Review Iroiro - Camberwell

One of the most authentic freshly prepared Japanese meals we have tasted outside of Japan. Can't fault the refrained service or the attention to detail. Shop front is small and easy to miss, but worth the visit!

A classic Ma & Pa establishment with genuine food and service. We were impressed with the fresh sushi, and the hot dishes and entrees were also delicious. It's one of those rare places which cares enough to tell you if they think you've ordered too much food. In our case they were obliging enough to give us half serves instead of the full bowls of una-don which we originally ordered. So impressed! Thank you very much for dinner.

I lived in Japan for 10 months and only just recently came back to Melbourne. One thing I noticed is that the majority of the Japanese restaurants here are simply too expensive and don't even give that Japanese feel. Iroiro is amazing. It captures exactly those Japanese vibes I was looking for in Melbourne, and the two owners are lovely and were happy to have a chat with me in Japanese. The menu is extensive and extremely reasonably priced. Truly a hidden gem. 店の雰囲気がすごく日本っぽくて、メニューもとても豊富です。また行きます!

Easy to miss but you shouldn’t! A lovely family run vibe run by a beautiful husband and wife team. Food is delicious and fresh and well priced too.Oyako don is only $9.50! Many dishes to choose from, it’s one we goto often as we live nearby. Love this place and so glad it’s moved to Camberwell!

Went to this place after reading the review and attracted by the 4.9 star rating. We had sushi (6 pcs) and sashimi (8 pcs) combo $19, okonomiyaki $8, and the katsu don $9.5. The sushi and sashimi combo is average and basic. The okonomiyaki is a bit soggy without much cabbage. The katsu don is value for money with average quality. The overall lunch presentation could be better if it is served in a japanese tray with miso soup, rice and pickles. Ventilation could be better. Service is overall attentive and friendly.

Fantastic cute little Japanese restaurant! Must go! Home cooked style, great variety on the menu. Even for takeaway or if you need catering - I highly recommend this restaurant. Great prices too!

Great Japanese restaurant, lovely owners. I’ve been going to their shop since when they were in mount Waverley many years ago. Now this shop is even closer to me and the food quality is as excellent as ever! A must try~

Dear customers and friends. This Japanese restaurant closed permanently.

I have another restaurant in Ormond. Could you try in Ormond. Kinkaku japanese restaurant (628 North rd Ormond).

Doesn't compare to an authentic Japenese restaurant. Cheap prices but small portions; extremely unimpressed by the rice which is not cooked properly (clumpy and wet). I tried the oyako-don, however the chicken was extremely pale and underseasoned. Interior is simple and quaint, but I suggest that they print out clearer photos for their menu outside as the images make the restaurant appear unprofessional and slightly clumsy.

Simply furnished little family business, with love for their culture and cuisine. Excellent prices, polite services, prompt timings, yummy food. Noticed the other customers were regulars at their favourite Japanese. Just wish I lived much closer!

Our new favourite Japanese spot! Fresh and beautiful nigiri, sushi and sashimi plus the curries are amazing too!

The owners are hospitable and make the dining experience all the more enjoyable!
It’s our new go-to and can not recommend highly enough.

Everything is handmade in front of you to order and much cheaper and tastier than many other Japanese places nearby!

It is also a BYO joint which is a rarity these days in Melbourne.

Yummy home-style Japanese food. Quick, very friendly and warm service. Go here at least once a week for work lunch and its always consistent.

Finally got a chance to try this Japanese Restaurant for dinner tonight. We ordered Mixed sushi & sashimi plater, pork katsu curry (rice included), tatsuta (marinated fried chicken pieces), koroke (creamy croquette), takoyaki and 3 kinds of different flavours ice cream for dessert. We also ordered a serve of salmon rolls which I did not include in the photos here. We enjoyed the sushi + sashimi plater and the salmon rolls. The pork katsu curry is pretty standard to my liking. Good, yet nothing extra ordinary. The fried chicken looks kind of “burnt”, although I believe it’s just because of them being marinated, and not a result of being over fried. There were no burnt taste. The chicken pieces were tender and served with mayo dipping sauce. A little more seasoning on the chicken pieces would have been great. Koroke was creamy inside and crunchy outside. Takoyaki looked kind of more home made compared to others I have had from other places, which is a good thing. However some of the octopus pieces filling were a little too chewy). We ordered green tea (matcha), red bean and black sesame ice cream servings. The red bean ice cream was the sweetest of the 3. I liked it the most. The green tea has a mild green tea flavour. I prefer to have slightly stronger green tea flavour and perhaps a bit creamier as well. But everyone has different preferences. The black sesame one was nutty as expected, but felt a little “dry”. I would have liked it a little creamier and a tad sweeter maybe. Again, just my liking. Overall pretty enjoyable experience for a home-style humble restaurant. Service was polite by the owner.

Brilliant, fresh sushi and friendly staff. Went for Valentine's Day with my partner and we ordered a whole sushi platter of 20 pieces. I could have eaten more. What more could you ask for?

Loved the food here. Very unassuming place with yummy food and good service. The owners are so lovely and warm. They also told us when we ordered too much food and made suggestions on how to manage that. I’m totally coming here again!! 😋

What we ordered: Sushi & Sashimi platter, Seaweed salad, Gyoza, Avocado hosomaki, Unadon x 2, Katsu curry don, Green tea ice cream and Red bean ice cream 😋

This little local gem is small and looks like nothing special on Camberwell road but when you are inside you can tell this is an authentic place and feel immediately welcomed. The owners are so lovely and service was impeccable - we even got free dessert. Free green tea is also available for everyone. The food was delicious. Salmon and chicken teriyaki’s were perfect, sushi and gyoza so fresh, very tasty vegetable tempura and miso soup (not pictured), and absolutely loved the Nasu Dengaku (miso sauce eggplant) too - tasty yet delicate. We were longing for a restaurant like this since we left our old neighbourhood which had a great Japanese restaurant too. We went as a family and all loved it. Will definitely be back - probably on a regular basis, and highly recommend to anyone in the area who appreciates simple yet authentic Japanese food. Thank you and good luck!
