Review Steam Junkies - Brunswick

Jana S
Cute place, innovative menu, some vegan options. The vegan Avo Chola was quite disappointing, and in comparisons to the meat option looked half heartedly prepared and was pretty dry without any sauces offered etc. Prices are kind of high for the amount/visual display of the food you receive, meat and vegan options alike.

Pleasant lunch spot, lovely location. Handy to trains and bike park.

Good location and ambience with ample outdoor space for seating. Coffee and pastries are good but the food leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately in terms of taste and quantity. Good place for a coffee but not for a brunch. Update: Seems like there is new management since March and new menu, so will be giving them another go.

Great coffee, located at the base Nightingale's The Commons apartment block.

Visited during June lock down of 2021. Your experience is likely to vary. We ordered ham and cheese croissant and brekkie roll. Both were delicious but the brekkie roll had onion which my partner didn't see in the ingredient list and she has a fodmap intolerance so we swapped. Both were delicious but more importantly the coffee (long black and oat latte) were delicious. The place is super comfy and would be fun to hang out in with friends. The barista was super friendly and very professional. We'll definately come back after lockdown and when I do i'll update.

I enjoyed the menu at Steam Junkies, little bit of the same, with a sprinkle of different. It didn’t live up to all the reviews I read, cafe seemed understaffed, with one waiter, barista and cashier, the tables hadn’t been cleaned after people were done with their meals. Coffee cup felt too small for a small. The breaky croissant hit the spot though, the bacon added the extra crunch. Plenty of 1-2 hour spots for parking along the street, and it’s opposite the station.

Off hidden away in a backstreet was this little gem, service was great and friendly. Coffee really good and the menu options different than just your norm . I really liked it and recommend

Good food and coffee, friendly staff and a nice warm atmosphere on a cold winter morning.

Love the way this place is tucked out of the way Friendly smiling staff Really interesting menu - quirky in a good way Best of all no loud music

Coffee was good. We ordered food and waited for an hour. When we told by the person cashing us out it was because it was busy. It was Sunday and busy but never have I waited an hour for food and then be told the wait was because they had a rush. I Brunch every sunday and have never waited an hour for food because of a rush before. Its a shame because once the food got to us it was really good. Would think twice before eating here again.

It was a rather a coincidence when I spotted Steam Junkies. I was on the train from Coburg train station heading towards the city and happen to pass by Anstey station (that's when I spotted this place). The next day my friend and I decided to stop at Anstey to have hot chocolate and coffee here. It's easy to spot because it's right beside the railway tracks. Overall it's a good place to have amazing vegan meals, love the atmosphere, love the cafe's interior decor and love the hot chocolate. But if you're a digital nomad or someone who's looking to get work done for hours, it's probably not a good idea to stay long because they don't have power points in case you need to recharge your laptop (but I noticed this in most cafe's here in Melbourne anyway). Correct me if I'm wrong. Wifi though is amazing.

Steam Junkies is s nice place to hang out with friends and also a place to give yourself some quality quiet time to study or work. The coffee is really tasty and food is super yummy with very reasonable price. Will keep coming back.

The coffee was quite good, and service was quick, but the potato hash dish was a really weird combo. The eggs were perfectly poached, but it was a potato rosti, not 'hash' and lacked flavour, and it was topped with a salad with a really sweet dressing.
I want to like this place but the menu needs a rethink. The potato hash would have been great with cooked sprouts and veg through it instead of a salad, and some spices for more flavour!
Hungry For Chips
Steam junkies is located right next to a bike lane, so what a perfect place to stop for a brunch/coffee after some fresh air. I can't bike to save myself so a run/walk it is. I continue my current poke bowl obsession and this time topped up with some sriracha mayo. Highlights: big on taste and easy on your wallet. Good combo of everything. Lowlights: the ice latte was a little weird, served with too much small pieces of ice.
Steam Junkies is in a great spot; right next door to Anstey Railway Station and the cycle path into the city.

