Review Turkish Halal Pide House - Canberra

Toki Nguyen
really great spot for kebabs! clearly the locals know about this as it was continuously busy! to order you go in and grab a wrapper and pen, then tick the boxes/ingredients you want.. hand it over n pay super easy and super efficient! the kebabs are super generous in serving size! and packs in a heap of meat but still giving a good ratio between meats n salad n sauce. one kebab can def feed two! (or feeds one if ur super hungry!) they got a few outdoor tables if you wanna sit n eat but this place is predominantly a takeaway shop

A $21 Lamb and Veggie Pide will feed three big blokes (and a cat) with some left over. Their dough isn't a standard bread but rather more of a sourdough-type, making for an interesting additional taste to what is already a flavourful meal. Please check the picture showing how much you get. I will definitely be going back there again.

5 stars for food!! This is not the place if you want cloth napkins and table service. It is loud and a real family atmosphere. The staff are lovely and funny if you give them a break this is an incredibly busy place and they do a great job for the amount of people that they serve. We have been going there for 5 years and will continue to go back because the food is amazing and the service great.

Delicious Turkish food. The best kebab in Canberra, for sure. I recommend.

Tasty, pretty good kebab for Canberra. Beware as the kebabs are piping hot! Also, if you’re eating in be on the lookout for magpies and ibises hunting for food.
Ish
Great value for money and one of the best kebab around canberra and the great part is they make their own bread there so it’s always soft, tasty and fresh even the magpies love it 😆

if you are like me and like your tabbouleh with tomatoe, lemon juice, cucumber, bulgar then you will be distinctly disappointed with this food that serves chopped parsley by itself - nothing else and sells as tabbouleh. hard to chew - hard to swallow - hard to digest - not worth the money

Normal Kabab food shop with pretty expensive prices comparing to NSW and others competitor . The shop located away from Canberra City about 15 mints driving if you are close to yarummlla it is good option.

Coming here for years, never fails to disappoint

Absolutely top Babs and HSP's. I have a Muslim colleague who told me that the religion the guys who own this place practice isn't Islam - it's food. You will have to wait to get your order, but that is the price for a place so popular. If you're new to Canberra and in the area, give it a go, you won't leave disappointed. HSP with the holy trinity is the go. It truly is the king of South side Turkish food.

This place is soooooo busy. Arrived at 6pm and the line started to extend out the door. Not a surprise though, as every man and his dog I have spoken to from Canberra raves about Yarra Kebabs. We enjoyed a vegetarian and chicken pide, plus a Halal Snack Pack. The dough for the pide was stretched in front of our eyes, and turned out piping hot - delicious. The snack pack was also super tasty. Will return for a Kebab next visit to ACT!

I've only had take away and I'm in love with their doner kebabs- love the freshness of the parsley and the veggies they stuff in. Generous serving too. Good job you'll.

The eat-in option is a massive pain here (surprised none cared to share this in their review). There are only 2 tables inside and 3-4 outside on the footpath. On a busy day you may be forced with the takeaway option, not to mention the outside area is crawling with pigeons and magpies that want a bite from your food too.
The mixed grill was nice which provided a mix of skewers, cutlet, rice and salad. The lamb skewer was dry and chewy. We also had the kemali which I highly recommend due to the soft pide and tasty lamb mince filling.

There’s a kebab shop at every nook n corner in Australia...however I bet my bottom dollar that you have never been to any like the one at Yarralumla. The meat is fresh and well cooked, dips are tasty - just what you would expect from your favourite kebab joint. What takes your breath away is the Bread - freshly baked delicious Turkish bread - have it separately or your kebab wrapped in it - anyway you like it.

We came here to get takeaway for dinner. It's busy and the ordering system can be a bit confusing (Luckily, we had a fellow customer who helped us out)

Between two people, we shared a chicken kebab and the mixed izgara main (mixed skewers, kofte, lamb cutlet with rice and salad). Good quantity and yummy food.

Coming from a state (Victoria) where you would find a Kebab shop in almost every suburb. You'd have high expectations coming to a store rated the best in Canberra.

Yarralumla Turkish Halal Pide House has quite an extensive number of staff members manning the kitchen and the front, but it doesnt seem crowded at all. There is a family like feel to the place, with everyone being so friendly to one another.

