Review Masak Ku - Camberwell

Pocket Tourer
Creative and Delicious - Malaysian Cuisine at it's very best Our first impression of lovely intimate setting and wonderful aromas of Asian cooking emanating from the kitchen was confirmed when our food arrived. The sambal fish was fantastic and we now understand why so many recommended the soft shell crabs. However, their pièce de résistance, unusually so for a Malaysian restaurant, was Mary's durian ice cream, as the waiter said "it's to die for". Mary and her crew have certainly created a new standard for Malaysian restaurants to aspire to.

Roti was the real deal! They also do not add unnecessary MSG to their dishes though some of the sauces may have a little of it. We had a group of 15 on a Sunday night and were served very well. Nice ambiance too and comfortable chairs
Geoff Lam
Casual dining but the food is spot on. They offer classic Malaysian dishes but have several dishes that I have never tried before. Must tries are their Sambal fish wrapped in banana leaf and grilled to perfection and butter prawn, both absolutely delicious!

Lovely restaurant - food excellent & staff helpful, friendly & attentive. Don't miss the chili octopus entree or the roti - fabulous. But seriously, everything is way above average - flat noodles, beef rendang, chicken potato curry & the pork belly - all delicious! Lots of restaurants in Camberwell Junction, but we're looking forward to a return visit here.

Fellow Malaysian here. I had high expectation on this place given the name is so Malaysian. When I walked in, all customers were Caucasians which means it is not a good thing. I ordered nasi goreng and fried kuay teow. Both tasted nothing close to "Malaysian". Very disappointed.

Got it through uber eats. Pork belly and fried rice and it was terrible $50 only on those 2 things. Pork was dry and chewy and rice was plain and dry. Got here was way too cold so I had to microwave too I had a few bites and couldn't finish so it went straight to the bin. DO NOT EAT ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE! expensive and terrible food

Amazing food and service . Everything from the Chicken 55 to the Fish in sambal and pina colada Ice cream made our taste buds so happy and satisfied . Will be coming back :)

Excellent food, fantastic for our large family group! Extremely friendly & efficient service. We always have a fantastic time here😊

No. of Dine-in: 2
No. of UberEat: 4
Rating: above 4.5
This place has fallen within my UberEat zone, and I'm lovin' it!! Really authentic Malaysian cuisine and it's mouth-watering good.

What must you order?
Top three are, both duck dishes - the Teochew Duck and Crispy Fried Duck, with Sun Kong Tofu.
Other dishes like beef rendang and pepper squid are also recommended.

Why do you recommend this place?
The portion is generous (good money value). Food not too salty. The diner is spacious and you can seat comfortably. Service is efficient, friendly and attentive.

Masak Ku is one of the most underrated restaurants on the Burke Road camberwell strip. With some seriously good Malaysian food on offer, the quality and selection surpasses many of its neighbours and is a fantastic choice if you’re in the area. The BEST dishes by far (in my opinion) are their beef rendang and chicken satays. Two Malay staple dishes done exceptionally well!
The best Randang is town hands down. The roti is the best I’ve ever had-soft and fluffy. We also tried the the squid which was delicious as was the chicken Curry and the pork dish was great too. All very reasonably priced as well.

Tasty authentic Malaysian cuisine. They do not use any extra MSG. Friendly staff Jeff and Mary. The Roti was amazing as good as lot 10 bukit bintang Kuala Lumpur...we had a table of 14 plus on toddler on a Sunday night and was a good family time

Overall food was good. Enjoyed the sambal kangkung and fried duck ( though I'd call it crispy skin duck). Butter crispy soft shell crab wasn't bad either but needs more 'crunch'.

Interior is nice and spacious without feeling overcrowded like lots of other Asian restaurants out there. Will be back again for the Teochew braised duck.

