Review Padre Coffee Brunswick East - Brunswick East

Mel B
Delicious soy latte and amazing pastries from Via Porta. Very smooth tasting coffee beans which have been roasted well. Staff are super friendly and I can tell they remember their regulars. You can pick up your coffee beans to make at home at this store.
Mariana
Amazing coffee. My partner and I were here last week and were informed one of our coffees didn’t meet the barista’s standards and shouldn’t have been sent out, but we’d enjoyed what we thought were perfect coffees. As a result, they gave us both coffees on the house. We were a little confused because both coffees were, to our civilian eyes, perfect, but it goes to show how seriously the staff here take their service and quality. Needless to say, we will keep coming here and enjoying the delicious coffees.

They served me an overdone espresso and an old batch brew. The espresso is extremely bitter to be swallowed. I feel they like to poison me with caffeine. At Padre South Melbourne, I got many old and overdone coffee as well. I was expecting a better experience here, but I'm sure I would not come back to drink coffee at any Padre.

good coffee, kind and friendly staff, it is worth a try to go for

Minimalist and modern - it's a very clean space in which to enjoy very good coffee. Roasters and purveyors of their own beans. Simple but tasty selection of pastries, sweet and savoury, I liked, good tunes. Staff were full of smiles.
Daniel Edward
Coffee is nice and well made, not the Rodgers strongest blend so order strong if that’s the way you like it Great selection of very delicious pastry’s and cakes Staff and friendly and helpful, venue is modern and very clean
Sarah Hansen
Far and away the best coffee in the area. Don't bother going anywhere else.
Annie
Very friendly staff and talented barista, they know their coffee very well and you can tell they very passionate about it!! The barista even come to us after our drink to make sure we enjoy our v60. Top notch coffee for sure

Padre is synonymous with coffee in Melbourne. And there is a reason. Padre has blended, roasted and supplied many of Melbourne’s best cafes with beans since 2007.  Having tried many of their blends at other cafes I was excited to visit their Brunswick East café and roasting house. As soon as you enter, you realise this place oozes coolness. They are serious about quality and passionate about the beans. On a quiet Sunday morning along this part of  Lygon Street, Padre seems to be the only place that is buzzing (and not just from the caffeine).
Sweetchen
Busy coffee shop in Brunswick East area. Staff was friendly and nice. It also for mommy who carry the pram with them. Will be back
John M
A goto. The coffee is always good, always efficient. It is balanced. Staff are friendly enough, and for a place that does only light meals and coffee, it does a great job.

I wanted to love Padre since being a regular of their sister café, but the coffee at the Brunswick spot has been hit and miss. We’ve been 3 times and it’s been different every time. The first time both coffees were fantastic, the next 2 times were weak. It literally depends on who the barista is.

Absolutely love Padre.<br/><br/>The Brunswick location has a great selection of coffee gear, merch and as well beans.<br/><br/>They often hold free classes to the public which you can view and attend online. When I (Nic) attended, there was lots of great information, coffee and no pressure to buy after the event (even though I did, as they displayed some great coffee on offer).<br/><br/>Lots of seating, modern cafe layout and great coffee!
Breamjung
Great coffee in small clean feeling cozy shop!! Over all just love it. It’s so hard to pick one cafe in Brunswick because there heaps on the road, but if you after good coffee just go give it a try you won’t disappoint. Waitresses are also attentive and friendly, recommended this place.
Stephanie Campbell
Great quality coffee and very professional quick and efficient service. I like the retail coffee section, love being able to get a bag for home.

Amazing food and coffee, was served by a lovely girl with long hair and round glasses<br/><br/>I was really happy after the whole experience from the cafe
Thecheftable
a very nice cafe , coffee always spot one never had a bad experience at padre, always get one where I am in the area . highly recommend 😄😃😄
Affogato Addiction
Iced coffee, $5, no ice cream which is disappointing but it is nice coffee.<br/>Loafer bakery pastries. Sparkling water on tap.<br/>Very modern cafe. Padre coffee, chocolate, brewing accessories for retail purchase.
Pat
A great selection of beans and equipment, with staff who are more than happy to explain and talk through everything with you. Probably one of the best coffees I've had in a while.
ERMAGERDKAWFEE
Nice coffee. Very stark fit out, no distractions from the coffee. Very limited food too, adding to emphasis on coffee I guess. A little clinical for me to live it as a local place, but still reasonably nice

Pros: I went to Brunswick and I love everything about this place, it's a place for coffee snob indeed but not in the snobby way, service was great and they can absolutely cater all kind of your coffee desire<br/>Cons: None

Padre Coffee is a big name in the Melbourne coffee scene. After a little bit of research, I also learnt that Padre means father in many languages. It seemed appropriate to be visiting their East Brunswick store where it all began with my very own father (and mother). As soon as I entered the store the heady smell of coffee beans filled the air. It all makes sense as soon as you see the coffee roaster on premise.

