Review Mr Mista - Brisbane

Corinne Brown (Corinne)
Delicious food & cocktails, friendly staff, and funky atmosphere. Cannot fault the amazing banquet we had. Food was fast and super tasty. The cocktails were fun with interesting combinations. Highly recommend :)

We went their for my bday dinner. We got one bottle of Champagne which was so nice and they treated us really nice. Especially one staff kept checking our table. I felt really nice! I will go back really soon! We got various cocktails which were all nice. There was watermelon tasty cocktail that was so sweet and good for someone who doesn’t like alcohol taste. All food was kinda fusion dishes. It looks like Asian originated but also some western style. I highly recommend this restaurant. Staff were so nice! I love them. I ordered dessert and they put happy birthday on my plate. It was impressive! Highly recommend! Thank you Tracey!🙂

We recently had a function at Mr Mista. I could not recommend this venue enough. The function coordinator was so friendly and helpful. She made everything very easy for me and was very prompt at getting back to my queries. All of our guests have been telling us how delicious the food was and how beautiful and fresh the cocktails were. The staff were also very attentive. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Just had an amazing night here! Due to floods etc it was just us for a while. We were welcomed with open arms and not rushed through our meal at all. The service was impeccable, the food absolutely amazing with real authentic flavours, the dessert cocktail "Whoopi Goldberg" was perfect to finish dinner and the decor is beautiful. It's my new favourite place. Thank you for an awesome experience!

Invited my husband to the Valentine’s Day experienced, and despite arriving earlier got our food 1 hour and 45 minutes later. The food was great and the drinks as well but the service not so much. I thought the forgot about us. I acknowledge that the hospitality industry is having a very hard time at the moment with Covid, staff shortages and so on, however we saw other people who arrived later than us being served. Don’t recommend and won’t be back.

Food was outstanding (highly recommend the butter chicken and the bao buns), drinks were top notch. Ambience 10/10, and the service was notably excellent- from the professional and attentive server, to the friendly bartender Mike who whipped up some mean drinks with superb efficiency. Will definitely be back.

Best Asian fusion food in Brisbane! We made a last minute booking for 13 and the team at Mr Mista were very quick to accommodate us! Some of the best cocktails in the fortitude valley with an amazing vibe! Highly recommend the banquet and trying as many cocktails as you can! Thanks to the team for a great experience 💃🏼

We had a fantastic evening, the banquet menu was recommended and did not disappoint, with great flavours and the curry was amazing. The service from the bar staff and wait staff was spot on. We recommend this place if you’re in the valley, and clearly a great night venue after 10pm!

The manager on duty, Mark, was super accommodating was amazing! So accommodating and lovely. From when we were met at the door, to when we left, we were treated with kindness and respect. We felt like part of a family and like we were having a unique experience! Definitely will dine again.

