Review Aroma Cafe - Brisbane

Princess Real
I believe this is my favourite place to eat at Garden Point campus. I dislike most of the places to eat at this campus but Aroma cafe is not one of them. I like their menu and i think it is specially good for having a coffee while having breakfast. I had a small cold chocolate drink with lactose free milk to an okay price. The drink was nothing special but i was satisfied with it. I had one of the sanwiches they offer and they were quite good. One of the things i didnt like at the establishment, even if it looks very nice, is that there is always a bin chicken walking around everytime i go. They sometimes get on the tables. But that applies to most places to eat in GP campus.

I used to love coming to Aromas but lately I have been disappointed at every visit. I find it very frustrating when even after being asked if I was eating in, I was still served with plastic cups and cardboard containers. This is very wasteful and almost seems lazy, like they do not want to do washing up. Prices are still good but food quality is lacking, I had the mushroom and sage pasta and it was completely flavourless. I hope the standard picks back up.

Only decent place to eat at QUT. Meals not always filling enough so have to order more and pay more. Responsive staff but not always genuine in interactions, can tell by tone of voice but they try and seem polite. Generally good. Very high food quality, chef sometimes personally brings out food

Nice environment and makes a beautiful cappuccino. Prices are not bad for the city, you can buy a wrap for $4 and very EFTPOS friendly! Very high quality experience I would recommend. Out of all the shops on campus, this is my new favourite.

Quite disappointed today. I ordered a pastry that said gluten free on the label. After ordering i got an allergic reaction and asked if it was gluten free by which I was told they put the wrong label on it. Its not really good enough. Allergies are not to be taken lightly

Waited half an hour for a salad out of the cabinet and a wage burger to find they lost the order. Note cafe has no stock - no steak sandwiches, no bottle juices. Needs new management

Amazing service, with great coffee making skills, price is reasonable for the fresh food you get. as well the have fresh juice where you can choose your ingredients.

Awesome place to get breakfast in the morning. I enjoy my morning chat's with the staff and always ask what food they recommend. Love the toasted Banana bread with butter and a cappuccino.

Had their aromas breakfast. I thought it was weird they charged extra for caramel syrup for caramel latte. Coffee was reallllly average and bitter, I didn't even finish it. Funny considering they're located at a uni, where students would rely on their coffee. Breakfast was nothing special, they were generous with the chorizos though ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Came here for early morning hot breakfast. Tables outside were dirty.ย Had to get up twice to find sugar satchets and salt and pepper! Why have waitstaff deliver coffee/food only to have customer get up and go into shop to collect what could have already been on the table? Come on Aroma. Get your act together.

Bitter and burnt coffee. Will not come back.

I visited this cafe on Saturday before lunch and ordered a one-half long black for myself and a flat white for my coffee buddy. It was a long wait (>10 min) before we actually got our order. My long black was still too watery despite being one-half. Also the drink hot was too hot. The body was light and fruity, but the aftertaste of burnt beans was very obvious and unpleasant. My friend's flat white was the same and he could even tasted the char taste.

Had a nice lunch at Aroma Cafe today despite them being super busy. I had a combination of salads from the cabinet: rice, pasta and quinoa. Despite each one being based on a grain/carb, the salads weren't heavy as they included plenty of vegetables and leaves as well. The staff were attentive and service was good considering how busy they were. It is also a lovely environment overlooking the kidney lawn at QUT.

Best on campus!. I am a regular here and have always had the best service. Frank is my favourite! Thanks so much for giving me the best start to my day!

Repeat Offender. The few times I've eaten at Aroma's have been very sub-standard. The Thai beef salad tastes like an onion filled coleslaw if you replaces the dressing with dry chewy beef and more cabbage... At $9 for a large takeaway, it most definitely isn't cheap.

As a barista, a mocha should not be bitter... coffee alone should barely hint on bitter. The automatic dose and tamp machine is reducing your ability to produce good coffee and your baristas dont appear to care or even understand how they are producing sub standard coffee. 15kg of pressure with a correct grind should extract in the correct time. Not once have I seen anyone test a shot, or omit an over extracted shot. Not to mention the use of old, and bitter lined shot glasses to catch extra shots for large coffees... another factor increasing the bitterness of your coffees.