I bought myself a large HSP, and the box itself is quite large. A box for maybe even two to share. You would probably not find a large with this size for $16 in Melbourne. On further expection when receiving the box, it wasn't like the tower of meat that you'd get in Melbourne. It was flat laying across the box. Absolutely no sauce hitting the roof of the lid, a slight disappointment, but still a big box anyways.

The sauces chosen here were of course the holy trinity, Chilli, BBQ and Garlic. the chilli tasted a bit on the sour side, the BBQ sauce was drenched over the meat and the Garlic...well, you can never go wrong with Garlic sauce.

The chips came out piping hot, along with the meat on top. Chips were crispy amd seasoned very well. The Lamb and Chicken was like every other kebab place you go to. The lamb (of course processed) and the chicken as well spinning on the rack.

However, this is where things are slightl different, and get a better approval than Melbourne. Meat was at least 2/3 the box, whereas chips were only 1/3.

A good and tasty experience. Would I be back? Maybe. But it doesn't beat some of those in Melbourne. A 3/5 from me.

Am I the only person in canberra who doesn't rate these kebabs? Tried the renowned Yarra Kebabs yesterday and they were pretty much all meat and bread. The tiny amount of salad was soggy and the sauce was barely detectable!
Ratios people! All of the different ingredients in a kebab come through to make it what it is - just eating a hunk of meat and bread is bland and boring. Not sure why there's so much love for these kebabs.

The Zomato app is amazing. We were hungry so put lunch into the app. This place was close. We arrived and the place was packed and we were so impressed how efficiently the staff got through all of the customers. The Kebab OMG so fresh fantastic flavours and huge. The chicken, tabouli and garlic sauce was a 10/10. A must visit to pick up lunch then enjoy by the lake.
Bec
Best kebab in town however my kebab was a lot smaller last night and I hope this isn't the change they are bringing in as jam packed kebabs was there selling point and what everyone goes there for.
EatLiveEat
The famous kebab place in Yarralumla was packed at lunchtime on a Saturday as expected. This place is a no frills eatery that serves quality food at a reasonable price. I must admit that the portions are HUGE so please bring your appetite. The shop has EFTPOS which is a relief.
We ordered a cheese, mushroom and olive pide topped with sesame seeds onion seeds, which was fantastic. We also ordered the mixed grill plate.. which came with a grilled lamb cutlet, a lamb kefta, a chicken shish kebab, a lamb kebab, mixed green salad, Turkish rice and youghurt sauce. The meats were well cooked and seasoned well, with the lamb cutlet having a slight char which was delectable.
The overall quantity of food was such that the three of us could not finish the food.
I will have to postpone trying the kebabs till my next visit, because I will definitely be back.
Recommended.

Quality is diminished of late - bread has been thinned out so kebab filling pushes through. Also using cheap paper to wrap kebabs - gets stuck to bread. You have to constantly peel it off.
Semi
The kebabs here are good, but how hard is it to stuff up making a kebab? The servings are humungous so definitely bring your appetite. I've been a few times and must say the quality is consistent and definitely value for money. Always packed which I suppose is a good sign.
Luckily for me, with general friendliness being the norm here in Canberra someone pointed out to me how the new ordering system works a couple of months ago, otherwise I would have copped the ire of the people at the counter when trying to order that way as was the case with a few others.
I think the new ordering system is to streamline the process...
Michèle Bode
The best kebab you'll buy - the new writing your order system is impersonal and awkward. The shop needs a redesign and the staff need an attitude check; the food however, speaks for itself. Generous portions and delicious vegetarian options. They need to ditch the minimum eftpos and stock a better drinks fridge. 1 kebab between 2 will do.
That Chick
Positive: Tasty and delicious kebab. Nothing else.

Negative:
- Please, don't talk so much when preparing the kebabs, your saliva on them is not welcome at all!
- Please CLEAN the mop that you use to clean your oven. It's disgusting!!
- Please put the price of your baklava upfront. You have been charging my baklava inconsistently!
- Please don't take big catering order on the counter. Go and talk to the person at the side so it doesn't cost the customers who are waiting for kebabs lots of extra time.
Feinschmecker Kerl
Definitely the best kebab in Canberra and I dare say Australia! The chicken cut is crispy on the edges and soft and juicy on the inside. The lamb is really tasty and well seasoned. The pita bread is also quite different to other places. It is thicker than usual, soft and slightly chewy. If you get a banquet package, the rice, veggies and dips that come with it are also delicious. Frankly, though, the young men working there could be less rude. Funnily enough, that slight rudeness has never stopped my family and I from going there.
Clean The Plate
We promised Kebab reviews and finally, after much hesitation and attempts to delay, here it is. The delay was due to some people wishing to return and try the food from this place again, just to make sure they remembered the kebabs correctly. Certain people may suspect these urrr, ‘pure’ motives.

