Review Xi'an Eatery - Burwood

Jenny Qian
Handmade noodles are sold here and they are actually well made! The thick, signature noodles were quite nice as long as you made sure they were dipped in/submerged in the sauce/soup. If not, they were quite dry and sticky (but we were warned about that). The other fried noodles were pretty good but not particularly better than other noodle places I have previously tried. The serving sizes were pretty large. Service was decent but just be aware that water is self serve and it’s a bit difficult to get when the restaurant is busy and you’re sitting in the opposite corner (just because it is quite a cramped space). Not a bad place, and it is nice that the noodles are handmade!

Yum! Such a hidden gem in burwood. I stopped eating at these type of places for a while now since I went vego, but have discovered that this place does pretty tasty vegetarian/vegan options. I highly recommend getting their biang biang noodle. Super thick and chewy, just the right texture and consistency. Their eggplant and potato capsicum was also delicious. Overall, a pleasant experience. The lady at the counter couldn't speak English very well but she tried her best to speak to me using a translator. She was very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend trying this place out, especially if you're vegetarian and missing some good Xian food!

Had the signature pork biang biang and fried dumplings. The texture of the noodles was ok, however the dish itself could have been more flavourful (wasn't salty or spicy enough for me). The dumplings had nice flavour and a nice skin. Service was decent and friendly enough so no complaints there (could be some possible communication gaps but they did try their best which was good enough). We arrived around 9 so they ran out of spinach biang biang, however, that was ok as we’ve had spinach biang biang from here before and we thought there was not much difference in taste anyway in comparison to the standard biang biang.

Walked in knowing there was plenty of seats available. Staff told us to wait outside, 5 minutes past...and then 20 mins. A couple behind told us to just go in and sit as they too were frustrated. Eventually we all sat down, didn't need to look at menu as we all decided what to get to save us time and get food cooking. I understand they were busy, I saw 3 ladies work a fairly busy night, but not too busy as there were seats free. Would appreciate if someone could stay on the floor and greet customers - at least sit them down and get comfortable. I'm at the counter ordering food and the lady told me to wait another 20 mins as they were prioritising uber eats and prior customers who were complaining about service. Waited patiently and eventually ordered food that came pretty fast - which is good. Meat skewers were tiny for the price, soup was oily but the dumplings were delicious. I hope there is some kind of improvement in the future, particularly in customer service and management.

Soft noodles, dumplings were nice!!! Big portion. If you are looking to try handmade noodles type restaurants, try this one.

Okay food but terrible service, it took over 5 minutes to order anything. I think it was partly because their system went down and they seem to be understaffed. So I'll give them some slack and update the rating in future if we try this place again. In the span of 30 minutes this happened; A hungry panda delivery guy got given the wrong order and was gaslit when he came back to complain. An Indian family ordered tea but they ran out of tea (they still got charged for the tea but idk if they made it right with them). 3 people wanted to order but were told twice to hol up a minute (they waited 10 minutes just to order before leaving in frustration). 2 girls sat down but didn't know where or when to order because the lady spoke mandarin to them. 2 different people got takeaway but the waitresses don't even seem to know what their orders were and relied on the Easi order numbers. We ordered the biang biang with pork. It was nice to have a variety of toppings but I was expecting only meat and more of it. The dumplings were nice enough.

The food was quite nice but the service was unfortunately lacking and a bit rude. We got the biang biang noodle and pork dumplings for under $30. When I went to order they were having some technical issues I think, I got asked my order and started saying it then the lady just rushed off shouting to someone in the back. This happened another two times where I was asked my order but then told to wait. It was quite frustrating and if I wasn't so hungry I would have left. The food was quite nice when we got it, the dumplings were very tasty. Because of the issues ordering I saw two groups of people just leave after waiting for a few mins standing at the counter. Not sure what was going on or if it was a once off, but the service was quite chaotic yesterday. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and vibrant.

This is my first time to write a google review. But we are disappointed with the service and food! The cutlery was dirty, the staff made a wrong order and the rice was cold. We tried to talk with the owner about the issue, but the owner did not show up. We didn’t ask for the refund, but we will not return again.

The mvp of this place are the biang biang noodles. Particularly the spinach one. Fantastic flavours with the toppings and cooked to a perfect al dente texture. The chewiness is amazingly good.