The café is bright and open with lots of spaces to eat outside.

The service seemed to be a bit slow and chaotic... but once we finally caught their attention and they delivered the correct order... they seemed friendly.

There were lots of good things to choose from the menu. I picked the Potato Hash with poached eggs. The hash itself was good .. lots of golden toasted bits on the edges. The centre however could have done with a few more minutes in the pan.
The poached eggs were ok.

My companion had the Roasted Cauliflower w/ squash hummus. It was apparently very tasty but the presentation and balance of elements could have been better. It seemed to have two huge, very dry slices of bread and not much topping.

The coffee was ok.

Food 2.5* both dishes were tasty but could have been significantly improved with a bit of effort.

Coffee: 2.5*
Service 2.5* ok but it was difficult to attract anyone’s attention.

Ambience 4.0* a great location with a casual and sunny feel to it.
Emily Xia
Food was small and tasteless. “Roast pork” was served with 5-6 small thin slices of pork and very plain potato hash(potato noddle). Toast was served cold and Un-buttered. Very disappointed..

Think maybe it was just a bad day when i went as my partner enjoyed the food there awhile back but yeah unfortunately the food seemed as if the chef had skimped on the sauce and seasonings so it was dry. Also the tables were grubby. Great coffe though and cool decor. I feel like that day it was too busy for them to handle and they just kept packing people in

Bet you haven’t tried this one! Steam Junkies is a little gem with a warehouse hipster vibe tucked behind the streets of Brunswick. With a great selection of fresh juices, spot on coffee (small batch), scrumptious breakfast options and all day burgers and sandwiches, who’s in? It’s peaceful setting is for those mornings when you can’t do too many people, just you and a book or with someone you love.
Chamberof_food
Yum yum!! This place was the cutest cafe in a pocket of Brunswick where u least expect! A good vibe, friendly staff good breakfast and a good vibe!
David Donaldson
One of my favourite cafes! Lovely people and the food is great. Mushroom bruschetta is my usual- filling and delicious. Nice space too, especially on a sunny day.
Rod Barth
Coffee not too bad. Burger was decent at the price. I'll be back to try different dishes when I have the chance. However, so many other options nearby.
Kirsten Tanner
Gorgeous sunny winter day made perfect by a good coffee, halloumi burger and watching the world go by. Thanks for the bowl of water for my furry companion too!
Bear Noms
Cool hipster cafe tucked away right next to the railway tracks. Serves good food in a laid back atmosphere. We enjoyed our brunch and will be back for more!
Affogato Addiction
Very Brunswick style cafe, nice menu, overall trying to be no frills. They use metal straws.
Fritters, $15, good flavours, fried a bit oily and the dressing was very heavy.
Affogato, $4, interesting coffee blend with a tang that works well with ice cream, great that it's not a marked up price.
Would lean towards a 3.5 rating but given Zomato now only allows while numbers I'm being generous and rounding up coz I'd be happy to go back and try more things on the menu.
Renata Musolino
Today was the first time we’ve tried this place - almost didn’t because of some of the reviews - but was very glad we did. I had the mushroom bruschetta with avocado & poached eggs, he had the avo smash with a side of eggs. Both were fresh & delicious. Other items looked good too. Was it my imagination though, or are the cups a bit smaller than the usual? I’ll definitely be going back.
Melbourne Epicure
We were on a very strict meal plan (Whole30 - which we were doing just to reset our bodies and start the year fresh) and so eating out was usually a major headache as there were so many things we couldn't have that usually creep into so many things one eats regularly... But these guys were so accommodating with our plan that we ended up coming here twice more during our 30-day ordeal.

Sadly, the only thing we could have (even with some minor changes) was their potato hash (+ avocado!) so we are yet to try other stuff on their menu (we'll surely be back now that we can!), but based on this, we are big fans. Our dishes (and every other we saw come out) were nicely presented. The potato hash itself was beautiful, super tasty and with a light golden crust. The salad it came with was great and the poached eggs were cooked just right with an oozing yolk.