We’ve been living in Brunswick for two and a half years, a part of the world where the entry requirements include knowledge of specialty coffee (the border patrol stop everyone at Brunswick Road – we take your coffee credentials real serious around here). We have a number of favourite coffee roasters that we visit on a regular basis, and they all offer incredible brews, obviously.
Brew Hunter
Padre Coffee located in Brunswick is a very modern coffee bar that serves exceptionally good coffee, brewed by lovely kind baristas. I have previous tried Padre beans before but have never actually been to the vicinity so I thought I would pop in one Friday afternoon for a daily caffeine kick. I was greeted by friendly staff and was gestured to sit anywhere I pleased. Water was placed on my small little table and I ordered a long black with great anticipation. The shear design of Padres interior is a masterpiece in itself showcasing the room where the beans are turned with numerous tasting boards on display as well as a whole bar dedicated for the purchasing some of their tremendous beans. <br/><br/>My long black arrived looking divine. The brew was perfect with a very, very fruity acidic undertone that lingered and danced on the palate. Upon tasting it is clear that Padre employes elite baristas as they craft coffees that can not be flawed.<br/><br/>Padre coffee truely is one of a kind but after visiting the store itself it is rather a sterile environment and is best suited for a series of tastings rather than the sit down and have a bite to eat sort of vicinity.

Customer service PATHETIC!! <br/><br/>Unfortunately the good these guys serve up isn't enough to save this place. Won't be returning ever again!! <br/><br/>I walked in last week and sat down at the front of the cafe, I was sitting there for 15min and never got approached by a staff member. There must've been 5 staff on, all walking around staring at the ceiling.. clueless. I had to get up and order myself at the counter.<br/>Yesterday I returned again, and once more it took 10min for someone to come over and say hello. 5 staff members on, and about 8 customers only.<br/><br/>Extremely poor! <br/><br/>Also NO personality at all in this particular Padre site. <br/><br/>Not really surprising , It is Brunswick !!<br/><br/>
The Beauty Of Melbourne
I have been coming here for about 7 years now and I have seen this business grow from strength to strength. Marinus and the team at Padre really are the best in the business- they take their coffee very seriously and it really is second to none.

Dropped by Padre Coffee for Coffee Catchups while our friend's wee one is at an exorbitant piano lesson. IKR IRL toddlers play piano. <br/><br/>In contrast, Padre's was fantastic! Both with food and music! Delicious chai lattes and croissants, and a gorgeous minimalist interior. Will definitely be back for more!
William Hasnever
Still some of the best coffee in lygon st. I love this place. It does get a bit too busy for my liking though. When it's packed i always seem to be waiting an eternity for a simple coffee. Worth the wait though. Piccolos are insanely good here
Sarah Harvey
I've been coming here a long time but will give it a miss from now on.<br/>I think Padre has become too successful and has lowered its standards.<br/>It's packed on Saturdays and you wait a long time for your coffee which is lukewarm and flavourless<br/>The staff are variable-some are great but some are not so great.<br/>The food is OK. Thumbs up for the new pie warmer!
JO
Coffee is always good and with consistent quality . You can smell the aroma of the coffee bean from outside of the cafe. One of our favourite places to go for coffee.

If you’re picky about coffee and you always look up the best coffee shops in a city before your visit then you’re lucky if you plan to visit Padre cafe as I did, this thriving cafe and roasting business established nine years ago, my last visit here they were called Brunswick East Project, <br/><br/>at the same time not much has changed at Padre, besides being double the size, its still a small owner run business that prides itself on exceptional products and outstanding service. they love making coffee<br/><br/>The food menu keeps it simple, a range of tasty pastries and baguettes with simple fillings,<br/>all worth drooling over! plus there’s a great range of brew gear, and Padre beans to take home.<br/><br/>Me! I went for the cronut, Oh good lord! a match made in sensory heaven.<br/>the soft, spongy interior of a doughnut, and the delicate, flaky outer layer of a croissant, <br/><br/>This East Brunswick temple to all black and milky coffee and fried powder sugar dough, <br/>owing to the magic that happens whilst dunking your cronut into all that premium single origin and blended coffee brewed drip. Good right down to the last sugar sludge sip!<br/>

