Review Red Chilli Sichuan Burwood - Burwood

Ivan Teo
Used to be good. Now it's nothing special. The other Malaxiangguo Chinese restaurant makes better and cheaper dishes.
Dat Fish
Great place to eat if you love spicy food. Almost every food on the menu here is spicy, despite it all being spicy food, each dish all have their own unique taste to it.

Of the many Red Chilli branches this place is quite decent in terms of size and quality. Food cane out quick and fast.

Absolutely recommended for anyone who likes a good kick of sichuan pepper and chillies.Every dish in this very conveniently located restaurant is worth a try.

When things first come out its normally good, and this restaurant was good when it first came out. The noodles were at a perfect chewing texture and the fatty pork with vegetables was absolutely delicious. But things change. The last time I went there, the ratio of the vegetables and the pork was hideous. It was like 20 pieces of vegetables or melons up against this 1 small pork piece. Normally I would easily grab it form the pile because there had been so many, but it was different. There was barely any, they started cutting food so they could earn more. When I had the noodles, there was so much oil and fat and it made my appetite die out. It was full of grease. If this restaurant comes back, I hope it will be much better compared to the last time I went here.

Highly recommended this place for anyone who likes a numbing taste of Sichuan pepper and chilies. We ordered Lamb Ribs and Chili Chicken, both dishes were awesome. Love the taste and presentation. Staff was very nice too.

This was the first time trying Sichuan food and I was impressed. One to visit with Chinese friends as service was attentive and serving size was quite generous. Tip for first-timers: go mild or you’ll be in for a long night (and next morning)!

Good spicy Chinese food. Average service though.

I had bits of fried duck with some stuff in a rich sauce - not much duck meat, mostly just bits attached to the bones, so I don’t think it deserves the premium duck pricing (serves are big but seem to cost more than similar food in the city). The flavour was so rich and spicy though. Combined with the Sichuan fried rice, it wasn’t super spicy but built up over the meal to a deep, warm heat slowly burning the entire mouth in a very pleasant manner.

The food is amazing here, particularly the stir fry lamb ribs (almost every table in the restaurant ordered one), so moorish, perfect with a beer. The hot & spicy pork dumplings and green beens were delicious as well. Shame that the service was average & the amenities were bit run down, (the toilet door lock was broken, no toilet paper).

Nice place opposite to Burwood Westfield. Good place to hang out with ftiends and family. Also good for couples. Foods are tasty. Portion was good. I felt foods are a little bit expensive.

This restaurant has an extensive menu which includes photos for reference. The staff are young and attentive. We ordered the broccoli, eggplant without mince, green beans without mince and a meat dish for my family. All the food came out really fast, hot and fresh. Portions were decent and the dishes were presented nicely.

I've always liked this restaurant and always get the cold dish beef with tongue and tripe in chilli sauce, it is a bit spicy for me but it is so delicious. It is best to order steamed rice to go with the dish as the flavors are very intense.

Today, we also had the sichuan style fried rice as well as the pork and chive dumplings. The fried rice was average, I couldn't really taste anything unique or the sichuan influence. The dumplings had a nice thin skin and well seasoned filling. If you like, you can take the sauce from the cold beef dish and eat it with the dumplings, which is super yummy.

I'd recommend to come here with a group so you can try many dishes.

Also, the most recent time I came to this restaurant, they now charge per person for tea. If you don't wish to be charged, you can decline the tea.

Pratical chinese eating. such bright white lights feel like your in a hospital. But the fish is to dieeee for, forget about health as its swimming in oil but its yummmyyy.. Another dish that was freaking amazinggggg was the eggplant.loveee at 1st taste.

The staff is amazing tooo vvv helpfulll.

Noodles with prawns was a major let down.DO NOT ORDER. The prawns stir fry was ok too.not worth a try. The mushroom bokchoy was saved only by shitake mushrooms.

Tasty food!! Right amount of chilli in the cold entree dishes (forgot to take a photo), interesting texture in the yolk coated corn, and the sour fish soup was simply delightful!!