Excellent service and above average food. The Lobak entrée was crispy and had great depth of flavour (only downside, one was slightly cold suggesting they had been premade and then deep fried). The Kuay Teow had a good charred flavour and included flavoursome chicken and seafood. It was a large portion however unfortunately a bit too oily. Finally the Curry Laksa was awesome. Perfect level of spiciness for Australians, the combination of ingredients including tofu puffs, prawns and chicken gave the dish interest and the coconut based soup was simply delightful. Will definitely go back.
Mistermister
What a great little find for UberEATS! Loved every dish we ordered. I don't normally eat Ipoh combination because I end up putting so much soy to get flavour but this one was fantastic. Curry laksa was bang on and the char Kwai Tao and Hokkien mee also impressed.

Been a few times, great place, ambience and service is awesome. Food is actually cheap considering the quality of ingredient and taste. Would definitely go more frequently if closer to home

Beautiful ambience with good service . Prices generally on the higher side but overall food was delicious and came in generous portions. Particularly impressed by the clay pot yong taufu dish , pretty authentic !

We live in the area and go here often. Food, ambience and price is hard to beat. Roti, rendang and laksa are favourites. Description says the average spend for 2 people is $70, but we average $45-50. The laksa for less than $15 is a meal in itself. My partner is from Singapore, says the food is very authentic and loves the durian ice cream.

Really awesome place with great ambience and awesome food !
We loved the spice balance n chicken 55 n lemongrass chicken was the stand out !
N thx pineapple pinscolada is a must try !!
The staff is very nice and welcoming..,
N price is just perfect for food quality ..
Coming back again :)

Golly,I really liked this place. Had dinner here with my partner and ealmost everything was great. We had the roti (delicious), the sticky beef ribs (delicious),the satay chicken (merely average),the char kuay teow (pretty good), and the curry laksa (delicious and amazing).
Can't wait to return and have the laksa another dishes again.

Masak Ku is a very good Malaysian restaurant. Pleasant dining room, pleasant staff, excellent service. It can get a bit noisy when busy. The food is generally very good - we have now worked through most of the menu and the theme is fresh ingredients, expertly prepared. The sambal fish is a masterpiece. Overall a great place; I've done BYO which is accommodated with grace, and also ordered off the wine list which works well. All round an excellent place and we do keep going back.

The customer service was top-notch. The food was average. For entree, we had roti and chicken satay, which was perfect. For the mains, we ordered Char Kway Teow with Egg and Nasi Goreng. The Char Kway Teow was a bit oily for me so I couldn't finish all. Nasi Goreng lacked a bit authentic flavour. For desserts, we had the lychee ice cream, which was refreshing. Overall a lovely place.

A+ location but not quite an authentic Malaysian fares...

Banquet was expensive and those dishes weren't right.

Great venue and pleasant service.
Casbar
A very accommodating restaurant for a larger group - all of us were very impressed with the staff and the food. Most dishes we chose were very good and generous in serving. The roti with satay is a must. The decor is clean and modern and it was so lovely to sit in real dining chairs. I'll be going back again soon as $35 does get you a tasty decent meal.
Dinner Out
Super fresh faultless food that is packed with flavour!
Would have to be the best traditional Malaysian food in Melbourne.
Will definitely return on a regular basis

My endless search for a zinging double thumbs up Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne continues. The service is this restaurant was super-nice and the restaurant cosy and warm inside. The manager and waitress were sweet and we were served promptly after explaining we were running late and had to make a movie session around the corner. However, both dishes we ordered were just a little blain (blah + plain). The Kelantan chicken had no personality and my Hokkien noodles lacked 'liao' - meat/prawns etc (the meaty stuff) so was mainly noodles. As I speak Hokkien, I like to think I have also had my share of Hokkien as this was unfortunately blain. However, the restaurant was pretty busy, so some dishes must be delish - however, I'd like to think a good yardstick for a great more authentic tasting Asian restaurant is when there are at least a few Asian diners and in this one...there was just me and the wait staff.

