Golden Lane Chinese Restaurant

It took a while for Golden Lane to find their groove but I'm pleased to say they did. Customer service was excellent, the yum cha offerings were tasty, the interior is clean and pleasant. This place leans to the experienced yum cha eater - if you're new make sure you bring someone who knows what they are doing. The rolled noodles with bbq pork were divine. Well worth trying.

We've been to Golden Lane for yum cha a number of times and also for a wedding dinner, but never for their regular dinner. This time we came because wifey went for yum cha with a friend, and discovered a promotion where whatever you spend on yum cha that day will be offset against your dinner bill that night!

And so our family dinner that cost about $2 out of pocket:
* Z1 pork rib in Peking sauce, $23.80
* S15 crab meat with bean curd, $23.80
* F12 dry fried beef and green vegetable with hofen, $18.80
* plus a bowl of steamed rice, $2

The pork was my dish of the night - solid and well executed. The crab meat tofu was a little puzzling because we couldn't see or taste the crab meat, though a waiter assured us it's in the sauce. The beef hor fun was overall fairly good, but would be better with a touch more sauce. Also some of the beef was hard to bite through, so somewhat hit and miss on that one.

Not sure how long this promotion is going for but possibly every Thursday until further notice. I found a post on their FB page from 1 Nov with the details (in Chinese). Best check with the venue if you're intending to claim the promo.

Was lucky enough to be invited a table for zomato reviewers at this restaurant on a Monday night. Pleasantly surprised at how big and busy this place was. Unfortunately we were seated far away from the kitchen after we were nicely greeted. When our food arrived most of us were left guessing what dish it was as they didn't tell us. However each dish was well presented. The flavours were there but wasn't what I was expecting. My favourite dish was fried battered fish and the pepper beef. Thanks to Joe another zomato guest who explained each dish to us. A very memorable night and appreciate the opportunity to try many different dishes. Would love to come back and try their lobster which looked amazing.

Dined here with other Zomato foodies on Monday night! (Side note, for a Monday night this place was super busy!)

We were warmly greeted and shown to our table. Mains were brought out one by one to share and try. There was a large variety of dishes to try which was nice (my favourite would definitely have to be the Fish Fillet), however we weren’t provided rice or anything to eat with the mains which was a little odd - however still really enjoyed my night here! Finished the night with dessert - a black sesame pudding with a Goji Berry jelly. Yum! Thanks Golden Lane!

Was invited by the owner and Zomato to have a dinner here last night. Due to the mis-communication from Zomato, we did not know that it was a group invitation and my practice located in the same shopping centre so we arrived around 5:40pm.  
When we arrived, owner was not there yet then he rushed back to the restaurant for the arrangement of Zomato foodies’ night. He was so hospitable to offer us a table for an early start after he knew that we were rush back home after the meal. Again, we have to say “thanks” for the hospitality. 
We ordered their daily specials of steamed spicy ginger chicken, Green prawns with Maggie sauce and the Preserved eggs with spinach. The free range chicken is very tasteful but the negative is the texture (supplier’s issue) since I had tasted a better texture of the same kind somewhere else so there should be rooms to be improved. Green prawns came with strong aroma of Maggie sauces and they are very delicious. Vegetable dish was the hero of the night. Presentation is good and the spinaches are well balanced with preserved eggs. It was a decent dining experience. 
NB - We felt regret to miss the opportunity to have gathering with other foodies last night and hope that we will meet soon…. Cheers!

Had Yum Cha lunch at this place yesterday (indeed, we have Yum Cha here quite often due to the fact that the Dim Sims and service are much better than the Landmark next door). We were told by the manager that they have some new dishes on the menu, particularly some live sands just arrived in the morning, so we reserved a table for the dinner. 
Stepped in around 5:45pm after work and we were greeted warmly by the manager who suggested us to have the daily special of Live Sand Crabs with Vermicelli and the Steamed duck in Soya sauce. We took his suggestions and put an extra order of Spinaches in supreme chicken broth. It was a shock when we saw the sand crab hot pot on our table. What a large dishes of hot pot with two sand crabs only charged for $31.80! Such a bargain with rich flavour really deserves my thumb up. In addition, the duck with soya sauce also wins the 'ticks', those duck slices are tenderised and also rich in flavour; particularly the accompanied tofu that are soft and are very tasteful to go with the soya sauce. In fact, all the three dishes are all above standard with a very competitive price and I have to add another half mark in this review.

It is amazing that I place this review within one month since the last one. Well, I have written the reviews for the dinners time including my vegetarian night; however, I think I need to express my appreciation on its daily Yum Cha lunch period. Do not remember when I habitually select this place at least once a week for lunch (Yum Cha). Maybe due to the fact that the service and production have been improved significantly during the Yum Cha period. Dim Sims' standard is above average (cannot expect too much in Brisbane) and they never let me down. Veal spare-rib with black pepper and the chicken feet are my favourites. Sometimes, I will order the Wonton noodles soup, which is very competitive to those from the Zen Corner in the same shopping Centre (in a cheaper price). I do hope that they can keep the consistency forever.... Cheers!  
Just to mention, they are running promo in Yum Cha period this month with bonus voucher (10% of your bill) for your next time. Not a bad thought of promotion.

It was only just over one & a half year since my first review. The reason to have the second one so soon is due to the fact to review my vegetarian dinner last night. Prior to my visit, I was pretty confident that I could have some delicious vegetarian dishes from this renowned restaurant due to the fact that I had the impressive combination mushroom vegetarian fried rice during Yum cha at this place. However, I was a bit of disappointed to find it hard to choose some vegetarian dishes on the menu. Eventually, we managed to order the Deep-fried Tofu in Salt & Pepper, Stirred fried black fungus with asparagus and our favourite combination mushrooms fried rice. Amazingly, the fired came to the table first and obviously it was different from the one that we had in lunchtime. Let down was not the lack of saltiness but the additional bean sprouts in the fried rice, which had the moisture continuously emerged and the fried rice was then wet more than dried. Stirred fried black fungus and asparagus was alright; however marks would be added if there was "wok qi". Deep-fried tofu was under par as compared to the same kind of dish that I had somewhere else. Overall, the Golden Lane is definitely not friendly to vegetarian except the free dessert that they offered after dinner, where the addition of sago in the green bean soup deserved thumb-up.

Golden Lane has been opened for couple of weeks. This previous spot of Mint Buffet has its face-lifted and absolutely changed to different trading strategy with fused idea of Yum Cha, Cantonese cuisine and even some of the Dim Sims from Northern province of China. Management from original Cube Seafood and also has more experienced chef with high culinary skill joined in the work-team. Browsed the menu and discovered that it is quite resemblance to "Hao Ke" restaurant at Sunnybank Hill. Venue was quite cosy and has the potential upgrade to upmarket Chinese restaurant. Even though I have waited for couple of week prior to my exploration, there are still lots of teething problems. Wait-staffs lack of team-spirit and there are many "green" workers. Service is quite friendly but really lacks of an appropriate system. Ordered half steamed chicken, Pork Cheek with mushroom in Hot Pot, Braised fungus with asparagus and two stewed soup (crocodile with Apricot Kernel and tendril-leaved fritillary bulb and the Boiled Conch, Fish Mew and Chicken). Dishes are average without surprising but the translation of the Crocodile Stewed Soup on the menu is a big mistake (they put down Braised Abalone in Oyster Sauce, it is a joke!), which reflects the weakness in management. I wish the management could pay attention to their working system and wish them all the best in future trading.

Saw the recommendation on zomato and decided to give it a try. Ordered a live fish and pork rib. Taste is fantastic and authentic. It’s really good for family day.
