Review Minimo - Brunswick

L Innes
I'm a bit confused because I ordered a scoop of espresso flavour but it tastes more like rum/raisin than espresso. Texture was soft and creamy, but the flavour was way off. Maybe the other flavours are better... but I definitely don't recommend the espresso because it just doesn't taste anything like espresso.

I just can not believe the size of a scoop I received, just ginormous!! Amazing staff, huge range of flavours, and cakes for a future visit. Highly recommended.

I love this place! Orded the oat milk choc and pineapple sorbet and both were very tasty. I loved that the chocolate one wasn't too rich - it was perfect 😙👌

Great range of flavours. Better quality than a lot of these gelato places that have popped up recently. Downside is all those tiny plastic spoons. Staff always seem to change and depending on who serves you, depends on how big your serve is. 2 scoops will cost $6.80 so sometimes it is value for money, other times not so much.

Amazing customer service by Alex, she's been so patient with us and very sweet. Plus the ice cream scoops are EXTREMELY generous in size. Best Ice Cream in Melbourne Xx

The best gelato I’ve ever tasted 😍 the lemon, watermelon, mango, mint sorbet and pistachio was so heavenly it’s like if I could eat clouds that’s how I imagined it tastes like. ☁️ . The staff were friendly and helpful, really good service and overall ambiance.

Bombe Alaska 10/10! Light biscuit base with lemon and raspberry gelato with a light layer of meringue. Very refreshing, it was perfect dessert and complimented our Italian lunch. Cut into slices (not wedges) enough to feed 20 people
Fat 2 Fit Lisa
Great little gelato store that is clean and bright with very friendly guy working behind the counter. When I visited they had a range of flavours like Amaretto Cherry, Fairy Bread, Salted Caramel and Snickers. The Snickers was delicious and creamy! Generous scoop also! They also have sorbets, cannoli and cakes! Definitely give Lagom Gelato a visit!

I came here for brunch with my sister.

The service was exceptional. The guy that served us was very inviting and nice.

We loved our food. It was filling and delicious.

It was my first time trying gluten free pancakes and coconut yoghurt. I’m usually very bloated after I eat pancakes but i found the meal light and satisfying. The maple syrup was tasty and the strawberries were fresh/sweet. The mixed berry topping balanced out the yoghurt and syrup. I also enjoyed the coffee.
Did someone say vegan pancake? How'd they know I'm unable to pass them up. Minimo's rendition are not too over the top, which is actually quite refreshing as they don't leave me with a sugar/fat stomachache. Compote plus raw berries add freshness while the cashew butter adds a creamy decadence. (Looks like they've now swapped this for coconut yoghurt, which would have the same effect.)

We had a really lovely breakfast today! I had the Avocado Bruschetta, it was delicious! My boyfriend had the special blueberry pancakes, they were fluffy, so yummy and it was a really big portion! The service was super friendly and also informed us about daily specials that were not on the Menue. I can definitely recommend that place 😊

The service, food and coffee is inconsistent, it seems to depend on who is there on the day. The space is small so you hear everything from the kitchen particularly the manager, and lets just say he seems quite stressed. I live very close and I so want this place to be good.

I stopped coming here a while back despite it being my closest local open on a Sunday, because I found the service very hit and miss.

Returned a month ago after reading about the new menu and decided to give it another go. Coffee and food get ticks, especially the fritters... very tasty!!

Service for me still misses the mark, especially if seated outside. It doesnt seem to be dependent upon how busy it is either. Today waited over 10 mins with no acknowledgement, with another table waiting even longer... just not good enough. To see others arrive after, seated inside, served and caffeinated just adds to the overall service shortfall.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think having to ask for service is acceptable. Yep I work in the industry and understand the machinations of hospitality but that just adds to my disappointment because the food, coffee and location are of a very good standard.

Delicious Doris
Delicious vegan pancakes!!! Good coffee and very friendly service. Café had a lovely atmosphere too. Thank you for having delicious vegan options!

Minimo was such a good spot for a quick coffee. The young barristor I had today was wearing tape around his wrist which was off putting. But I guess because he is crunching coffees out a rate it would do some serious damage to the skeletal segment of the hand. 10/10 would kill myself :)

Absolutely the best. Me and my partner came here for brunch on the weekend. It took ages for our food to come only because it was so busy there. We were lucky to find a table. Waitresses were so lovely and gave us free drinks as compensation for the late meal. Really delicious food. We adored the turmeric latte and the chai latte. Just a really good time. Would do it again.

