Review Sorrento Cafe - Brunswick

JOON LEE
I ordered a lacyose free flat white and they warned me it was double shot. It was very nice. I only started enjoying coffee this year, and never seemed to like the acidic taste of coffee, until the coffee I got here. Keep up the good work đź‘Ź

Where can you get great coffee, meet friendly staff and customers. Sorrento Cafe is the place, service is great with beautiful food and did I say the coffee was great. Keep up the great work guys. Love it all.

Excellent coffee and the service is impeccable. The brunette waitress always seems to be working, doing something. Credit to the manager. For the amount of time I see him spending with each of the girls, trying to better their knowledge. This place is run really tight knit, and the young team of three down the front seem to all have a working relationship. Don't leave here without getting Ads to make you one of Brunswick's best coffees. Will not disappoint :)

Owner seems very temperamental. One day he wants to be hospitable, the next he doesn't want to know you. Noticed that when it seems busy, he feels the need to come down to the front and "help" not realising that his stress radiates through to his staff members causing further stress and confusion as well as making customers feel uncomfortable throughout the cafe. I've been coming here for a while now for my daily coffee and have seen Adam work through a variety of different scenarios. I understand that sometimes he may need help on the coffee machine, but I would rather wait the extra couple of minutes for one of his coffees rather than have a rushed coffee from the owner. The lady's who also work here, often make great coffees, however quality can certainly drop off if it's busy. From what I've noticed, the owner works out of the kitchen... I'm just saying, I think he should stay in there where his stress does not radiate through the cafe. Adam is no doubt the best barista in Brunswick. Regardless of how busy he is, he always has time for his customers. With the ability to multi-task he always seems to be able to work away efficiently by pushing out coffee or running meals on the floor. Always manages to network with customers as well as help his team in whichever department needs assistance. Overall, this place undeniably has the fastest service, and has the strongest, cheapest and in my opinion, BEST tasting coffee in the Brunswick area. Depending who's making it... Basing my 5 Star rating on my respects for the strong work ethic and attention to detail that is provided from Adam and the girls.

Say hi to the best barrista in Brunswick, not just for the coffees, but his outstanding customer service and front of house management. This cafe has retained it's old school mojo, it doesn't change simply to follow trends, yet continues to have a solid returning customer base, good food and excellent coffee. They have a winning combination in their customer service, and are happy to adjust orders to suit the individual whenever they can.

I was greeted by a very well put together chap (clean, well mannered and spoken, and very welcoming), probably in mid twenties.

At first I hadn't completely decided if I were staying in for brunch or to continue to look elsewhere, however his warm approach to me and genuine attitude is what kept me seated.

Clearly understaffed at this point, this staff member was unbelievable. Between managing my table and atleast a further 10-12 others, inside and out, not once did I feel like I was unsatisfied with the attention and service I received. As well as managing tables, he was also what looked to be the only Barista, waiter and runner on the day (Saturday 01.02.2020)

Although he was well and truly run off his feet, I couldn't believe how little it bothered him and how his quality of service had not been altered under pressure. The coffee was 10/10, which is unheard of whilst also making take away orders and several other coffees for other seated customers. For brunch, I had the Chilli Scrambled Eggs which were fantastic.

Although, being in hospitality myself, I understand that it's not always the food or coffee that keeps customers returning, but more so the staff. If you can get the staff right and keep customers satisfied, business will only increase.

For a small business just outside the heart of Brunswick, this exceeded my expectations completely. Thank you for the delicious food and coffee, and goes without saying. To the young chap who was working this day... Thank you very much for the excellent hospitality.

I will definitely be back when I am next in Melbourne, see you soon!

Great hosts very fast service and great location. Had the burger which was way overpriced at$24 mostly bun and served in a soup bowl, who knows why making it difficult to use a knife and fork. My partner had fish which was only two mouth fulls and some sort of green leaf plant that tasted like grass. Sorry we won’t be back until more reasonably priced food is available.

Snootamere here, just wanted to address one of my favourite places on Sydney Rd. Sorrento Café. I like a place which allows a man ( or woman for all you sensitive souls on the far left ) to walk into its confines and whether he is donning a $20 tracksuit or a $3000 suit he’s greeted in the same manner.

Excellent coffee, always excellent. Good value rolls with bully ingredients ( veal cotoletta for me ). One cannot stress that enough, very good rolls. Did I mention the rolls? They are very good. Personally, I enjoy the eggs as well ( see photo )

Not a pretentious establishment. People talk and laugh......about whatever they want.

I came in here for breakfast but didn't last after ordering my coffee I asked to have it to go because I felt so uncomfortable. The cliental all seem to know each other and it was very loud and boisterous in there. What made my experience particularly bad though was watching who I assume was the owner, treating a young girl he was working alongside with absolutely no respect. He was being incredibly rude to her and telling her off for everything she did. I hate seeing this in workplaces and it made me very uncomfortable and mad. I also had another customer standing next to me while I waited at the counter who said jokingly to the owner (who I assume he knew) 'can I order her instead ;)' and rather than being horrified or apologising, the owner laughed along with him! To top it off when I used the bathroom I happened to see a room full of older men playing cards and smoking in a large back room which seemed incredibly dodgy and strange. Will not be going back.

Average. Food and coffee are pretty average, but it's cheap. The thing that pushed this cafe into a real negative was the rudeness of the staff.

Get what you pay for. This place is cheap, however the food is pretty average and the coffee tasted like it was burnt. There are better places nearby, such as the Italian place across the road. You may pay a dollar or two more but it is DEFINATELY worth it. To give the place it's dues, the staff are friendly, however the boss could learn a thing or two about manners.
Jojo
Not Bad at all!!. This place is okay, yeah there are a couple of other places on the street that are good maybe better but this one is down to earth honest and friendly.
The food might not be fancy but it is fresh and tasty.
The coffee here is good too. The place across the road that has been mentioned is way over priced and the coffee is weak even when you ask for a double shot just taste like warm milk.
The Italian place on the next corner heading towards Moreland road is very friendly and have great coffee and value for money breakfast and lunch.

Subpar experience. Took my dad and girlfriend there for brunch yesterday as a friend had recommended the place to me. The coffee was burnt and the food was cold. When My dad went to address this with the girl behind the register she was very rude to my dad. Also some creepy old men stared at my girlfriend the whole time. Considering the place was near empty was thinking that they could have done better. Next time I will go across the road.

Really? 1/5 at best!. Went there with a friend cause we saw it had good reviews. There must have been a change of ownership because the food was very poor for what you paid. The coffee was alright but the staff were pretty rude. Would give it 1/5 and that's because I'm feeling generous. Cafe across the road is much better.

A great local gem!! Love this for its no thrills decor and good value honest food. Cofee is above average . True it doesn't have an oversized cofee roaster in full display nor are there trendy vespas parked outside but if that means you aren't served by staff who make you feel like its a privelege for you to be there , them it's a price worth paying. If
you want to find where the colorful locals hang out this is a good place to start.

Cafe. Fantastic place to catch up with friends, food and coffee great and staff are awesome not many places out there make you feel as welcome as this place.
This is diffinate a place to try and hangout.

Cheap n cheerful! Most local hipsters probably couldn't get past the not so trendy look of this place. But it has very reasonable food options, dare I say even cheap. Hardly chef inspired but good quality and tasty enough. And the coffee is above average. The staff are one of the best parts, genuinely friendly and accommodating...something nearby Jellystone cafe could certainly learn from.
