Review Barbeku Charcoal & Grill - Brisbane

Joseph la Motta posted this over 6 months ago and it is still happening...had my car towed in a similar situation, this shopping centre should be Black Banned. Please let as many people as you can know. 😡 It’s also funny that neither the Kebab shop or BRISSY TOWING have a Facebook page.....wonder why!! YES YES YES - Keep away from 660 Brunswick st. (Nambucca Plaza Shopping Centre) Kebab shop - Night Owl and other shops in that small shopping Corner. Dodgy Landlord and shop staff in consort with Dodgy Car tow people called Brissy Towing and they wait for people to step one foot of the car park and your car is gone within minutes - cost me $550 to get it back. THIS IS UNETHICAL TOWING (READ: KIDNAPPING) FINING YOU RETREIVE YOU CAR (READ: RANSOM DEMAND) AND THREATENING YOU TO SELL YOUR CALL IF YOU DO NOT PAY (READ: BLACKMAILING) This happened to me 9:45pm Saturday night on the 04/03/2017 as I stopped for a few minutes to buy my grandchilden an ice cream. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THEN COMING BACK ANS SEE YOU CAR MISSING - WHICH CAUSE UNESSARY DISTRESS TO ALL THE FAMILY. FIVE MINURES = $550 NICE WORK - HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT - REMEMBER THIS: WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND !!!

Tasty food, friendly staff, reasonable prices...I took a star off because it's an imperfect world. Good kebabs help though :)

For kebabs, this place is good. It is just a glorified kebab stall, they have your typical choices but with a few extras added in there aswell. Everyone is being critical of this place, at the end of the day they do kebabs, the meat is cooking there all day, so yes, if you turn up at 1am, dont expect it to be the bees knees.. its just a kebab.. Chicken n Chips is my drunken choice anyways!

It seems slightly pretentious to be critical of a kebab store... But.
The young guy that works/d there was nice. Last experience, I was grunted at & no interaction from the staff, meant I didn't get what I wanted. Cold, soggy & salty.
8 years of living in New Farm & think my kebab days ended when I reached my 30's.
Not sure that's necessarily a bad thing after tasting this.

I dare not to say that I am an expert of criticizing what an authentic kebab should be but my taste buds will tell me if it is tasteful. Went pass the Barbeku and felt like to have something for my stomach so ran in this shop and asked for an order of kebab. The service was not that responsive and eventually I had one in my hand. Maybe they are only keen on on-line ordering so feel odd to have my walk-in order but I do expect a more friendly service though. Anyway, the taste of the kebab was so so......

Food was salty and overpriced.. Bad service, over cooked food plus it was salty, couldn't be worse.

Not good. I am suprised to read all the positive reviews for this joint and find them to be misleading. My reason for the disliking the food is for the following reason. The kebab meat comes from industrial meat supplied from outside and not from fresh in house fresh meat. The kebabas here are no different to other regular kebab joints selling industrial quality meat. If your taste buds are fine tuned for quality, then the meat here lacks quality. It is more suited for late night hangover grub . The seating is a few benches and stools and not ideal for family or groups.

Such potential but fails to deliver.. These people need help.

Mr and Mrs Food Ch'i went to this little takeaway on Brunswick St to feed a family gathering. We ordered food for 14 people. We were told it would take 30-45mins. Fair enough. While waiting the 1hr and 30 mins it took to receive food (which was mostly cold) we had the chance to observe a few things.

Firstly, they aren't inundated with customers. Secondly, the mainstream pizza place next door was a lot busier. I think the people who run this little place need the help of someone with their service planning and menu. It's a shame that after mentioning we weren't happy waiting 90 mins for takeaways the owner said "that's fine, if you are not happy just don't come back". Hardly the attitude one likes to hear in order to recommend a place to others or become a repeat customer.

Our experience at the shop was a shame because once we re-heated our cold food at home (in front of our hungry guests) the charcoal lamb and chicken was really tasty and the dips were great. It has such potential in an area of Brisbane with so many foodies. We would only go back if Barbeku Charcoal & Grill improved the way they ran their business.

We didn't like:
The wait.
The fact they didn't tell us they couldn't handle a big order.
The attitude of the owner.
The amount of polystyrene packaging and plastic containers. (Come on people. It doesn't just disappear after you've used it.)
Chips with everything.
The confusing menu.

We did like:
The lamb and chicken cooked on the charcoal grill.
Flavours of the tzaziki, hommus, babaganoush, beetroot, hot and spicy dips.
The baklava dessert.

In summary. Such potential but failed to deliver this time.

Food Ch'i

As locals, we love to get barbeku for dinner once a wk. Undoubtedly the very best kebabs & other fresh goodies with a lovely, casual atmosphere & great service. Two thumbs up!

Different but excellent. We had dinner at Barbeku last Saturday. I felt as having been in a small family restaurant at Bosporus. This small place has a charming atmosphere and very warm environment. It offers a variety of kebab and vegetable dishes at a budget price. I would definitively recommend the Barbeku Charcoal to everybody who is after something unusual but nice.

Wow - Great healthy and delicious Food. We went to Barbeku Charcoal and Grill 10 of us and I tell you what, awesome service and man the food. Great taste, delicious, everyone said it. Beautiful set up outside in the middle of Brunswick Street. I couldnt believe the taste of the charcoaled BBQ Lamb and Chicken skewers, I think Brisbane has a new taste of the Kebab. They have also Vegi options, but I like my meat especially when its cooked like that. Definately reccomend it, you've got to taste this. Will be back, can't wait :)

Great food, reasonable prices. We ate here for a friends birthday, there were 11 of us and we all had a fantastic time. The chef (can't remember his name!) was so attentive, the food was amazing, and the service was really good. Did not feel like it was a takeaway (they are trying to branch out and become a sit down place), and they had a canopy up which made it quite cosy. The prices were so reasonable, $15 for a chicken or lamb meal (which was huge!) or $13 for the veggie option. There is no corkage fee either, which was sweet as some places charge up to $10!! When we had all finished our food, they brought out two shisha tobacco pipes, which was an unusual treat! Will be coming here again, and I would seriously recommend it to those who like good food, a casual atmosphere, and reasonable prices! :)

New Farms seems to be the hub of all the places to eat around Brisbane, as even the little fast food-y places like Barbeku reside here. One of the non-cafe eateries around New Farm, Barbeku is a simple Turkish 'bistro' that serves kebabs, as well as some plates like Charcoal Lamb Shish.
