected a lot more than I got.
Dry, small, cold wings with feathers still attached. Oversaucing the wings does not make the meat taste better, and does not sweeten the bitterness I had after waiting for these sorry excuses for wings for over 20minutes.
Further to this, I only got 6 of the 8 I paid for. However I am thankful for this. If I'd have known what I was in for, I'd have paid the $2 to usher me right back out of there and eat a packet of mi goreng.

Also, the tacos are hopeless. Soggy, disintegrating, tasteless slops of mush once they're on a plate.
Old El Paso can give me a kit to make 8 decent tacos myself for the price I paid for two of yours.

Disappointing.
Bec
Worst Mexican I've ever had. Cold, tasteless and expensive considering the portion sizes
Linda
The nacho fries were delicious! Unfortunately it is called a burrito bar and the burrito was not very good. The rice bits were dry and the garnishing was terrible (please refer to photo). Would only come back for nachos but not burritos!

Dissapointing. I was excited to find a burrito bar while traveling to Brisbane, I hadn't realised that there were any Burrito bars in Brisbane. The first sign that things weren't going to be fantastic should have been the menu - it seemed that no matter what type of burrito or taco you ordered, that the filling was the same aprt from the meat variety. Strange.
I tried the 3 soft taco option, and went for beef, chicken, and pork. I was hoping for a fish but no such luck.

Anyway, I was surprised when they arrived as the tortilla is clearly out of a packet. Thin, and manufactured, not grilled and no flavour. They were also massively over-filled, so eating them was a chore rather than being a delight. The pork was probably the pick of the bunch, but as the rest of the filling was identical, the meal was quite boring.

Don't go here. To me, Mexican isn't a cuisine which is difficult to screw up- well, at least I can rarely go wrong at home. Yet the Burrito Bar seems to have done just that. The food is mediocre and overpriced for what you get. I've been to Mexican restaurants MUCH cheaper and been able to get a mixture of fillings in my burrito. Here, the staff told me I had to choose from one of their set combinations (chicken and cheese, beans, capsicum and onion to name a few). Now, I don't know what the preferences of the general public are, but for me I enjoy a burrito packed with various flavours- not just beans! However, it's not like you just get a measly tortilla with a few refried beans- oh no! They make sure you're deceived by filling the burrito with rice (authentic Mexicana, anyone?!). Along with my burrito was a 'salad' consisting of iceberg lettuce and red cabbage no larger than 4cm diameter, and that's no exaggeration! You'd think you'd recoeve more for the inflated $17 that I reluctantly forked out! My partner ordered the quesadilla and that was considerably more depressing to look at and taste. Filled with tasty cheese and capsicum (he ordered the set filling combination of 'vege' which one would assume would be more than just capsicum!!!), this monstrosity was not even fit to serve to the most easy-to-please of patrons!! At least it came with sour cream to add some form of flavour. For $30, we left dissatisfied and sure to never return. Money would've been much better spent at Nandos across the street!!!

Truly terrible from a great start. I work in Southbank and this used to be an almost weekly treat, then mid-2012 they overhualed the menu, fired all the friendly staff and turned into the worst example of a taqueria in Brisbane.

Burritos underfilled, no small size burrito option, fresh guacamole replaced with processed, pre-packaged guac/sour cream (called "Crema"), nachos are OK but they are less than generous with toppings and chips are greasy.

Avoid at all costs, apparently a Guzman y Gomez is opening nearby soon, hold out for a much better eatery!
Nick Cheong
The food is an insult to Mexican cuisine. The iconic fresh and vibrant ingredients that Mexican food is well known for has been replaced with tomato mush, a sorry excuse for salsa and bland guacamole. I will not be going back here again. I cannot extract any pros from my experience here. Food was prepared really quickly maybe? Maybe because everything just needed to be reheated. Terrible quality of food.
Jash
Went here in the day time, the staff were sitting around a table talking, we waited a couple of minutes for someone to get up to serve us, not realising they weren't customers. We ordered nachos, the chips were greasy and semi-cold, there was just capsicum, onion and tomato in the vege option, plus cheese and a dollop of guac, all for $18.90, WTF? Had similar bad service and food at Coorparoo store but was hoping for something better here.
Lovediningout
Poor service or should I say no service, order was wrong and food was below average, won't be returning there. Worst Mexican I have ever had and I have been to a few here and New Zealand and in the U.S