While it may not look like much from the street signage, this is place has the most amazing food. I was having a casual dinner with friends and we couldn't rave enough about our dishes.
Firstly, the staff were extremely pleasant and lovely to chat and joke to. The service was prompt and polite and we hardly waited for food at all. It was BYOW which I love as well. The roti bread was fluffy and delicious. I devoured the spicy chicken mince and eggplant dish, the eggplant had that great texture of chewy inside and crispy skin. We also ordered from the specials the duck and pineapple curry. This was cooked perfectly and the pineapple was oh so sweet.
I really can't give enough praise to this restaurant. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Perfect night, great service, spot on
Ambience and the food perfect. Make sure you have the prawn potatoes for entree, could eat 1000!! Highly recommended restaurant in a great area.

My partner and l have discovered Masak Ku in the last 6 weeks and have been back three times to have dinner. All the dishes we have tried have been delicious with good size servings. The service is very good and all the staff are very friendly and attentive. Look forward to trying some new dishes next time.

Excellent ambience for a business or personal meet up for dinner. Very warm welcoming staff. Nice sizable food portions. Good mix of hot and mild food at a very reasonable price. Definite value for money.
Yum! I've wanted to try Masak Ku for months and finally did albeit by takeaway only on account of a bad back. We had the nonya chicken curry- the chicken was tender and the curry tasty, not oily at all -and gado gado. Masak Ku I look forward to dining in soon!

I love this restaurant the staff are very friendly without being intrusive. I have not had a bad dish, the quality and standard are always high. In a group of eight or just with my partner the experience is enjoyable.

I walked past this restaurant and the aroma of the food can be smelled from the street. o I though that I would give this restaurant a try.I must admit that I have already been to Masak Ku three times already. The food is really tastes good and the staff very hospitable. Really enjoyed the food... my favourite was the Nyonya Chicken Curry with the Roti...definitely will be back....

Walked into here with service immediately. Very impressed with seating for 9 people. Water was served immediately with jasmine tea to follow. The ambience is nice as it is local Malaysian.

We ordered soon after with prawns first. They had immense flavour coupled with the sauce was enjoyable and delicious. I received the hot and sour soup with the prawn giving it extra crunch and flavour with that nice rich tomatoey flavour. Next up was the curry puff. Very happy that the side salad was served with entrees as they help reset the palette with its fresh flavour. The curry puff had a nice potatoey beef mix inside very impressed

The mains came next with a beef ra dang and a chicken curry. Roti and rice came as well with the lychee fish, Ma Po dou fu and the eggplant. All of these dishes were excellent with the curries having immense flavour and the Ma Po dou fu exciting the taste buds. The eggplant was a little plain with the lychee fish also being a little plain just being a steamed barramundi. Roti was a nice side dish to have with curry but not to die for. Very impressed with the Malaysian flavour that came with every dish although it wasn't needed with the lychee fish, actually killed the fruity taste of the fish and lychee and the eggplant just tasted like the lychee fish with a eggplant flavour.

Overall impressed with this local restaurant with great food and great service but flavours were standard well cooked Malaysian but not super amazing exciting malay different flavours so would come back again for a local meal but would like something to excite me and impress me immensely

Was here for dinner with a friend , nice staff members , lovely food and filling . The soft shell crab is fantastic ! Also BYO friendly . Will be back to try other dishes.
Frans
Really enjoyed my dinner at masak Ku. Food was really delicious, good presentation and good taste. I could suggest spring rolls, potato prawns (the best ever) chicken55. My mains was fish tamarind good too. Service was good as well.
The World Loves Melbourne
Masak Ku is a leading Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne, located in the upmarket precinct of Burke Rd Camberwell. This Malaysian restaurant is not your "fast turnover" hawker style Malaysian restaurant. Sure, Masak Ku offers hawker options but the food is upmarket in style while resonating with authenticity. Masak Ku is perfect for corporate team Christmas functions as it embraces the Malaysian way of dishes designed to share.
Feed Me
This place is a gem on the crowded streets of Camberwell. Authentic, home style Malaysian cuisine served family style and with the friendliest service around. There are a lot of street style Malaysian outlets all over Melbourne, which I also love, but it is nice to experience more home cooking and especially when it's so full of flavour.