I would recommend getting takeaway as the service is questionable at best. We had to ask for cutlery, no table water given nor any napkins/tissues in sight.

Get the noods and skip the rou ga mou.

Delicious, hearty Biang Biang noodles with an amazing texture! I’ve been here quite a few times just for their signature Biang Biang noodles. The noodles are fat and silky with a nice chewy bite. They also have some other great side dishes that are nice to eat the noodles with and satisfies my Chinese food cravings 😋

I was quite excited to try Xi’an Eatery but was sadly disappointed. Their traditional noodles (what they are known for) were bland and far far too thick. It was like eating chewy dough. If you like spicy food, the fried chilli chicken is numbing. The pulled pork buns are, however, delicious! #xian #chinesefood #noodles #chillichicken
Sweet And Sour Fork
The Signature Xi’an Biang Biang Noodles ($12.8) are what I’m really here for however, and this one looked every inch the part. Nestled in the deep bowl was a swath of noodles, the broad ribbons hidden by a melange of toppings. Mix it all together, and it forms a delectable blend that has a little bit of every taste across the spectrum, the spice and salt balanced out with just a hint of mouth-watering tanginess.

Ordered for delivery through EASI, Food came 2 hours late, and half the order was missing. Xi'an Eatery was extremely rude and unhelpful when called about the issue and would not give a refund or resend the food.

Post pandemic lockdown eat out. This first one did not start off too great. The first mistake is perhaps ordering sichuan food in xi’an restaurant. The sauce is great for the chicken but the chicken is almost rock hard. Devil egg tofu got almost rock hard devil eggs. The sauce has very strong MSG taste, I see undissolved MSG too. The tofu great though. The fish has a rather generic chilli oil broth and the batter is waaaaay too thick. @Xihuahua 🐶 vowed to never order bad chuan food again. I believe the xi’an food should be great here. Their cumin beef rou ga mo is pretty nice.
Jian Zhang
Good food, spicy level perfect and friendly service. What more can you ask for at the prices they charge.

Dependable quality of food. Friendly service and cheap. Great atmosphere (when dining in). Eating there at least twice a week for the past 6 months. Delivery service prompt and friendly. Never miss a beat.

This place has always been a favourite of mine. They have the best biang biang noodles in my view. I've tried many other places and they always remind me of the biang biang noodles I had when I was holidaying in Xi'an. Had this banquet delivered to my place last night (can't believe they actually come this far north). What a great change from home cooking. Can't wait for this covid 19 to be over and for them to be open again. Keep up the good work !!

Are you serious? I know it's a hard time, but NO SALT? NO VINEGAR? ARE YOU A RESTAURANT OR A BAKERY? Bought BiangBiang noodles today. WAS a huge fan. NOT anymore. I have ALWAYS asked for chilli oil and NEVER received any oil, only the chilli pieces which I CAN'T mix with the noodles and I CHOKE on them.

But no seasoning at all? THAT'S A NEW LOW!

A favourite of mine that i've been going to for the past few months and how that we're all in lock down i was surprised to find out that they are deliverying all the way to the Baulkham Hills where i am every wednesday and saturday. Can you believe it.. my favourite restaurant is delivering from Burwood to the Hills. That's what call customer service. Although the food is what i mainly go there for. Needless to say the biang biang noodles are excellant and are a staple favourite of mine along with the fried pork cube noodles and pan fried dumplings. Last night my wife went for some other items. Check out my pics. Taste was excellant and as you can see we've got dinner for tomorrow night covered too. Fast service and driver can on time and left food at my front door after ringing the bell.. great service at this covid 2020 time. Will be coming back for more... as soon as we finish this lot.

PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HYGIENE.

Ordered takeaway from this place today and one of the items I ordered was a pulled pork burger. After ordering I went down the road to pick up some other snacks. On the way back to the store I saw the lady that served me running all the way down the block and around the corner. When she returned to the shop she was holding a pulled pork burger, which she then proceeded to put into my bag. She gave a customer the wrong item and chased him all that way and gave the item to me afterwards. That is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING especially during these times. Complete lack of concern for hygienic practices. Furthermore when I pulled her up on it she proceeded to deny what she had done until I said that I saw her she smiled and said "okay okay" like a child being caught doing something wrong. All she did after that was take the burger out and put it in another paper bag and gave it back to me. Needless to say I threw it away. Will never be back AND will make sure all family and friends know to stay away from this disgusting excuse for a restaurant.