Used to be good . . .. This used to be a great place for lunch on a weekday.
The food has gone completely down hill, not sure what has changed but not worth the effort.
The prices are too high and the quality too poor.
Shanrudy
Don't go here. You could get better Mexican from a food court!
Yoyalosabe
Mayo on a taco?. Suggestions:
Take the mayo off the tacos (actually remove it from everything);
Learn about what makes a good tortilla (being soft isn't enough, it needs to be fresh);
Don't serve them when they're cold; and
Drop the price ($16 for 3 tacos is ridiculous)
...and then you'd have a good product.
On the upside, the slow cooked beef filling was done well.
Ceal
I miss the old days. Ahhh Burrito Bar, what's happened? I used to adore your roasted corn salsa on my soft chicken tacos. And for that matter, where did all the other condiments go? This place used to be a must go on a weekly basis for me and mine! But after the first less tasty taco, I hesitated. Don't get me wrong, the staff are warm and friendly. But something has changed and I'm sorry - it was never broken, so why "fix" it. I'll keep poking my head in in the hopes of the return of the bright, colourful interior and funky, tasty menu, but untl then I'll stick to home I guess. PIty.
JJD
Used to really rate this place but went again recently after not being in a couple of months and was pretty disappointed. They have made a few changes which aren't really improvements in my opinion.

Walked in on thursday night straight away greeted menu's handed to us! This is new! Amazing work! Order our meals (burrito's) and drinks not long we sat and meals were on our table the girl on line was amazingly fast! Im so amazed in the new changes nice work burrito bar! Eat here everyday.

Great food !!!. Mouth watering food, tastes awesome. Service was amazing. As soon as we stepped in the restaurant we have been welcomed by the staff and we were handed a menu pad. We sat for a while, chose the items to be ordered and then went to the point of sale and ordered the items and we were given a table number. The food was on our table in no time while we were having beers. While we were eating we thought of having something sweet to end our best meal, so we ordered the items on the deserts menu. The Burritos we ordered were very delicious and the deserts were awesome, the best to end one's meal. Without even a second thought I wanna say ' I will be visiting again, not only by self but with my family and friends and will certainly tell to more food lovers especially Mexican'.
Bman
WORST FOOD EVER!!!!!. I ate he here for the first and LAST time last week. I was served by a rude. After placing my order (vegi quesadilla) the man took my money with gloved hands then continued to prepare food with out changing them. I then waited 25 mins, mind you the shop had all of 4 people in it, one of whom went behind the counter processed there own order(approx 10 mins after I ordered), I assumed this was the owner, who got there food 5 mins after this, where Myself the paying customer waited a further 10mins. Finally my food arrived and I was unimpressed to say the least. My vegi option consisted only of green capsicum and cheese... Really capsicum and cheese
Micgael
Bad bad bad!! Didn't get a chance to taste the food as they were out of almost everything! Only to be told 20 minutes after I ordered. Poor service, get some new staff!
Jack Jensen
We waited 25 minutes only to be told they were out of beef! Beef! We were catching a movie too so it really screwed our whole night. The supervisor blamed new staff but she clearly can't have been doing that much supervision if she didn't realize they were out of a main ingredient. Will never go back.

Nothing out of this world. Bad service, average food and ugly place. Why would I waste my money here when G&G is just across the river? I'm never coming back.

Good NEWS!! New Management has taken the Soutbank Burrito Bar. This is my second visit to Burrito Bar, my past experience was really bad when I visited 6 months back, the tables are not clean, the quality of the food is not good and the serving by staff is worse. As I am fond of Mexican food it made me to visit again in spite of my bad experience, this time I am SURPRISED!! And DELIGHTED!!!
The Quality of the food is good and YUMMYY and the staff were so pleasing. When I enquired the Management has changed and the New Management is really doing well. Keep up guys!!!!

Best food i ever had. True meaning of mexican cusine. Price was cheap and food was fresh and delicious. Yummmmm.....
New management is doing lot of changes and very efficient staff
Keep up guys you are doing a great job.

Yummy Sauces. Would recommend the Burrito Bar for those who want to taste some authentic Mexican salas. Chipotle sauce was deliciously hot while the tomitilo sauce was nice and sweet. Great place to take the kids with the food coming out quickly and the staff more than happy to accomodate their requests. Just a shame they use flour instead of corn tortillas.
Orange Blossom Special
Not authentic Mexican, but not horrible. The Burrito Bar is located a couple of doors away from the Southbank Cinemas making this a great spot to have a fairly fast, inexpensive and filling meal. In that this is fast food, there is no way that this is truly authentic Mexican cuisine, but that doesn't mean what you get is bad. I was impressed by the size and the amount of ingredients in the dishes we ordered.

