Pretty good malatang place. Standard ingredient selection. Staff is okay. Soup base is pretty great. Gets really busy at times during peak so get there's early!
If your looking for a more relaxed dining setting I reckon head over to the other malatang places in the area which are equally as good but less busy.
The soup broth is rich and delicious and has the right amount of spice to it. A lot of ingredients to choose from.
Tasty soup with a large variety of ingredients to choose from! Clean environment with AC so you can sweat out the spice in peace 😋
It was my first visit and the food certainly didn’t disappoint. The variety of meat and veggies were pretty good. The only downside for me is the ‘spicy’ level on the menu. Even the non-spicy option mentioned on the menu is still spicy.
Super popular malatang place in Burwood - recently renamed 'no#1 malatang' which the restaurant chain arguably deserves. Gets busy from 6-8pm with many opting for takeaway, tables are packed although turnover rate is fast enough to move the lines - wait can be around 20min for food as your hotpot toppings are boiled. Great variety of sliced meat, tofu, meat balls, mushroom and veges though people come back for the rich signature broth. Less spicy is recommended if you're unsure about spice levels. Meal is roughly $15-20 pp as you pay for ingredient weight
If trying to find a seat and wait for our meal wasn’t toooo long, I reckon I’d be here every second day. I love malatang and the broth and added sauces/condiments here is just so damn good!!
Eating at malatang is an experience in itself, unfortunately not always a particularly pleasant one but on the flip side it's an enduring lesson on how to be patient. What I would say is that you need to be prepared to wait, be prepared to circle the dining floor like a vulture looking for an empty table and most importantly, be prepared for the hot numbing sensation of Sichuan chilli oil. Once you've picked your ingredients and received your bowl, they will ask you if you want vinegar, sesame paste, chilli oil, sugar and garlic paste (?) in any case, add it all in. I have mine with ramen, veggies, rice cakes, bean curd, fish, enoki, quail egg and sliced pork. Soup-base is like a cross between creamy laksa and spicy hot broth. In any regards, it works and is definitely a affordable hearty meal ($12-15).
I love the variety of meat and vegetables I can choose from. I love how I am able to get a large portion for such a cheap price! Great for broke students like me, very delicious too :)
Always packed with people. Nice, affordable and satisfying. Always come here for an easy meal that is guaranteed to be tasty. Never disappoints!
Good, affordable and delicious hot broth soup, that's how I described Malatang. The place was packed, almost all seats was taken and staff was really friendly. There's so much combination of customisation with your toppings, there was a lot of veggies, meat and noodles to choose from.