I really like this place. Coffee never dissapoints and service is always top. Menu is always changing amd fresh. Prob a little pricey on some items but overall a good regular

The updated menu is great for everyone. With lots of competition popping up in the area, they are a strong standout. Definitely one of my favourites.

Nice, quaint cafe. I had poached eggs on toast and couldn't complain. Eggs were poached nicely which is important. Friend got a potato rosti which looked delicious!

Minimo is a small humble cafe standing lonesomely on the of corner Sydney road and Donald street in Brunswick. With black umbrellas our the front providing shade for the small portion of outdoor seating, this cafe create a lovely family friendly feel. The interior of the cafe although small is set out well, easily accomodating for larger family groups, though most of the seating is preferable for parties or two.

On a lazy Sunday afternoon we entered Minimo’s doors to a rather packed atmosphere with family gatherings blocking pathways due to there large obnoxious prams but none the less we where greeted by friendly staff who seated us in the conner near the window. We where presented with menus and left to decipher through the diverse extensive menu. From various different pancakes, burgers, and other delicious versatile dishes the menu certainly caters for all. After much discussion we where finally ready to order on the 5th attempt. The waitress was so lovely and patient and very helpful when inquiring into certain aspects of items on the menu. We decided to go for the mouthwatering Wagyu beef Reuben Sandwich and the old faithful Minimo’s granola with beverages being a long black and a soy Golden latte.

Our drinks arrived promptly and where exquisite. The long black was thick and aromatic with great bitter chocolatey tasting notes crafting for a perfect brew. The Golden latte being made up of soy milk, tumeric, cinnamon, pepper and ginger served with honey was by far the best I’ve tried. The latte was lovely and spicy soothing the tummy and enlightening the sense. The honey added a nice touch of sweetness but didn’t over power the flavoursome beverage.

Next to arrive was our magnificent looking meals. The Wagyu Beef Reuben Sandwich constructed with there famous grilled sour dough with Wagyu pastrami, melted swiss cheese, sauerkraut, house made tomato mayo, seeded mustard, green leaves and a dill pickle plus flat chips was flawless. The burger was a hefty size and was a struggle to finish but a meal that tasted that good one could not leave a bite left on there plate. The patty was moist and cooked to perfection. The house made tomato mayo was great paired with the gooey cheese and tangy taste from the sauerkraut. The bun was toasted well ensuring it was the best carrier for the loaded burger soaking up the juices like a sponge. The highlight would have to be the flat chips. Seasoned and sliced thinly, they where crunchy and crisp and not to oily being the greatest companion to this mighty burger.

Minimo’s granola was equally as divine being presented in an assemble yourself like fashion. The granola made up of nuts, chia seeds, grains, seeds, oats shredded coconut and dates, baked in honey and maple topped with fresh banana, strawberries and blueberries finished with a side of greek yoghurt and my personal preference of Bonsoy, was yummy and filling. To start with the generous serve of milk was much appreciated as I dislike it when cafes skimp on the milk hardly giving enough to cover the granola. The greek yoghurt was thick and creamy and once paired with the velvety soy milk poured over the crunchy sweet granola this bowl of goodness came to life. The nuts and seeds added textual crunch and the toasted coconut added a nice smokey aspect. The oats and chia seeds absorb the milk well making for a very filling meal. The granola its self was roasted to perfection and wasn’t too sweet at all. The fresh fruit on top refreshed the palate adding tartness from the tangy berries and the dried dates provided a chewy aspect.

After filling our bellies until they where about to explode we finished with a soothing soy mocha. The mocha was frothy and creamy with the perfect balance of chocolate to caffeine ratio, finishing off a very successful feed.

Minimo is a great little establishment serving immaculate food and coffee from a very extensive menu in a cosy family friendly environment. The staff are great and its not wonder this place seems to get busy as it appears its a favourite spot for locals in the area.

We order from Minimo on Uber eats most weekends (yes that's us who order the same thing every Sunday) and I can honestly say it is the best breakfast we have ever eaten.

The summer pancakes are fluffy and very well cooked, lemon curd is beautiful and the pistachio praline is to die for and poached plums are a lovely addition.

The avocado bruschetta is amazing. The pesto and basil especially put this above other standard avo breakfast dishes.

The coffee is lovely too!

Cannot say anything bad about this lovely place! 10/10 highly recommend!
Lil Miss Vegan
Just had the most delicious vegan and gf pancakes here. Really yummy and lots of other vegan options on the menu that I need to go back and try. Thanks so much for catering well for us vegans. It's a really cozy, unpretentious cafe, pretty big front outdoor area too if you have dogs.