Food ordered:
Basically had a 3 course meal so I will highlights favourites. The sticky beef ribs were a winner. So tender and paled with great flavour. The mains that topped the list for me were the beef rendang, so tender and perfectly seasoned, and the crispy duck that was the juiciest I've had! The desserts were a nice refreshing finish to a big meal.

Ambience:
The decor here is nice and is well suited for large groups if needed. Everything was very clean and seemed quite new. The waitstaff were so attentive and very friendly taking care of everything we asked.

If you are a local be sure to check this place out and if you are in the area, I recommend it for an authentic Malaysian meal.@
Hello. Imnikki
Very impressed with the food and service. I have to say that this is one of the best Malaysian food I have had in Melbourne. Ordered the Teochew braised duck, Yong tofu and hor fun and loved all of them! Safe to say I'm definitely coming back to try out the other dishes.

Masak Ku are two Malay words that mean 'My Cooking'. The owners behind this sophisticated looking restaurant were a couple, the husband being the head chef from Malaysia, and the wife from Hong Kong, who takes care mostly on the daily operations making the sale. The duo created a fancy dining place serving mainly Malaysian and Chinese foods. We were in awe with the beautiful decor and we did not expect to dine under classic chandeliers with wide arrays of wine selection to choose from.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Masak Ku opened just last year, close to Camberwell station. Simon and Mary Lee have presented to us a more upmarket restaurant experience for Malaysian cuisine, rather than sticking to the more common casual, hawker style of eatery. Taking over from a Chinese restaurant that previously occupied the site, shades were removed from the chandeliers, brightening up the room and providing a warm and inviting dining space. The restaurant is available also for functions of up to nearly 60 people.
KT
Around the corner from the Camberwell Train Station sits Masak Ku, a Malaysian restaurant owned by a nice lady by the name of Mary Lee. The bright yellow backlit signs ensure that you easily spot them amongst the other options on Burke Road. I was invited to come in to sample their menu tonight. After hearing a few of the most popular items on the menu, we were unable to come up with a decision on what to have, so we left the menu up to Mary to organise for us.
Woly
Good but not great. The service was friendly, the restaurant was well presented and clean. The menu had many options, all of which looked delicious. The food itself tasted good but not that great. The issue was that it didnt taste very fresh and tasted like it was microwaved/reheated rather than prepared fresh to serve. For the price (i ordered fish at $27), I would expect it to be a lot fresher. So overall we were somewhat disappointed and due to the many other great restaurants in the area, we probably wouldn't come back.
Gastrology
Showcasing the melting pot of cuisines and culture that is Malaysia, Masak Ku serves a cosmopolitan of delicious food that has predominantly Malay, Chinese and Indian influences. The menu encourages sharing with friends and family (the Malaysian way!) with an array of dishes that range from small portioned plates to larger mains.

I came here tonight feeling so run down and needing a laksa to blast me out. So tasty, and did the trick. My partner had a gado gado, tofu amazingly good. Very sweet hostess and prompt service. Schmick interior, but def not as pricey as the urban spoon price guide suggests. Will be back when the laksa craving hits again.

You pride yourself in knowing your food?......Well try this absolute cracker then!!!. Didn't want to write a review after just a couple of visits. Thought it must be beginners luck. But no, after 9 or 10 meals there now, we just can't fault it. Very consistent - brilliant. Intense, well developed and balanced flavours, along with generous serves that are very well priced. Presentation of the dishes excite the taste buds and service is attentive. and friendly. Kelantan chicken is a specialty, chilli & Szechuan pepper squid so tender and moorish and the roti....well just amazing - tried at many places and you won't find better.
Sixty Plus Diner
Great restaurant. Having dined at Masak Ku on two occasions I can say that the décor, service, food quality/presentation and prices are exceptional. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. The staff go out of their way to make sure the evening is a success. On our last visit staff went to great lengths to ensure we got the table we wanted (despite the fact that it probably meant rearranging numerous tables on the night).