Yes I do admit it is dam good. I admit I dont eat lamb and prefer a beef one but I gave in Sunday night as my daughter just had to have a kebab as I promised her a Kebab and pokemon hunting. I was amazed at ho enormous they are and how beautiful the bread is and over all the whole thing. So now this Saturday night is again Kebab and Pokemon hunting . The restaurant as we walked in was packed and smelled delicious.

OMG!!! The best ever Kebabs. I have never been treated to such greatness before. The flavours were delicious and the sauces not over the top. Wishing that I lived closer. Either that or they should open a shop in Melbourne. Traditional food with traditional flavours.
Foodpornjournal
The best kebab in Canberra? The majority of people I speak to all mention ‘that’ Turkish place in Yarralumla. That Turkish place is the Turkish Halal Pide House at the Yarralumla shops. I had tried it once at least 6 years ago and thought it was about time I made another trip. J and I got there at about 2.30pm one Saturday afternoon, a late lunch for us, and we thought it wouldn’t be that busy. We were wrong. There was a queue backed up all the way to the door.
Evy
Stopped by to try their famous kebabs. We had heard the queue is often out the door, but thankfully not quite that busy today.
Our kebabs were great - thick homemade bread with a mountain of meat. Too big for me though, I couldn't finish it.
The restaurant is small, with limited seating available inside.
Lots and lots of other meal options available too.
Hungryhungry
Ahh, the taste of fresh, fresh, fresh Turkish food. Everything about this place is worth the queue out the door on weekends - all the breads are fresh, the dips, salads....amazingly good. (Food) memories are made of this.
Derek
Without any doubt whatsoever this is THE greatest find in Canberra. OMG, the kebabs are incredible with flavourful meat, fresh salad and super tasty sauces on freshly baked bread.

Make sure you also bring your appetite because the servings are huge and for a tiny price compared to any other kebab place.

Do your taste buds and stomach a favour and get down here to experience what thousands of Canberrans have already done.

Be sure to have patience before you arrive as the lineup to order can be out the door.

Why did it take me this long to experience this unbelievable food!!!
Claire Lillian
Authentic Turkish kebab shop. What a menu! Extensive menu of delicious, well priced home style Turkish grill, bread and salads. Very impressed with this small and bustling take away shop.
Not happy. The guy just doesn't pay attention and completely stuffed up two of my orders. Wrong sauce, wrong checking the bag so I would know what's what. Just gave my boss his kebab which was not what he wanted. Won't be going back. A little more focus on the food prep and less gas bagging would be a great start.
Milcho
This shop is a golden standard. The quality and quantity of the food for your money makes it a great return of investment. The guys at the shop are great.
Absolute Vy
Very good kebabs. Each is massive with generous amount of meat as fillings. You can taste how fresh the kebab bread is. Meat has nice flavour and very juicy.
FiveDollarShake
Hands down the best kebab I have ever eaten, and I wasn't even drunk this time. Also, if you bought me some of their beetroot dip I would be yours forever.
Jim
The best kebabs around. Fresh ingredients and quality food. Always go here every time I visit Canberra. Only down side would be it's location is far from the cbd and their customer service is very much rushed... As if you're taking up so much of their time and always pushing you back out the door... Should be an experience in staying and eating here
Tales Of Rose
Best turkish bread in town, more often than not, fresh out of the oven. Rice dishes, kebabs, dips, pide with cured meat, all great options :)
Brian Eats
Great kebabs every time, with your choice of salads and sauces. Their pita bread is always soft and fluffy, and you get a mountain of meat. Expect to have to wait in line a little if you go during the lunch rush - have seen the queue going out the door!

Best place in Canberra. Straight out the kebabs here are the best in Australia. Its even better than some of the popular places in the area in Sydney and Melbourne. Trust kaz. You will not be disappointed. Yallah I feel like one right now. oooft.
Spooning Australia
I bloody love this place and will be back again, and again, and again, if visiting by myself I will order with my stomach and not my eyes. I will also prefer to attend and enjoy this more with friends, as sharing these foods will be the winning combo.

