Review Haiku - Camberwell

Russ Yeo Joon Yoon
Hibiki was great. nice atmosphere and cozy/warm. friendly staffs and a variety of choice of coffee. Average flavour -i have noticed that Barnstaple steamed milk a lot and poured it It was busy morning and I understood. Love to go back and try food. Bought bag of coffee beans and it was good.

If you love Japanese cuisine and speciality coffee, Hibiki is the cafe for you. They have an exciting menu of delicious food and excellent filter and espresso coffees that encourage repeated visits. I had the Hibiki Curry and the Scattered Sushi Bowl, and I highly recommend both. Their coffees were also on point! The service is friendly and the wait time for food is pretty good even during the busy period. Make sure you check out the Japanese grocery store next store where you can find Japanese items and coffee beans.

Definitely a hidden gem of Japanese restaurant. The Teishoku is the best. It is really a traditional Japanese set meal with different side dishes, miso soup and grilled salmon. Salmon are cooked to perfection, and side dishes are just perfect match in the meal. I usually don't mention much of miso soup, but this restaurant is different. They made their own miso soup with heaps of flavors and ingredients, which gave me a nice surprise. I really enjoyed. The serving equipments also very unique and pretty. Scattered sushi bowl also really good, especially chicken karaage. Crunchy outside, soft inside. Rice also with quinoa, which made the meal more texture. Hojicha latte also made with tea leaf, not very strong flavors, but taste good. Sakura latte is quite sweet, but very pretty. This restaurant have plenty of outdoor seating (front and back) and indoor seating. Staff are friendly. They also sell bakery item and takeaway bento, sando next door. Plenty of variety for everyone. Will definitely come back to try other menu item. Street parking available nearby. Tram stop in front. Very convenient.

Had a spontaneous dinner at Hibiki's. Loved every bit of it. Very different & unique type of Japanese food that isn't common. Definitely come back for more.

I liked the japanese fusion brunch/lunch menu, with so many interesting dishes on the menu, it was not an easy decision. Seeing the visual menu using the QR code helped a lot on deciding what to have. The nori pesto clam udon has very lovely strong seaweed flavour, loved it. The matcha and hojicha latte's milk was done well, but I found them to be lacking of tea flavour. The staff were lovely and it had very quick service!

Really nice place with simple interior design. Menu items are very simple, yet look and taste great. Coffees were really nice and smooth. Service was great as well from all staff. Can't wait to try this place for the evening. Pictured is the Beef Bulgogi Benedicto and matcha and Cherry Blossom lattes. Nice texture in the Benedicto, never had a rice combo from a cafe but was nice.

Over all nice experience, cool selection of Japanese fusion but I was a little disappointed with the teishoku I ordered as the salmon was really the only part of it that made the dish and the sides were very basic and not too tasty. Rice wasn't warm either, would have loved a miso or something to make it feel more like a teishoku. The mushroom toastie with the renkon chips were great though!

I tried their curry and it was delicious! Can’t wait to try other menu. The service was just amazing!! I definitely recommend this café!

really lovely, caring staff and a super aesthetic interior! feels like good, home cooked japanese food that’s been elevated a little bit with premium ingredients. definitely worth a visit!! <br/>

Hibiki is one of my friends favourite cafes, so I was pretty excited when a couple of friends and I decided to go for a Sunday brunch outing. <br/>There were so many amazing sounding meals on the menu. I decided on the Kimchi Shakshuka with added feta and was not disappointed. It was so hearty and full of flavour - I absolutely loved it and it warmed me up on a cold winters day. It was a generous serving size and great value for money.<br/>We did have to wait over half an hour for a table, but it was worth it for the meal I had. <br/>I look forward to returning in the future.

Our visit to hibiki was amazing and we were presented with very innovative asian-inspired dishes. The udon carbonara was delicious, creamy and full of flavour and I loved the addition of the egg yolk and crunchy rice puff. The beef cheek benedict was also good but barely had any yuzu hollandaise, which was a little disappointing. Both dishes were very rich and filling (might be too heavy for breakfast/lunch but that's just our preference!). The matcha latte was also nice, smooth and creamy. Would definitely come back to try out their others dishes!

I had a lot of thoughts after dining in at hibiki, so i will go ahead and list the pros and cons:<br/>Pros ✅✅<br/>-Excellent service, excellent setup and atmosphere<br/>-Love their menu with a variety of modern japanese inspired "brunch style" food which sets itself well apart from others. Has me wanting to try everything<br/>-Extremely well priced- huge portions for the quality of food you"re getting <br/><br/>Cons 🚫<br/>-Unfortunately although the food was still quite tasty, i thought it wasnt mindblowingly amazing to justify lining up >30 mins on a weekend<br/>-The braised beef cheeks were very soft, however the combination of miso and soy glazed onigiri + croutons was quite salty, and there wasnt enough of the yuzu hollandaise for it to be prominent enough in the dish<br/>- The okonimiyaki itself was quite bland, its drenched in the sauce which I understand is how its supposed to be and is what makes the dish what it is, however this overpowered the yakisoba (making it hiroshima style okonimiyaki) which was also quite bland. The bacon was just way too dry as well. <br/>-The hamburg was also a bit dry and not substantial enough for the burger. Im also confused as to what the sauce adds to the dish? <br/>-Credit where credits due, the karaage was super delicious. Crispy and a burst full of flavour with every bite. The soba was also quite nice and light, i thought the stock used to dress the soba was very palatable and not overly salty. <br/><br/>All in all, a great cafe-turned izakaya style diner by night (which ill definitely come back for)! The menu definitely has the lure of making me come back for more. The dishes were great don't get me wrong, but i think they can be better! <br/><br/>