It's my local as of November and I haven't once had a bad cup of coffee! Haven't yet tried the food but always looking forward to my weekend javas :)

May 2017 Update: Don't know what's happened but I haven't received a good cup of coffee in a couple of months here! Super weak so I've started to walk a bit further for a solid cup at another cafe :(

The gnocchi was delightfully light and the sauce was incredible! Definitely coming back to minimo, there was quick service and a welcoming atmosphere.

Another delicious brunch at Minimo. Today I enjoyed the breakfast bruschetta with poached eggs, tomato, basil and avocado while my husband opted for the Calabrese breakfast which consisted of rosemary foccacia, Italian salami, mushrooms and poached eggs. Both dishes consisted of perfectly balanced flavours and were quite hearty. We come here most weekends and, even though it's always busy, the service is prompt and friendly. We've eaten at many cafes in the area and this is definitely the best.

I've been here a few times, as the food is generally very good, with an interesting menu and specials - it seems the chef likes to be a little experimental. A recent highlight was croque madame with slow cooked pork belly. Coffee usually fairly decent, and it's a nice space with huge windows so you watch the passerbys on Sydney Road. Service is fine, although I do sometimes get a bit of a weird vibe for some reason.
Gerry Eeman
Had the "Superfood Fritters". Was absolutely delicious. Have attached a photo. I'm stunned this place doesn't rate higher on here. Nice atmosphere and they don't pump up the music like a lot of other places. I'll be back. Yum!
Good Eats
Coffee is great. The chef on the other hand, incredibly unprofessional. I was witness to his treatment and abuse of a staff member and it was uncomfortable and horrible. This was halfway through a meal, it did say anchovy dressing but it was way way to strong. Zero balance on the flavour profile, just salty creamy fish.
Hello. Imnikki
The Calabrese breakfast was delicious with just the right amount of spiciness. The serving size for the bubble and squeak was enormous! Service was welcoming and efficient. Lovely place for lunch.

Great breakfast/brunch venue, very popular among the Brunswick and surrounding suburb crowds. Delicious options for vegetarians, carnivores, sweet tooths (sweet teeth?!), or whatever else your tastebuds may favour.

Food: Baked eggs (special of the day), wouldn't have traded it for any others since it was a heart-warming dish.

Coffee: well above average.

Service: great service if you served by a chirpy, mature, petite lady. You'll never miss her!

Ambience: cosy and warm.
Burger Hunter
Really yummy food, really cosy and warm, great service from pressumably the owner and his staff :)
(However one day there was a woman behind the counter and she was going nuts at them about the internet or something)I would love to pop in and grab your amazing treats more often like an almond croissant, but I can't spend $7.5 on them.
Great place though!

I really didn't want to be harsh with this review, but I think Minimo needs a bit of constructive criticism. I walked in at midday on a Saturday and was greeted by a friendly waitress who looked a little stressed out. I took a seat as she told me she'd be with me in a minute. Ten minutes of watching her rush around to other tables as I sat menu-less made me want to chuck on an apron and help her out. When she noticed me she was very apologetic. Throughout my sitting I heard her apologising again and again to customers. Another waitress was clearing the dishes on my table from previous customers without a word, and when she came back for the rest I asked her for some eggs on toast. She was short and sharp with her words and it made me feel like I was a burden to dine there. As a waitress who has worked at incredibly busy restaurants, I understand the pressure... but the manager really needs to sort out their floor staff for a weekend morning. It was very busy, yes, but it isn't a huge place. A table of two next to me were also complaining about the lack of service. The scrambled eggs I ordered were okay - you can't expect much with scrambled eggs - but there were remnants of smoked salmon on my toast. The thought of cross-contamination in the kitchen made me feel a little uneasy about the food. Minimo needs a fair few improvements, maybe starting with a training day for floor staff and managing a roster with a bit more thought. Also, just to add, maybe putting some water bottles and glasses on tables for customers would be a slight improvement. Telling customers outside to get their own from inside isn't very comfortable. Below average experience, but can see how it could thrive if more attention to details were paid.

Yum. I've read the recent review about terrible service, but we didn't find it bad. The first time we went, the waitress was very attentive and so lovely. The second time, the young girl wasn't as friendly but it didn't make an impact on us as the food was absolutely delicious. The corn fritter are AMAZING and the Calabrese breakfast was really really really good. Will definitely be back and definitely recommend this place.
Phil
Tasty lunch / great coffee. Second visit for lunch over a couple of months. Had the pork belly roll on both occasions - currently it's the best I've had in Melbourne. Flat white coffee 9/10. Staff attentive and friendly enough. I'd visit again.
Athenaptheodore
Worst breakfast ever!!!!
Eggs over cooked
Bacon cheapest you can buy
Coffee disgusting- milk burnt
Staff rude rude rude
Never going back!!!