The venue is also quite nice with a rustic yet simple and industrial feel to it.

Their cold-brew (we couldn't have any milk so...) was actually really nice (I don't usually drink cold-brew so I can't expertly judge it though). And service was not only very friendly but as mentioned, extremely accommodating making us feel less awkward about us briefly being one of "those people". We will be back. Recommended.
Johanna
I’d been so much looking forward to trying this place and it was just underwhelming. The coffee was fine, standard Melbourne nothing special. The space is lovely and the seating not too uncomfortable given the warehouse vibe demands backless chairs. Lovely breezes and openness of the space. The service was nearly non-existent. Maybe it’s better for take away coffee to cyclists?

Service was slow, things in the wrong order and inattentive. When the first item on the menu is toast and spreads they should always know what today’s spreads are. And bring enough to cover a piece of toast. And the coffee didn’t come until long after the toast, which is odd and irritating.

Otherwise the menu looks like an Asian twist on cafe staples and from others in the group they also follow American portion size. Not everything needs a poached egg in it. That’s why I got the spreads but it ended up taking 2 trips to find out what they were and bring enough to cover the now-cold toast. This could be so much better with a bit of service and a bit of menu Jenga.

Steam junkies is located close to 'Anstey' train station (never even heard of it) in the Coburg end of Brunswick.

There is a sliding door that you have to carefully open to enter the cafe as it looks like it will fall apart.

Large glass windows are great for letting the sunshine in but may possibly be too cold to sit next to in the winter.

It's got a warehouse feel and lots of knick knacks around the place like a scattering of random magazines, a typewriter, and small terrariums.

When we arrived, the cafe was 1/4th full with a couple leisurely reading their individual novels over a cup of coffee, a couple bickering over current affairs, and another couple digging into their meals.

Prices are quite reasonable here ranging from 9 bucks for sandwiches to 17.5 with the most expensive being 18. However, the taste and the service is average.

We had a woman walk up to us and ask us if we were ok. I was like "huh". She then said "well you've ordered?" and I said "no". And then she said "so you had drinks" and I said "no". And she said "ok". And I said "we want to order though". And she goes, "that's why I'm here". What a bizarre conversation. Why not just come up to us and ask us if we wanted any drinks to start with. Isn't that how it works. She had one job and from the cafe being nearly empty by this time, I don't understand how she did not know whether we had ordered.

The coffees were very weak. I could barely taste the caffeine.
they had run out of the lamb pearl cous cous dish which I had been eyeing so we got the salmon egg benedict and the pork hash.

The salmon egg benedict had one poached egg with a small dollop of hollandaise, a radish leafy salad, one potato croquette and lots of smoked salmon. It was very unsatisfying and the bland puree barely added any flavour. Surely, more hollandaise sauce would have helped. The potato croquette was quite dry. A nice side of a chutney would have helped.

My friend liked the glazed pork but found the potato hash bland and he had the same radish salad in his dish that I had.

They do split billing.

It's got a lazy vibe.

Heaps of parking nearby. Close to train station. But I wouldn't go back.

Really cool dishes; varied and inventive. Makes you want to come back again and again so that you can try all of them! Friendly staff; a couple of communication issues on account of ESL, but no dramas. Prices were moderate and environment was spacious, clean and bright.

First time visit here and we were very impressed. I called ahead to see if we needed to book a table and was told we shouldn't have to. When we got there it was full but they had saved a nice table for us! Service was super friendly, unpretentious and unintrusive. Despite the raw concrete and pipes style decor the place felt open and airy and there was a sense of community watching people whizz by on the bike paths and the trains come and go. And the food - our lunch was fantastic. My Korean friend chicken burger was pretty good (but how can fried chicken not be) but the avo and feta smash with quinoa which my girlfriend ordered took the cake - delicious! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I always try a place twice first. I'd say we'll be back for lunch again next weekend

First breakfast we have in Melebourne. Fell in love with the place upon arrival. Coffee is good and the food is delicious and well presented. Really liked the place!

