Review Rickshaw Food - Burwood

Standard Asian restaurant service type, where you get menu and go up to order. But food provide was tasty and awesome, had Mongolian noodle and some ice jelly. The noodles was fantastic, had the right elasticity and packed a punch. The ice jelly really goes well after a spicy noodle dish.

Went here using a groupon. Hassle free scanning and the options was explained clearly. Decent noodles but nothing too spectacular though

I read many negative reviews about this place, but still decided to give it a try. Because I lived in Chongqing for a few years and loved the food. Well, should've listened to the reviews. A big bowl of bland noodle, with a few flavourless decorative beef dices. The soup is poorly crafted, I can tell many spices are missing. The texture of noodle was almost squishy. Far from authentic. It's an insult to my love for Sichuan/Chongqing food. Sigh... One star for the polite staff.

I love Chonqing Street noodles and crave it regularly. Great for spicy food lovers - I always get extra spicy classic noodles, tea egg and tofu salad.

Loved their noodles and spice. Chicken in the noodle was super tender and infused beautifully with home made chilly sauce. Got a jar of the chilly sauce and am so excited to try it out with my food. The staff are also friendly and lovely. I'll definitely go back for their lovely dishes.

Noodles all tasted quite similar. Sweet and sour soup noodles lacked any real flavour. Portion sizes were pretty average - ordered 4 noodles + 3 sides between two couples

Very flavoursome food. Somewhat exotic if you are into offal!

Great cheap feed for noodle lovers! Noodles are handmade and are quite delicious, Colours and flavours are strong and has a nice spicy kick. Will try other dishes so I definitely would visit again. Lots of people will be quite happy here for value.

My stomach not well after having Hokkien Fried Prawn Noodles, something wrong with the prawn & salty, yes we totally agree Natania Han & Alfred Nguan, we also felt like having Chinese food not singaporean /malaysian food and it is pricey and does not taste good for the price you are paying for. Better go Peranakan Place or Papparich.
Natania Han
Tried the prawn mee soup which had a very overpowering flavour of szechuan pepper and completely changed its taste. Felt like we were having chinese food not singaporean/malaysian. The yong tau foo soup was so salty and filled with MSG and was completely unpalatable. This was from our second visit (first was ok, nothing remarkable but not terrible either) and has made us vow to never return as the standard of food changed so much in a month or two.

Thankyou for your wonderful service , Aunty and yourself are very welcoming at 9pm and recommendation of the Hakka soup ( with bitter melon) to have it separate with the marinade pork mince noodles are tops Your Hainan chicken rice is delicious too . My mother and daughter also enjoyed the Lychee & Green Tea icecream with a surprise strawberry Panacotta on the side We will be back soon

Nice change from the Chinese food in Burwood.
Rickshaw offers Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine with an extensive menu including dessert.
The portions are generous and decently priced
Service was quick and the staff were great
Would recommend
What was ordered:
Vegetarian laksa 🍜 (spicy)
Seafood fried rice 🍚 (spicy)
Green tea bingsu with jelly 🍧

Generous serving sizes where we could not finish our mains. It was quite well priced and everything tasted fresh and flavoursome. The utensils for the dessert were a little less functional to eat but I would highly recommend the green tea bingsu.

I finally got to try this place and I was not disappointed. We loved each dish that came out, it was so flavoursome. The service was friendly, they give out complimentary dessert of the day with every $15 spent. The lunch menu is also value for money. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

Nice small space. Very large menu of options. Prices are reasonable. Service was prompt and food arrived reasonably fast. Portion size was good. Menu item says dish comes with lime wedge but was actually served lemon which, to me changes the flavour a bit. My sambal wasn't stirfried into the dish, on the side. If I go back i would ask for it to be stirfried into dish for preferred flavour. Would go back to try other dishes. Their hainan chicken looked plump and juicy.

The staff were nice and the food was good. Very decent portions for the price as well. Great location in the area. One criticism would be that the food was quite oily, made me feel a bit sick eating it. Besides that I don't have many complaints. Would eat here again if I'm in the area.

Love coming to this place! We love the dry laksa, chicken curryand beef rendang. All very good, very flavourful dishes. We haven't seen another place do dry laksa. Their range of dessert and drinks is amazing as well. Highly recommend this place. Every time we go to burwood we gravitate towards coming back here because the food is amazing!

Came here for dessert, mango bingsoo and pandan doufu hua (beancurd) were quite nice - with an interesting Singapore/Malaysian spin. Recommended to try once for the experience, although the original styles are preferred

We had the dry noodles , hainese chicken and beef rendang with rice . All dishes were tasty! The dry noodles with pork sounds simple but the whole mix was so flavoursome , I finished the whole bowl! The chicken was succulent and the gingered shallots perfectly matched it . Beef was nice too, rich and tasty! We revived a complementary red bean dessert which looked strange at first, like a maroon soup. It was paired with coconut cream and still warm - beautiful finish to the meal on a cold day. We loved it all . Thank you

I love Singapore and Malaysian Food. Try this place for the first time and not disappointed. The spicy bean fish with kangkong so good. They cooked really well! Love the flavour, if you want to taste Singaporean dishes, must try this place

From a traveller point of view, who have just come back from Singapore, this restaurant in Burwood is NOT Singaporean food at all.

I went there with two other friends. We ordered set menu for 4 people. It turns out that the set menu for 4 is suitably for 3 people. I would say the dish size is not very large.

[Bak Kuh Teh]
Soup with very dark colour. In Singapore it is like transparent soup with very large pork ribs. Here the soup is not tasty at all.

🐟[Curry fish]
I thought it would be a very large dish but again I was wrong. Fish are cut into slices. The curry is NOT spicy but SWEET. Strange enough.

🐓[Hainanese Chicken]
This is the only dish we are satisfied, but not perfect anyway.