Arriving at The Burrito Bar on a Wednesday (April 11) evening around 7pm, we found the place was packed! Only a few tables left and still quite a line up, my partner went to order for us while I held the last table inside.

I ordered the Nacho Fries and in that I could choose the type of meat from pork chicken, mince beef or steak, I had the steak ($11.90). My partner ordered the large Mariachi Burrito ($11.90) and joked that it would be a Mariachi band bringing it out. (I hoped not!)

When this venue is filled to capacity, we found it quite loud, but it was of a happy, boisterous nature coming from a certain age group that were definitely there to see a movie, so it didn't really bother us.

My meal showed up first along with someone else's meal, which eventually found its home and a few moments later, my partner's arrived. The size of my nacho fries was quite large! Lots of chips topped with a lot of cheese! The steak was plentiful in it (complete with one piece of pork in it) and jalapeños with a big kick to them - not for the faint of heart! I like spicy foods and this was quite hot!

The large Mariachi burrito contained pork, rice, black beans, hot tomatillo sauce, pico de gallo, lettuce and guacamole… This burrito was huge! Generous amount of pork mixed with all of the other ingredients made each bite a great combination of Mexican flavours.

One taste I did notice with my meal was that the meat was precooked. Not to say it wasn't fresh, but it had that distinct taste to me that it had been sitting in the fridge. I don't believe that it had been cooked on the spot and served immediately afterwards. It wasn't bad, but you do get what you pay for.

We noticed that The Burrito Bar has Taco Tuesdays: 2/$6 (regularly $4 each) all day. My partner and I agreed that this would be something we'd come back for! This by no means is a gourmet restaurant, but it isn't bad value. It is worth checking out for the price and size of the meals, but don't be disappointed when you realize it's not authentic.

One does not have to call oneself a Mexican food connoisseur to realize that this place is absolute crap. The food served to us was half cooked, cold and completely bland. Bland is not a word that should ever be associated with Mexican food and yet here it was, lacking even the taste of salt to some extent. Instead of spending my money here, I wish I had just bought Doritos, some cheese and dip and made my own nachos. Never going to this place again.
Megan
Long wait, bad service, poor food practices. I ate here on Saturday 13 February for the first and last time. We waited over half an hour for our food to be prepared (2 burritos and chips). As we were waiting, I saw a staff member spill about a quarter of another customer's chips on to the table as she was setting the plate down. The staff member just said sorry and walked off (she didn't offer to replace the chips that were spilt). I also saw a staff member scrape the ingredients off a half-prepared burrito and start again using the same tortilla wrap (which is worrying if he accidentally put meat/pork on someone's tortilla!). The tables were pretty dirty and the counter where they prepare the food seemed pretty chaotic, staff don't seem to know what they were doing at times. When our food finally arrived, it was soggy and not very tasty. I will never eat here again.
Hungry Hippo
The food is expensive for its quality. Very plain. Will not come back again.
Kate Hall
Nothing special but not bad for an inexpensive quick meal. Staff were generally attentive but noticed tables took a long time to be cleared and even then had little scraps of food left all over the place. Feels a bit seedy but it's okay for what it's trying to be

BY FAR WORST MEXICAN FOOD I'VE EATEN. This place is an embrassement compared to all the other delicous mexican restaurants out there.

I went there a few weeks ago with my friend, it was the only place we could eat because we hadnt book anywhere else.

It was sooo over priced and the food was disgusting. I was sick all Saturday night infact. The burrito came out wraped in foil so it was soggy and it wasnt authenic mexican. One of the staff members seemed nice enough but the lady who served us who rude as. I would not eat here again!!!

I randomly tried the Burrito Bar on Saturday night for a late night burrito and I was pleasantly surprised
Service was very friendly and even though they were quite busy my burrito came out pretty quick.
it's nothing fancy just a cool, cheap and simple mexican place which I will probably be back with friends.

Awesome mexican. Found the rosalie store last week and they told me about southbank so went there today before a movie
had a taco salad this time and it was awesome again the salsa was the hero.
well done and the service was much friendlier.

Variations on the same thing: Boring. So, The Burrito Bar. Surely an ethnic eatery would *never* rely on hipster appeal in lieu of flavor and service?