Nice little cafe. Very friendly staff. Menu offers a variety of food, also slightly cheaper than some cafes on Sydney road. Music of this cafe is very relaxing.

I had the potato croquettes and I love it, it came with lots of mushrooms and they are greasy like his most cafes prepare them. The portion size is good too. The coffee is slightly week but not so weak that I would complain about it.

Love the location of this bright and airy cafe. Located next to Anstey station so very convenient. Came for brunch on a quiet weekday and was pleasantly surprised with their small but yummy menu. I had the Kimchi chicken burger and my partner had the Pork and apple item. Overall good flavours and textures. I also ordered a hot chocolate which came in a seperate pour pot. Not sure why they did it that way but I wasn't really a fan of the grainy/powdered chocolate texture and it wasn't as hot as I'd like it to be. Coffee was drinkable.

My partner and I stumbled upon this place a couple of years ago looking for a new local breakie spot.
We love the Asian influence on the menu they've nailed it especially the chicken Katsu wrap!!

We've tried a few menu items such as the breakie croissant, savoury waffle and others. Interesting and creative ideas, my partner loves the food!

This place also has the haloumi of my dreams.

The staff are super friendly and lovely, coffee is good and decor is rustic with a bit of a hipster vibe.

Consistently delicious food, an original menu with great specials that change often, good coffee, chilled atmosphere - definitely a locals' favourite!

This place is amazing! The warehouse style interior is beautiful and while it's a relatively small Cafe it feels spacious with high ceilings and large sliding windows. The food and coffee is always delicious, I'm often torn trying to decide between my favourite dishes or ordering something new. The staff are definitely one of the highlights of Steam Junkies, always friendly and helpful if makes dining at such a wonderful cafe even better. Highly recommended!
Emelia Garwood
This is my favourite cafe in Brunswick! The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are extremely friendly & helpful. They offer small batch coffee on espresso and single origin filter and it's perfect every time. The menu is extensive with plenty of vegan and GF options.
Sylvia's POV
Nestled in a side street of Brunswick under an apartment complex neighbouring Anstey railway station is this humble gem of a eatery.
Serving delicious brunch foods and thirst quenching beverages you're sure to leave with a full and satisfied belly.
I ordered the potato croquettes and a Matcha latte. The meal was very filling, with varying textures and flavourful tastes complementing each other perfectly.
I was pleasantly surprised to find Matcha latte was made so well. The Matcha taste was noticeable and just strong enough.

My friends and I definitely will return Steam Junkies to try other delicious dishes.

Great hidden spot in Brunswick!
If you look where to run away from the crowds of Sydney road grab an amazing coffee at this cafe. Also love my brewed chai every now and then. Food is delicious and healthy with varied vegan and vegetarian options.
Cosy and familiar, I grab my laptop and sit next to the big windows looking at the transit of trains and bikes.
Highly recommendable.
S.

Charming and relaxed ambience of Steam Junkies would make people around there come into the shop. The owner Martin Sun(actually he's a friend of mine :p) shows a great sense of cooking so I think most people would be attracted by his high-quality dishes. Also, there must be crazy awesome coffee made by the missus.

If you guys are walking around Anstey station on Albion St., PLEASE visit and enjoy your time in fabulous fine cafe STEAM JUNKIES!
Delicious Doris
Ventured round the corner to Steam Junkies since my usual vegan café has gone downhill. So pleased to discover that Steam Junkies has 2 vegan sandwiches and about 4 other vegan hot food options. They're not clearly marked so vegans please ask! Got the hummus avo quinoa on toast and the cherry tomatoes that came. With it were perfectly toasted and the dish was delicious. Coffee was good too. And super cute location right next to the bike path tucked away from the main road.