Done & Dusted.. Have frequented Minimo several times, the staff struggle to be nice at best however the food and coffee has always been good. Went to Minimo last Sunday for Brunch and was very disappointed with the time we had to wait, one of us did not get what we ordered due being rushed when ordering. The fact that we were 2 of 6 patrons at brunch / lunch time may be indicative of where this placed is headed.
Aberdeen
So many appealing vego options on the menu, i couldnt decide! got the special - corn fritters, which were very yum! service was very attentive despite what other reviews say, it was however a Monday and not particularly busy. have been here a few times in the past as well without complaint!
Souperman
Gone to the dogs. We couldn't help noticing the last review about the dog getting some bacon. We have complained at Minimo about staff touching, patting, feeding, cuddling or watering dogs and then NOT WASHING THEIR HANDS. It obviously continues. It is totally unacceptable and against food handling requirements and health laws.
Risks include infection, prosecution and revulsion.
Julia Gulia
Love it!. The breakfast burrito never faults! And the service is always impeccable!
Special mention to the lovely waitress who always brings my dog some bacon to tie him over!

I was greeted straight away and led to the counter to where the selection of salads, quiches and cakes were displayed.
Cafesociety
We were regulars for a long time until the service became so bad that we wondered if we were wearing a cloak of invisibility - no menus, no orders, no food .... We gave up. Recently we decided to give them a second chance and for a while things were better - but that was very short lived indeed. It is completely unacceptable - and just plain bad business - to treat ANY customer the way they do, let alone regulars. We have been consistently and completely ignored with customers arriving after us getting service/food long before we do. And what makes sense about serving take away coffees in preference to sit down customers? There will definitely be no third chances!
KC
Great. Very friendly greeting as soon as we walked in. We tried tuna parties with salad and a penne bolognese. Both were delicious

Minim I are back on track - used to be one of my favourite places, went off a little about 6 months ago.
Recently went back, food was great as was the service. Try a brownie!
Chefette10
Diner beware.... meal will cost you more if you don't pay cash...and they won't tell you either. Recently dined at Minimo. OK muesli and service but when it came to paying it would have been nice to have known that a charge of 1.9% was applied to my pay pass transaction. First time EVER that this has been applied to any transaction using this method, anywhere. Plus, my dining companion paid $7 for two pieces of dry GF toast and $4.50 for avocado on the side! Any expensive morsel. Won't be going there again.....

Having recently moved to Brunswick it was so exciting to find such great coffee served every day with a smile and good conversation. The staff in this wonderful little cafe are so friendly and the coffee is great. I've only been in Melbourne for a year but that's all it takes to turn someone into a "coffee snob," but Minimo doesn't fail to impress. I haven't yet had time to eat in this cafe but my house mate is a regular and assures me the food is amazing! And with a selection of freshly made sweet and savoury snacks in the deli counter this place caters for those wanting a leisurely brunch or those who need to grab something quick before running for the tram!
Antonio
Good coffee, friendly people. Recommended.
Gigi
Nothing Special here! Slow service, cold weak coffee, over priced food, was made to feel pressured to order more than I wanted just because I was taking up a table alone. Staff seemed to be stressed from I think the owner pushing them for second coffee sales. Not my cup of tea, A BIG never again
Flix
Great food! And great service very friendly vibe! Always very welcoming We go on a regular basis! :D
Hannah
Not on parr with its competitors. The coffee here is awful. I couldn't drink my long back and despite giving it a second and third go, it's just not on parr with other Melbourne cafes. An addition of chili on one menu item saw my poached eggs drowned in sweet chili sauce - yuk. It certainly didn't say 'sweet chili' on the menu. I find it's not at all a relaxing environment inside. Outside on the pavement is nicer, and my eggs were cooked well, but for coffee it's worth venturing somewhere else.

A delight. Minimo is an unpretentious cafe with great food and service, situated at the un-gentrified end of Sydney Road. I've been a regular there ever since I moved into the neighbourhood, and I can count on one hand the disappointing meals I've had. (Two. Out of ... well, more than I like to admit.)