Horrible customer service experience. Been here for the first time. I used to wonder why people stick to the same restaurant and now I am clear about it.

I love red chilli Sichuan restaurant. I literally licked my lips for 9 days and 9 nights after eating the 'Lamb ribs with cumin seasoning' to try and extract any remaining trace of that flavour from my pathetic excuse for a moustache.

The dan dan noodles weren't on the menu as far as I could tell but I asked for them anyway and what I got back for $12 (ish) was a Bowl big enough to was a human child in filled with damn good noodles and damn good soup. They should change the name to Damn Damn noodles coz that's how good they are and they made my lips all tingly too, like when Demi Moore's character kissed Patrick Swayze's character in the movie where he was a ghost. SPOOKY.

Ordered some other stuff too like the kung pao chicken. Twice. 🔥🔥
Maccarone Jen
Portions were big. Dry chilli chicken was really tasty but unfortunately it got lots of MSG. I believe it would still be tasty if they put less or no MSG

Quick service, had little trouble communicating to the server, food was great. Cold noodle, Chicken with chillies and chopped onion pancake was great, stir fried noodles and spring rolls were usual. Now on my favourite restaurant list!

This restaurant serves very authentic Sichuan food. Foods are very flavourful, portions are generous and prices are fair. Service has always been friendly and quick. Overall a great place to have dinner if you're feeling like spicy food!

Had a mouthful in the Canberra branch of the restaurant, this one in Sydney is no difference. Gotta love the enthusiasm displayed by the staff, who sped their way to deliver what we asked for.

.first,in terms of food, the restaurant offers a variety of dishes, which are sorted according to their origin.for example,if you want to eat Sichuan cuisine, there is a special menu and a cook who specialize in sichuan cuisine.so it is with other regional cuisines.i like this restaurant also because of its environment.whenever you go to there it is clean and various decorations are always thoughtfully arranged in different places.nonetheless, the service there is really excellent.all the waiters and waitresses are well-trained in manners and tricks like juggling plates and cutlery.
Lollipop
The food is cheap here, n can enjoy such the great taste of meal here, the shop just feel like home, good for a family's happy time, haha!!!

Authentic Sichuan dishes with high quality ingredients. Service is on par with the high standard of the dishes served. I have only tried the GungPao chicken and a few side dishes here, but it is fantastic. the restaurant is very authentic, as far as I can tell
Emily
The food is pretty good and the cold dish is gorgeous and the taste is exactly what I have been looking for, so grateful for this amazing food, and the waiters are so nice, NB:don't miss the hot pot fish!!!!😋

I am a big fun of Szechuan food, we came for a birthday celebration, the food was very good but is oily. The service was nice, would return again.

No words could be used to describe the stunning food and the considerate service except one word: wonderful. I really fall in love with this restaurant, especially for its food which makes me mouth watering and the reasonable price.
Fooodisluxury
the shop looked pretty small and but it gave us all the power from the chilli. They had lots of shops across from Australia and this is the oldest one. It was pretty good and mapo tofu is so good to go with the rice!

I had dinner here last time I traveled to Sydney. It is located in a busy Chinese community area and this one is very authentic Sichuan restaurant! Very delightful food and good service
Kaka
I had hot pot beef last time here and it was just very good! Hot oil on the chili flakes just brought all the flavour out! Chef just nailed it

Me and my mates went to this restaurant last night being told they are very good in authentic Chinese cuisine so we decided to try it out.

First, the atmosphere is warm and there are funny artworks hanging on the wall, colours are eye drawing although I am not big fan or arts.

Shuman Jiang
I like this food and service. and I like the hot pot beef/ hot pot fish is very good.

I think I will go to this restaurant again. maybe I will try the different foods.

I love this place! I came here for a birthday dinner. The dumplings were my favourite. But all the dishes are great, you can taste all the flavours of the food. The staff are friendly and the service was speedy! Make sure you get there early so you don't have to queue up :) I will definitely be returning!
Yingying Shu
Enjoyed Chinese dim sums here.