I've been there a couple of times with friends. The best hot chocolate I have ever had. Chai latte is beautiful as well. Definitely will come back to try their food.

Steam Junkies located just off the bike path near Anstey station in Brunswick is a small little cafe under apartments that serves coffee along with the usual brunch style menu. The outside of the cafe is inviting with graffiti walls blending in well with the train station and trendy Brunswick feel.

Late on a Monday afternoon and in need of a quick caffeine fix I popped into Steam Junkies for a coffee. The inside is small with a limited cheap menu perfect for a little pick me up. I took a seat next to the window and ordered a long black. It arrived promptly and was kind of a let down. Firstly the brew was luke warm and on the watery side. The mouthfeel was lost due to the sediment that was left at the bottom of the mug crafting for a very very average cup of coffee.

Steam Junkies probably does very well due to its location next to the station providing locals with there early morning caffeine buzz. I like the idea and the environment of the cafe but great improvements ought to be mad to make there coffee more palatable.
Jodie
I love the food at this place, it has a large range of brunch style items ranging from small pastries to nibble on with your coffee to giant stacks of fried things perfect for the morning after a big night ;) They also have a good range of vegetarian dishes and have a handful of dishes that change every couple of times we go there. Just please don't judge them on the reviews from Ubereats customers. I got these guys on Uber once and was disappointed because their style of food just doesn't hold up to the wait times and transportation. Fortunately I'd been there several times before and knew how great they are, so it's an eating in only place for me.
Hello. Imnikki
Located on the ground floor of a residential building on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney Road is a charming cafe. Steam Junkies is quite aptly named seeing that it's also located next to a train station. Sit outside and your conversation is bound to be disrupted. by incoming trains. Sit inside and you can marvel at the industrial and minimalist fit-out, and the various vintage knick-knacks lying around. Service is prompt and cheerful, and we noticed quite a fair amount of regulars on a first name basis with the staffs.

The menu boasts the same old brunch favourites, with a few unique dishes thrown in. The South African style pumpkin fritters was one that caught my attention. It was definitely oilier compared to other fritters that I have encountered, and it was much denser and somewhat limp in texture. Flavour wise, it was undeniably pumpkin - sweet, savoury and earthy all in one. The addition of the mint citrus dressing and cucumber salad helped cut through the oiliness of the fritters, and also paired well with the side of haloumi that I ordered. The savoury granola gave the dish a crunchy texture, which was appreciated as the other components of the dish were soft and chewy.

My partner ordered the pork sandwich roll, which I presume is a new item as it was hand-written onto the menu. It was very much a take on a Vietnamese pork roll with crispy pork, parsley, BBQ-ish sauce, but minus the pate and with cherry tomatoes and mushrooms thrown in the mix. Good flavours, but overall it was a tad dry. The bread could be softer, and it would benefit from more dressing or sauce.

Our skinny lattes were reasonably good - both in terms of hotness and strength. The milk was much more frothy in one cup (the one without the latte art), and the waitress did apologised for both cups looking very different from one another. Fair enough.

Stumbled across this place on my ride home... I absolutely love the atmosphere - relaxed, welcoming, and not falsely so. No judgment if you're looking for a place to study while you caffeinate. Best Matcha latte I've ever had:) Food and drinks are simple, consistent and yummy, I'm looking forward to trying more items on the menu - although I appreciate that the staff remember what you usually order;). Highly recommend

Conveniently located right next Anstey station, Steam Junkies offers a cute space where to fill up your tank and get your day started.

The service is very friendly 😊 and once we were seated we ordered the Salmon Benedict and the Mushrooms Bruschetta on top of our coffees.

The coffee was served by 5senses and unfortunately the blend was really weak (supplier's issue).