What makes Minimo special is the imagination and attention to detail shown in its menu, and the high quality of ingredients. But the staff are also great, friendly and knowledgeable. The owner goes out of his way to make people feel welcome. It's a good place.
@prashiskitchen
Random Find. We found Minimo through a random walkdown Sydney road. At first I thought it was going to be pretty average but then I saw the menu.

I had the breakfast burger with some bacon and avocado on the side. The wife had the Blueberry Pancakes.

The service was great and the food was fantastic. The burger was sensational, cooked to perfection and great flavors. The pancakes with the coconut yohgurt were delicious.

I don't live anywhere near Sydney road but will definitely be back for more at minimo.

Great place. We walked into Minimo randomly one day to get something quick to eat and have loved it since! We go quite often because the food is beautiful and everyone is so friendly. You walk in and there's a good energy which makes the food even better! Such a lovely cafe, we adore it. Thank you

I live on start of sydney rd..being xmas wkend our usual 3 regular spot were close...we choose this as always full when my tram goes pass..
sat down, quickly orders oir coffees and read menu, now iam a 35 yr old male,I wanted a big plate of food, all I could see was fancy words, ordered a brekky burger at 10am saturday...
informed out of sausages,I ordered this dish named bacon steak..
its a super thick slice of bacon, with potation rosti ,a poach egg and tomato relish, seriously I didnt no how to eat it,surely bacon cant be eaten so thick and so lonely,I found my meal very salty(bacon) and not well matched. Luckily my son had a egg on toast and I was able to steal one slice, even with that I could only manage half the bacon. .
the coffee was nice
service nice, though we didnt get offered water like the tabke next 2 us..my wife pancake was nice but missing the pistachio and the croissant was nice but being sydney road u kinda expect french style croissants these days,so $64 I left hungry and had to go into a1 bakery to fill up,iam a former chef now stay at home dad, sydney rd lately has really taken off, nice cafes opening up everywhere, but personally the old say of walk b4 u can run,I feel some of these cafes r just trying to out fancy each other, each to they own they seem to be doing well, this is my 1st ever review, iam not a big going out person but lately ive tried to dine out once a week and giving these hipsters style kinda cafe a go,miss marmalade and maddox I really enjoy, same price range and in my opinion better selection...
again this is just my opinion if ur into the whole fancy word, poach egg kinda thing, pls dont listen to me.

Loved It!!. Great little cafe, very busy on weekends. Great service, great food and good coffee. Came here with 2 girlfriends for brunch and everything we had was delicious. Will be back again.
Magstar
Fab food. Beautiful fresh food that is delicious. Was happy to hear they have freshly made fruit juice that i was quick to choose. Love the food there. Going to Minimo was a lovely start to my day.
Jade
Fabulous Food. The eggs are delicious, a great variety of flavours. I am also pleased with their mochas. Not many places can make a nicely balanced mocha with strong coffee and chocolate flavours but i am happy to say Minimo has acheived this balance. The brownies are to die for. My husband bought me one home after having brunch with mates. It was so delicious I have been back on several occasions for more. Lucky I live 30 meters away. Although with all the brownies I am eating it would be better if I had to walk a bit further to get them.
Josephine
Sad. Went there 3 times, first 2 times brilliant, beautiful food and coffee. We dont live in the area it takes us 20 min to get there, but we were really excited to go there on this lovely sunday and real hungry too. we were sitting outside and this time it took suprisingly long to even get us a menu and take coffee orders -but since it was busy i understand this. but then it started: coffees took forever, we had to get in there to get someone to take our food orders. food unfortunately never came. we asked for a juice-it didnt come. everyone else around us got their juice so we asked where our juice was, answer: its busy and they probably ran out of it. we asked for water instead- didnt come, I work as a waitress myself i in a very, very large, incredibly busy venue in the cbd. this cafe is tiny,it is human to forget an order, but it ́s not cool to be left completely ingnored while everyone else around us is getting served promptly. theres only a few tables in the outside area, so even if it is real busy it shouldnt be a problem to keep track about who ordered, who is new and simply deliver some customer service, update people about the status of their order, offer more drinks etc. after sitting there for an hour we left. At east we didnt have to pay for the coffees. I dont know what was wrong this time but we felt very unwelcome and therefore probably wont be back- not feeding your customers is unfortunately an absolute no-go that my boss would probably fire me for.
Pau
Could become another regular favourite .... Ticks all the boxes ... location - very central Brunswick, but on the quieter end of Sydney Road, a sun kissed location, yes amazing eggs as most reviewers boast - they are to be boasted about ... , good coffee, ever so hospitable staff , great ambience ... and some delicious looking cake ! And house made Ciabatta served warm on the side ... cant wait to come back .... Brunswick is spoilt for the pickings ....