Wait, no, it would.

Waiting for a server to acknowledge my existence or tell me I was standing in the wrong place (Given that the only waiting area for ordering is directly in the path of servers leaving the kitchen) I noticed how, with the exception of a few dishes, everything on the menu looked the same.

The menu also suffers from being "Cute". The names are things like "Mariachi" and "Baja". That's great and all, but now I have to read all the descriptions (or lists of ingredients, which is irritating even in Silver Service restaurants) to figure out what things are and if I want them.

And even then, who's to know what "Have them tasty, or hot and tasty!" means in the context of "Better then French fries, they're Mexican fries." Do you mean Tasty cheese? (Emulsified Milk Product is authentically Mexican?) Adobe ketchup? Potatoes from South America?

Once you've figured out what you want, been looked blankly at by the server, and ordered, you can go find a table to sit at. Let's talk about that. I'll keep this short though: Stop using twee folded metal chairs in restaurants. I'm not five and you likely paid $100 for them at a 'retro' store. I don't care if your core market is beret wearing "ironic" meat-eating graphic designers. They're uncomfortable, cold and ugly.

Food isn't really worth dissing or discussing. The Elote, seasoned grilled corn, tasted like... mealy corn. The Day of the Dead Nachos tasted like the halfarsed meat/cheese/salsa glop you find in any lazy cafeteria. I won't be trying anything else... There's simply no reason to return.

Awful. The staff were unfriendly. Two of our burritos were completely different to what we had ordered - wrong fillings and wrong sizes - and when we finally got the right ones they were bland and pretty sloppy. Definitely overpriced and not worth a return visit.

Always great!. Southbank has a number of good quality restaurants, and a lot of poor quality fast food rubbish. Thankfully, Burrito Bar bridges the gap and provides a high level of fast-food in an environment that encourages you to sit down, eat, and stay a little longer.

The staff are always friendly, the food is always fantastic. The pricing is great with specials almost every day of the week.

The Burrito Bar have embraced Social Media and have great interaction with their followers on a variety of platforms!

Nice place to have lunch and dinner!!!! lots of color, fun and great food:-)

Missed Opportunity. Making it a mission to try every Mexi joint in Brisbane, I popped in to The Burrito Bar to sample "the goods". However, my experience was not good.

My order was taken quite promptly but I then spent 20 minutes watching the shemozzle behind the counter while several other take-away orders came and went.

The staff seem to have no procedures in place and no one appeared to be on top of what needed to be prepared, what had gone out and which customers were waiting. The food prep area was a mess. The staff were all squinting at a terribly-positioned screen with the order details listed, asking each other questions. It was as though they were all on their first shift.

When I mentioned to the staff that my order had appeared to have been forgotten they assured me that they had just gone through "a big rush" and that my meal was not far away (as though I had not been standing there watching the total lack of big rush). I then watched them prepare it from scratch in front of me.

The food, when it finally arrived, was OK; certainly not worth the wait and lack of service.

This place needs a really good manager to get in there and whip things into shape. It's in a good spot and has heaps of potential but is sadly lacking at the moment.

Pleasantly Surprised.... I must admit, my family and I were acting on an impulse here... never heard of this place, but would certainly come back. Affordable, quick and delicious.

Mexican Quick Fix. A nice quick fix before the movie next door. Went to try their $2 Taco lunch special, for that price, it is reasonably good and tasty, quite fast as well.

Disgusting. I made an account on urbanspoon just to talk about how utterly disgraceful this place is. The service was poor and disorganised. I ordered tacos and was not asked if I wanted soft or hard nor was I asked if I wanted beef or chicken on it. Ended up with a feral mess of a soft chicken burrito that had no flavor and had the consistency of mush. Will never return. If you plan on giving it a go, lower your expectations tenfold.

Poor food quality, not appetizing and definitely not worth your money.