Hibiki is a great place to eat out whether it is for brunch, breakfast, a quick coffee stop, lunch or a fancy dinner (only on some days!). We ordered the crispy lotus chips which were seasoned nicely and came with mayo, the miso risotto and curry gratin. The miso risotto definitely stood out the most; the flavour of the miso infused into the rice was delicious in each bite. The curry gratin too was great, the brown rice was nice and quite al dente which complimented the grilled cheese and chicken nicely. To top it off we ordered the mochi donut. It was deep fried and the vanilla-kinako ice cream just made it complete! Would definitely come back for brunch again but make a booking as space is limited!

What a cute little place to break our restaurant drought, post covid-19 lockdown restrictions. Situated on Toorak Rd camberwell. The decor and mood in here are cute and the staff are to match. Polite and accommodating - especially to me (pregnant) asking questions to avoid raw food. My only complaint is that we got way too much food! In the image is a beef and pork Pattie on rice with veg (hambargu teishoku) which was excellent, and their spin of a chicken curry (hibiki curry gratin)... with bonus melted cheese on top- Excellent addition! <br/>These two mains would have sufficed but we had also put a serious dent in our appetites with renkon chips and pork belly skewers which were all excellent. Would have loved more sauce on the renkon chips though- it was divine! Am fascinated that this place also does breakfast and will definitely head back to try out the breakfast menu! <br/>

These guys tick all the boxes! Have recently starting getting takeaway coffee alot more from here since the lock down, we picked up dinner last night from Hibiki and it was amazing! Carbonara and Japanese curry I highly recommend and we got the donuts for dessert. Thanks for doing such an amazing job during this time, keep doing what you're doing ❤❤❤❤

I love that the food is different to your standard brunch location but still tasty. Menu is intriguing and service was good😊

Best brunch place ever!!!

Had been eyeing on this cafe for ages and finally gave it a try. Food was okay, the added Japanese flare made it less basic but nothing too special. The service was a let down. There was no greeting at the door even though there was a staff standing right there. We had to approach them to get a table. Service wasn’t attentive, no cutlery after we ordered our meals, water bottle wasn’t replenished in the middle of our meal. It remained empty up until we left. It was not busy so this level of service is disappointing for a cafe this popular.

we came on a Sunday afternoon and was lucky enough to not wait too long for a seat of 3 especially when it gets really packed. We waited for approximately one hour for our food to arrive so I suggest you to not come here if you’re super hangry like us! Do not get their beef bowl, it was nothing like I imaged. Weird tasting flavours, the rice or grains looked like something a parrot would eat. It was hard to swallow because the grains was so hard.. Beef was too tender and had no flavour. Too bland. They also gave us the wrong order and had to exchange that. The Udon carbonara was okay, it was more on the creamier side. Nothing special as it didn’t have much flavour also. Last but not least, the star of the show was the soufflé pancakes. pearls were really soft and chewy which complimented well with the light fluffy pancakes. Not sweet for the palette so I was happy about that . Definately overrated unfortunately.

I have been to Hibiki a few times before for brunch and enjoyed the food, so have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to come back for dinner. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by poor and inattentive service, which resulted in us getting our own plates and cutlery + no water for the table (thank god for zomato gold’s 2+2 on drinks?).<br/><br/>Rating it a three due to a well cooked okonomiyaki and karaage chicken (although slightly more expensive than competitive restaurants). We also order the salmon tartare (I think they were trying for an asian fusion dish but ended up a weird mexican salsa with lukewarm salmon :/) and the gyukatsu (cooked well but very under-seasoned, almost bland..) <br/><br/>Probably won’t be back for dinner but Hibiki will have a soft spot in my brunch-loving heart.

Quite decent brunch cafe with original and Japanese orientated food. Nice vibe and great service from the staffs. As my perception of brunch is quite "Western Style" based, I found it slightly too much Japanese based, but it's only me and I still enjoyed it fair bit. Sakura latte and scattered sushi bowl are highly recommended.

Sixth time here and the food and service never disappoint. Tried the new soufflĂŠ pancake and it was divine. Love everything about this place and the friendly service makes me want to come back for more.

Rate: 4.2/5<br/>☆彡 Came here for Tuesday late lunch - was lucky to get instant seating for 2 at the bench! It was quite busy! We ordered: Smashed in Japan, Udon carbonara<br/><br/>☆ The good:<br/>- Avo smash was delicious: fusion REALLY WORKED WELL here, the mushroom skewer had some addicting umami flavour, and the avocado had lemony/seaweed flavour dimensions which combined with the nori paste on the crunchy sourdough slice, perfectly! <br/>- udon carbonara was delicious<br/>- extensive menu with lots of very unique and tempting dishes all at reasonable price<br/>- really nice presentations of food + decor/tableware<br/><br/>☆ Not so good:<br/>- there was quite a long wait<br/>- wished there was bigger portion of smashed avo in the Smashed in Japan (was left with too much toast) :(<br/><br/>☆彡 Overall, definitely coming back - hopefully will be lucky to secure a spot instantly again! cant wait to try menu options before they change again! ^_- ~

Loved my kansai’s takoyaki with grilled halloumi (extra $4) for lunch today! The poached eggs were perfect and the grilled flat bread with kewpie mayo went perfectly with my halloumi! Will definitely be back to try the other dishes!