I have been living in Australia for seven years now and Padre's coffee was my first. In the meantime i have tried so many different coffee places because i have moved to a different suburb but no other coffee place is as good as Padre. They never ever fail me, their consistency with their coffee is just amazing. Thank you<br/>Marilene
The Critic's Critic
Coffee is average. Service is slow, staff too cool for school. Coffee aficionados should know better. Buying a coffee shouldn't feel like you're lining up for a book signing.
Coffeebuffid
One of my favourite coffee shops in Melbourne. Very comfy place, knowledgeable and friendly staffs and awesome coffees. Bought a bag of their seasonal blends and will do more!
Antoinette Chahine
the service is very good, coffee is very good and so is the pastries. A little pricey, and you can choose the weekly coffee blends to drink. I love this place and would recommended to everyone.
I^v@^y
very interesting place from the street you won't notice this cafe.. the ambience is very nice... the coffee for me is too milky prefer more fragrant coffee bean and stronger taste.. the danish is very nice.. not sure if it is made by them :) overall experience nice.. will return again..
Gabriel Karamoy
Love the coffee, ambiance, concept. One of the best coffee shops ive been in Melbourne. Had a perfect piccolo with a balanced acidity and pleasantly mild sweetness. The staffs are all great and helpful. Thanks to the female staff for being so helpful! Bought a bag of their beans! Highly recommended 👏
Chris
Best coffee shop for miles around. Super friendly and attentive staff. They roast their own coffee which is fantastic both in store and for your coffee machine at home. Well worth the visit.
Charli.jay
Coffee is nicely made, i was a bit disappointed that they don't have almond milk here though! Most other well known coffee shops have caught on that it's the better option than soy.
Jacqueline
Padre coffee - good coffee, terrible service. They know that their good reputation and good coffee will keep customers coming, so they don't put as much effort into training staff. As a regular I get coffee almost daily and generally enjoy the experience, however the frequency of mistakes tarnishes the customer experience. <br/>Earlier this week I waited for ages whilst they fixed the machine, and was then moved to the back of the queue due to this error, despite having waited the longest and also having the exact cash for my one coffee order. I no longer had timeto wait and so left for work.<br/><br/>On anothet occasion this week I waited over 20 minutes for my take away coffee - I don't necessarily mind waiting as the coffee is good and I understand that a popular cafe does get busy. However, upon enquiring, it turned out that the server had lost my docket and my coffee was never coming, so I left late for a work function and without any coffee at all.<br/><br/>Given that I've gone home without coffee on two separate occasions in one week is extremely disappointing. I hope that Padre put more effort into training staff in order to retain customers in the future.
Crispymelbreview
If there was a place that took its coffee very seriously and studiously in coffee-centric Melbourne it is Padre. Everything is done to precision and the result is meticulous. Some unique quirks: choice of still or sparkling water; and the unusual coffee cups, which indeed contain resplendent coffee add to the multifarious experience. The concentration on everything coffee can make for a clinical atmosphere, yet the place is white and inviting and the sweets to complement the coffee, tempting and delicious.
Nick Komo
Sunday morning i really enjoyed my coffee. Not sure if it was my mood or because sunday morning but havent enjoyed a coffee that much in a long time 😁<br/>Made perfect
"JT" Jeffrie Trika
Okay, I was expecting more from a Cafe with a roasting machine and a name like Padre ... an institution in itself.<br/><br/>Okay, any Cafe that has it's own roasting machine and do their own blending must be a VERY serious place for a great coffee ....<br/> and Sweet and maybe Brunch Menu.<br/><br/>Soy Latte always consistent, Pour over a little harsh and muddy. <br/><br/>Service is super pleasant.<br/><br/>Coffee apparels are VERY expensive., but just go and enjoy it, you may have different experience!
The Don
I do enjoy my coffee, I wouldn't say I'm a coffee snob as I enjoy most coffee. Nothing better than on a lazy Sunday afternoon coming pulling up a stool and  having my flat white. Simply put, it's perfect.
Bentheeater
Came here to pick up some coffee beans. Was greeted with great customer service and professional advice. Coffee here is great and second to none. One waitress went above and beyond to satisfy my wife's random craving for nutella!
Ben
Went in to buy a filter coffee set up for home . Got expert help by friendly passionate and knowledgable staff who showed me exactly what i needed. You can't train passion. These guys knowing their product and the staff represent the brand well
Hello. Imnikki
Very limited menu but Padre is a heaven for coffee fanatics. Maybe it's just me but I can smell this place before I even see it. I just love the smell of freshly roasted beans, and even just coffee beans in general. I am often a creature of habit whenever I'm here - a skinny latte and a bag of Daddy's Girl to go. Service is quick and efficient and during the very few times that I have sat down to have my coffee, I never pass up ordering a pastry to go with my coffee. Simple and fulfilling.
Patsy
Been here a few times in the past. Love the atmosphere mainly . Whenever I have had a milk based coffee, I have to admit it is not particularly to my liking. A bit too milky. Maybe it is too freshly roasted, which I know can be a cause of this. Today I tried the long black which I thoroughly enjoyed, a smooth, sweet offering. When I asked the waitress though, if they had a coffee menu, she said no. She could have at least told me verbally what was on offer...i.e..asked me if I was after an espresso, a filter or whatever. She just simply walked away to go get me the food menu, which I had also asked for. This place is predominantly a coffee place, so the food is quite limited (bagels, baguettes and sweets mainly).... which I don't mind, as sometimes you just feel like a coffee. ..no pressure to eat. <br/>Overall a pleasant experience, the wait staff just need to use their coffee knowledge when prompted. And note to self : stick to the black coffees when I'm here.<br/>
Simone
I've been coming here since it first opened 7 or so years ago. It's the best coffee around and great friendly service. I always buy their home roasted Daddy's Girl coffee blend for home use. They serve simple food like filled rolls but also have an increasingly yummy selection of sweet treats to have with your coffee.
Arnold Keith
Love the coffee and the atmosphere, a consistent 8.5/10 coffee. Keep up the good work guys you got me as a regular customer. 👍👍👍👍👍☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️