The food hit the table after 15-20 minutes, and it looked like a good serving size and decently presented (loved the plates). However, there were several issues with the food: the actual smoked salmon was not properly cured and the cut wasn't fresh resulting chewy and not pleasant to eat (most of it was left uneaten). This is a shame as again this could simply be fixable by changing supplier. The salad had no promised grains and way too much dill, also plenty of coriander seeds. The eggs were poached perfectly but that wasn't enough to save the dish. Luckly on the other hand the bruschetta was much better, good combination of flavours and cooked well overall. The only hiccup was the too thick bread slice that made the toppings fall down. Guacamole is not guacamole though, it is just avocado cubes and sliced tomatoes.

I feel for scoring a 3 😭 but in this instance I couldn't go higher, maybe I will review it when we come back for a second try 🙂

Thank you for having us 🙋
Jennifer
This is one of my favourite cafes for coffee and food in the North. The staff are friendly, the coffee is strong and the food never disappoints.
Eatwithhendri
Mushrooms bruschetta was spot on. Oozy runny yolk from the perfectly poached eggs made my weekend shine brighter than usual. Not forgetting the haloumi burger came with generous stack of haloumi, a perfect remedy to cure my haloumi craving. Both dishes ticked the right boxes and so did the coffee.
Krishna Brannigan
An open inspection next door helped me discover this place. Just catch the train to Anstey station on the upfield line and you are here. Close to Sydney road trams. A Korean chicken burger with kimchi salad was delicious, foody had an open Szechuan sandwich with wasabi mayonnaise. Open until 3pm on Saturday.
Hannah Weera
Coffee is amazing, one of the best ice lattes. Great light meals. Uber eats delivery within half an hour every time, and the food is still hot and perfect.

An in-vogue Eco apartment building in Brunswick is home to surprising cafe, the raw but cool Steam Junkies. It’s next to the train line, and a very cool looking wine bar which we’ll have to return to. It’s an interesting shaped cafe, small but not overly furnished, giving the feeling of a much larger venue. The polished concrete and exposed ceiling make this cafe industrial and sheek, with a few comforting touches and a bit of colour.
Madeleine Athans
AMAZING!!!!!
By far the best breakfast I've had. EVER.
The potato hash was so tasty!!! This place is number one compared to anywhere else!
Emily
40min wait on food.
Pet hate: putting spinach on a meal when it doesn't say so in the menu.
There is like- 8 tables? Go figure. Bad first impression. Won't be back.
Chantel Charchalis
They overcharge for avocado ($5.50 each!) which is not clearly stated on the menu. Menu is written in way that it looks like additional avo with the eggs is only $12 total. Be sure to check prior to ordering. Other than this, the place was chill and food was delicious. Coffee tasty but could be hotter. Disappointed at the over-charge of $$ unfortunately.
Mary84
Really great variety on the menu. The field mushroom and quinoa egg dish was AH-MAZING. Lots of selection for gluten free and vegetarian. Service was good. Happy with the new find before it explodes in the awareness of all Brunswick'ians.
Ryan
If you haven't tried Steam Junkies yet, go!

Coffee is on point, and the food is fantastic. They have a really nice selection of trad favs, but with sensational little twists.

Staff are great and friendly, just a really nice little cafe nestled at the base of an apartment block right by Anstey station.

A quiet hidden gem of Brunswick. Steam Junkies delivered the right amount of good quality gastronomical adventure for a lazy weekday morning. We had French toast and eggs on toast with bacon. The French toast is one of he most impressively played dishes I have seen in a long time, but requires patience to appreciate flavour wise as it's extremely light in its approach to hearty breakfast. By comparison, the presentation of my eggs was disappointing, but the home made relish gave it a nice point of difference. Drinks were all excellent (capp, flat white, chai latte, hot chocolate)

We stop in our walk around the area Partner had egg and bacon toasted sandwich with Nicose bread and she made it vanish and she loved her latte I had a smoothie banana which was nice though tangy