A mid-week catch up with a friend I hadn’t seen in months brought us to the heart of Burwood to try out Xi’a eatery. The good ratings had us choose the spot, and I will be honest I didn’t look up the menu beforehand to make up my mind on what to order - so yes, I was pretty excited to choose spontaneously.
Gagan Jalandhra
Deliciously chewy hand-made noodles. The biang biang are a must-try!
HaK
Unfortunately there is no pork to be seen in the noodles with "cubed pork". We asked them where the pork was, and they forgot it..they then took it back to the kitchen to add tiny slices of pork..wish I took a photo. We paid mainly for cheap oily noodles without pork. Photo and description on menu is misleading.

*If you are VEGETARIAN or VEGAN, be cautious*

I ordered the spaghetti cubes and asked if it could be vegetarian. It was confirmed to vegetarian. When the waiter brought it over, he said 'vegetarian spaghetti cubes'. Whilst I was eating, I found pieces of meat. It wasn't one piece. It was many. I had told the staff and they only apologised and we had to pay for this dish. We had other dishes that was meant to be vegetarian, and they were fine. But knowing that I was a vegetarian, they should have been more cautious. I left the restaurant in tears and couldn't finish my food. I couldn't stomach the fact that everything else could have meat in it. It was embarrassing having to leave a restaurant crying and having to pay for something that I did not ask for, on top of having my morals undermined. Yes, there was a risk in eating at a restaurant that serves meat, but the fact that the staff was fully aware of the situation and poorly empathic just shows what this restaurant values.

I will not be returning again, and I hope that people who are vegetarian and vegan are very cautious if they choose to eat here.

Whenever I think of this place - I always think of their Green Spinach Noodle! Similar concept to Biang Biang Noodles, except the noodles is made out of spinach! Right amount of spiciness. I love how they add meat, eggs and vegetables into the bowl. Definitely rate this a 10/10!!!!! Perfect for everyday dinner!
Meowktail
Modern Chinese interior with a nice wooden furnish. Service is very nice as they patiently explained the vegetarian options for my friend. Ordered the Cold noodles, Scallion pancakes, Stir Fried eggplant
Cold noodles were chewy, good hit of chilli
Scallion pancakes were okay - a bit too flour-y
Eggplant was really nice - liked the stir fry and potatoes

The signature noodles are delicious accompanied by the chilli sauce they have on the table. We also had one of each burger and the pulled pork was a let down with little to no flavour. The beef burger tasted better but was still quite weak.

If you love super flavourful, aromatic and spicy Chinese food, this place is the place for you! We ordered the lamb skewers (not pictured), pork and chive dumplings, pulled pork burger, Sichuan fried chicken and biang biang noodles. Each dish was filled with so much flavour but not too overwhelming. If the spice wasn’t enough for you, you could always dip more in the chilli sauce! The service was quick and based on how busy it was on a Monday night, it’s definitely a popular place. The lamb skewers had a nice curry flavour; the noodles soaked up all the sauce; chicken was perfect mini size with good amount of spice, and dumplings were oozing with flavour. The only thing I do want to mention is how oily each dish was. Everything was drenched in oil (a bit too much!), but I’d still go back and try more!

I have now visited both Biang Biang Noodles and Xi’an Eatery and I honestly like this place so much more! I tried their signature noodles and it was simply delicious. Nice pull and chewiness to the noodle strand and the meat wasnt as powering. The chilli jam in the noodles was just right! Also ordered the pork burger and some pan fried dumplings, all for a total of $30 for 3 people! Definitely coming back!!
Jasmine
Tried their signature noodle dish and it did not disappointed. Noodles were nicely done, got a bite to it which I enjoyed. Sauce was good with many toppings. The dumplings were pretty good, juicy fillings!!
Manda
Really enjoyed the food here. We got thebiang biang noodles which were soft and chewy with just enough chili to give it a bit of a kick but not too overpowering. The burger was pleasant. Lamb skewers were a little disappointing- a lot smaller than anticipated but otherwise good spices and flavours. Will definitely return

Came in early, only one other customer. Ordered one dish. It was not put through. Asked for our dish, they said they would make it asap. Meanwhile, 3 other full tables were being served before us, customers who had come many minutes after us. Disappointing service gives a bad taste that you can't get rid of. Noodles were mediocre and not of great value. Won't be back.