I am really sad to say that Mr Mista really missed the mark for dinner, as the waitress was the loveliest and most attentive individual. The service here was amazing and the venue is nice and clean! This is definitely a nice bar spot with great ambience for post work drinks. Thus my review will only reflect the food, which unfortunately was subpar.<br/><br/>We started off with the Karaage Chicken Bao as entree for 7, priced at $8 each they’re a little steep, but the chicken is well fried, piping out and not oily at all. The bao itself is very simple with just some sauce and little else, however it was tasty enough (though we agreed that the price wasn’t really justified as they are tiny). 6/10.<br/><br/>Next, we had a share plate of Kung Pao Pork Ribs which I believe was $28. Serving size was adequate for our table of 7, the meat itself was succulent and soft, falling off the bone. I would suggest just picking it up with your hands rather than trying with a fork as the ribs are rather long. The problem we had with it was that the sauce was too.... simple. The only flavour combination was disappointingly ‘very salty’ + ‘very sweet’, it wasn’t seasoned at all. They may have quite literally just mixed soy sauce, sugar and some starch to thicken it as that’s all it tasted like. I thought this was a real shame as the meat itself is cooked well, however the sauce let it down tremendously (it is akin to the feeling one has upon seeing gorgeous models dressed in the most bizarre, read ‘ugly’, outfits on the runway- so jarring that that’s all you can focus on, which in this case is like the unseasoned sauce of the pork ribs). A hard 4/10 as 4 out of 7 at the table had a polite bite before ceasing further eating of this dish. <br/><br/>Next, we had the Penang Curry (the vegetarian friendly option of it) and Smoked Massaman Curry. These were quite shocking. The chefs need to please relax on the salt. All of us are of various Asian descent and are no strangers to seasoning and salt but this was... very salty. Even copious rice did not suffice in masking the pure saltiness of these curries. The massaman was ok, nothing to write home about. If you’re the type to have given massaman a chance at various restaurants then you’ll understand- this falls into that category of ‘bland massaman’. The true offence was the Penang Curry. This was almost inedible as 70% of our dish was the driest, toughest, oldest and horrid snake beans I’ve ever had in my life. The zucchini, bamboo shoots and young corn in the Penang Curry were delicious, no faults. However they made up like 15% of the $28 bowl of curry. You may as well have renamed this ‘Snake Beans Drizzled in Penang Curry’. But even then, if the snake beans had been edible, this wouldn’t have been an issue- greens are delicious, I like my vegetables. However, no one will be impressed at being served horrible quality vegetables- something that the business would have most definitely seen before they were cooked but still consciously made the decision to place it into a dish. They were CERTAINLY not restaurant quality. For reference, it is as if you bought some stalks of asparagus, forgot about them for a week until they have shrivelled to the point of growing severe wrinkles, however you decide to cook them (unshaved, dried as a pickle and all that) anyways- only to find that after 10 chews, the asparagus are too fibrous to actually be chewed through, so you spit out balls of plant fibre. I didn’t know this was possible in snake beans until I had them in this curry today. Yes all 7 of us stared at each other as we chewed... and chewed.. and chewed... until we had to politely cough the fibrous balls out onto the serviettes. Had they been left out of the dish and not used as the obvious cost effective filler, the Penang Curry might have been a 7/10 and not a straight 1/10, as the other vegetables were really soft and delicious! Massaman Curry was a 5/10 btw, it’s for sure a safer option if you’re seated and reading this at Mr Mista for a group function and want a safe option for food. <br/><br/>Our last main was the Crispy Pork Belly, at the recommendation of our lovely waiter. Unfortunately it tasted more like ‘Leathery’ Pork Belly. Once again 0/10 seasoning, no hints of five spice, star aniseed or any aromatics. Not quite sure how they managed to turn 5 slices of pork that may have once been succulent into dry hard leather. Hard pass. 3/10.<br/><br/>Ok guys this may have seemed a bit harsh but I really don’t fault at all the service here. The waitress is maybe the best waitress I’ve ever come across in service, she’s a real gem. Also she was the only one on the floor running the whole game, there were 2 chefs in the kitchen on the Sunday night and like one dj on his stand. I’ve heard from my friends that the drinks here are really really good, she recommended the Mango Cocktail. Unfortunately I didn’t drink tonight but I would come back after 10pm for drinks on other weekends since the bar is highly rated! Also the venue itself is gorgeous so if you’re not coming for dinner then I think it’s a wonderful establishment! <br/><br/>I’m sorry to the restaurant owners if you see this and find it harsh, I wanted to convey exactly what was wrong with every dish in the hopes that perhaps improvements will be made.

The place was better than i imagined. <br/>Cute aesthetic pics can be taken if you use another phone for flash - during dinner time lights get dimmed for the ambience 😍 <br/>The staffs that looked after our table tolerated our bachelorette night vibes so thank you!! <br/>The owner and their staff were super accommodating to our needs and I couldn’t thank them enough. <br/>BEST MUSIC. Think JT, old school RNB and some current pop. <br/>Would come back 100%<br/>

Had a booking last night, we were walked directly to our table and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. We decided on the banquet as it’s always easier in a group situation. The meal was amazing, you could tell the spring rolls were fresh, the fish amazing, the bao was massive and the massaman curry amazing topped off with desert and plenty of drinks. The venue then changes more into a club atmosphere where you can’t help but dance, had the best time, will be back for more

Unfortunately will not be returning! From the start the experience was a let down. The doorman who was also the usher to the tables was rude and not at all welcoming. We had booked a table and waited for a further 30 minutes before being seated to which we had to initiate our table status and it was only then that we were seated. <br/>If the food was great I may have swallowed the negativity on the customer service however the food failed to deliver anything close to “good”. For how overpriced it was; I expected a lot more. The spring rolls were dry and could have made them at home on a Thursday night (mine would be better). Gyoza’s were very average and the Bao Bun is even more depressing. The fried rice was ok however there was no dimension and it was quite bland. The only saving grace was the pork belly which was very tender and had crispy crackling.<br/>Overall this was a terrible experience - you’d be better off getting a slice of pizza from around the corner.

Disappointing first experience. I had booked a table and we weren’t seated until 30 minutes after our booking. The staff were rude and inconsiderate and unfortunately the food was below average. The pork belly was good but everything else was overpriced and underwhelming.

Amazing venue and ambience, really fun space. The food did not disappoint, best bao in brissy! Cocktails were delicious, my partner was frothing brad pitt, what's new haha. Nightlife was amazing when it switched over after 10pm, such a good night.

Went for lunch and it was quite overpriced and staff did nothing but tried to upsell. $7 for a one bite Bahn mi wasn’t worth for sure. Could have bought a massive one for $9 at Bahn mi time. Main course pork was good and met expectations. The decor in the restaurant was nice and clean.

Good looking venue - stylish. Menu has a lot to offer - I shared several entrees - all so nice I wanted more - then the main, Tomahawk Steak (shared) was cooked perfectly. Very nice house Chips. Dessert - Chef inspired Donuts will have me reordering the same meal from start to finish again.