Fantastic food, very pleasant décor, competent and friendly staff, BYO is available and drink prices there are very reasonable. It doesn't get much better.

Strongly recommended for a great night out or a quick meal before a movie.

A great litte gem of a restaurant. This is a great place for a big dinner with friends or a quick bite out with partner. The staff are friendly and efficient and the manager (Mary) would be an asset in any business. The food is tasty and well prepared and presented. With timber floors and brick walls it can get a little noisy but it adds to the atmosphere. Mains dishes a generous portions but far to tasty not to eat all of them.

Authentic Malaysian food with amazing service. For fresh and authentic Malaysian food, masak ku is a must! Service is impeccable and the ambience is perfect.

Delicious food. On recommedation came to try this place with a group of friends and we loved it. Good food , friendly staff and nice ambience. The butter soft shell crab and the roti were just amazing. All in all it was a very enjoyable dining experience. We are already planning one of our birthday celebrations here.
Artdeco
Disappointing Malaysian meal. We were a group of 3 travelling from Canberra. We checked this site first for a good Malaysian meal. First of all, we requested 2 entrees and 3 mains. Expecting them to turn up accordingly, instead all the mains turn up and entrees came later afterwards (not for long) We were swamped with all the food on the table. We had chicken satay sticks, they were ok, nothing unusual. Gado gado was saucey! Then egg plant and minced pork was extremely oily (in fact we have t take away!). The pork dish was nice, but the chicken Maryland was not that fresh and lacks flavour. We all agreed that the meal wasn't that Malaysian! Overall we were quite disappointed with the last meal in Melbourne. Will we go back again? Most likely not!
Eddie Low
Teochew Braised Duck. Come close to the ones we get back home. Really good, n more importantly, service from owner's wife, Mary was excellent. Other dishes were very good too. Best sambal beans, special of the day soft shell crab was a delight. Strongly recommended.
John_mathieson
Good Food, Good Service, Great Value. Title says it all I hope - high quality food in manageable servings, friendly and efficient service - yet at the same time extremely inexpensive. Plus there is an option to BYO wine with an extremely charitable corkage charge - always a winner in my view. Only drawback is that parking in Burke Rd is often challenging in the evenings but if you live within walking distance you have no excuse at all not to give this a try.

Jeff..u rockk dude..such a cute fella with lots of recommendations on food..love the place.. :)

One of the best malaysian restaurants. Masak Ku opened recently and my family and I have been there several times. It has quickly become one of our favourite places to eat.

While servings sizes are moderate, the food itself is superb. The presentation is very good.

Ambience is nice. Classy, but still casual, perfect for the area. The service often is top notch with polite wait staff and reasonable times for dishes to come out.

As a lover of malaysian hawker food, I would recommend the Cantonese Hor fun, and the hokkien mee. I would like to see their Char kueh tiao noodles be cooked a little longer to give it a harder texture. Laksa was not the best but still acceptable. Probably should be a bit spicier.

Only one dish has disappointed me and that was the nonya curry. Little flavour and meat seemed old. Apart from this, the rendang, tofu, tamarind fish, banana leaf fish and veggies were excellent. The get the flavours and textures right with good presentation to top it off. Many of the dishes have the fusion taste of malaysian cuisine where you can taste the all the different influences in one bite.

Definitely recommend this place.

The level of service delivered by Mary and team is unparalleled - remembering my name after my first visit I was very impressed. As a former restaurant manager it's so refreshing to have a local restaurant owner who understands the importance of customer relationships and excellent food.

Superb food and quality resto. Very nice n tasty food with high quality taste n ingredient .. Nasi goreng full of flavour that make a big wow as well as fried kiew tiao.. All food taste fantastic as well as home-made ice cream ...Highly recommend resto with cozy ambiance n quality of food

Bland. Very nice looking place, Very nice staff.