Buddha bowl with tuna is excellent, healthy and delicious. The slow cook lamb is very tasteful. But the drinks can be improved.

Very average. Nothing worth going back for. I like they put mochi in their oknomyaki because I love things that are squishy and chewy. The skewers have good charcoal flavor but lack seasoning and that’s coming from a person who likes mild tasting food. Karaage ok, had plenty restaurants make just like that. Omurice looks wonderful but taste very ordinary, they tried to do the omelette the way they do in japan but when the egg was cut open it doesn’t split on it’s on and the server has to push the egg open. Nice decor, host was friendly.

I have been wanting to visit Hibiki for the longest time but only had a short while before a hair appointment nearby. I grabbed a strong almond milk latte and a carrot cake take away to eat while my hair was coloured. My coffee was lovely, strong smooth and creamy. The carrot cake fresh and delicious, next time I will be earlier so I can try out the menu before getting to the hairdressers. I have heard some really great things about this place, so far I’m not disappointed.<br/>KD

Food is really good, coffee is nice. Friendly staff. Will definitely come back

Came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was busy inside and we waited 15 minutes for a table (we had seating by the window). Very worth the short wait - I had the Tokyo Roll & my partner had the Japanese Lobster Roll. The meals were delicious and we will definitely be back!

We couldn't eat anything for the rest of the day, after had this awful brunch. Rating of 4.6 is a joke

Such an interesting and unique brunch menu. The service was great here and the food was unreal. One of the better breakfasts in Melbourne!
The Brunchabout Diaries
I have been to Hibiki for both brunch and dinner and been extremely satisfied both times. For brunch I got the Hibiki Benedict - the flavour combo was absolutely delicious and the rice was a lovely alternative to traditional bread. We got the lotus root chips also, which were crispy and had great mayo and sriracha sauces on top.<br/><br/>For dinner, I got the charred edamame, Karaage chicken, omu rice and okonomoyaki (which I think was my favourite). The karaage chicken was nice and crispy and the edamame had a lovely salty, charred taste to it. The omu rice comes with a soft omelette on top which they cut in front of you. <br/><br/>Only problem with Hibiki is that it can get packed and you might need to wait for a seat (but only goes to show how great it is)!

I ordered:<br/>- 1 x Hojichai Latte<br/>- 1 x Matcha Latte<br/>- 1 x Lobster Roll<br/>- 1 x Lamb Benedict<br/>- 1 x Kinoko Collection<br/>- 1 x Lychee & Berries Smoothie<br/>- 1 x Kuro Goma n Peanut Butter<br/><br/>The hojichai was sweet and milky with mild cinnamon flavour. The matcha latte had too much cinnamon which over powered the matcha flavour. Poppy seeds in the lychee smoothie made for an interesting texture, but the flavours were nothing unusual.<br/><br/>Lobster roll was tasty but was a little messy to eat. The flavour and texture of the roll was good, but liquid dripped from it as I ate. <br/><br/>The Kinoko Collection was nice and filling. Good serving size and flavours. Mushrooms were seasoned well. <br/><br/>Lamb Benedict was quite underwhelming. The flavours were a little bland and uninteresting. Would not reorder. <br/><br/>We ordered one of the drinks for takeaway and it was brought to our table in a dine-in glass and a separate plastic takeaway cup was provided. This was extremely inconvenient and a lot of the drink ended up being spilled onto the table during the transfer. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

Hey, a big shout out to this cafe because they have amazing services and also mouthwatering dishes! Tried the kinoko collection and also curry rice 🍛, not to forget the cheese toast too! They are all delicious. Used zomato gold for 2+2 drinks. Will be back again in anytime soon. Cheers!

Curry rice and egg benny is really nice! Love the ceramics as well.<br/>Gorgeous Japanese fusion cafe. They offer seasonal coffee from Japan as well.

Deep fried enoki was just too oily and my stomach didn’t feel well.

A little bit disappointing. We hope this feedback in taken on as constructive and applied. <br/><br/>We decided to try this venue and being a Japanese style cafe, brought some Japanese friends. On arrival the welcoming was cold, uninterested and a little awkward. <br/><br/>The whole theme of the place is great. Love the wood and plants. Nothing really hit the spot though. There was no love. <br/><br/>Toilets were very dirty, bucket and mop in the corner. Take away sushi is uncovered and placed on top of the glass counter where people stand, pay and talk over.<br/><br/>Hojicha French toast bread tasted a bit stale. Presentation of the food was brilliant but the experience changed once we started eating. Love the cups used for hot drinks but the size was slightly small. Especially the latte being 30% smaller than other places. <br/><br/>After seeing your Instagram page, we really wanted to visit but left feeling like we will most likely not return. <br/><br/>We can see that someone has put a lot of thought Md effort into creating this business but at some stage, the care factor has dropped. It’s a real shame. Could’ve been a great experience.