I'm a huge fan of the coffee here, impeccable! They roast their own beans here and just walking past you can smell the goodness. I almost always get the Smoked trout baguette and it's never failed me! I do have a tiny issue with the service, however, I've experienced half half .. Hopefully it's just because the server was having a bad day but pretty poor! I'm willing to look past this though just because it is pretty great here!
Q
I get my coffee fix here and leave with a bag of padre coffee always. The croissants are beautiful and while their menu is limited, it's the coffee that makes you return for more.,
Out And About
This place is serious about coffee. They roast themselves selling under the label Padre and have an immaculate display of their roasting visible from the cafe. Interestingly they don't offer food other than pastries and small deserts. I guess the focus is all on coffee. Brunswick East Project drive 2 beautiful Slayer coffee machines and have delivered perfectly roasted and extracted coffee consistently each time I've been here.
Common Foodie
An ace cafe where all their beans are roasted onsite. Padre coffee here is delightful & the food is fresh minimal. No complicated brunch options to be seen. It's all about no fuss baguettes, crumpets, baked goods & salads all under $10. An impressive selection of take home beans is available for purchase along with any home brewing accessory you can think of.
Yasmin Forster
Best takeout coffee I've had in Melbourne! Nice selection of pastries at the front counter however unsure if food is sold/what it is like due to passing by but based on the coffee alone I'll be back!
Tobes Jones
Great coffee and friendly service try to go earlier on weekends if you can because it can get quite busy. They roast their own beans so there is a really nice smell through out the place.
The City Lane
Brunswick East Project is my local cafe and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough to anyone in the area. These guys are serious about their coffee which is roasted on site. The coffees are consistently good, whether it’s a milk based espresso drink, hot filtered drink or cold drip and the small selection of breakfast options are decent too (the breakfast tart and choc-raspberry muffin are my favourite).

I like the feel of the place, but was extremely let down by the coffee. I will return to give it a second chance to impress, and I hope that visit will be much more enjoyable.

