Arriving at Manly on Father's Day at 12.30pm, it is bustling with people and cars. All restaurants and takeaway cafes are doing a roaring trade. Unable to find a park I drive towards Lota where there is a large park for picnickers next to the sea. I manage to find a parking space 100m from Bart's Place. I see a long queue spilling out of the Fish & Chips store so I suggest to my Mum and Phuong Tran that we have a walk along the seashore.
Finding a shady area under a big Eucalyptus tree the ladies prepare our picnic spot and I walk into Bart's at 1pm. The dining area is fully occupied with diners and at the counter there are 2 customers ahead of me. Soon, I am placing my lunch order of 8 Whiting (butterfly) pieces, 6 Sea Scallops, 3 crumbed oysters and beer battered chips totalling $46.00.
Thirty minutes later, my order is ready and I sprint back to the two HANGRY ladies! Copping an earful about the long wait, photos are quickly taken and then golden silence while we all enjoy our picnic lunch. The whiting fillets are overfried and a little dry (3.5/5.0). The large imported sea scallops were juicy and tasty (4.5/5.0). The battered oysters tasted fresh and are nicely fried (4.0/5.0). The chips are good too. Overall an enjoyable picnic lunch on a very busy day for the kitchen.
Thank you guys!
Great location for a Fish & Chip cafe. We had Coffin Bay Oysters , Moreton Bay Bugs and Prawns accompanied by a salad . Good spot for a lunch.
I've always found the food in here to be consistently good to very good. It's a little expensive but we do live in a world of "you get what you pay for". Service is usually pretty good but the owners do come across as a little arrogant and that could put some people off. However ill definitely be back.
