Hibiki is one of my friends favourite cafes, so I was pretty excited when a couple of friends and I decided to go for a Sunday brunch outing.
There were so many amazing sounding meals on the menu. I decided on the Kimchi Shakshuka with added feta and was not disappointed. It was so hearty and full of flavour - I absolutely loved it and it warmed me up on a cold winters day. It was a generous serving size and great value for money.
We did have to wait over half an hour for a table, but it was worth it for the meal I had.
I look forward to returning in the future.

Our visit to hibiki was amazing and we were presented with very innovative asian-inspired dishes. The udon carbonara was delicious, creamy and full of flavour and I loved the addition of the egg yolk and crunchy rice puff. The beef cheek benedict was also good but barely had any yuzu hollandaise, which was a little disappointing. Both dishes were very rich and filling (might be too heavy for breakfast/lunch but that's just our preference!). The matcha latte was also nice, smooth and creamy. Would definitely come back to try out their others dishes!

I had a lot of thoughts after dining in at hibiki, so i will go ahead and list the pros and cons:
Pros ✅✅
-Excellent service, excellent setup and atmosphere
-Love their menu with a variety of modern japanese inspired "brunch style" food which sets itself well apart from others. Has me wanting to try everything
-Extremely well priced- huge portions for the quality of food you"re getting

Cons 🚫
-Unfortunately although the food was still quite tasty, i thought it wasnt mindblowingly amazing to justify lining up >30 mins on a weekend
-The braised beef cheeks were very soft, however the combination of miso and soy glazed onigiri + croutons was quite salty, and there wasnt enough of the yuzu hollandaise for it to be prominent enough in the dish
- The okonimiyaki itself was quite bland, its drenched in the sauce which I understand is how its supposed to be and is what makes the dish what it is, however this overpowered the yakisoba (making it hiroshima style okonimiyaki) which was also quite bland. The bacon was just way too dry as well.
-The hamburg was also a bit dry and not substantial enough for the burger. Im also confused as to what the sauce adds to the dish?
-Credit where credits due, the karaage was super delicious. Crispy and a burst full of flavour with every bite. The soba was also quite nice and light, i thought the stock used to dress the soba was very palatable and not overly salty.

All in all, a great cafe-turned izakaya style diner by night (which ill definitely come back for)! The menu definitely has the lure of making me come back for more. The dishes were great don't get me wrong, but i think they can be better!

Hibiki is a great place to eat out whether it is for brunch, breakfast, a quick coffee stop, lunch or a fancy dinner (only on some days!). We ordered the crispy lotus chips which were seasoned nicely and came with mayo, the miso risotto and curry gratin. The miso risotto definitely stood out the most; the flavour of the miso infused into the rice was delicious in each bite. The curry gratin too was great, the brown rice was nice and quite al dente which complimented the grilled cheese and chicken nicely. To top it off we ordered the mochi donut. It was deep fried and the vanilla-kinako ice cream just made it complete! Would definitely come back for brunch again but make a booking as space is limited!

What a cute little place to break our restaurant drought, post covid-19 lockdown restrictions. Situated on Toorak Rd camberwell. The decor and mood in here are cute and the staff are to match. Polite and accommodating - especially to me (pregnant) asking questions to avoid raw food. My only complaint is that we got way too much food! In the image is a beef and pork Pattie on rice with veg (hambargu teishoku) which was excellent, and their spin of a chicken curry (hibiki curry gratin)... with bonus melted cheese on top- Excellent addition!
These two mains would have sufficed but we had also put a serious dent in our appetites with renkon chips and pork belly skewers which were all excellent. Would have loved more sauce on the renkon chips though- it was divine! Am fascinated that this place also does breakfast and will definitely head back to try out the breakfast menu!

These guys tick all the boxes! Have recently starting getting takeaway coffee alot more from here since the lock down, we picked up dinner last night from Hibiki and it was amazing! Carbonara and Japanese curry I highly recommend and we got the donuts for dessert. Thanks for doing such an amazing job during this time, keep doing what you're doing ❤❤❤❤

Hibiki was great. nice atmosphere and cozy/warm. friendly staffs and a variety of choice of coffee. Average flavour -i have noticed that Barnstaple steamed milk a lot and poured it It was busy morning and I understood. Love to go back and try food. Bought bag of coffee beans and it was good.

If you love Japanese cuisine and speciality coffee, Hibiki is the cafe for you. They have an exciting menu of delicious food and excellent filter and espresso coffees that encourage repeated visits. I had the Hibiki Curry and the Scattered Sushi Bowl, and I highly recommend both. Their coffees were also on point! The service is friendly and the wait time for food is pretty good even during the busy period. Make sure you check out the Japanese grocery store next store where you can find Japanese items and coffee beans.

Definitely a hidden gem of Japanese restaurant. The Teishoku is the best. It is really a traditional Japanese set meal with different side dishes, miso soup and grilled salmon. Salmon are cooked to perfection, and side dishes are just perfect match in the meal. I usually don't mention much of miso soup, but this restaurant is different. They made their own miso soup with heaps of flavors and ingredients, which gave me a nice surprise. I really enjoyed. The serving equipments also very unique and pretty. Scattered sushi bowl also really good, especially chicken karaage. Crunchy outside, soft inside. Rice also with quinoa, which made the meal more texture. Hojicha latte also made with tea leaf, not very strong flavors, but taste good. Sakura latte is quite sweet, but very pretty. This restaurant have plenty of outdoor seating (front and back) and indoor seating. Staff are friendly. They also sell bakery item and takeaway bento, sando next door. Plenty of variety for everyone. Will definitely come back to try other menu item. Street parking available nearby. Tram stop in front. Very convenient.

Had a spontaneous dinner at Hibiki's. Loved every bit of it. Very different & unique type of Japanese food that isn't common. Definitely come back for more.

I liked the japanese fusion brunch/lunch menu, with so many interesting dishes on the menu, it was not an easy decision. Seeing the visual menu using the QR code helped a lot on deciding what to have. The nori pesto clam udon has very lovely strong seaweed flavour, loved it. The matcha and hojicha latte's milk was done well, but I found them to be lacking of tea flavour. The staff were lovely and it had very quick service!

Really nice place with simple interior design. Menu items are very simple, yet look and taste great. Coffees were really nice and smooth. Service was great as well from all staff. Can't wait to try this place for the evening. Pictured is the Beef Bulgogi Benedicto and matcha and Cherry Blossom lattes. Nice texture in the Benedicto, never had a rice combo from a cafe but was nice.

Over all nice experience, cool selection of Japanese fusion but I was a little disappointed with the teishoku I ordered as the salmon was really the only part of it that made the dish and the sides were very basic and not too tasty. Rice wasn't warm either, would have loved a miso or something to make it feel more like a teishoku. The mushroom toastie with the renkon chips were great though!