Xi’an eatery is popular for their signature xi’an biang biang noodles which is a handpulled noodle dish served with chilli oil and pork. The noodles here are truly amazing. I’ve come here twice now for those noodles. The texture of the noodles are pulled to perfection, they’re firm with the right about of elasticity. Something about those noodles, once you take your first slurp of these noodles, you’re left wanting more! The noodles themselves aren’t overly spicy and well balanced with egg, tomato, potato and tofu. Well worth you’re money and a must try if you want to try pulled noodles!
Sims_gh
We had the Biang Biang Noodles, the Hand-Pulled Noodles, Cold-Skin Noodles and the Rougamo (the "Chinese Burger" - can't remember what it's called on the menu). It was freaking excellent. Noodles were perfect in texture and taste. So far the best noodles i've had. Excellent prices for what leaves you very very full.

The Aunty was really nice and helpful when I didn't know you had to mix the ingredients of the Biang Biang Noodles too!

Can't recommend enough.
Hangrylittlelisa
Spicy spinach hand-pulled Biang Biang Noodles with egg, tomato, pork, potato cubes, tofu. Soooo satisfying to slurp down these moreish noodles. Last time I had these was in Xian and they are almost on par! Noodles were just slightly thicker. They definitely use MSG or something though as I was thirsty as for the next 5 hours :(

I've been to chongqing and another pulled noodle place in burwood (hardly comprehensive, in a city that is essentially Chinatown) but this one takes the .. Noodle?

The flat noodle dish (spinach noodle and the other one- pictured) are amazingly chewy and delish, topping is on the healthier end but at this point, who cares even the noodles are made by god himself?!

Gyoza and other dumplings - nothing special, ashfield does then way better

Runaway chicken- crunchy, tasty, tongue numbing (literally numbing), we had a lot of fun watching each others expressions as we ate the numbing spices with varying levels of success

Oily spicy wonton soup- alright, could've used more spice

On the hand pulled noodles and chicken alone, i give this place 5 stars, sorry not sorry! I don't think you have to like an entire menu to taste 5/5, since you'll never order the entire menu anyway

Price- 6 people spent $20ea, reasonable bang for buck here! We all got drinks too

Service decent, though place is small and clientele take their timeeee, it's noodles dammit, eat faster (but seriously, worth the 30m wait for 6 people- would've been like 15m if 2-3pp).

Probbb would be annoying to come on a weekend with any more than 3-4 people

Ps the mango beer sucks due to use of hennekin and not a less pungent beer

I regret posting this review, and thereby making this place more packed and the queues longer 😂

Made a good choice to come to this restaurant. The restaurant is nice and clean. The portion is really big and the price is very reasonable. It costs us $40 for 2 main and 2 side dishes. The cold noodle salads and the handmade flat noodle (biang biang noodle) are so delicious and full of flavour. I would like to go again : )

I ordered the Shredded pork tribe in chilli sauce ($8.80), Biang Biang noodles ($12.80),
& Pan fried dumplings ($9.80), shared between 2. I’m impressed with the cost of the dishes at Xi’An eatery, everything was definitely well priced.

Our favourite were the signature noodles, you can definitely tell the quality of the noodles are good! The noodles were cooked text book perfect, al dente & chewy. I loved the pork that came with it!