Never Again. This is the worst Mexican place in Brisbane in my opinion. The beef burrito was full of overcooked rice and no flavour. A microscope was required to see how much beef was actually in the burrito - they might as well call it a vegetable burrito.
Customer service was very slow and the girl serving us was a bit challenged to say the least.
Bad experience - would not recommend this place to anyone.
Borat-tini Anyone
If the service continues to be this bad the burrito bar will go out of business on this point alone! Our meals took over 30 minutes to make, they tried to make amends by offering chips and dip, I just wanted my nachos!!! Overall food quality was good and the price was reasonable. 2.5stars

Great Concept, Very Poor Execution, and Extremely Inconsistent. There's no standard at this place whatsoever. We've been to this place three times cause it's close to where we work and live. The first time was a weekday and we were the only customer walked into the shop. We'd waited for our food for 30 mins before a staff came up to us and asked if we're waiting for something. She apologised and came back with the food couple of mins later along with a complimentary fries. The food has some good flavours and the portion was very generous. That's the reason why I came back the next day for a takeaway. However, the staff that took the order that day, quite obviously, didn't know the menu at all, struggling to put the order through. When I got home, just realised that I didn't get what I ordered. Still wanted to give them a chance cause anyone can make a mistake. Went back for the third time the next day also for a takeaway. The food I got was literally half the size of what I got for the last couple of days. They fixed it by changing the container for the food, so that I can't compare whether it's more or less than it usually is. And when I got home, I found few ingredients missing and it was inadequate.
In short, Poor Service, Bad Staffs, and EXTREMELY INCONSISTENT. If you feel like Mexican food, make it somewhere else.

Really Good. The service was OK and the food was great. I've been in there a few times since they've opened and it just keeps getting better. The double decker tacos are a particular highlight!

Cold. Since i saw the sign go up for mexican Ive wanted to try this place finally on sunday we went there with friends. Staff ok and polite food a major disapointment 2 of us finished our meals long before the other 2 meals turned up I had the burrito cold and not a lot in it we all said how diasapointed we were. The table next to us took there meal back inside and complained they came out with a differant meal tried it got up and left it all. We wont be going back AVOID this place.

Poor, inadequate. The most complimentary terms that come to mind. Intact bad even by Brisbane's low standards. Nothing, a part from the imported Mexican beer and names of the dishes even came close to even bad Mexican food. I really struggle to say more than 1.57 out of 7.77 Suggest you go hungry

Sort of missing the point of big burritos. Expensive for a small burrito and just not very fresh.
Karmen-Ashleigh Russell
Mediocre. We went to this place lateish on a Thursday wanting some tasty burritos, it was pretty quite and the service was efficient but the burritos lacked so much flavour. We both ordered the Cancun chicken burrito, but one large and one small, as mentioned by others there is barely any size difference in them! It was supposed to have guacamole and sour cream and cheese but I couldn't pick up any of those flavours and the meat was really bland as well. Way more flavour in something I could make at home and save my $30! I'd say you're much better off going to a place like Salsa's at Mt Gravatt for tastier fast mexican.

So So At Best. Dined at The Burrito Bar - Southbank before going to see a movie. The look of the place is great and has a bit of a authentic mexican feel to it. But the stainless steel tables and chairs were definately a bad idea, very very cold in winter.

Ordered the food, trying one of the steak burrito's and some chips to share. My friends ordered the Nacho's and Quesadilla's.

The Burrito was pretty ordinary with hardly any flavour, incredibly chewy meat and was pretty small for a large Burrito. The Nacho's were ok, but once again not much flavour. The Quesadilla's were definatley the pick of the bunch, but not good enough to write home about.

The service was average, they stuffed up my order but replaced it straight away. But unfortunately the team loses my vote with our food all coming out at different times. Big no no in my books, especially when it is not the most competitively priced Mexican restaurant in town.

All in all I probably will go back as everyone deserves a second chance. But I am definatley not looking forward to it....

Questionable. I popped down during their opening week and the food was terrible and the staff were really struggling. Yes the business was in its infancy but I would expect better, it is a business after all.

I gave them another go about a month later and there were improvements in taste but I'd still pick elsewhere for fast food in South Bank.

My biggest gripe on the second visit was that I ordered a small burrito and my friend a large and despite the $3 price difference, there appeared to be no difference in size.

I'll try them again once more after they've been opened a few more months. If they haven't pulled it together by then though that will be it for me.

It's know Guz, man!. I was hoping for Guzman standard burritos, but things just didn't quite measure up. Similar prices (i.e. questionable) but just not as good as the competition in terms of flavor and quality. The location will keep these guys in business, but If you're real keen on a Mexican fix look elsewhere first.

AVOID. This place is bad eggs. The food is over priced. My large 15 dollar burrito wasn't large. The filling was all rice and beans, I asked for cheese and didn't find any in it. Ended up leaving half the pile of slop on the plate. Brisbane's Mexican scene is booming, but these guys aren't.