The Fish dish we ordered takeaway had well cooked fresh fish but was completely tasteless and lacked aroma.

Nice find in Camberwell. Lovely find in Camberwell, recently dined at Masak Ku with a work colleague and had a great night. Authentic flavours, friendly staff and some very good menu options. Cheap and cheeful wine list an added bonus.
Nima
Amazing food (the best pork belly I've ever had), really friendly staff with the best customer service..
Jimfrost1991
Loved it. Just took my family to this restaurant, was great food and very welcoming atmosphere. We have 3 noisy active kids aged 10, 8 and 5 and they loved the aquarium and the food which wasn't too spicy. The waiters couldn't be nicer and more welcoming and the decor of the restaurant is great. Its like going to an 'adult' restaurant with great food but being able to take the kids. One slight note is we ordered the buttered prawns which were certainly yummy but came prepared in their shellls so had to eat in shells. May not be to everyones liking but the rest was great.
Han
Great Malaysian place in Camberwell. New small Malaysian place in Camberwell. Sambal rainbow trout was very well done with not a single bone in it, very good effort considering the number of small bones on a rainbow trout!!!! Entree dishes are fairly large serving size. Fried kway teow had the required "Hei". Durian ice cream is a must have for dessert. Will return with a more friends in order to try more dishes.
Barley And Hops
Very nice. Great little restaurant. Reasonably priced with good food. Only faults we could pick was three of the dishes we most wanted to have were sold out and of course there is not much beer wise, Tiger the best of a bad selection.
Bianca Farrelly
Masak Ku is AMAZING! delicious food, fantastic service and the general layout of the restaurant is stunningly quirky. Staff members Mary and Jeff are more than welcoming to regular staff and go above and beyond to make customer's dining experience professional and friendly at the same time. You two … and the wonderful spices in your dishes make this restaurant a 5/5 :)
Amelia
Fantastic service, delicious food, lovely fit out. Highly recommended little gem in camberwell! My new favourite :)

Great birthday dinner. We had a celebration dinner here on Sunday. What a find! Attentive and friendly service. Food was described and suggestions made. And absolutely delicious. I'm hoping this one will stay here for ever! It certainly deserves to.

Great Malaysian food in Camberwell. I dined here with a friend recently - we are both Malaysian and enjoyed our experience here. This was yummy food with great flavours and of good quality. We agreed that the beef rendang was delicious and one of the better ones we've had in Melbourne. The chilli chocolate ice cream was a lovely way to end the meal, and I look forward to trying the teh tarik flavour next time. The service was good, although perhaps a little overly formal and awkward (perhaps to distinguish themselves from more casual Malaysian restaurants) - loosen up a bit guys!
Glam75
Great atmosphere and great & affordable food in the heart of Camberewll. I'm not the type to try new restaurants especially one that has opened no more than 2 months. Hoewever, my wife & I dined at Masak Ku over the weekend and I must say that I quite impressed. The ambience as great and so was the food. Prices were reasonable, unlike some Chinese restaurants around the area. The staff were friendly and service as great. We especially liked their Hor Fun but saw next table order their house specialty - Sambal grilled rainbow trout. It smelled so nice that we could smell it from our table. Definitely will order next time. What I can't stop raving about is the home made durian as well as chocolate-chilli ice cream....OMG..they are to die for! I can still savour the taste in mouth. WIll definitely be returning back again!
Tannerbeep
A real gem. I've been here a few times and it's now my go-to place whenever my friends and I want Malaysian food. This place is a breath of fresh air because there are few places serving great Malaysian food at reasonable prices that have a really nice ambience (and fewer that don't make you smell like food when you leave). So far, my firm favourites are their curry puffs (like grandma used to make), the chicken 55, teochew duck, sambal fish and char kuay teow. For dessert, the ice creams are a must-have. All the flavours are good but if you're a durian fan, the durian ice cream is tops! You can tell that there's been alot of pure durian flesh in there and not a single drop of durian essence. All in all, my experiences here have been very good, foodwise and servicewise. The owners here show that they care about what they do and that comes through in the quality of the food and their hospitality.
Alexander Tang
Authentic Malaysian/Singaporean Food. Nice new restaurant with superb Malaysian/Singaporean food! Nice friendly staff. I understand the chef is Malaysian too, which explains the authenticity of the food. I really love spicy food, and if you're like me, then I recommend you to try their sambal Kang kong, Beef Rendang, and Spicy Tamarind fish.