Shrimp dumplings, wonton with chili oil and boiled bums are really tasty!

Chinese flower tea here is also highly recommended.

I had dinner here last night with my girlfriend and it was a great meal, very attentive service and just like the Perth Chillie's - very attentive service. I dont normally eat at "chain style" restaurants however this is a little jem.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Jun Chen
Strongly recommend due to very delicious food and warm service. Although there are so many restaurants in Burwood, this restaurant could be ranked top one of all the restaurants.
Chris
recently I went here for dinner at least once a week, but I still haven't finished trying all the dishes I want to have, I found those waiters are more and more quality and their services are very enjoyable. Love this place, highly recommend to all of you!
Yu
For those who like spicy food, this is the best place go. Everything we ate was delicious and fresh. Especially Ma Po Toufu, spicy n numb. The services were good and kind. Best recommended

So many cold drinks I can choose. Cold drinks is the best choice when you try spicy food, especially when you come across the bloody hot day.

Had a great experience dining at Burwood Red Chilli . The menu was exciting and colourful, the space had a funky atmosphere and the service was friendly. Awesome taste of chef special fish fillet and so many options to choose. I can't wait to go back again.

I went to there tonight with my friend who really like spicy food and we have a great night at this Sichuan restaurant. I highly recommend HOT POT BEEF for some people if you also like spicy food. The good thing is they can make adjustment according to your taste.

Chinese traditional food in ChiChuan. It tastes very good because of spicy fish and beef! As a Chinese, most western food are not suitable for me. I still love Chinese food especially fish and vegetable. Some specially vegetable only can be found in this restaurant!
Sam Zhang
Amazing and attentive service with great knowledge of the menu. So many wonderful options to choose from. The red chill fish tasted perfect.

The Hotpot Beef made by the Chefs here is always so fresh and tender, would love to eat it everyday! The Deep Fried Chilli Chicken is one of the most loved of people who favour chilli food. As the Chef's Special Fish is brought to the table, the beautiful smell and appearance catches your attention immediately. Also the customer service is very good, as you enter the restuarant, you feel welcomed by the whole store, feeling like a boss yourself^_^RedChilli Red Chilli

I really think Redchilli is the best Sichuan restaurant in Sydney! The food is Authentic and excellent like their chiefs special fish, kongpao chicken. This restaurant offers different spicy level with a cute chili mark in their menu🌶️🌶️, and customer can choose the level, thats so sweet😘BTW their staff go out of their way to accommodate for us and their service is brilliant. Also, the price point is fantastic. I have been going to redchilli for several yrs and I have never been disappointed.
Definitely a thumbs up👍, today many restaurants lose the original tastes of their food while searching for innovation, however at Red Chilli you could actually taste such traditional flavours, I really think the Chef's Special Fish is delicous! Dishes that I would also recommend are: Salted Egg Yolk Prawns, Sea Cucumber with Assorted Vegetables, Hotpot Beef, Deep Fried Chilli Chicken, Crystal Noodles with Pork Mince and much more, and also their new dish "Delicous Chicken with Sichuan Chilli" unfortunately they don't sell beer otherwise the chicken and the beer would be perfect, however you can still bring your own alcohol. If you really want to challenge yourself in eating spicy you can ask them to make the dishes extra spicy, the taste is so good, if you don't eat spicy, you can also ask for the dishes to be made non spicy, the customer service is not bad! Overall giving a thumbs up hahaha

The different from the two red chilli restaurants in city, Burwood shop is a little bit smaller than others. However, the food is not bad, my family really enjoy our dinner. Service could be better. LOL

Recommend! The taste, the customer service, the surroundings ,the price . You won't be regretful to eat here, the chief comes from Sichuan , the chill comes from Sichuan, which is famous for spicy food .