Excellent service. I had a wonderful experience here today; both the food and service were great. There seems to be a lot of mexican places opening up recently and I must say The Burrito Bar might be my favourite. The chicken and guacamole on my burrito were so fresh and tasty, and it went down very well with a mexican beer that I tried which wasn't a corona! The service was excellent as well - the whole time I was served with a very friendly smile. Will be back for more.

Service was great and the food was okay. Could have been hotter.

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!. My fiancee and I were so disappointed with this place tonight. I had a craving for a burrito and so we went to The Burrito Bar. After waiting for 15 minutes in the line (as they were understaffed), we were finally served. The guy that served us was rude and incompetent. We requested 2 vegetarian burritos and he were extremely abruptly told by the staff member "we can only make you one, we've run out" and stared at us blankly. No apology, no reason, nothing. I asked if we could wait while they made more vegetables and he said it would be 10 minutes. After already waiting 15 minutes to order we weren't overly excited about this but told him that it was cool, we would wait.
I advised him that we were vegan and asked that he doesn't put any dairy, egg or meat products on our burrito. He assured us that this was fine.
While he was preparing our ONE burrito, another staff member came over with a big bowl of chicken and extremely messily poured it into the container.....clearly it also went into the rice because when the rice was put on our burrito it had a big chunk of chicken in it!!! The guy didn't even care/notice and I had to ask him if that was chicken. He said "yeah it is". We didn't end up eating here.
Terrible attitude, terrible service, terrible place. So disappointed!

Disappointing. I've been to a handful of Mexican places here in Australia, and this is by far the worst of them. The black beans to go on the burritos were so undercooked that they were crunchy!

They did have Jarritos though, which is good, and the guacamole was competently done. Overall, totally underwhelming and overpriced. I feel sorry for the Australians who go to this place and leave thinking that this is what Mexican food is like.

If you love authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex food (Nachos is Tex-Mex people), then you will LOVE this place! I love good Mexican food. Problem is it's hard to find, especially when Tex-Mex restaurants promote themselves as Mexican because they assume that Aussies either won't notice, or don't know any better. The Burrito Bar is NOT one of those places! The place has a new Manager as of two weeks ago and this is a woman that knows and LOVES Mexican food. They call Pico, Pico (not Salsa, which is different)! I'm really sorry to see all the bad reviews on this site and can only chalk it up to the previous management being totally crap. Please give this place a fresh chance, I strongly believe that you won't be disappointed. I've Been here twice in two days, all the staff have been friendly, full of energy and have gone out of their way to make me feel special. They even made me a gluten-free Flautas especially for me while I was here. Now that's love, and that's customer service that was worth me signing up to foodie websites so that I can share what a wonderful experience I've had here.

Awesome food, last night me and my wife went to watch a movie at cineplex, before movie we had dinner at Burrito Bar, loved it. I am going back there next week.

Tried this place on the weekend because the line at Grilled next door was too big. What a mistake that was! the burrito was disgusting(burnt chicken) and cold inside. My friends Nachos were even worse the corn chips were burnt and the topping looked like vomit. We did'nt bother complaining as the staff looked like they did'nt want to be there and lined up next door to get a burger.

Wanted to check out Urbanspoon to see if my experience was an isolated one? After reading the reviews i came to the conclusion that all the positive reviews sounded the same, Eg- the Nachos are always 'Yummo' , 'Can't wait till they get their liquor license' and that the 'Wall art is so amazing'. It's obvious that management writes all the positive reviews- how lame!
Considering all the good new Mexican restaurants around lately i would'nt waste my money on this one. I wish i could have read the real reviews before wasting my money on this Burrito Bar-fff

AWEFUL EXPERIENCE. Staff lacked experience and did not give the attitude that they wanted to be there. The food was basic and not of a high quality compared to other mexican places in Brissy. What topped it off was the waitress ate out of the hotbox using her hands! Disgusting! I would not eat here if I were you. I wish I hadn't.

Poorly Executed Knockoff. This is an obvious knockoff of other better executed fresh Mexican concepts. There's no soul - no love here. Note that all positive comments come from fakes who have only reviewed other places management is involved with.

Another try hard Mexican wannabe, this by far the worst burrito I've had in a long time, pork was like off baby food. Tacos were Old El Paso quality but they forgot to crisp up the shells in the oven. Chicken was burnt till was beyond dead. All the positive reviews are management! What a bunch of losers! Save your money and try one of the decent ones in the valley where food is better and way cheaper.