The other 2 dishes weren’t as WOW as the noodles but it was good to try other dishes along with the noodles.
Chewie
Ordered: lamb skewers ($8.80), marinated beef/tripe/pork ear and bean curd ($11.80), potato dumpling soup, pan fried dumplings ($9.80) and biang biang noodles ($12.40). I would not recommend anything on the menu apart from the knife cut noodles. All the other dishes were either poor in quality (meat cuts used tasted gamey and cheap), small portions or lacked flavour. The noodles however had a nice bouncy texture and the accompanying sauce had minced pork pieces in a spicy sauce. The restaurant itself is clean and has aircon but I would prefer go to a dodgy institution in chinatown any day for better value and experience.
Andrew C
Really nice food. Had the Biang Biang noodle, great thick noodles with lots of flavour. I had the non-chili version so the real deal may even be better. Fast friendly service, with nice clean restaurant setting.
Albert Chen
The wrap (rou jia mo) was really tasty! My first experience with biangbiang noodle was not too bad as well. Simply place for simple dishes. You would love their dry noodles
Honestly Tho
I loved the biang biang noodles! Unfortunately the spinach noodles were not available but the classic broad noodles had an amazing texture and tasted freshly made. The spicy level made me tear up a little but that's when you know it's good! We also got the signature cold noodles but this was doused in chilli oil and less enjoyable.

The decor was also very nice. Would recommend this place, especially since it was very affordable.
Mishytales
Came here just for the Biang Biang noodles which were delicious - the noodles are long and chewy plus the sauce is very flavourful and comes with vege and fried pork pieces. We got regular chilli and found it quite spicy but would recommend it!
Gourmet Rocket
Went there with little or no expectations. Really impressed with the meal me and my mate had. Of course the dish to get is the biang biang noodles: the famous wide noodles native to Xi'an. And they were wide! And hand made! It came with various types of cooked vegetables, fried pork, tomato omelette, scallions and a chili powder mix. We also got the lamb skewers, which in all honesty, you can get better elsewhere. If game, and enjoy heat, the cold chicken feet mix is really nice. Would be back!
Mary Tran
Would only come here for the signature biang biang noodles, it was nice and chewy, sauce was good and would recommend getting it spicy. You can find better lamb skewers for almost the same value (serving size was tiny). Pan fried dumplings were ordinary, the filling is very similar to the packaged ones. Pulled pork/lamb burgers were also too dry.
Christine Nguyen
If you love Xi Bay or chewy noodles, you’ll love this place. I would say it’s the modern version of Xi Bay. Has pretty much the typical dishes - biang biang noodles, oil splash, lamb skewers, soup noodles.

However, xian eatery has more side dishes which I like over Xi bay but Xi bay, I believe make better noodle dishes and more generous portions.

Asian Food Ninja
Noodie ninja!

When you want some noods you gotta visit Xi'an Eatery, their handmade noodles are so thick you can wear them as a belt. Make sure you get their dumplings as well, it's juicy and tasty.
Julie Nguyen
Decided to come here after seeing so much hype about the biang biang noodles so knew I had to try them.
Pan fried dumplings: a bit on the oily side but I really enjoyed the dumpling skin it was thin and the dumplings were nice and crispy 👌🏿
Chicken/pork and potato dish: the meat in this dish came with a lot of bones so it was quite difficult to eat
Biang biang noodles: I really liked sauce in the dish and the texture of the noodles - they were nice and chewy. Portion size is also decent but I feel like this dish would be a good option for sharing because I got bored of the flavours/texture of it after only having a small portion
Michelle Ung
Ordered the biang biang noodles and was a little disappointed. It was too oily for my liking and was lacking a little flavour. Noodles were great tho ! Love the texture and the chewiness was perfect.
Juke
The signature biang biang noodles are good & worth trying but the other dishes are at best average. We had the cold noodles which were okay. The sauce was tasty but the noodles were too thick & didn’t have a good texture. The signature burger is expensive for what it is, the bread is a bit too dense & any accompaniments are charged extra. It is extremely plain both in presentation & flavour without the added greens or other textures & flavours. Service is below average but then one does expect that at these types of eating establishments.

Oh no.... worst xi an cuisine we had. Please avoid this place.
Beef bun: decent flavor, ridiculous portion, $6.80 not worth.
Cold noodle: can you believe no cucumber no tofu skin? ( I’m not too sure if named correct). Only thing in the bowl are cold noodles and chilli oil.
Service: no service at all.
Please avoid this place.
MealzxD
Heard the biang biang noodles here were great. Indeed they were ! Bouncy chewy noodles with great flavour. Wasn't really spicy, however there was an extra spice jar on every table. We also tried the hot and spicy noodles, pulled porked bun and this cold chicken side dish. I forgot the name but it was bad. The sauce was nice but the chicken pieces were all bone and flesh was mushy. The bun had tender and fatty pork but the bun was a bit doughy, not that crispy. Other noodles were average. Would come back mainly for the biang biang.
Catherine
+3 standard, decently good food
+1 amazing noodles, definitely worth a try

Noise level: conversation at a slightly raised speaking volume.