If you never ask, you'll never know... I visited this cafe after completing a 10 km run & I was craving an Eggs Benedict breakfast. Though it wasn't on the menu, I asked if they did it and they were more than happy to make it for me. My goodness, I can honestly say it is hands down the best Eggs Benedict I have had in Melbourne by far. Such a generous amount of food on the plate and it had an abundance of taste and cooked perfectly. Will be back for sure.
Glow Bandit
My boyfriend and I call this "The Amazing Egg Place" because they do, asyou might have guessed, the most amazing eggs. They seem to have perfected the art of poaching, and when you cut into the yolk it stays together but not in a crumbly, overcooked way, more in a perfectly cooked gooey incredible way. Highly recommend!!
Polly
Took my parents here for lunch on a weekday and we loved it. Great range of food. All deliciously made. Staff are lovely. Coffee was good too. I'll be back.
Wilbur
No Food. My partner and I went here for a nice Sunday Brunch weekend before last, great day, food looked excellent but as it never actually came out to us, I could not confirm what it tastes like.

We sat there for close to 30 minutes, happy enough in the sun but realized that people who came after us were getting served. The male waiter when asked, seems confused and unable to explain what had happened but clearly he simply did not get our order to the kitchen.

Very disappointed and no real apology or anything offered. Definite thumbs down from us and won't be back.
Michael Black
Big coffees! Brilliant!
Tina Phan
Ah the French toast here is amazing! Also the customer service here is great. Such nice people who run the restaurant. Definitely recommended to anyone who loves a good French toast to kick start the day.
Erica Stewart
Best poached eggs!. Really want to try some of the other things on the menu, but can't go past the eggs with smoked salmon and rosti. You're always guaranteed a perfectly poached egg here which I love because I can't stand it when my egg yolks aren't runny! They give a very generous serve of smoked salmon and the rosti is nicer to eat with it all than just toast. Also a generous amount of velvety hollandaise. Lovely food and very nice staff, definitely one of my favorites!
Catherine
Beautiful as always. How the eggs are poached is always my benchmark for a good brunch spot, and theirs gently poached at 60-something degrees are perfection. I only query why butter seems to be an optional extra at cafes these days. A minor concern, however. Service is always very friendly.
Joe
Organic. Hi everyone,
Just to clear things up re : annie review. We don't claim to be fully organic.
We have fair trade organic coffee, organic bread and drinks.

We thank everyone for their comments.
Tim Topham
Awesome. Best coffee in the area! Great food and friendly service. My regular :)
Mia Wallace
I regularly get my coffee from here - always great.
Friendly staff.
Bircher muesli is delicious!
Rita40t
Disappointed. The staff behind the counter is where all the action is! Waited 15 minutes before I asked for the menu. Waited anohter 15 minutes for a luke warm coffee - must say the coffee was good. Service was disappointing. I prefer to have my coffee with my meal so to have the coffee 20 minutes before the meal didnt do it for me. Sorry guys!
Rita
We went to minimo for breakfast after many months of driving past and wondering what the food was like. We dropped in last weekend. Service was nice but I could have prepared a better meal at home for us. We were told the chef "only makes poached eggs".....so I guess that's too bad if you don't like them?! Coffee was ok. My husbands bacon was grey.....won't be returning in a hurry and will stick with the Brunswick flour mill, about a km down the road.
Coburg Diner
Excellent!. Pop in here alteast once every two weeks for a coffee and a meal/cake. Coffee is excellent, food is great and reasonably priced and the service is great. I usually have to stop myself at one sausage roll!. The owners should be proud of what they created!. Not sure what Salsa is talking about in his/her review, maybe save statements like 'corporate blandness/fascism' for the university magazines or for faceless organisations...