Chance of returning: Medium – Whenever I am at that end of Lygon St.
Let Me Feed You
Latte. An excellent cup of coffee, strong flavour, quite warm and with a skewed heart drawn in the froth.
Dave
Yes, it says "No Hawkers or Bloggers" on the door. But I love this place, so I'm living dangerously. All for you dear friends. The friendliest cafe staff, the best advice and definitely some of the best coffee being delivered. After many many coffees, I have to say TBEP does the most consistent coffee around. Did I also say consisten
Georgie_eliza
Not sure what all the fuss is about. My partner and I live just around the corner from this place and had seen people pouring through the door. So we thought we'd give it a go. Fair to say it looks good but thats about as good as it gets. As we arrived I held the door for one of the male staff members and didn't even get a smile or a thank you - I can see past rude people but then we waited over 10 minutes for 1 takeaway coffee that tasted so bad my partner had to pour it down the sink - this place gets a negative review, hands down. Average staff, Awful coffee (and thats coming from a non-coffee snob), nice looking interior and a very limited menu. We dine out a lot, probably 5 times a week for brekky, lunch and dinner and this place sucked. Needless to say, we won't be back. Try Minor Place or Jellystoner just around the corner on Albion St.
Coburg Dweller
A favourite. My fave coffee in Melbourne. Also has fantastic muffins. Only downside is wait for coffees on weekends - has become a very busy place.
Pg41
Best coffee. My favourite coffee in Melbourne. The almond croissants and savoury muffins are also delicious! Love that sparkling water is included.
Brad
Turned Bogan. I'm amazed at the positive reviews here, I think the cafe staff and owners are writing reviews themselves and posting them as if they're real people as part of marketing. Just read the tone of the preceding review ' The Smoothest Beans in Town'. The standard of customer service has really declined. Several of the staff are shockers a couple seem ok.
Kaemera
The Smoothest Beans in Town. I developed my coffee addiction early, but the plus side of that is having tried coffee at almost every café, roastery and lunch spot in whatever suburb I was living in.<br/>And the guys and gals at this place know their coffee. Come for the short black, the latte or even a chai tea with honey. Stay for the pervasive aroma of fresh roasted beans, the friendly and knowledgeable staff, the jaw dropping range of home-brew equipment, and the range of beans to take home and brew.<br/>If you're overwhelmed by the options, the staff are more than helpful and, if it's quiet, can chat about beans, origins and flavours til the cows come home.<br/>Head barista James was voted Barista Of The Year in The Age Good Food awards, which should tell you something. Swing past and you'll never want to drink your coffee elsewhere.
Bdcarlton
The new morning drop in for me!. My daughter and I visit here often after school drop off. Great coffee, great table service and a fresh selection of pastries and muffins. They also have a great and the newsiest selection of mags and newspapers. The water is still or carbonate and is on tap!!!! I like they way that there isn't a breakfast menu as such... it keeps is easy and non fussy. The baby chino cups are colour coded as well: blue for boys pink for girls...nice touch. But above all this just a great way to start the day....happy customer!
Misseldr
Coffee lover. I like to wander the streets of Brunswick on my days off and found myself in here. Delicious coffee and cake selection and very friendly staff :) I was luckily enough to have the little outside garden to myself. I'll be back :)
Meganbuckley22
Wank. What a pretentious and ordinary place. And the coffee isnt even that good!<br/>I ordered a cheese and tomato croissant. <br/>On a freezing morning it came cold. <br/>The waiter told me 'we dont heat or toast any food except bagels. We dont have any appliances'<br/>Are they kidding? How is that a boast in a (not cheap) cafe. <br/>But heaps of pretentious young people there so must have a market. <br/>One good thing: the free water is carbonated
Peter Jones
Coffee was decent, but sour. Slow clunky service but quick coffee. Nice pastry selection.
Phillip
Good coffee and have never had a problem with the service however have not been back since they hiked up their prices. $4.00 for a small long black is a little on the high side for me... A shot of coffee can't cost that much especially when they roast it on site...
Ben
Decent coffee, but some of the worst service I've seen at a cafe. Staff are friendly enough, but I stopped going after being completely ignored on numerous occasions, even when staff could clearly see me. A real shame.
Hanna Murray
Great relaxing space with brilliant music. Loved the coffee too.
DoroSan
Nice. As all the places opening since a year, very nice, rustic but accurate style, "very Hipster" some one would say..Coffe was good anyway.<br/>Good to go if you are around!
Karl
Dont bother going, there are lots of better places around. It's uncomfortable, the staff ignore you and the food is boring, not that great and left a bad taste in my mouth. There was also no choice of food with only 3 rolls. I would have preferred to goto Nandos next door
Fliq Redgen
Painfully mediocre . Went to this cafe based on the high urban spoon review. Service was poor , ignored by staff when we arrived . Food choice is limited and flavourless . Possibly one of the worst sandwiches I've ordered. Coffee was ok, but nothing amazing . The wrong milk was used and my cup had no handles. There is a better places to eat in Brunswick East , don't bother. .
Alana
I am here at least 4 times a week. The coffee is perfect every time, never bitter and always the right sip away temperature. Everyone is so friendly and their muffins are boss. I highly recommend this place!
Zoe
Love it, thanks !. Hey guys,<br/><br/>Thanks for a fantastic afternoon. Only stayed for a quick bite to eat and a coffee, but boy was I impressed. With the huge overflow of cafes buzzing around the Brunswick/Carlton area, it's tough to stand out of the crowd. For good reason, this place definitely does that (while at the same time appearing quite modest and down to earth).<br/><br/>My macchiato was so smoothe - the extraction had a really good depth to it and I found there was no uncomfortable aftertaste. The dash of milk was very silky, and I didn't need sugar which is also a plus.<br/>My lunch was also really delightful and the bread was divine. <br/>Topped off with friendly and welcoming staff, I was really happy with my experience here.<br/>Will be back, thanks again!
Johno C
Such a shame this place has dropped off used to be really good before they expanded and went to table service. Their ice coffees were the best you could get but 3 times now been then when hot weather and not available because ice cream melted, how about you just buy a decent freezer for it then.
