Review Ginga Sushi Bar & Dining - Brisbane

Alex Kasacous
Closed. Was good for a quick meal. It was busy today for lunch so the sushi train was fresh and hot item were hot. During slower times I suggest you order fresh sushi to be made for you. Sushi from train price varies and is coded by colour. Deserves a 3.8, but not a 4 stars.

Very dated cuisine, overpriced and a much lower standard of quality compared with Sushi Edo. A grilled salmon Aburi at Ginga is $5, Sushi Edo is $3.80... Ginga was popular in the early 2000, but sadly it hasn't evolved or kept up with the sushi market.

The staff were very nice and helpful when asked to recommend dishes and overall provided great service. The food was delicious, I ordered a Ginga sashimi platter to share between my husband and I and it was presented so well and tasted very fresh!

Ginga was really average. The Karaage was a poor imitation of Japanese cuisine, looking more like basic fried chicken. The chicken terriyaki was overcooked to the point of being dry. The servers failed to bring over tap water after it was requested with the order. I wonder rid they even like their jobs.

Always great. The sashimi was fresh and tasty. The tempura crab meat sushi is especially delicious.

Service a bit lacking sometimes, but food generally good! Better experience in morning before rush at lunch.

The service here is absolutely AWFUL!! My partner and I went to have dinner there tonight (Thursday 2 Jan) and asked for a table in the booth rather than a table on the train and the waitress staff with a boyish look seemed obviously annoyed and gave me an attitude and told me those tables are reserved. We left around the time they're closed and those tables were still available the whole time. Anyway, I'm not really surprised as waitstaffs weren't Japanese. Meals are average, my curry was a bit sweet but my partner enjoyed his meal. So overall service needs BIG IMPROVEMENT!!!

Me and my husband ate here tonight and it was awful in every way. The service was so bad. There was barely anything on the train going around and the 2 items we took off the train were pork buns and dim sums and both were stone cold and disgusting! We then ordered and received our order fairly promptly however the miso soup I ordered was lukewarm at best. The sushi was bland and made without care and they forgot items off of our order as they guy who took our order did not write any of it down. When we complained about the pork buns and din sums being cold off the train they said they regularly check items on the train and did not offer to remedy the issue. I’m pretty sure that practise goes against safe food standards! I would not recommend going here. I’ve been many times to Ginga in south bank and they were much better. Steer clear of the Carindale one. They just don’t care about you or their food! Spend your money elsewhere!

Coincidentally we had a Friday dinner at this restaurant and had the same dishes as Joe. Agreed with his comment that both the sashimi platter and deluxe Wagyu bento are good. Love to see the freshness and the varieties of seafood it served for the sashimi set. Personally I like to have a med-rare Wagyu but it plays safe to serve a well. If the tempura of the bento set is more crispy. A higher mark on this review is deserved.😋

Phuong Tran and I decide on a Japanese dinner so we bring our Sashimi-loving Mum along. Warmly greeted on arrival we are quickly seated and provided with cold water and menus. Our meal order starts to arrive after 20 minutes.

* Shark Fin & Jellyfish Salad is a tasty appetiser to whet our appetites.

* Ginga Sashimi Platter is nicely presented with thick-cut Kingfish, Salmon and Tuna, Scallops, Prawns, Salmon Roe and Tobiko. Every item is fresh and Mum loves the Sashimi. I would suggest ice to be placed under the Sashimi keeping every item cool.

* Ginga Deluxe Bento is a large meal. It comes with a generous serve of Grilled Steak, Assorted Sashimi, Mixed Tempura, Salad, Rice and Miso Soup. I like the variety of this meal and will recommend it to a hangry foodies.

* Unagi, Prawn and Tuna Hand Rolls have a generous serve of fresh ingredients and are delicious!

Overall, our meal is very enjoyable and the service we received was friendly and helpful. I commended the Chefs as we leave the restaurant. Well done Ginga Carindale!

Not good enough.

Very poor quality food, parts of the chicken were raw as pictured. Horrific value for money, bet my word this place will be closed down within 6 months!! Terrible!