I've lived in Melbourne for over four years now and can confidently say that Minimo is one of my top three favourite cafe/restaurants in Melbourne, and certainly sits at the very top of my list when it comes to their breakfast menu. Consistently perfect coffee every time. Their poached eggs are prepared at a very low heat for several hours, resulting in a very satisfying consistency. There is also a good choice of equally tasty options for Vegetarians. Never been disappointed and as such they have definitely got themselves a repeat customer.
Gen
Yumo. Another local favourite. Good coffee, delicious food. A little more expensive than other cafes in the area but well worth the cost. Top notch quality ingredients, flavours and decent portion sizes. Oh, and friendly staff! The only bad thing is you always leave smelling like bacon!
Blossom
Oh my gosh! Your mushroom breakfast dish is amazing!! The goats cheese is so tasty and the mushrooms with garlic was so delicious! I will return!
Michelle Hartley
Ate there for the first time this morning and it was AMAZING! Great service everybody was friendly, and the food was simply perfect. Will definatly be back :)
Patrick Malcolm
I love this place. Best coffee for miles and great food. The staff are always friendly. Claudio & his wife do a great job & should be very proud. One of my faves.
Happy Traveller
Another wonderful weekend brunch at Minimo! Coffee was great, eggs were perfect. The staff were friendly and efficient (as usual!). Definitely one of my favourite cafes on this side of town!
Erica Belli
The effort put into making the coffee is appreciated. The owner is very friendly and so are staff. Food is pricey bit good quality so u pay for what u get!

Won my vote!. Wow, from the moment I walked into Minimo I was overwhelmed. There was an aroma in the air coming from the open kitchen and as I watched the food being past to the waitress I felt my taste buds open. As the she walst past me, food in hand, she smiled as though meeting an old friend and directed me to a seat. I was on my own but felt like my best mate was serving me breakfast. She offered me a juice or coffee and hey, what the hell I went for both. A beautifully mixed fresh mint, apple and lemon(?) concuction. I ordered (upon recommendation) and when the food came out I was thown. Eggs so runny and silky. smoothered with an anchovie sauce with bacon to boot! Who makes this s**t up? It works!! It was devine. The dreaded fairies smile never lacked and I will definately be back Minimo, thankyou for such a wonderful experiance.

AWFUL, again. Last review was censored and deleted, presumably because I had mentioned things that, although highly relevant to the dining experience, were not directly related to the food. Let me therefore try again. This place is awful. I've been there three times. Like others have said, coffee and food are bland and tasteless. What really stands out about this place for me, however, is the terrible service. Something was wrong with the order every time, one time dramatically so. While that can happen in any cafe, how the cafe deals with that challenge differs. This place deals with it in the most unpleasant, rude and annoying way I've ever experienced. The staff first try to blame us, as no classy establishment would. We were fine with it and didn't say anything. Then, in a very hostile manner, different staff started asking several times "would you like " repeatedly. We said no, that's cool. Then, out of the blue, when we've almost finished and are ready to leave, what we actually ordered appears, being practically slung on the table and the waiter clearly communicating that he hates us for his own mistake. No point in going to a restaurant that stuffs up this badly. As for the other dislikeable aspects of this cafe that I'm apparently not allowed to mention, well, if you knew, you wouldn't go here, and it's disappointing urbanspoon has these editorial practices but I guess that's to be expected in these days of corporate blandness-fascism.

Try the beans. Delicious food, decent coffee, reasonable prices. I'll definitely keep going there (as long as I can get a table!)
Chockar
The eggs, holandaise sauce, sourdough bread was lovely. However, the coffee was a real let down. Overall, a great environment for lunch.

Yay!. I appreciate my review was harsh, so I have removed it. Clearly there was miscommunication between the chef and my needs. I did not see any mention of bacon and if I had, would not have ordered the dish. I found the wait excessive (the "soft, not runny" egg order was for the replacement dish), but I don't want to get into a slinging match - just wanted to keep the opinions on here honest. Your staff memeber was wonderful. Good luck in the future.

Sorry to Josiphine.. Sorry to Josephine. we were terribly busy today and understaffed. We try our very best and sometimes we make mistakes. As Josephine said brilliant most times but we drop the ball this time.

-----07 May, 2013-----

Sorry to Wilbur. We are very sad to hear of Wilburs experience. We try very hard to please our customers but sometimes we make mistakes. I have written to Wilbur to apologise and hope he gives us another chance.

-----17 Jul, 2012-----

You can't please everyone. Well I don't know of this incident however it seems the Sasa dura had a mission to write a bad review. You can see by the length and the depth of review he/ she was determined. If you read between te lines you can see my staff tried to correct the situation but Salsa dura just didn't want any of it. Sasha dura is entitled to to there opinion but my saff are never rude but a bit zelous. Thanks for you review salsa dura but have some moaners and talk to management first before you print things that may hurt someone's livelyhod.

-----26 Apr, 2012-----

Let's be truthful. Ecw. Thanks for your review. Just in our defense. First of all you did not ask for the vegetarian baked eggs and i should add they were the Anzac day special left over from the day before, thats why they were wiped off the board. You forgot to mention that we made specially for you and you were willing to wait. There was a mix up with your order because you asked for " hard boiled eggs" instead of welldone eggs. The chef is just new and we got very busy. We take pride in our cafe and food. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience hope you can forgive us and try us again.