H.dashnow
Best coffee in Melbourne (really!). In my opinion, Padres roast the best beans, and the baristas at the Brunswick East project know how to make them sing! I have spent a lot of time trying out "best coffee in Melbourne" type lists, and the Brunswick East Project always comes out on top. If you like smooth foam and a touch of caramel, this is the place for you. Also, a great range of freshly roasted single origins and house blends. I buy my beans for home here every week.<br/>Setting aside the coffee for a moment, the staff are great fun to chat with. The owner is a friendly Kiwi. The décor is modern bent on the warehouse theme with some retro touches. The stools don't make for the most comfortable experience, so grab the chairs just inside the windows if you can.
Bert Laydry
Great coffee, nice food.. I loved the rolls, especially at $7. but now they're $10 all of a sudden, I don't think I'll pay that.
Eden
Home away from home. The Brunswick East Project is easily one of the best places in Melbourne to get a great coffee. Each time I visit the staff are attentive and very friendly and they certainly know what they're doing when it comes to coffee. The muffins, breakfast tarts and browines are tasty and locally made and the rolls are quite nice. Ignore the people who bag out the decor and clientele, the B.E.P always has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the regular group of mothers, and fathers, who gather at this fine establishment are hardly a problem (unless you can't bear the sight of people with their kids and prefer the idea of living back in the 50s)
Teenz84
Delicious coffee and awesome rolls.
Brandon
I usually wouldnt go out of my way to write a review but this place has an unaturally bad vibe for a brunswick cafe..Wait staff have a very condescending attitude, sterile decor, overpriced coffee, and breast feeding to help with digestion of your meal.<br/>I think in future i'll leave the brunswick east project for the mothers and children.
Dining Monkey
Best coffee. The Padre coffee is so lovely, probably the best coffee I've had. I visited for lunch and had a roll, which was fantastic. Was left craving another for many weeks afterwards! Service is great, definitely recommend.
Kell Bendle
Prompt and delicious
Terror Nova
Stumbled onto this place on a Saturday afternoon, had the most perfect flat white (strong, not at all bitter, beautiful milk) and a peanut butter wolf milkshake (also great, made with crunchy peanut butter). We also ended up trying two of their rolls. <br/><br/>Food was delicious, drinks were amazing, the staff were friendly and the space itself is large, flat and well designed. Just perfect.
Sweet Chilli
Great coffee and service. just what you expect from these guys!
Deborah Smith
If you love coffee - this is the place.
New 2 Bwick
It's all about the coffee!. They know their stuff. Highly recommend .
Swabhitch
Missed again with the coffee kids. More misses that hits with coffee. How hard can it be to make great coffee from a Slayer? The equipment is there ,but not the Baristas.
Hubble
Saturday lunch, not busy. 8 staff wandering vacantly around. I would say bad service but its not even service. Uphill struggle to get someone's attention, get water, get drinks, get a menu - 5 items, the one I wanted 'not available' - only told to us upon ordering. Food ok but overpriced. Nice crockery no compensation for lack of service.
L
Nice coffee! Great service! Like it very much!
Brittany
Coool. Nice Coffee, would go again :)
Maxine
The BEST!. Yes I know it's a big statement, however when you've come here roughly once a week for months and you can't imagine going anywhere else in the vicinity.....and there are plenty of other cafes around here.....it's gotta be said!
Lucy2
This place just smells amazing! And it does wonderful Padre coffee. And is open til 5. What's not to like?
Nene
Amazing, amazing coffee. Long Mac. Wow.
Pnb
Inconsistent coffee. When you drop in to get a coffee before jumping on the tram you just need a hot coffee how you like it. sometimes its good sometimes its not. hit and miss.
Rathdowne
Great coffee and service, but terrible food
Steven Joshua-James
Noice. Padre coffee sings, considering this the consistency should be a little better, it really depends on which barista you get.<br/><br/>Bit of a design flaw in the cup and saucer set up, dont get me wrong they look great but I can just imagine how many spaz customers would spill their coffees due to the spoon slipping down onto the base.<br/><br/>Massive thumbs up to serving tap water both still and sparkling, very sustainable.
Feedme
Never know what to get. I wish they used the ame barista all the time.<br/>coffee is anyways different. sometimes cold, sometimes burnt.<br/>not really worth the wait.
Tilly
Great coffee. Have only ever had coffee here but it is top notch.! Even when they're getting slammed the staff are really swift.
Musclediaries
Even though the name doesn't mean anything, this place is like a father to me. I love sitting at Padre on my laptop pretending I'm important. I'm sure people are always looking at me going 'Wonder what he's up to? Probably writing an eBook on how to make millions selling old furniture on eBay." best we leave him alone. <br/><br/>But this is not a review on me and the way society views me whilst I sit in a cafe, it's a review on Padre.<br/><br/>I love this place, I didn't want to come here initially as I thought it was full of young people who have a semi decent education, weighty opinions on things they haven't experienced in life yet and wear a lot of thin flannel shirts but I was wrong and I apologize for my stereotyping.<br/><br/>Amazing Coffee, so much flavour and very unique; even to the very cup it comes in ( like a trendy, ceramic, tribal cup ) it's ruined every other place I get a quick long black from unfortunately. <br/><br/>Service is great and all the staff seem extremely nice I give this place my patented 12 thumbs up.
Zane David Holloway
Padre is Perfect. Padre beans are among some of the best coffee beans in Melbourne. I've only had a handful of coffees here, but they've always been great. I would say this is one of the best coffee spots in the area, worth every cent.
Anna
Disappointing!. I wish I could like the Brunswick East Project, the staff were friendly and I love beans from Padre! Unfortunately, my coffee had a very strange sour tang and I've had so much better elsewhere.
Ben
RELIABLE. This place hasn't changed since i first visited in 2010 - its gotten bigger of course and busier. Coffee is reliable, prices are fine and the range of snacks are perfect.
Rob N
I went here for the first time, and I found the service to be pretty good. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I got my coffee and muffin fairly quickly and both were nice. I will be going back.