Absolutely fantastic coffee, some of the best I've had in Melbourne. Staff are very friendly and efficient, always making you feel welcome even when it's busy. Honey toast is to die for! I get it every time and nowhere else can compare! It's almost a cross between a large cinnamon donut and French toast, with the perfect amount of fresh fruit and ice cream.

Beautiful Japanese inspired brunch. Coffee is very decent. Kinoko collection is utterly delicious, a must try dish for mushroom lovers. We found Hokkaido Lamb Benedicto is a bit salty for our liking.

Hibiki has been on my list for a long time, always so packed even early in the morning. We came at around 10ish and luckily got the last table available for 2 and sat down straight away. There’s plenty on the menu I wish I could try, but in the end I chose okonomiyaki and houjicha latte. Flavour was amazing, demolished everything quickly as it was incredbly delicious. Initially my first impression was that the portion is on the smaller side but we were actually quite full in the end. I do wish the cups for the drinks were slightly bigger, lattes are on the smaller side<br/>Would love to come back and try other things on the menu especially dinner!

I visited this Japanese cafe and it’s been on my list for a while now so when I walked in I managed to get the last seat in the house, thanks to the lovely waitress I was stoked.. Thank you. <br/><br/>The service was friendly and efficient. I ordered a pale ale beer but I was given a dark ale instead lol oh well it was a cold winters day! <br/><br/>The menu had some amazing dishes available making it very difficult to choose, ah first world problems, but exciting at the same time. <br/><br/>I ended up ordering the Kinoko Collection which was a vegetarian dish consisting of sautéed soy butter, Japanese mushrooms w Japanese milk toast, poached egg, crispy enoki tempura, crispy kale, saltbush leaves, dried cranberries w a mushroom mousse. <br/><br/>When this dish hit my table I knew that this was going to be a special dish and I wasn’t disappointed. The mushrooms were amazing, full of buttery flavour! Perfect. <br/><br/>The Japanese milk toast was served thick yet it was soft in the middle and it had a great crust. <br/><br/>The poached egg was runny and golden and it was sooo good! The enoki tempura was crispy and the rest of the dish brought everything together. Wow!<br/><br/>This cafe is apparently opening for dinner soon, which is great. The atmosphere was friendly, chillaxing and casual. <br/><br/>This place is a must visit.

I love the food even they don’t have Zomato gold I still go and recommend it to so much friends, and might be go here once a week but, yes everything is coming with but, can I give u a suggestion, the service need improve and something might change new style something more fresh to cafe

Hibiki Camberwell is a busy little cafe located along a pretty busy road.. we didn’t have time to wait for a table and decided to just sit on one of their tables in front of the cafe.. we had the seared tuna tataki bowl & okonomiyaki which was pretty good and the ingredients were quite fresh too.. we also tried their magic coffee & matcha latte.. we love the seared tuna bowl which came with great presentation & overall tastes awesome.. the combination really suit my liking.. I always love a good japanese style brunch..<br/>Very enjoyable and will definitely come back again..

The food is definitely interesting and unique. The service is great! Only problem is that I was charged for a coffee that was cancelled and didn't know until afterwards when I was sorting out bill payments with my family. Wish I was given the itemized bill beforehand but I trusted that I would have been charged correctly. Will check the bill before paying next time.

**4.5**<br/>The food was really good and I can't wait to be back to try out other stuff on the menu. Everything sounds so yum but I only have one tummy :'). It was also nice that I get to change the poached eggs on my dish to scrambled eggs, which a lot of the cafes don't especially on weekends. The food took awhile to come but as long as it's good I wouldn't really mind it.
Eating Happiness
Went here for a brunch on a Saturday morning. The place is definitely very popular, especially on a weekend, so definitely be prepared for a wait if you’re going at a popular brunch time.<br/><br/>For two, we ordered:<br/>- Smashed in Japan: this dish was very flavourful and had many delightful components. The lotus chips was a very delicious crunchy element and had a nice taste to it as well. There was also two mushrooms on a kebab, and these two, although might look small, were very flavourful. They tasted like it had a sweet teriyaki sauce on it, which was a nice contrast from the smashed avo. The smashed avo itself was delicious as well, especially combined with the radish hummus.<br/><br/>-Kinoki collection: this dish also had a lot of different textures on it. The bread was a very fat slice of bread, but wasn’t dry at all. The crispy kale leaves also added a salty element on the dish and had a good contrast with the soft stir fry mushrooms. The mushrooms were very flavourful and definitely satisfies your savoury pallet. The enoki fried fan was also very tasty, and almost had the same texture as fried, but a bit softer from the enoki mushroom itself. However, when our dish came out, there was a bug on our enoki fan, which was a bit of a let down. After alerting the staff though, they were happy to give us a new enoki fan, so we still got to taste the enoki fan, which I’m glad we didn’t miss out on.<br/><br/>Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit and would definitely come back!

