I've eaten here twice so far and the chicken has been succulent and chips crunchy! My favourite is the open Gatsby with slaw and garlic sauce. I think the bad reviews are to people not liking the Chinese new owners. The food is great!
Winner winner chicken dinner. Some of the best chicken in Melbourne by far. Not like your average charcoal chicken, Gatsby's offer fresh, tender and well priced meals. I travel 20 mins weekly to eat this chicken. Well done guys, keep it up

I don't normally find myself over the east side of Melbourne, but I just so happened to be helping a friends mum move house, and she just happened to be moving east side.
So there I was, east side, starving, and no phone data to look for food places nearby.
My friend and I pulled over and decided to just go for a walk until we saw something that catches our fancy.
Then we saw it. Gastby's Chicken.
From the outside it didn't look like much, but I'd had my fill of beef last night at B-East, so I was down to get some chiggin into my diet.

This place was AMAZING!
I got their signature "Gatsby Roll" and it was just fantastic!
GATSBY ROLL: wholemeal (or white) crusty bread roll, some sort of super delicious green pesto/sauce, hot seasoned chips, chicken piled high, salads (I got potato salad and coleslaw), and topped with a delicious creamy sauce (that I have since forgotten the name of).
This was a feast for kings, and for $10.95, that's pretty great.
The service was also top notch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They helped create a positive atmosphere in which the flavours of their cuisine could thrive. I'm Srs.
All in all, it was a great experience.

Gatsby's Chicken. Gatsby's charcoal chicken is butterflied, well marinated with spices like no others, very flavoursome.
Cheap and Fast. For the price you can't beat a quick feed at Gatsby's. Lots of choice and very cheap.
Must try Open Gatsby. This is not your regular charcoal chicken take away shop. They make everything from scratch, from the salad, the sauces and the spices that they marinate the chicken with. The chicken is also grilled similarly like the Nando's but better and consistent, so no burned bits. Highly recommend their signature roll - Gatsby roll. If it's too much, try the Open Gatsby (same ingredients but without the roll).

Birthday lunch for Natalie - Perfect Spot. Lovely lunch, wow my kids could not wait to have a gatsby. Thoroughly enjoyed it & would highly recommend this place. Gatsby's Roll is yum. Gatsby's roll with garlic sauce, chimichurri and mild sauce all together is so delicious. The owners are great. The best chicken shop.

Just finished a delicious dinner and couldn't wait to review Gatsby's. With fresh food and home made sauces served with a smile, this is my new favourite!! Highly recommended!

Open Gatsby my all time favourite meal from anywhere in this area. Recently changed hands but the food is still delicious and you get heaps of food for the price.
The chicken and chips were so tasty and the staff was so friendly!!! It's the best place to eat while you wait for your tram or bus to arrive.
Chicken is delish as ever but service is a bit slow. I also miss that bean salad.