Not terrible. Nice space with good coffee. The staff are very nice. Had the smashed avocado with feta, tomato and cucumber (?) with poached egg on toast. Generic breakfast fare.
There's something really nice about the location and setup - nice urban contemporary feel.
Brownhandlebars
Excellent food. The mushroom bruschetta makes you feel like you're definitely in the most liveable city in the world. The coffee is up there with the best.
Ihatefood
I'd go as far to say these guys have the best coffee in Melbourne. Good food is worth the wait, croque monsiure sandwich is amazing as is the pork breakfast, cherry smoked brisket burger is tasty too. Traditionally cherry wood isn't paired with brisket as it is considered too sweet but the cheese pulls it all together. One of our favorite brunch spots.
Common Foodie
Steam Junkies offer a menu to suit a range of tastes, including traditional breakfast options, vegetarian alternatives, or something asian or middle eastern inspired. Portions are large for the price. Although the food was a little slow to come out, it hit the spot & filled me to the brim. Located away from the main bustle, it isn't overly busy & a great little place.
Radek Rozkiewicz
I've been coming here regularly for the past year for breakfast. The poached eggs are always spot on, really nice variety in the menu and the atmosphere is great. Definitely recommend it.
Jessamy
This place is tucked a little bit out of the way, but has a great vibe. The coffee is definitely more hit than miss! I haven't tried much of their food, but the fruit toast serves are ridiculously thick (like, almost too thick?!), and super tasty.
Ice Man
Nice atmosphere, decent coffee and it looks like a good menu but when I went in there for a late morning breakfast one day, I could hear a microwave being used to cook my meal. I don't go out to be served food prepared in microwaves, so a big no from me.
Mar1oconnor2
Standout in standout burb. We are spoilt in latte-sipping Brunswick but this place is setting the new bar. Great strong coffee, smooth and not bitter.
Food...wow...I had the pulled pork eggs and my wife had the beetroot and zucchini fritters. Very high standard from a one-man kitchen and very friendly barrista.
Great venue next to Anstey station. Comfy and warm today.
Thanks again Steam Junkies.
Green Gourmet Giraffe
I had plenty of choice but I was intrigued by the salad. I chose the wild rice salad with pickled beetroot, Dutch carrots, raw shredded kale, goat cheese and truffle oil. It was magnificently dark and brooding.
Joe Chan
Coffee not good. To be blunt, our lattes were awful. It was a quiet afternoon so maybe the work experience kid was on the coffee machine.

The minimalist fit-out and funky location was cool. Lots of other reviews seemed to enjoy the coffee so maybe we just got unlucky.
JA W
Perfect hidden treasure. I love this place the coffee and food is exceptional and the environment is relaxed. The staff are such friendly cuties an make each visit very special.
Emily
Not your average breakfast!. This place is great! Consistently good coffee, and delicious fresh food. I love the croque monsieur, but really, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The specials are always interesting and tasty too.
Perthtomelbourne
Hidden gem. So happy to have stumbled across this cafe. The Mork hot chocolate was delicious, service was really good but the food was even better. I got the pulled pork benedict which was a large serving and full of flavour. My husband got the stuffed mushroom which was delicious and full of flavour. I love their menu as it's different to a lot of the cafés around Brunswick. Will definitely be back

Wonderfully Unique Meals. I love Steam Junkies because the meals are so different - in a good way. If you're sick of the same old big breakfasts that dominate other cafe's, try Steam Junkies. My favourite is the beetroot and zucchini fritters with poached eggs on a salad of pumpkin, rocket, apple and almonds. It's as delicious as it is colourful. The French toast with berry marscapone is rich and indulgent, and the haloumi burger is also a great lunch option. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.
LOIS
Great food and coffee. Good sized servings and reasonably priced and not too busy. We will be back. 9/10

Steam Junkies looks great. The Eco inspired decor and the cool signage meant I was very excited to try this place. I was ready to be blown away by the coffee, but I just wasn't. The coffee was watery and quite flavourless, and the banana bread I ordered was stale.