For dessert, I was delighted to find out they have an interesting chilli chocolate ice cream. Tried it. Loved it. So unique! And I understand they make the ice cream themselves!

If you like Malaysia/Singaporean Food, I definitely recommend this place!
MYT
We ordered achar, satay, tamarind fish, grilled pork. Good flavours overall.

Achar had a good crunch and wasn't spicy. Grilled pork had chilli and lemongrass, moist and charred.

Pleasant service. Reasonably priced.

Will be back to try other dishes.
Ben Yap
First impressions good. Will return again.. Ordered 2 entrees and 2 mains. The Acar is good if you like eating this typical malaysian pickled dish. Very flavourful and nutty flavours. We also tried the satay. The skewers of meat were well grilled and marinated. The satay sauce was ok too but could use a bit of spice if only they would put some sambal into it and it would be perfect. It was a suprise that the rice cubes had a bit of santan (coconut milk) in it.

For mains we got the char grilled pork cutlet which was very tasty. Grilled well and it was juicy and full of flavour.

The other main was the tamarind fish (assam fish). Felt there was too much tamarind and too sour to our liking in terms of flavour. Probably balancing either a bit of spice or some lime.

Overall the food was a good experience. However I feel they are very new to the business.

Table setting could use a change. I thought it was weird to have plates paired with chopsticks as the base setting. You would probably be better of with just a simple fork and spoon or pair the chopsticks with a bowl instead.

We felt that the whole deco while really nice and exquisite, the furniture remnants from the old ughyur eatery, it didnt quite gel with the kind of food served. Not a biggy but if you wanna get more people in, the place looks a tad too fancy.

Start doing lunch maybe have set lunches? Increase your malaysian hawker fare because from your entrees I feel you've got your flavours right.

We will be back again to try out the rest of the menu!
Paul James Richards
Masak Ku. This is a nice new restaurant with a good mix of value choices among more expensive ones. I haven't particularly enjoyed the food (things I've tried include the Laksa and the Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice) but maybe I've been making some poor menu choices! In any case, it's a nice place to spend an hour or so. The staff are very friendly.
Sario13
Best Malaysian. We visited Melbourne last weekend and our Malaysian friend took us to this restaurant. We ordered a few entree which were satay skewers, roti canai, and beef curry puff. They were absolutely yummy, especially the curry puffs we had to order for another serve.
We had Char kway teow, Kalantan chicken, beef rangdang and chicken & potato curry for main. When the Char Kway teow came out from the kitchen, everyone in the restaurant could smell the dish which was nice. Beef rangdang was a hit because it was spicy but not too spicy for us because we are Thai. Kalantan chicken was good aswell they served with 2 big chicken merrylands dizzle with mild curry sauce.
We will go to this restaurant again whenever we go to Melbourne.
Absolutely love it....

