There are not enough superlatives in the world to describe how I feel about Etta. From the moment my partner called up to book my surprise birthday dinner to the moment we walked out the door, we were made to feel welcome and loved. My faith in the existence of good old-fashioned service and hospitality has been restored! There are just too many places who employ front of house staff with a blasé attitude towards customers and who would clearly rather be anywhere else, so it’s refreshing to be looked after by a team who genuinely care.
And the food!!! My God - I feel like I died and went to heaven! The bread with burnt butter is an amazing start, but you need to be careful not to stuff yourself silly with it. The pine mushroom gnocchi was definitely a highlight - the little fluffy clouds of potato gnocchi contrasted beautifully with the chunky, rustic mushrooms and sliced walnut. I could have happily devoured a huge bowl of it. My partner has a disagreeable relationship with onions, so the kitchen very kindly deconstructed the lamb dish so we could both enjoy it (the sauces contain very small amounts of spring onions and chives). When we divided the lamb up to share, we didn’t even need a knife, just a spoon, and it literally melted in our mouths. Divine! We finished up with the feijoa ice-cream sandwich, which wasn’t overly sweet and cloying like many ice-cream desserts can be, along with a lovely cheese platter.
My only complaint is that they’d run out of the spice mix for the Etta Caesar (a fun take on the traditional Bloody Mary) but, hey - that just adds to our reasons to come back again!
Went to Etta with some friends on Saturday evening . The restaurant was very busy , with a fantastic atmosphere . We chose the 'Leave it to us' option on the menu and we weren't disappointed . The courses were very fresh, tasty and beautifully presented . The service was outstanding , very enthusiastic staff and very knowledgeable on the food and wine. Definitely returning!! Would recommend to anyone who is a foodie .
Etta was fantastic. The fit out of the restaurant is modern and we loved the open kitchen and the bar area. Menus has a focus on vegetables and is designed to share. We opted for the tasting menu and were blown away. Every dish is memorable - even the bread! Standouts were the pumpkin, pickled vegetables, linguine and the chicken (chicken to die for - a must have!!).
The service is flawless. Grown up, attentive and personal. We loved every moment and we will be back! So pleased it is a new local.