Awful establishment. We are new to the area. First we went there in the morning for our coffee. During our coffee which took them long enough to make since it was just ours to make (the other 2 customers that were there, were already drinking coffee) the staff was sweeping the floor which made me think they didn't do it the day before at the end of the day. The dust was flying everywhere and i felt that they were so ignorant to think that it would be ok for us to breath this dust in while drinking our coffee. Second time we went in the afternoon. Our meals came over 5 minutes apart. The pie i ordered was still cold in the middle and there were 2 pieces of chicken in the whole pie. About the size of a 10c piece. Gravy did taste nice but really? What are we paying for gravy? And the chef was going on and on to his other staff about what appeared to be an annoying customer thinking that we couldn't hear him even though he was 10 meters away. Does he not realise that he himself was quite annoying to us? Des he think we want to hear that while we dine? It was very unsettling and made a really terrible impression of himself and the type of person he and the other staff are. I'll never return as i refuse to give my money to such people who thinks it's right to speak so poorly about another person the way they did. Especially when that person has chosen that cafe to spend their money. Disgusting and unappreciative. 2 thumbs down. My wife may leave a review of her own.

Minimo is Maximo!. Claudio and his wife run this coffee shop in a gracious and lovely manner. The food is really good, the menu is quite inventive and the specials are normally exciting! Coffee is great and everything I had there so far was of the highest quality and incredibly fresh. Love this place!

Worst breakfast I've ever had!!! So overpriced and there's nothing good about it. I hate this place, don't eat here!

Pricey but yum.

Poor all-rounder. When they eventually came, the drinks were nice. The food however was late and very disappointing. The pumpkin "fritters" were basically stodgy pumpkin patties with an overbearing chilli jam which just didn't go. The roasted tomatoes were actually grilled (only just) and completely unseasoned. The side of bacon was the best part about the dish. Service was lacking and I didn't appreciate being called "love" about five times while paying. Won't be visiting again.

Terrific service, great food and wonderful coffee.

Service is absolutely appalling!! The first time we went one person had finished their meal before the others arrived. We had to ask for our coffees three times before they came after we'd finished eating and were ready to leave. This was especially frustrating as multiple waitresses asked if our order had been taken. Surely it's not this hard!? After all this we stupidly gave it another go thinking it might have just been a bad day but no, same shocking service and just as disorganised. The food is ok but just not worth it. I certainly won't be back!!

Lost order, late, meal cold, rude cashier.. Minimo lost our order, 40 minutes later the trio beans turned up and where cold in the middle so I left them. Girlfriend had finished her eggs by that time. The waitress was very nice but the cashier would say sorry sir, now that will be .... (with a smug on his face),. I asked if I had to pay for the cold beans, "Yes Sir, we are busy today". I feel so stupid in paying the full amount, the good news is this is a lesson learnt.
Yum Yum
Big fan. For this area, this cafe comes as a blessing for people who love going out for breakfast/brunch. The coffee is fantastic. Menu is innovative and delicious. They have tried to take the tastes of each of the major cuisines such as Italian, Turkish and Mexican into their breakfasts, most of whom include eggs. This place also does a roaring trade due to pre-prepared lunches and coffees which can be ordered via sms.

Minimo touchdown!. The coffee is the best in the area and the food always delightful. Staff are friendly and welcome regulars and drop ins with warmth. The service is great! Now for the food!!! Always innovative, there is a regular menu with excellent breakfast plus a great selection of 'made on the day!' will not disappoint!

Great Cafe. Great cafe, one of the best in Brunswick. I have been living on the same street for the past year and go to Minimo at least once every weekend. They make awesome pies, croissants (baked there), coffee is usually perfect, and their breakfast specials are spectacular (wait for the breakfast burrito or french toast w/ ricotta). Oh, and awesome, massive brownies.

Love it!. This is my favorite brekkie place ever - try the Claudios!

Great!. I love dropping in here for lunch or just a coffee break. My 4 year old son loves coming here too - the staff are so very welcoming of children. Unfortunately it does not really have much in the way of facilities for kids - no change table, high chairs or toys, and whilst prams can fit in between tables, there is not a lot of space. But it doesn't matter because all the staff are so friendly to kids. I usually just make sure it is a short stop-off, get my 4 year old fed quickly and keep my baby in the pram.
