Yuan Bao Taiwanese Cuisine Restaurant

love having lunch here for the cheaper price lunch set, always going for the Taiwanese stewed beef noodle soup. loving the chewiness (rather than too soft) of the noodles, and the beef is soft enough and soaked with the soup flavor.

I went here for lunch with all the Asian baby mamas at work, we had originally planned to go to Plum Street but they were shut down to personal issues. It's in Pinelands shopping centre, so decent parking all around.

We all got cheap lunch boxes! They were a surprisingly massive serve of rice, veggies and protein, barring one girl who got noodles. Linda got the braised pork belly with mustard greens, soy braised egg, a weird tofu square, choi sum and rice. She also got some wintermelon tea as well. The pork belly pieces were super long! I normally cut mine up into an inch by inch cube so I was surprised to see these long finger like pieces. They were braised really tenderly, had a nice colour and there was a nice amount of fat. I love braised pork belly fat! The weird tofu square was included in all the meals, it just had an odd texture?

I got this deep fried popcorn chicken, soy braised egg, weird tofu square, pickles, choi sum and rice. I got iced lemon tea with my meal. I really like Taiwanese style popcorn chicken since their chicken is so crumbed crunchy with a generous salt and pepper coating and the zing of deep fried basil too! This was quite a lot of chicken so I had trouble finishing it. I had just recently gotten my braces changed so I was struggling with my choi sum so I was enviously watching the seven and eight month old babies around me having no trouble with it. I love soy sauce braised eggs by the way, these ones had no iron ring of doom and the soy sauce had soaked into the egg white quite a bit!

Christine got the deep fried chicken cutlet with Taiwanese sausage, soy sauce egg, tofu square, choi sum and rice. She barely got to eat this while it was hot cause her baby was fussy. She said she enjoyed it however.

Hanna got the deep fried pork cutlet with funny prawn fried cake? Soy sauce egg as well, choi sum, pickles and rice. I ate her pickles since she doesn't like them.

Lastly Michelle got these braised spicy beef noodles, they were generously saucey with tender pieces of beef, dangerous chunks of chilli, long wheat noodles and more choi sum! She picked out all the chili since she can't handle this but said she loved this dish and you could tell! Her food came out almost 30 minutes later but she finished eating it faster than I did with my meal! Slurpy, saucy perfection by her reckoning.

Pretty good place! I'd happily go back there again for dinner if I could ever get a table. Every time I go to dinner, this place is absolutely packed with tons of families. The food here is generous and cheap, every meal pictured plus a drink was about $12-16!

I enjoy going here for lunch for sets that they do - decent Taiwanese food, perhaps less oily than the nearby Yang's Cuisine, I would say. Serving sizes appear small for the lunch sets but I actually get pretty full by the end of it... So all is not as it appears... 

Would definitely recommend, even if service can be a bit slow sometimes when the place is only 1/3 full.

Weekend girls night out, a couple of friends and I wanted to check out something new, since one of our companions had never tried out Taiwanese food before, we thought it a nice opportunity to introduce her to one of my favourite cuisines. Thus we decided to head to Yuan Bao at Pinelands Sunnybank Hills.

My Taiwanese friend brought us to this place, mentioning it's a traditional one. The venue was comfortable and clean. Staff were customer-focussed. Service was fast and efficient. We managed to order 6 dishes:
1. Ma Po Tofu-the best we had ever had so far
2. Stir fried Gailan-bland and a little over cooked
3. Chicken Soup with bitter gourd and pineapple - the soup was tasty but would have more flavour if cooked longer until the chicken was tender and the bitter melons were softened
4. Drunken chicken - nice chilli flavour with great aroma of garlic, ginger and sweet basil
5. Salt and garlic fried prawns - good size prawns and perfectly cooked but not much flavour
6. Taiwan style braised pork knuckle - everyone but not me loved it since I wasn't a fan of skin and fatty meat

Gosh so much food and fun. Great companies made dinner tastier!