Been here few days ago, some new dishes are delicious and attractive, something called tomato fish. Really amazing spicy dishes were offered, and my whole family enjoyed that meal. Hope to eat there again.
Unvenomous
honestly, i am a Sichuan food lover and tried all their shops in Sydney. this shop not as good as their other beaches. but still a place when you hunting gourmet and special cuisine in Burwood area.

very good place to go eat. Handy for Burwood right opposite the Westfield entrance. Good range of dishes from just tasty to very very hot. Always seems popular which is a good sign.

If u like spicy food, this restaurant could be your best choice. If u don't like spicy food, this restaurant can make u like spicy food. With times of having dinner in this restaurant, I noticed that I cannot eat something not spicy, even I was a person who would like mild taste, since I was born in South of China. Especially the "boiled fish", it is very delicious. Besides, the waiters are enthusiastic to serve u. I would say it is the best sichuan food restaurant in Burwood.
Aubrey Liu
In fact, Im not the person really enjoy the spicy food, or even to say I cant stand it!So I got no interest to this restaurant until I went here this time. the staff told me that there were also plenty of dishes which were not spicy. following his recommendation I ordered a kung pao chicken(I told him just a little bit spicy)and a sweet beef(I forget the name) and my friends choose other spicy dishes as they like. and this time,it changed my mind that this restaurant also make non spicy food as well!and it reaaaaaaaly fits my taste this time. love their recommendation and service, maybe I will go there again by my self bravely~wowowowow

The food is amazing, serving food incredibly fast and delicous, totally flexible personal preferences of flavours and ingredients. I don't really eat spicy food and some of my friends don't eat pork, however there was a great variety of spicy to non spicy dishes which meant we had a lot of choice, we also asked for different ingredients to be added to the dishes, the waiters and chefs served us with great manners, they were very helpful and welcoming which made us want to visit again. The dishes were very delicous, some recommended are: Chef's Special Hotpot Fish, Mapo Toufu, Kungpao Chicken dices, Salty egg yolk pumpkins and any other dish on their menu:D

It's an absolutely wonderful place. The spice and Sichuan cuisine was an sensation to taste. This is the prefect place I'd recommend if u want to have a spicy food tour. The service and attitude pleased me.

good restaurant ! nice food ! good services ! i love hot pot beef in this restaurant. Very authentic Sichuan Chinese food, food serves .!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dora Chi
In my opinion, the food is very spicy. I love the pumpkin very much because of it is very crunchy and help reduce the spicy felling on tongue.
Louise Zheng
Very authentic Sichuan Chinese food, food serves quick and it also makes less spicy dishes for me to handle. Hahahaha! If u don't eat chilli and its a date, DON'T GO! But definitely worth going to try!

My wife is a Sichuan woman and I am 5th generation Australian. We came to Sydney 6 weeks ago on business and again this weekend. We live in Australia but travel to China regularly. We lived together for 6 years in China. After the preamble my point is this restaurant is authentic Sichuan food and very good from our two visits and we will return.
People talk about poor service and many other trivialities but the food is spicy and tasty and bloody good. if you don't like hot , spicy, tasty food then don't go.
The whole fish is to die for. We had it both visits. Depending on the catch of the day the price varies but we enjoyed it both visits also the noodles, vegetable dishes. We felt like we were in Chongqing.
Good luck.

Pollo_pesce_me
I love red chilli Sichuan restaurants. Ordered take away fish fillet in chilli oil. The fish fillets were cooked beautifully and it was spicylicious. I could do with a little more peppers though!
Food Hunters
Today's a hot humid day so what better way to whet the appetite than the punchy, spicy food from Sichuan province? The air con is on full blast as we get ourselves off to a decent start with preserved eggs with green chilli. There is a kick in the green chilli seeds, but it's tolerable. I was also impressed by the head waiter, who wore a cordless earpiece like a total boss. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, this place was positively teeming with service personnel. Next came the cold potato noodles which, though refreshing, were sadly wilted by overcooking and lacking the required crunchy texture. But it was the signature Sichuan dish, fish hot pot, that really disappointed us, swimming as it was in chilli oil inches deep. The egregious use of oil was bad enough, but it was the absence of Sichuan peppercorns in this dish that really had me scratching my head. It's like roast beef without gravy. Or fish and chips without a squeeze of lemon juice. A sign promoting the Sichuan peppercorn as central to Sichuan cooking takes pride of place on the restaurant wall and stares mockingly at me throughout the meal. The price of $50 for two is in the higher price range, and in a suburb with stiff culinary competition, such prices for this level of quality is really hard to stomach.