The tropical smoothy was more like mango banana with the most earthy aftertaste. It felt like the inside of my mouth was coated in a fine layer of smooth dirt after every sip. Where was the citrus? Add some pineapple, or better, use pineapple juice as your base and add some passion fruit... it will boost your flavour and help thin out the straw crushing thickness of the refreshment.

As for your gluten free slices? The chocolate one gave me a headache from what felt like chemicals, and the slice (I think almond?) was delicious, however... Take it out of the damn glad wrap when you heat it up! I dont appreciate having to remove semi-adhered plastic from my $5.50 slice of gluten free heaven.

In essence your machinery is impeding your quality, and your staff, repies and proceedure need to be audited.

Great place to grab a quick coffee when in QUT, but don't expect great quality. Standard quality for above average price, but very convenient.

Aroma Cafe - Brisbane CBD. Many times I have been wandering around the vicinity and outskirts of Aroma - you cannot miss it. The bright red sign, all the tables spilling out of the dining area onto the outside pavement, and - while not always super popular - you can always see at least a few people eating in there at any time while it is open. It is one of the few major dining options at the Garden's Point Campus, and not bad if you want to avoid the fast-food style offerings that are in the food court below.

Who can be complaining in this part of the city, so close to the core of town to have such wide open space, clean air and have wonderful greenery surrounds? Right adjacent to the performing arts theater and within view of the botanical gardens, Aroma might well have a good position - maybe not for Brisbane as a whole; this place is what it is - but for the university the location is wonderful and central. This is one reason why I was meeting someone around here as a mid-way point.

Fare is pretty standard. Think bacon-and-egg style breakfasts, burgers, pasta dishes and plenty for the sweet tooth to have with their coffee (or plenty of other drinks if that is not their style). If anything, the closest to succinctly categorise it would be Italian style food. For service, you go up and place an order then get given a number. Next, the number is then found and the food is brought to you. Nothing fine dining, but quality for the university student wanting something a bit fresh.

So I went and got a muggacino and an order of lunch - the salmon farafarelle took my fancy. Servings here are huge and cheap; without any doubts they have the university students in mind - whom from experience are often low on cash and possess big stomachs. This pasta was no exception. It was in a cream sauce, with plenty of onion and some capsicum. They did not skimp on the salmon, or at least there was a noticeable presence of its flavour throughout the dish. For the actual pasta itself, it was cooked until al dente. Admittedly, near the end I was wondering how I could have fit it in. With effort though, it was conquered.

However, they could improve quite a bit on their coffee. The technique in the coffee was alright, the milk was well frothed and I found it to be drinkable. Initially, the coffee was not too bad on its own, essentially since it was the standard sort of cafe-style semi-chain coffee one would find around the place. What was a bit off putting was that the cappuccino that I had exhibited an odd aftertaste. It may have just been me, but near the end it tasted a bit like detergent - sort of like the mug had remnants of the dishwater from being washed. As an aside, this is the only complaint that I had.

For what it's worth, it will do. There are plenty of reasonably sized meals that will fill you up for the rest of the day, and is wholesome and safe enough to know what you will get in the middle of a busy day. To venture out here directly, it is not that kind of cafe. But, to catch up at a known point, for discussing assessment over a meal and when you need a coffee or whatnot - this is a good place for that.

Diana. I only had coffee & a muffin here so that is all I can comment on other than the service which was quite OK. My muffin was a tad dry though with not a lot of coffee flavor (I had the coffee & walnut one) Coffee was OK, but I ordered it with a double shot luckily as I am sure it would have had no flavor otherwise. Coffee was smooth with good lingering taste (with the double shot)

The salt and pepper squid was very well done and was delicious. I have heard horror stories of rubbery squid and itโ€™s always a relief after the first bite to find that my squid is not rubbery. The fries had a tasty herb sprinkling tossed through them and the salad provided a refreshing contrast to the otherwise rich flavours of the dish. I would order this dish again...