Lamb skewers portion size was a bit small but tender and flavourful.

Shredded potato portion size was too big, only order as a side if sharing between 3 or 4.

Noodles had amazing texture and are so satisfying to eat. A little spicy so ask for a reduction if you’re not good with chilli.
Andie Lam
One of the best Northern Chinese noodle styles. Tasty, spicy, quick service. This is my favourite place for noodles. I am not Chinese but I love the noodles here. Other dishes not so great such as dumpling or wonton. Lamb skewer is average. Just come here and order all their signature dishes and you won’t be disappointed. Noodle soup has too much MSG, don’t drink the soup. Beef burger is not bad too.
Owin Camero
Never been to a traditional Chinese restaurant but heard some great things about this place. My favourite dish was the thick noodles that had tones of flavour. Their chilly dishes had good heat and flavour. I’m no more open to try traditional Chinese dishes because of Xian Eatery
Nicole Law
The shop is located on the main street so is easy to find, there was no wait when I went at 1 pm on a Sunday.
We ordered the Biang Biang noodles and Xi An cold noodles. This is my first time trying Xi An food so I can't comment on the authenticity but I highly recommend the Biang Biang noodles. The noodles are chewy and thick, the dish also comes with cubed potatoes and carrot, thinly sliced braised pork, egg & tomate with a hint of chili.
The service is quick and waitstaff are quite friendly.
Alicia Moores
As we're new to the area, we picked a restaurant at random and ended up eating here. Very cheap for the portion sizes you get. I got the pork & vegetable dumplings in chicken soup - AMAZING! The bowl was bigger than my head and the dumplings were full of flavour. My only tip is that you get here early as there was a wait for tables when we were leaving.
Justin Woo
Went here for lunch! We ordered the pulled pork dough and combination pork noodle soup. The pulled pork was quite salty and the noodles did not have much taste in the soup base. Overall there are better options in Burwood to try out.
Xlittlecupcake
I can’t believe I didn’t know about this place until recently!
Biang biang noods here are 5/5, would be even better if the sauce was spicier. The noodles were so jo0ci 💦, chewy, thick and FRESH - highly recommend ordering these.
Also ordered the beef burger, lamb skewers, and chilli stew noods (too hungry to take photo) - these noods were also a stand out, super fresh and flavoursome!
PotatoPototo
I was recommended by my parents to visit because they had randomly decided to eat here the previous weekend. The bian bian noodles was the star of the show! Very filling and satisfyingly spicy! Would recommend any of the dishes but the set back of the meal was the milk tea i had ordered, it wasn’t of standard.
Tastypanda
Came for a small snack. Got the lamb vermicelli soup with dough, signature xian cold noodles, vegetable salad with chilli sauce.

All three of the above are absolutely standout dishes to me. The cold noodles were delicious and authentic. It was very fun to rip up the dough and soak it in the vermicelli soup. And even the vegetable salad was so refreshing and satisfying to eat.

Overall very positive experience. Will be back.
Ph.D!
This is a great place for Xian food. Most dishes are flavourful and not too spicy. My favourite was the Minced Pork with pickled green bean and Pan fried dumplings. 😋

The lamb skewers were the only disappointment because it was tiny with hardly any meat on it, mainly fat and there wasn’t much flavour in it.

Restaurant is new and clean.

Service was not very friendly and the food took forever to come out considering when we ate it wasn’t even busy.

Will definitely come back to try other dishes.
Sez
I can really recommend this place as the food was fresh, tasty and came out hot,

I've never had xian cuisine before so I can't compare it to the traditional flavours but for my first experience I really enjoyed it,

They had a large menu so had a variety of dishes including the lamb skewers, bean jelly, pork burger, sour & spicy dumplings, stewed pork and lamb bread soup and it was all delicious

The staff where friendly and very helpful and the restaurant was clean

There prices where reasonable and with big portions so I highly recommend and would go back again.