If you can handle really "spicy" food and don't mind waiting/takeaways then this is your place. Service is average at best. Wait staffs always look busy and overwhelmed.

Loved their classic Kung Pao Chicken (still do) and Hot Pot Fish Fillet with spicy sauce and Chinese cabbage (not so much anymore). Would also recommend the Chef's special fish.

Please be aware that the price is a higher than your average chinese food. They must have considered themselves fine dining place.

Bottomline : Good food. Average service. Average value for the quality.

This place always seems to have so many customers. We were fortunate enough to squeeze in a table for two upstairs. I was definitely excited as I love spicy food. My wife and I both can handle our chilli so we were determined to get some spicy dishes. What I probably didn't know about Sichuan Chilli at the time is how the chilli effects is.. it's more numbing rather than burning like other chillis. I actually don't like he feeling. You lose feeling in your lips and tongue and yea just unpleasant. The food was nice though. The service (being asian) was quite decent. We got rushed a bit to make our order and the staff were always too busy to kinda notice you at times... but if you're that busy its understandable... or hire another person. I definitely would recommend a try if you do love chilli... it's not like habernero where the burn is hot and the flavour is smokey... which is what I definitely prefer.

Hello chilli lamb! Succulent chilli lamb chop is a must & it falls off its bone, it will however leave you really thirsty after you eat this dish, but what the heck.. It's worth it! Baby it's worth it..

this restaurant is good, nice peaceful setting, I had the spicy lamb meat, very good, will come back for more.

Service is good and fast. Good value for money too.

Love it. Have been going for years. Love this place. It is definitely better than the Chatswood one. The Haymarket one is good too, but it depends on who the chef is on the night. The Burwood one has been consistent over the years.

So many great dishes, chilli, spice and massive amounts of flavour. Never tire of it. Salivating right now as I'm writing this review. Might go tomorrow for a chilli hit :)

My favourite. Delicious, inspiring, authentic cuisine, reasonable price, friendly and reliable service. Thumbs up!!!

Not Recommended. The basa we ate yesterday in the dish (boiled fish with bean sprouts in hot chilli oil) is not fresh and comes with wired tastes. We will not go to this one any more. With this price, they should provide better quality food than other $10 dishes Chinese restaurants.
Lidya Loe
Good food, good service. We visit this restaurant almost every fortnight. Love the fried chicken with dried chili, kungpow chicken, beef tripe (cold dish), beef with cabbage in chili oil, mapo tofu, green beans with mince pork, pork hot pot and the noodle in hot chili sauce (another cold dish).
Sydneyguyrojoe
Recommended!!. After reading that some food bloggers were finding even 1 chilli rated food was too much I was a bit scared to try anything spicy here. A bunch of us came and ordered various dishes and everyone was impressed, even my friend Chris who is a harsh critic enjoyed it also. It wasn't as spicy as I thought I tolerated the 1 chilli rated food and I have weak resistance to spicy hot food.

Ambience wise, its a little cramped, they do have a upstairs area but thats small too. Nil issues with service, the waitress was polite and quick to serve us, the food came quicker than expected.

Value wise its ended up to be $22 for each person (7 of us) which is good with the amount of food we ordered though portion sizes are average size, either that or I didn't notice how big the portions were because food didn't last long on the plate! A great experience!

Good sechuan food. Be prepared for a spicy hot attack on your palate. Try the Kung Pow chicken. Recommended.