Was highly disappointed with the service of this place despite the decent food and drinks. Waited outside in the cold for 1hr for a table to seat 5 adults 1 child because they no longer take bookings over the weekends despite a big group (while they still honoured the bookings made previously, really poor transition phase. Pick a cut off date for no bookings moving forward because it looks highly unfair for some to wait while others to just go straight in). Staff didn’t even offer if we wanted to have a cup of coffee to start with while we waited. Eventually got seated at the bar with 5 bar stools but no high chair nor extra stool for kid! Staff reply was “because we had u down on our waitlist as 5”. They obv just wrote 5 adults and forgetting the +1 kid but Hello? Couldn’t you count there were 6 of us? The whole time we were waiting just outside ur door?We then asked the staff to move us somewhere so we could ALL have a seat and they offered us two joint tables good for 4 saying we would have to sit 3 adults at the bench which clearly was hard and still no seat for the kid! In the end we had to put our foot down, waited further for a bigger table to be cleared so all 6 of us could have a seat! If it wasn’t because a couple of friends had travelled the distance, we would have left. <br/><br/>Felt unvalued as customers, the servers don’t seem to have logical sense or courtesy to apologise for the error or initiative to offer drinks while we wait or even to hunt down a high chair. Would we go back or recommend this place? A definite NO.

Extreme value for the delicious food we had. Despite being a busy day, food was delivered promptly with good service. Coffee was also so fragrant we had seconds!

Arrived at 10am and Hibiki was half full- phew. This place is notorious for its long waiting list so I was pretty pleased with the sacrifice of some sleep!<br/>Zomato gold took me to this cafe and I’m glad it did. Hibiki serves oat milk by Minor Figures-my absolute favourite. Coffee was good. Favourite dish of the day is the Kinoko Collection. A must try for mushroom lovers. This meal is portioned well and so beautiful! I enjoyed the onigirazu as well but the ebi burger was a let down. Very ordinary and will not order it again. Will definitely visit again to try everything else in the menu!

Planning to come here on a weekend? Then don’t come hungry 😰<br/><br/>FOOD: We ordered the Shibuya French Toast and the Pork Shoulder Benedicto. The Shibuya French Toast was absolutely delicious! The milk toast was done amazingly, the matcha custard was heavenly, the houjicha ice cream was so so good and every element of this dish was wonderful! If you’re a sweet tooth and you wanna switch it up from regular french toast or pancakes, I’d recommend the Shibuya French Toast. The Pork Shoulder Bendicto was .... interesting. It’s slightly strange to have an eggs benedict on top of rice, it almost taste more like an onigiri than eggs benedict so if you rly like eggs benedict, this might be the dish for you but personally, we found the combination slightly weird and a far stretch from benedict. The food did take forever to come as it was a Sunday and it was full to the brim so we waited around 40-50 minutes for our dishes. <br/><br/>SERVICE : The service was ... good at times but also really bad at times. While my friend was waiting to get a table, she told me 3 servers walked past here while making eye contact, knowing she’s waiting for a table. When we tried to pour out water, a bug came out which was... a huge turn off. Though when I asked to change the ice cream, they were really kind about it so thank you. The hygiene should be improved.<br/><br/>Hibiki is a cafe I’ve always wanted to try and though the Milk Toast didn’t disappoint me, the service did. Also, if you come during the weekend for brunch do prepare for a 40-60 minute wait. Good luck.

I loved this small cafe, it was decorated quite beautifully and the atmosphere was great. The staff were friendly, service and food was fast, and the coffee and selections of cakes and things up the front had a variety that all looked amazing. We ordered the Benedicto and Kinoko Collection. I have to say the Kinoko Collection was absolutely delicious, with the Japanese milk toast. I loved the crunchy enoki mushroom, with the other salty mushrooms with cranberries, all going extremely well together. The only critique would be that it was quite a small cafe and I noticed plenty of people lining up, obviously showing how popular it was, but also meaning that some people had to wait for a bit of time. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend and come back :)
Rin
Love the kinoko collection. The dishes are made so creatively and with a lot of different textures. Hojichai latte was interestingly tasty and so was the the rice roll with smoked salmon and pickled onions. We also tried the ebi burger which was just alright.

Walked in on a Saturday morning hungry and left satisfied.<br/>The cafe was packed full of people and we were lucky to get a place by the bench. We ordered the black sesame smoothie bowl, the chicken katsu burger, and some lotus root fries. They were all great and were well-sized. We also had one of the spritz and felt that it went especially well with the chicken katsu burger, with the sweet, slight tang and sparkle from the drink balancing out and cutting through the fatty fried chicken, offering a reprieve after each bite.<br/><br/>The smoothie bowl was good, with a decent amount of toppings, and was fresh.<br/><br/>We felt that the lotus root fries were sized well, and was just right, in terms of texture, and was not too oily.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was nice, with the bright and airy feeling from the large windows, yet with a hustle and bustle kinda vibe from the constant flow of people, and the kind and friendly staff.<br/><br/>All in all, I'd say hibiki is definitely worth a visit!

Such a refreshing take on Japanese influenced Cafè food. Had the kinoko collection and the pork shoulder Benedicto, both were delicious! They have few tables, the place is warm and light filled.