The place is very inviting. Staff are nice and very prompt but what let's it down is its food. Very limited choices on the train. We actually left without being full. It also lacked presentation. A train should be full of plates especially on a busy thursday night. But it wasn't. We left because of the lack of choice

We came in early on Valentine's day, we were the first customers. The server was lovely, very polite and friendly. We noticed three new chefs in the kitchen and hoped for a new fresh look.

We ordered our usual deluxe sashimi platter and two cokes. We were pleasantly surprised with two coke cans instead of the flat drinks in glasses they served us last time. The platter didn't take too long, it was definitely a fresh new look to the dish but we were disappointed that there were less pieces. Before it used to be eight pieces x three different types of fish and two scallop. This time it was one old yellow scallop and six pieces of each fish. We attempted to eat the scallop but ultimately bailed it looked bad, smelt bad and tasted strange.

We usually have a platter once a week or fortnight here and usually the fish and scallops are good. My partner used to get the signiture ginga bento; salmon teriyaki bento used to come with a serve of sashimi. Now its served with tempura veges. Other than that change the salmon is drenched in so much teriyaki sauce and holds so much oil you feel sick after eating it.

Completely shithouse. Don’t waste your time. Staff were useless, had to ask if food was coming multiple times. Food bland as shit. Cutlery dirty.

Delicious sushi and udon! Good and fast service! Lovely place to dine with family and friends. I had the chicken curry and my friend had the tempera udon and we both had some sushi. The meals tasted very good and the sushi was fresh with many varieties!

The food is not what you expect for the price. Do not go on off times as most of the food has of been sitting for hours. Do not order from the menu as it is just deep frozen dumpling of very poor quality. I do not recommend eating at this place.

The food is just what you would expect from any sushi restaurant. However, it is slightly on the more pricey side. The service was average and the staff were quite welcoming.
...
Paid $13 for teriyaki chicken, only to receive what can only be described as flavourless steamed chicken with rice. Super bland and disappointing, could've got better quality food at McDonald's for half the price

Total disappointment. Never again. Sushi was not fresh, way overpriced compared to similar sushi restaurants, staff were extremely unfriendly, ordered food was extremely slow (30mins for a chicken skewer), the conveyer had absolutely nothing available. Dont say I didnt warn you...

food: below average
service: JOKE
my friend and I asked to seat at the booth inside, but been told that minimum 3 people. None of the table inside has more than 2. After we sit down, white couple were guided to the booth directly.

If you want sushi, try sushi edo!

It's a good restaurant to try sushi and hot food but it's not the cheapest one! I tried both (hot food and sushi) and was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately waiters aren't friendly at all! Why? No idea!!! They're always like this (I heard before). Any way, still it's a good restaurant and worth to try.

Consistently good.
Friendly and helpful service, food always great. A real favourite with the kids.
We often order items from the menu, and they arrive quickly and without fuss.
Fork N Food
Not bad. Be sure to go through the menu as there is a lot that doesn't come on the train including choices other than sushi. If you are just after a sushi fix then there are other choices at Carindale such as "sushi sushi". Well over priced though you do get to sit down and be comfortable. For sit down sushi or for a quick sushi fix rather go elsewhere. Good if you are in the area and don't have time to go elsewhere.

If you want a cheap but delicious basic udon, you've got to pay Ginga a visit.

The sushi train has a good variety of dishes, but I consider it to be in the expensive side. There's nothing outstanding about what's on offer - this is considering the type of dishes, the flavour, and quality/freshness, so I can't figure out how the prices are justified. Saying that, it's not ridiculously expensive - still worth going to if you're having a sushi train craving.

I quite liked this place. While I certainly don't think they're the cheapest around, the portion size of the yaki soba dishes is huge and the taste is on point. The free refills of green tea are also a plus.

The little per-table call button took all of the awkwardness out of trying to catch the eye of a staff member, and I found the service to be reasonably good overall. I wouldn't mind making a return journey.