Consistancy. Never a bad meal here, great menu!

Lucky enough to live close to Steam Junkies, everything I've tried has been SO DELICIOUS both coffee and food I've been back again and again haha and will definitely continue to do so
Malchior_1
Great!. I live around the corner and love dropping in. The couple who run it are lovely and the coffee is pretty good :) the food is good too but the coffee trumps it for sure. I love that that it isn't full of hipsters clogging it up and u can always get a table.
Nick Mckenzie
Coffee is spot on! Been a couple of times

Great Coffee. Been here a few times now for coffee and they've always been on the mark.

Not good enough. I would comment on the food here but I can't as we left after sitting down for 10 minutes without our order being taken. no one even bothered to clear the table from the previous diners. had a look at the menu which was very uninspiring

Lovely Little Cafe. Tried this cafe today its a humble little place with great service!
My coffee & breakfast was lovely and a good portion of food I had the baked flat mushrooms, my partners coffee was very weak and we mentioned it to the barrister who made another coffee straight away without hesitation and it was perfect.
Humble service, cute place would recommend!

What an awesome spot. Saw it waiting for the train at anstey and glad we stopped to check it out. Had the baked mushroom and my partner had the Portuguese eggs. There was not an inch left on the plate and I left saying that was one of the best breakfasts I have had out in a very long time. To top it off the staff are very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

New Fav!. I'm from Sth Side however I was in the area and seen on urban spoon. The décor is minimal yet sleek, friendly staff and food was awesome! Coffee, smooth and good temp.

Came here for breakfast with friend. The food just wasn't very appetising in its entirety. Usually I love Guacamole and feta smash... But it just didn't work for me here. And the big brekkie didn't flow at all. The decor is lovely, but I probably wouldn't come here again.

Amazing coffee not so great food.. We passed by a couple of weeks ago and got a takeaway coffee to test the waters of this new and decidedly good looking Cafe in brunswick. We were delighted with the coffee so decided to return for breakfast the following weekend. Sad to say that we won't be returning after our not so delightful experience. For the start, as the Cafe is still new, we were the only customers in the place for 11am on a Saturday which wasn't a problem in itself if the two staff members didn't stand nearby and stare. We ordered the baked eggs which when they came out were still showing uncooked egg whites at the top. We politely asked for the eggs to be returned to the oven for a little longer and this was done, however they were returned to us less than five minutes later still to the same state of raw. The ramekins were more than half full of uncooked egg and cream so were completely inedible. We didnt feel comfortable returning them again so stood up to pay after finishing our (again) great coffees. One the two staff members asked how it was and we stated that it was inedible. She said 'oh. That will be $39 please'.

We've been a few times now and have never been disappointed! You wouldn't know this little gem is there, only 200 meters from Sydney Road, but it's
worth the detour. The vibe is relaxed and the staff very welcoming. More importantly, the food is amazing!! I had the Steam Brekky this morning for the first time, loved how beautifully it was put together. I'm also a fan of the Umami burger, the pulled pork, chorizo and bean Fabada, the Soba noodle salad and the Quinoa salad. We've also tried their apple crumble muffin today and it was delicious! Great coffee too, I can't recommend the place more, 10 out of 10!!

More like steam yummies!. I live locally and have pretty much worked my way through their whole little menu without disappointment.

Today I had their new Umami burger and had to do a review.. it is as titled with a lovely beef patty, truffled mushrooms, oven dried tomato and baked parmesan cheese with a slightly spicy tagarmahi mayo. the only thing missing was a glass of red wine even though it was midday!

The food doesn't disappoint. I started with a lovely carrot, apple and ginger juice, served in a jam jar with a handle, and then had a still-warm, moist and delicious chicken sandwich, with mayo, walnuts and salad. The real star of the show, though, was the umami burger, which tasted every bit as good as it looks and in a nice change, was served with roast potatoes instead of fries.