Been here before for brunch and was a great experience. But let's talk about their dinner service. <br/><br/>We were happy to find out they did dinner, as we really enjoyed the brunch food. Since they also have Zomato Gold, we decided to give dinner a try, and must say we were not disappointed👌<br/><br/>We ordered the Yakitori (chicken skewers), Omurice (omelette rice), Swordfish & tamago (egg) dessert. Firstly the Yakitori was nicely grilled and well seasoned. The Omurice came out like the ones you see on YouTube with them slicing the egg apart for it to cover the rice, it was very good and the egg was the highlight of the dish, so fluffy and creamy🤤 <br/>The swordfish was really well seasoned and very tasty, lastly the tamago toast dessert was definitely the highlight of night😜 massive slice of tamago with a good level of sweetness, the toast had a nice butter layer that have it a salty taste which paired with the sweetness of the tamago, balanced it very well! <br/><br/>Food: very delicious and wanting more. <br/>Service: tentative wait staff, but meals did take a little longer to come out. <br/>Price: with Zomato Gold it was great value for money!<br/><br/>Will definitely come back to try other dishes soon!

Great food! Love the mushroom dish with fried enoki, medley of different fungus and toasted bread. Also had the french toast which was lovely and fried chicken burger.

*Rating: 4.5*<br/>I'm glad Hibiki made it onto the Zomato Gold menu (not that I needed any extra incentive to return!). This gem of a place has subtle Japanese flavours infused into the dishes. I highly recommend the Kinoko collection with added salmon (albeit being a small portion). The mugs had an authentic feel which was a warming touch. The pork shoulder benedicto was nice, however would have preferred a Jap korokke instead of rice.

Food is very good and staff are all friendly. proportion is also very satisfied. Quite busy Saturday noontime but I am not surprised. I sure will come back again.

Ordered the Honey Toast and Okonomiyaki, both were pretty good though okonomiyaki portion could probably go a tad bigger :) Latte and Matcha latte was good! Place was clean and was a cute little cafe. Would definitely come back!

Visited this place over the weekend and I can’t rave about it enough. I love the cool decor of the place and the staff are so friendly. There was a queue out the door when we arrived on a Sunday but we only waited about 15 minutes before we were seated. <br/>We ordered the kinoko collection (mushrooms with Japanese milk toast, poached egg, kale, dried cranberries and fernented mushroom mousse), the smashed in Japan (avocado, mushrooms, poached egg, lotus root chips, garlic beetroot hummus, sourdough) and for dessert we had the shibuya honey toast. <br/>All of the dishes were so delicious, balanced, complex and full of texture. They were also presented beautifully. I especially loved the thick Japanese milk toast which was fluffy and delicious. I could not fault a thing.<br/>We also ordered the filtered coffee which was aromatic and made with a Japanese roast. We also had the hojicha latte which was creamy and well-brewed. <br/>I am looking forward to coming back soon!

[Overall Rating: 8.5/10]<br/>Modern, clean and unique cafe that offers delicious Asian fusion brunch food! If you're sick of the usual smashed avo, pork belly, eggs Benedict, etc this cafe will definitely be a great new experience!<br/><br/>[Recommended]<br/>✔️Middle Meets East: This plate is pleasing to the eyes, to the taste buds and most importantly the tummy, tum tum! It has so many elements to the dish thats very well thought out and when thrown together, it makes an excellent and very well balanced plate. You have to order it to know what I mean! Love the bread, the fried potato and perfectly poached eggs!<br/>✔️Yakiniku Beef Bowl: Again, this dish is put together nicely with an array of different ingredients to give a nice texture and honest flavours - crispy kales, puffed rice, slices of marinated beef.<br/>✔️Shiroyuzu Smoothie: A refreshing yet heavy bodied drink that will definitely fill you up. Given the two dishes mentioned above were not overly heavy, this drink definitely completes the meal. Yum!<br/><br/>[Not Recommended]<br/>❌Nil so far.<br/><br/>[Service/Restaurant]<br/>Attentive and friendly staff. Background music can be a little loud which can be quite distracting during a conversation. Comfortable cafe with modern and simple decor. A place worth visiting/recommending, we will definitely be back to try the other dishes!

A little bit of a disappointing visit. The food was good, and the staff were friendly, but unfortunately did not make up for the fact that we felt like we were rushed out. I booked a table about a month ago, and after an hour we were told there was another booking and we had to leave. So we were unable to order any desserts or extra drinks. It would be nice if when you book a table, you were informed beforehand how long you have allocated, and even better if you could have at least a couple of hours before you were pushed out.

The food was pretty good and the staff were friendly. However it was very disappointing to find that we had booked a table for 6 people one month in advance - only to be told within an hour of arriving that we had to leave as they had another group waiting for a table. We were rushed out of the restaurant before we’d barely gulped down the last of our meal with no time for coffee or cake - it looks like they had promised the table to another waiting group without telling us.<br/>If you take a group booking you should allow at least a couple of hours otherwise at least tell them there is a maximum of one hour at the time the booking is made.<br/>

All looks good. But breakfast doesn’t tasty. Lunch is better than brekkie. May go there for lunch in future but definitely not brekkie. <br/>The restaurant is busy and service is fine. Japanese style.