Yarralumla offers particularly nicely presented salads as well as the usual options included in most Turkish banquets.

Only order what you need. One banquet per three people may well be enough if you are adding your own dessert, extra vegetable crudités for the dips and perhaps adding a few extra garnishing ingredients to the salad. Often the basic banquet is the best and most versatile.

For example, the Yarralumla Halal Pidehouse Banquet includes...

Piss Poor Attitude. As we walked up to the entrance a cook comes out with a leaf blower and begins to clean the outside eating area, blowing serviettes, straws and other garbage onto the street. If they have this attitude with the local streets how clean can the back of house be and the care with the food. I went else where.

Great food in Canberra. Great food, not fancy seating. Best to book if you want a seat on arrival. We had banquet for 2ppl, was enough for 2 adults and 2 kids aged around 10-12. Still left with doggy bags. Great value for $40 for dinner. Best takeaway we have had. Was a little bit rushed..... Could have spaced dished out a bit more. Kids loved it, highly recommend.

Great Food, need to move to bigger premises. The food here is amazingly good, and very reasonably priced. It used to be my local when I worked in Deakin, and I miss it when I'm needing a Turkish fix. Fantastic kebabs, great pides, and the bread is to die for. That said, its alkmost impossible to dine in, the room is so cramped and noisy. Expand, guys.

Good food terrible service. Ordered catering for a function a week out from our event and paid over the phone. I was told by a colleague that they are always 15 minutes late so to ask them to be there half an hour before the event starts. Asked the order to be delivered between 11:00 -11:30 for a 12pm start. 12 pm came around and no food. Called the restaurant and the phone was sat down while she tried to locate my order, I could hear in the background that no one knew anything about it and it wasn't ready. She returned and told me the order would be another half an hour away, no apology, no explanation. Food arrived 40 mins later and the driver apologised and told me the lateness was due to car issues, despite me clearly hearing that the order was lost over the phone!
Despite my guests having to wait 40mins for lunch, the food was good and there was plenty of it for what we paid, just a shame about the service.

Wait for it, it's worth it. We had no idea what we'd do for dinner in Canberra on a Saturday night. We found this place on Urbanspoon. We looked at our watches - it would only be open for another 50 minutes. We drove from Civic, got in the long line, ordered our pide and some falafels, and sat and waited for them. We received our order about 33 minutes after we left Civic. We drove back, and ate it in our hotel room, after faffing around for 5 minutes or so looking for a car park, and a five minute walk to our hotel room. I tell you all this so that you can realise this review is on the back of a 15 minute wait in line, a 10 minute wait for the food, and then another 12 odd minutes before we got to eat it. So it was not piping hot when we finally tucked in.

But it was still great. The pides look expensive, but they are huge, so don't be afraid of that. They come in a large pizza box because they have to. We had a Halal Special, which has all different kinds of meat. It tasted fresh, and delicious, and morish, even though there was so much. We got six falafels with it just in case, but we didn't need them. These were deep-fried, fairly fresh too, and tasted really good with a generous serving of tahini atop them. This was a good little dinner to eat as we sat in front of Canberra TV in our hotel room. We'd recommend it.

I have been into this place at least five times, and I have never been spoken to so badly.
The staff are extremely rude, the customer service is shocking, I will definately never go back again. The kitchen is also quite dirty, I'm surprised that it is so popular.
Mick_kaddour
Traveller from sydney. I have eaten a lot of kebabs and turkish cuisine in my tome, but nothing beats the taste of the food and the service is outstanding. Will definitely be back

The long line of people waiting to order is an indication of how popular this place is. Simply excellent food. The banquet had very generous portions. We'll be back again.

My absolute favourite kebab place. The bread is amazing, meat well marinated (I always go for the chicken), huge generous servings, great value. Delicious kabak (zucchini puffs) too. The picnic packs look great as a non kebab option. But honestly, can't go past the kebabs.
Jacob Mac
I have tried kebabs, deep in kebab territory, in every city in Australia. Yarralumla kebabs are easily the best. Amazing flavours, great service and plentiful serves to tame any beast. 100%.

Wow. Could not taste better.. Coming from Brisbane, this experience has certainly put my Brisbane kebabs to shame. Beautiful food, fast and friendly service. The combination kebab ... amazing!

This place serves the best food on the planet!!! They catered for a party we had at home, delivered piping hot on time with smiles. I'm a very regular customer - they are efficient, swift and serve great food with generous portions. This place is truly Canberra's best kept secret.