If you are one of those who think Singaporean food is better than Malaysian, specifically Penang’s; then remain in your cave!! Just kidding- on a serious note, we walked by this place when we visited last week and thought let’s give this a try.

We weren’t disappointed. Had the:
1. Curry Chicken with Egg noodle = huge portions- both meat & veg plus noddle and def value for money. Noodles were springy, covered with lovely coconut milk smelling curry sauce.
2. Hokkien Fried Prawn noodles = again, big portions with lots of filling. Tossing up between this and Mee Siam, we’ll be back to try the latter.
3. Mince meat Dry noodle = ‘bak chor mee’ to Singaporean locals, the kids easily shared between themselves for a fulfilling meal. My 8YO said: “this is good- do Malaysians have this??” 😤
4. Nanyang milk coffee = average really. If you don’t fancy the more sugary coffees, eg HK or Thai style then this is for you.
5. Egglet (chocolate) = tasty, crispy with soft insides. Am not sure what I was expecting but $5.80 felt a tad pricy.

All in all a pleasant experience.Definitely will be back, just have to don my Singaporean disguise when infiltrating ‘enemy’ territory. 🧥
Nice place for Singapore food and dessert. Foods are delicious and reasonably priced. The portion was good. Tha place is good for two people as well as for hanging out with friends. They were offering free dessert with any food ordered, picture taken and shared on Facebook.

Me and my partner ate here today, and we had been here a couple of times prior. However, today he found a slug in his vegetables in the dry noodles he ordered. It was disgusting. We asked the waiter and he actually said it was a garlic until further inspection, where he ended up taking it back to the kitchen. My partner had no appetite so we were ready to cancel his dessert and leave. They ushered us to sit back down and they’d get us a new dish. By this, they meant, give us a piece of pork cutlet which we hadn’t actually touched, whilst the slug was actually found in the vegetable in the noodles. He couldn’t actually eat the rest of the noodles where the slug was found, couldn’t finish his dessert, we were not offered a replacement dish, and still had to pay the full price for all our meals. Never visiting again.

Got off a flight and wanted to come here for a late dinner. Closing time says 10pm but doors were locked when we arrived at 9:31pm :(

Will update experience next time we get to try hopefully.

First of all, their fish is really nice. Like the one offered with the Singaporean sauce. Fish is crunchy and also full of flavour.
Also tried hainan chicken, some stir fried vegetables and noodles there. All very good!!! Just note that some of the stir fried vegetables are VERY spicy. Likely to cough if you’re can’t take too much chilli.

< Singaporean, Malaysian, Chinese cuisine >

Off the bat reminds me of Singaporean food court stalls

❌Food: nothing special, generous portions, good to fix hunger
❌Dessert: unique, tasty, affordable, from $5.80 egglets to $6.80 strawberry+mango+avocado beverages.
🍓🥑🍓🥑

Would come again strictly for the desserts and beverages. Mint de Lindt.
I gotta say this below average rating doesn’t do this place justice. We have been there twice and liked most of their dishes. Dry laksa and Hainan chicken were delicious. Rendang beef was a tad too salty when we tried but still edible with rice. I also liked the pickles that came with Nasi Lemak, not too sweet as stated by the previous review. The desert - Pandan beancurd beautifully concluded our meal. We had a chat with the owner auntie, who’s originally from Singapore. No wonder their menu slightly differed from average Malaysian restaurant. We will definitely come back.

Sets for 2 person.
1. Sour pickle. It’s too sweet!
2. The vege dish is okay, kang Kong 3.5/5
3. Traditional beef stew. 1/5
This one is suitable for two guys not to girls. Too hard and tough to chew! My chin hurts after eat this ‘stone meat’
4 sweet tofu. Far worse than Taiwanese sweet tofu.

And it is hot inside. Crowed.... and no air con

Located in the Emerald Square complex near Burwood Plaza. This is an Asian restaurant dishing up all sorts of delicious items. There should be something to suite most people on there. The drinks menu is quite extensive and they did have egg waffles for dessert (might try it next time).

Eyeing off other diners’ meals, they were quite substantial and definitely wouldn’t go hungry here so thumbs up to that. I would say quite good value for money. Service is nice and they’ll give you a menu and a paper to write down your order (each item has a specific letter and number combo).

We got a Traditional Beef Brisket Served With Egg Noodle (dry) and Chicken Satay Skewers With Rice And Veggie Salad. Both meals were large and flavourful. Brisket was a little fatty in parts but the meat was tender and went well with noodles. The chicken was nicely cooked with a yummy satay sauce. The drinks seemed slightly pricy but they are served in steins I can understand the cost. We had Lychee Tea & Mango Tango. Both were nice and cooling, perfect for the summer weather.

I have been to this restaurant few times and for me, unfortunately hit and miss kind of restaurant. For lunch special, perhaps you can order the hainan chicken. It comes with free drink (actually smaller serving of normal drink size and usually not much flavour). I prefer the set menu for 4, choose the one with barramundi fish & belachan chicken and kang kong. This set menu, suddenly bring their food quality to another level.

Expectations high! It didn't meet them unfortunately
Ordered a few dishes and my char keow Teoy was ok,has a decent amount of prawns in it,but it felt like it was missing something, maybe sum sambal would of been good, the table next to me got sambal but I'm not sure if they asked for it but there portion size looked bigger than mine.
My missus beef redang she liked it but found the meat fatty
Our friend enjoyed there Crispy skin chicken
The chicken satay sticks, they were ok,the sauce is different from other places but didn't hit the mark either
They have this promotion where you like there fb page and you get a free ice cream! We are still trying to figure out what it is but they said matcha but i felt there was lychee too
There is plenty on the menu to try, despite a ok experience I'm willing to come back