Fantastic experience at Hibiki Camberwell ! Staff were friendly and helpful in recommending their popular dishes. The smashing japan dish was unlike any other smashed avo I’ve eaten before. (and I’ve had my fair share of eating smashed av) The lotus roots gave great texture and crunch to the dish, paired with the juicy mushrooms to top off the meal. Just smashing! Definitely coming back to try everything else they have to offer !
Eating Away Melbourne
Have only been there for coffees before and its always been nice. Booked dinner and it turned out be a great night out. <br/><br/>We ordered the turkish bread, silky tofu, lobster sandwich, pork belly rice, wagyu beef tartare and eggplant. Everything was so great! Amazing flavours that you don't really get much from other places. Loved the lobster sandwich the most, quite a bit of lobster in it as well which is an add on!! Drinks were nice too, I had a umeshu and a sake, the only complain was the drinks were a bit small.. <br/><br/>Service was very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend it!!<br/> <br/><br/>Went for breakfast last weekend and loved it as well!! Sakura latte was so nice with soy milk, my smashed avo was amazing as well plus the cauliflower tempura!!

One of my new favourite brunch spots in Melbourne. @hibiki.melbourne has a great selection of Japanese breakfast and lunch options sure to satisfy your whole clan. The Tokyo roll was my pick with halloumi, korreke (Japanese potato croquette), egg, bacon with a buttery brioche bun accompanied by lotus chips! .<br/>.<br/>.<br/>#fooodonmymind #foodporn #visitvictoria #melbourne #brunch #melbournefoodie #melbourneeats #melbournelunch #melbournebreakfast #japanese #camberwell #eatguide #melbournefoodie #dining

Hibiki is a tiny but popular cafĂŠ and bar on Toorak Road, Camberwell. It is Japanese inspired, brunch, lunch, sushi and bar. On a weekday morning, you will still see the tables full, as locals enjoy the Hibiki signature playlist, and the boutique coffee, with innovative fusion meals.

Food was delicious; ordered the kiniko collection and loved every bit of it. My friend ordered the prawn tempura burger w lotus chips which was super yummy too! Great fusion brunch place and need more like that instead of basic smashed avo you find at every other place. <br/>Cute lay out too; sat in the courtyard, really lovely when the weather is sunny and cool! <br/>Staff were friendly.

3.5<br/>Cute Japanese inspired brunch place.<br/><br/>The place doesn't look big from the outside but there was an outdoor area at the back. The area inside was bit cramped though. The outside area was really nice, felt like a picnic. Staffs were friendly, and food was quite a reasonable wait.<br/><br/>The houjicha latte with soy and honey was enjoyable, not to sweet and quite creamy. It's the better ones but not the best as the houjicha could've been more strong.<br/><br/>The kinoko collection was actually an interesting dish with lots of different mushrooms, mushroom paste, deep fried kale and milky toast. However, I find the combination bit too much, because the mushroom itself was quite salty and the toast was also bit heavy with melted butter. I hope it was just a mistake on that day that the mushrooms were that salty. I'm also not really a fan of the deep fried enoki as it made the already heavy dish even heavier. The only thing balancing the dish was the cranberry pieces. Don't get me wrong, it's tasty but only for the first few bites. Also really pretty.<br/><br/>Tried my friend's smashed in Japan and it was a good avo on toast, and this dish was well balanced and quite refreshing.<br/><br/>Overall a really cute Japanese brunch place, my dish wasn't as good but I hope it's just my luck.<br/><br/>( follow for more!✨)<br/><br/>xx,joelle.

The food is great. And the price is reasonable. Good place to share with friends. Will come every week with family and friends. Please come and make a take away.

Always been a fan of japanese food, so i decided to try this japanese inspired cafe. <br/>Overall was pretty good, nice coffee and matcha latte❤️<br/>Tried many dishes, but the scattered sushi with tuna was most delicious for me.

Everything you’d expect from the instagrammable decor. Good coffee and beautiful food. Service was friendly. Burger was a good size and definitely covered all the taste buds. It was a bit cold, so wear a jacket on chiller days.

Absolutely loved this place! Great atmosphere and great food. My breakfast was delicious - really well seasoned mushrooms and a perfectly poached egg. The Japanese curry and lotus root chips were also fantastic. A new favourite cafe to put on our books! We will definitely be back again 😊

A bright, light-filled, airy cafe with great food, I can see why this brunch place has such a high rating! The service was great, despite it being so full, they tried their best to get us a seat ASAP, even rearranging table orientations. You can even make bookings on weekends for groups of >4 people <br/><br/>I had the kinoki (mushroom) collection, and it was a great medley of flavours. Love the Japanese milky toast! My bro had the beef bowl, a healthy blend of sliced beef with black rice, and my husband had the okonomiyaki. We shared the tempura broccoli and chicken karaage which was lightly fried.<br/><br/>Overall, this is a great fusion brunch place, with healthy options, and a homey vibe. We will be back!<br/><br/>Hubby says: yummmm<br/>Bro says: one of my fav places to eat

Friendly staff and very helpful. Food is delicious and matcha toastie is definitely needed to try. The custom coffee machine is the delight.

Small and cosy cafe, very friendly staff. I had the Kinoko Collection, absolutely delicious, crunchy assorted mushrooms with japanese milky toast, everything was cooked to perfection. Also one of the best coffee i have ever had!

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday. It was easier than we expected to find a park - snagged one right out the front, which is always a treat. Service was friendly and they found us a table quickly, we were happy we came fairly early as it was pretty busy by the time we left and a few people were waiting for a table.<br/>The menu is good, it was hard to pick what to order so will likely return to try something else.<br/>Would definitely recommend if you're in the area and looking for somewhere tasty!