Value for money. The kebabs were big serving and well worth the money. yumM!
Canberra Gourmet
Amazing. Greatest kebab ever. The most perfect bread and delicious meat in town.

Tasty and good value food. I find the pide a bit salty though

Awesome. Friendly professional staff who prepare a meal extravaganza. Your taste buds and wallet will be thanking you days.

The best food in canberra hands down!. Massive meals awesome value, you will be soooo full with still food left on the table. We had the ottoman banquet for two but it could have fed four with leftovers, the food is to die for, we will be coming back to canberra just for this!

Super quick, super tasty, super size!

Fresh, crazy fun. If you're hungry, you need Turkish Halal Pide House. After seeing all the great reviews we came here on Friday evening to try the eat-in banquet. The shop was chaos, with two lines (one for ordering, one for paying? Except when we went to pay, in which case someone kindly told us to go straight up to the counter) and a constant stream of people. 'Constant' is no exaggeration-- the line was out the door most of the time! It's easy to see why: the interior is pure takeaway-chic, but the food is fresh and there is a LOT of it. We received a fast and never-ending stream of dips, bread, skewers and salad. Then, when we were stuffed, two enormous Turkish pizzas arrived! We had to take them away, we were so full. The staff were no-nonsense with takeaway customers (someone ordered by phone but turned up a couple of minutes late, and received a dressing-down), but they were fine with us.

The takeaway is much more popular than the sit-down, and we shared our booth with other people waiting for food, but it was quite a fun and delicious experience. Recommended for kebab fiends.

A great find!!! We were in .... A great find!!!
We were in town for one night and somehow ended up in this beautiful restaurant, and it was fantastic. Pide was sooooo good. Yum! Definitely coming back again.

Tried their Lamb Kebab with hot chilli sauce and loved it! Huge portions, great taste and good value for money - a great option for students wanting a quick meal. I was pleasantly surprised on how spicy their hot chilli sauce was and would recommend it to anyone looking for a spicy fix. Just a note, the restaurant closes by 8pm so come early to avoid disappointment!
Ryan
A hidden gem. Fresh and tasty food, friendly service and at a great price. What else can I say?
Peter Breis
Great bread!. I tend to find most turkish food heavy going and this is no different, but I do go there for their fresh bread and dips.

Getting the bread fresh is more work than it used to be, you have to be somewhat insistent if you want it hot from the oven. But it is worth the wait and the tussle. Turkish bread once it gets cold and starts drying out should be avoided, just like "today's" donuts, croissants and brioches.

Apparently if you are looking for the best Turkish place in Canberra, you will have to come to Turkish Halal Pide House. Situated in Yarraluma, this place was worth the drive for some authentic cuisine. Their website says that they take reservations, so I made a booking for 3 people that night. Upon arrival with my 2 other friends, we were surprised that all the tables were taken. This place appeared to be more like a takeaway place than an actual restaurant. I explained to the owner about the situation and she quickly asked a table of the customers if they have finished eating. We were surprised by this act, but the customers were very easy-going, they left quickly and the table was soon cleared out. The interior of the place. More for takeaway than formal dining. We had our eyes set on the banquet menu, which was around $20 per person on the website. We wanted the “Halal Pidehouse Banquet” which consisted of selection of dips, pide bread , kabak, falafel, salad, rice, lamb skewers, c

One can't get more authentic Turkish cuisine than this in Canberra. It's genuine, traditional food served at it's freshest.

This restaurant (take away joint?) also serve traditional Turkish meal, such as the zucchini balls, dips, shish-kebabs, and variety of dessert items. They even have about 3 different banquets for a proper sit-down meal type of dishes :) Go on and try them, you won't regret it!

A and I have visited twice now – the first for an amazing doner kebab (made with housemade bread and quality meat) and the second for a Pidehouse Banquet. The Pidehouse Banquet was a spur of the moment decision on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. A had felt like a Turkish pide so we decided to head to Yarralumla’s Turkish Halal Pide House. When we arrived, A spotted the variety of banquets on offer that offer a number of different items for the reasonable price of $20 per person. We opted for a banquet to sample what The Turkish Halal Pide House had to offer. The first dish of our banquet to arrive was the selec

I finished work at lunch time on a Saturday and had some time to kill, so I decided to make the trek over to Yarralumla shops to get this mystical kebab, to see what all the fuss was about.