Malaysian food cravings. Food here reminds me of home. i love the crispy roti with curry and beef rendang..and the homemade lychee ice cream too - yumm!
Bighazza
A lovely ambiance. We enjoyed every dish, from the delicate stuffed quail to the full flavoured sambal eggplant. We will be back for both the durian and lychee icecream, made in-house.
Yabba Dabba Doo
Really enjoyed this restaurant. Very authentic Malaysian food, well presented, and excellent service. Highlights for me were the roti chennai, so light and tasty! Also the succulent satay chicken, and a home made lychee ice cream. (I guess I loved everything!!) The decor is modern and inviting. A lovely place to dine with friends. BYO and licensed. I'll definitely be back to try some more of their menu. Masak Ku is a class act at moderate prices.
Calamity Jane
Must-try Restaurant. I've eaten here a few times now. The food is beyond amazing and very reasonably priced. I've been served the best Roti I've ever had - so light and crispy! The Beef Rendang is rich and tender, the Satay Chicken is to die for! I had an eggplant dish (can't remember the name) that was amazing. The Calamari is flavoursome and has the best texture - melts in your mouth. And for dessert, don't think I'll ever forget that home-made Chocolate Chili Icecream - so, so yum! The service is friendly, welcoming and efficient. The menu is child-friendly and also has decent gluten-free and vegetarian options. Great attention has been paid to the modern decor and ambience and it's truly a pleasure to dine here. I will definitely be back and will be recommending to all of my friends!

Really good food, friendly service and great value for money. Ka fantastic addition to an area that has been dominated by stodgy and overpriced restaurants for too long. And yes, it is BYO.

Great dining experience!. Went to Masak Ku with a large group and had an excellent time.
We tried a range of dishes, all of which were delicious, fresh and superbly presented. The Malaysian members of party labelled the food the most authentic they've had in Melbourne!
The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and the service is attentive and friendly.
A great addition to Camberwell!

Authentic Malaysian flavour!. We went on opening night on the 31st of March, and again tonight and have been extremely impressed with our dining experience.

From the tastefully decorated interior and ambience to the service and food itself, this place is one place not to miss.

The food is cooked to perfection with authentic Malaysian flavours. As Malaysians ourselves, it is testament to the cooks in being able to being bring out these flavours.

For any Malaysian craving a good dose of "Char Kuay Teow", this is definitely a place to come and get your fill! One other thing not to miss is their home-made ice-cream, we had lychee, chocolate/chilli, and even the (Malaysian) kopi ice-cream are superb.

Make sure you give this place a go at least once (you probably will be back again like us)!

Best restaurant experience in a while. Best ever in Camberwell!. 4 of us went in on a Saturday night not knowing what to expect given the place only opened the Monday prior. It was awesome!

We ordered 4 entrees and 3 mains which in the end turned out to be the perfect amount.

It's hard to say what was best as it was all so good. However, the 'Chicken 55' as an entree was so tender and tasty while my favourite main was the 'Hokkein Fried Noodles'. It was saucy but not too much that the other flavours were drowned out.

The service was also tops. However, there was only 2 people working in the dining area so I think if it got too busy they could be swamped. Based on our experience, everything was fine though.

The ambience was good with a mix of music and the place is clean and has a modern, clean feel.

All in all, I'd recommend this place without a second thought.

Great food, great service!. Came over with a bunch of friends for dinner and realized its the opening day. To begin with, the service was amazing, the family style restaurant creates a warm welcoming atmosphere.

Now the food: the menu wasn't too lavish, but the food had exceeded much of our expectations. The flavours were full, the pork was cooked to perfection in malaysian style and the butter prawns were crisp and juicy. For the price we paid, it was definitely value for money. Will definitely recommend anyone to this Malaysian restaurant!

No MSG & good food!. I was around Camberwell with a few friends the other day and came across a restaurant with nice deco situated next to the station - so we gave it a try.

Food was tasty just like many Malaysian restaurants, particularly enjoyed the seafood dishes (Butter Prawn and Sambal Fish)! One thing worth noting is, NO MSG and there was definitely enough flavouring for their dishes.

If you do crave for Malaysian food in Camberwell, it is definitely worth a visit!

Masak Ku serves Malaysian cuisine with influences from Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisines as Malaysian dishes usually are in one way or another. It’s not your typical Malaysian restaurant as the ambiance and quality of the food caters towards a more upper market demographic but if the food is great, sometimes forking out that bit extra is worth it.