Good coffee but far out the service is bad. Each time I have been they always get my order wrong and that's just for takeaway! If you're just after a soy latte or a flat white you'll be fine but otherwise exercise a little patience and be prepared to a) repeat your order twice b) have someone else's coffee/muffin/juice put on your bill c) ask kindly for all the items you purchased, not just the ones they remembered to hand over d) all the above.

Great!. Excellent! focused on great coffee, and that is what counts.

Best coffee in Melbourne. OK I know I'm going to get lots of flack for that but...I've been working up in Brunswick for a while (live in Northcote so spoilt for choice there too) and I was recommended this place by a local. Well I was gobsmacked, such a beautiful cup of coffee, not bitter at all, but still with a bit of strength. Think it helps they use Jonesey's milk too. They have a few cakes but not much in the way of food, the focus here is definitely coffee. And yes the staff are lovely and friendly and they don't mind you hanging out on a rainy day.

So far the best coffee in brunswick that i've tried. Keep it up guys. Shame you r not easier to reach from my house.

More like pad-YAY (har har). Padre make beautiful coffee, every time. I now walk past a dozen cafes on my days off to get to Padre, because it's consistently good. There are changing blends the staff take coffee seriously without being pretentious, unfriendly or unwelcoming. They are polite, friendly and I don't feel like I'm ruining their precious image when I'm waiting for a coffee in my fugly dog obedience school getup on Saturday mornings. <br/><br/>Even when full and busy on weekends, the staff are never flustered and the place buzzes rather than feeling out of control. Everything seems to switch into another gear and the quality of service and coffee is not affected. Gross, cool Brunswick types are allowed, as well as people with prams and young kids arguing with their parents about having to share an organic lemonade or whatever. <br/><br/>There's an array of fresh muffins and pastries etc in the front, and lots of coffee paraphernalia to look at while you're waiting - I've never eaten there, but even if were worse than the worst food ever, I'd still go back for the coffee.

Delicious coffee, friendly warm cafe. Outstanding coffee, no food which is unfortunate, it seems a lot of these new onsite coffee roasting cafes are all about the coffee. which is disapointing on the food side of things, but the coffee makes up for it! Great flavours and a nice place to sit and relax on a saturday/ sunday mornig with the paper. Highly reccomend to coffee lovers!

Awesome hipster free coffee shop. So many decent coffee shops are ruined by hipsters, this one accepts all and is arrogant free. Great coffee, nice atmosphere.