Love the food. The okonomiyaki was pretty good in Australian standards. Their version of smash avo was tasty and love the lotus roots chips.<br/><br/>The coffee was average. My long black tasted ok on its own,but it gets very wired when you have it with food.
Nini Foodie
One of my favourite cafes in Melbourne - serving some of the most authentic Japanese fusion dishes I’ve ever had. That sounds like an oxymoron but what I mean is that while a lot of cafes take some elements of Japanese food or techniques the dishes they create become something wholly different, whereas at Hibiki you really get the feeling of being in Tokyo and having something not only visually stunning, but tastes amazing as well. <br/><br/>My favourite dishes include their Okonomiyaki, Shibuya Honey Toast and love their hojichai latte, but my favourite dish ever was their spring special Doriyaki Pancakes - absolutely still dream about that dish!!<br/><br/>Definitely check Hibiki out of you love Japanese food because I guarantee you will fall in love! <br/>

The name Hibiki refers to the word echo, which is a perfect match to the soulful tunes played there. The coffee has an interesting and delightful flavour. I also sampled the chocolate peanut butter cup. The decor is serene and beautiful. #hibiki #melbournefood #melbournefoodie

Went to Hibiki for brunch and we ordered Smashed in Japan and Middle Meets East. Both of us love the food and the waitresses were really polite. Great atmosphere and have an amazing backyard.

Absolutely in love with the atmosphere and I can’t wait to try the other dishes. The device was acceptable and the wait time wasn’t long either. <br/><br/>Lotus chips <br/>It was crispy and the heat was perfect along with my favourite kewpie mayo. Maybe topping it off with some bonito flakes could make it even more aesthetic <br/> <br/>Tuna Carpaccio<br/>The barley and the assortment of vegetables created a surprisingly flavourful dish. It had a very rich and deep flavour, despite it being made of only vegetables. The seared tuna coated with sesame was decent, however, the name of this dish is very misleading. Carpaccio are “THINLY SLICED” meat or fish, meanwhile, I got a tuna steak instead. The tuna was also very bland. Perhaps, the tuna could be thinly sliced and placed on top of the barley, with a sprinkle of sesame on top with seasoning or sauce. <br/><br/>Tamagoyaki Sando<br/>It was nice to see Hibiki jumping on the sand craze. The omelette was fluffy and full of umami. Which was well complimented with the subtle tanginess from the pickled daikon tsukemono. The lettuce felt a bit unnecessary, not to say that vegetables aren’t good, but the sando was very unstable, and the lettuce doesn’t help with that. When I took a bite, it just fell apart. The fried burdock was very interesting, it was flavourful and has a nice texture to it as well.

Such an on point on trend cafe for this time. Clearly this place is all about Japan and everything about this place ties back to the theme. The white washed walls provides a canvas for a rotating exhibition of art work that can be purchased. Beautifully prepared meals are presented on earthy crockery that makes it all the more inviting. Hojicha latte is thick on the roasty tea flavor that balanced just right with enough sweetness. Ebi burger is smashing - prawns crumbed in panko makes for a crunchy crunch sandwiched between a spritely coleslaw and toasted brioche style buns. My only wish was more prawns. Well worth a visit.

Hibiki is the perfect marriage of Japanese food and brunch and as a lover of both, I was eager to swing by. Honestly, I could come back order every dish but after much deliberation, my partner and I went with the Ebi Prawn Burger, a Japanese Curry with Korokke and a Lychee n Berries Smoothie. The burger was an absolute treat - the eclectic mix of furikake seasoning, dill tartare, mustard and sesame dressing just somehow worked and made me salivate. A crunchy lotus chip between each bite took the dish to another level. The choice of korokke ('croquette') to go with the curry proved to be a wise one, seamlessly combining with the curry. The healthier brown rice was not my liking but the dish as a whole was undeniably good. The smoothie was creatively and delicately put together and went down very quickly on a very hot day. All-in-all, Hibiki is a delightful and a e s t h e t i c cafe that I will be sure to visit again.<br/>

Hibiki stays true to its rating - interesting and delicious.<br/><br/>The coffee is great. The mushroom collection is both visually beautiful and sophistically delicious. The special croque madamu is a pleasant surprised! It taught you not to judge the book by its cover! It is the most ordinary dish today and yet its taste is not like others! I wish they will put it in their menu so that others can enjoy as well!<br/><br/>Not to mention the service is top notch too! Attentive and yet gentle and friendly.

A Japanese influence cafe. Has a backyard which is pet friendly. Coffee is very decent. Food choice is very fusion Japanese influence on traditional brunch fare. Most surprising and a must try is the special today, a sandwich called ‘Miss Tokyo Madamu’. Looks like a typical boring sandwich but probably the best sandwich I have tried. Talk about Umami! This is from a guy who typically does not like sandwiches. Staff are friendly and generally attentive.

I really liked the variety of Japanese fusion brunch dishes available at this cute cafe in Camberwell.<br/><br/>I ended up getting the Jap pancakes which tasted really nice with the sauce and smoked salmon. Also the hoijichai latte was really delicious 😍 really want to come back to try the other dishes