The best. I grew up in Brunswick and remember my MOther purchasing her meats from this old butcher. I have continued the tradition but instead of meat, consume coffee.<br/><br/>I have been a regular for a over year and this place never lets me down. THe coffee is always good coupled with the staff who are always pleasant.<br/><br/>Best by far! Only if my mother could join me for 'un espresso'

Wow. This place has 10 single origins to choose from. I'm taken a back by their serious coffeeness. Wow.

Awesome coffee!. Really there is no other spot in Brunswick for coffee...actually make that no other in Melbourne than Padre Coffee, simply it's just very well made & presented coffee. My only choice! Great relaxing vibe too.

Accepting of All. Im a regular. I love it here. Best coffee around and none of that pretentious elitism that dominates other spots like A Minor Place, Green and Raes. Everyone is welcome. 5 stars.

Awesome. I travel a lot and the coffee I drink is is epic. Luckily a collegue pointed out this place while driving the long road out of town. We stopped in and I have to say I was blown away by the friendly staff and perfect( and I mean perfect) coffee here. Long mac is my drink of choice but I followed up with 2 espressos and a takeaway to help me through the long drive. ....Hats off to you Padre it's the best coffee I've had, hands down - pity I live in Canberra, moving could be my next option.

Mrs Real Coffee. I am coffee lover but I tried Padre coffee in South Melbourne then in Brunswick (just in case I missed something in Sth Melbourne by accident) and I thought it was absolutely revolting. Made my belly sore. It looks nice and creamy on the outside but the taste is horrible. No texture, nothing. <br/>Nothing near St Ali

A local fave. Great coffee, lovely staff and the best cupcakes in Melbourne.
Brunswick Mum

The Best around. By far the best coffee in brunswick, if not the WORLD....

Brilliant. I love this place. So much that I walk an extra 10 minutes in the morning to get a takeaway coffee before work in the mornings. I bought an Aeropress from them and they talked me through how to use it, as well as suggesting the best coffee to buy to go with it. I am going there tomorrow to buy more coffee with me to take away on a trip to WA, i love it that much.

Same friendly service; inconsistent coffee quality. Too much variety between the coffee served up by the different coffee makers. James makes the best coffee there. I keep on walking if I don't see him behind the machine.... Pity.<br/><br/><br/>-----20 Jul, 2010-----<br/><br/>Expertly made coffee that never misses the mark of perfection. The service of all behind the counter is genuinely friendly and loaded with sincerity. One of the best coffee places in Melbourne and a great source of all coffee stuff - machines, jugs, cups...

Best Coffee in Melbourne!. This place is amazing. They only do coffee and some select fresh-baked muffins (sweet and savory), but they do it all SO WELL. This is undoubtably the best coffee I have had in Melbourne, and that's saying something- I have tried a lot. All the muffins are absolutely, mouth-wateringly, devine.<br/><br/>The staff are very friendly and helpful, explaining all the coffee options, and there are a lot of those. They buy all of their beans in green from all over the world- Guatemala or East Timor to name a few. They then roast them on the premises fresh and produce spectacular coffee.<br/><br/>If you want to, you can select the region of coffee beans you desire and treat yourself to a Sri Lankan Latte, or an East Timorese cappucino. However their own blend- the Padre blend is one of the best. Very creamy and smooth with soft caramel flavour.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is lovely too. Not many tables but I've always been able to sit when I've been there. Very quirky, very Brunswick. This is this the absolutely bees knees.

Friendly, fantastic coffee and great atmosphere. You'll never get a burnt run of the mill trash coffee here- they work to please the discerning palate.
LL
Beautiful coffee every time and very knowledgeable staff - friendly, and eager to share their passion of coffee. Worth making a detour for.

BEST COFFEE IN MELBOURNE ! Without a doubt the only thing better thentheir coffee is their friendly and awesome baristas! With all do respect to all the other coffee brewers in Melbourne , but Brunswick east project is THE BEST, I have not yet come across a coffee in the morning that even comes close to fulfilling my coffee needs. I think all the other roasters/cafes out there who lie to themselves and their customers boasting great coffee and instead only brew what can only be described as tasting like dirty water should take $3 out of their tip jars and go to Brunswick east and try a real coffee.. I said with all do respect

Great coffee. Great coffee..never fail..!! strong enough to give you a kick in the cloudy-damp-foggy morning in melbourne. I love their savoury muffins too

Finally great coffee at the top end of Lygon. Great coffee & nice people to boot. The guys are really passionate about what they do and it shows. Not much in the way of food but the muffins are amazing.
