Never had a bad meal here. Food is always fresh and very tasty.
This is without a doubt the best laksa in Australia.
Since moving to Sydney I haven’t been able to enjoy laksa the same way.
When in Canberra there is only one thing I need. This.
Large tasty servings (we had a Lao minced chicken dish and chicken cashew stir fry - am on a no red meat/seafood diet). It was almost too much for us (two males). Service was responsive, crisp and brisk. Atmosphere isn’t a strong point but value for money and taste makes this a standout. Highly recommended
Came here on a busy Friday night and was lucky enough to score the last table. I heard that their laksa were the go to so I ordered one of those as well as a duck char kway teow and vegetables. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were alright. It's quiet a small restaurant so tables are closely packed in and it's awkward when takeaway people come in waiting for their food and watch you eat. Service was pretty standard but very fast past and almost a bit frantic, like they are trying to clear you off the table asap.
Came for dinner today and enjoyed very fast service, both FOH and BOH staff worked extremely efficiently, servers were attentive and quick, got meals in under 10 minutes after ordering, which is very impressive given it was a busy Friday night. I had the Pad Thai which was very nice and was the perfect portion size. Will definitely be back again!
Came here based on the recommendations about the laksa and quite enjoyed it. A little on the sweeter side (at least to our taste) but had a nice subtle heat to it. Portion sizes are generous with lots of meat and very fairly priced. Others have said the seafood laksa is mostly crab stick so might want to avoid that one, but the chicken one is quite good and very satisfying on a cold night. The noodle dishes are cooked in too much oil but otherwise have a good flavour. Service is pretty good and the food arrives quickly. Not sure if we would leap at the chance to come here again but we'll definitely keep it as a good option to fall back on when we're in the area.
Was very excited to try this place however do think it may be slightly overrated. I will be back and would recommend the stirfrys (hokkien vegetable). Good flavour, fresh tofu and veg, good portion, fast service and very very cheap. I risked the tempura prawns as an entree even though getting takeaway and they were very soggy and the prawn itself was over cooked. The menu was very extensive and am keen to try this again (eating in). Service was satisfactory.
Second visit: better experience dining in, the food is still very casual, very fast and very cheap. Good flavour and very generous size.
the chicken pad thai here is really great! give it a try if u come here. but the way they describing chinese people is really rude for me. im just a homestay student, i went here with my host family. my host mom got a bad experience, there was a raw chicken piece in her dish. and when aaron complained to the waitress, the waitress started to judge chinese people with the rude way and i don't like the way she talk. the thai laksa is quite good too, im liking this place bcs its food. maybe u guys should give it a try!
Dickson Asian Noodle House is a must eat at institution if you want incredibly tasty, affordable and traditional Asian dishes. The lack of credit card facilities is a massive letdown but for locals it is ideal.
Clickety click for full review and have a great day :).
This place is reknown for its laksa, in my opinion, the best in Canberra. Rich and flavoursome, plenty of delicious fillings. If it was a little spicier I'd rate it a 5.
We had the combination laksa with duck, roast pork, chicken, vege and tofu. You can order a half serve when dining in, if you prefer a smaller serve.
Note they don't accept credit cards, only cash or eftpos over $30.
Love the jumbo laksa here. So much meat (duck squid etc) and the soup is pretty good too but not spicy enough for my taste. Definitely one of the best laksa ive had
I'd say this is one of the closest laksas that I've had in Canberra that reminds me of the ones from Singapore. Not the usual laksas found in Australia that are usually added with heaps of sugar, you can actually taste the coconut milk in the creamy and mildly spiced laksa broth.
This was the combination laksa, so I got to try out a variety of meats. I enjoyed the duck and char siew the most.
Would go back and try other yummy stuff on the menu. Can't wait!
If it's quality table service you're looking for, then the Dickson Asian Noodle House is not for you. But, if you want a good laksa, this is a place you really should make sure you visit! I went for the combination laksa on my last visit, and have tried a few others - the duck laksa makes for something different.
It's BYO, so you can bring your own alcohol. Note that there is EFTPOS for purchases of $30+, but no credit card facility.
The noodle is good, fast served, too much MSG. Downside is cash only! 😂 I like the laksa noodle. It is always crowded during lunch and dinner time.
The laksa is fantastic - just enough spice, the soup is nice and hot, plenty of noodles and ingredients. My friend had the pad thai and found it tasty and satisfying.
Amazing laksas and pad Thais! Also try the Penang prawns...delish!
Be prepared to get in and out quick though..and book a table if you're with a large group.
Best duck laksa in Canberra... Title says it all people.
Best Laksa. Absolutely delicious Duck Laksa. One of the best I have had. Ask for some coconut juice to wash it down. Very fast service. You do get the feeling they want you in and out quick, thats ok as the food makes up for the rushed feeling. Order another coconut juice and savour the flavours!
Absolutely delicious, you can't go wrong with the Laska. It's fresh, so tasty and filling. There is nothing like this warm dish on a cold miserable day in Canberra. I haven't tried the other dishes but, there is no need - the Laska never disappoints and there are many choices ie. duck, seafood, vegetarian and combination. The Asian noodle house in civic is also a treat!
Great laksa. You must try the duck laksa.
Unbelievable value for money and just a great dish.
Best of the Best. Cannot go past this restaurent.... UNREAL both food and value for $$$$$. We just moved to the ACT and it will be our once a week place, loved it keep it up please
This place is often referred to as the 'Laksa House' as it has the best Laksa in town
Best laksa in town. For those unfamiliar to Canberra's one-street-Chinatown, this little restaurant is an institution. While the service is so-so (they usually give you a time limit on when you need to vacate the table), the food is amazing. In particular, try the laksa.
For those that are gluten free, the menu's not particularly GF friendly, but the staff can let you know what's got gluten in it or not.
We love this little eatery, always pop in whenever we come Canberra. As other reviewers said, one of the best laksa here, one bowl of jumbo laksa is good enough to share with my hubby and myself for lunch. Duck rice is good, too. Rice is cooked with soup stock here. Really yummy but cheap! I love crispy noodle, too. Crunchy noodle & oozy sauce sensation !
The noodle specialist! Everything I have tried here has been amazing! Quick service too! If you are after a laksa I'd definetely recommend this place
Best Laksa!. Sit, order, eat, pay and leave :))))
Laksa!. Nothing more needs to be said. Service is no-nonsense, but you don't come here to have your butt kissed.
Yummy Foods. Most of the food are yummy, but don't count on the service. They're not exactly the most friendly people in Canberra.
We loved this place! Food was excellent and service suburb! All reasonably priced as well!!!!
Pretty good. My partner and I ate here recently. We recently moved from Adelaide, where there is a huge range of Asian restaurants. So far, all restaurants in ACT have been more expensive than Adelaide. Food wise, most have been only comparable or not as good.
My laksa was nice - a mild version but with a good amount of meat. Lacking vegetables though. My partner was very happy with his duck dish. For ACT this is probably a pretty good place to get a meal.
We were thoroughly looking forward To dining here after reading the raving reviews about the place and we definitely did not come disappointed. The laksa really was delicious, as was their spin of Thai massaman beef curry. Only downsides are the cheap and nasty Hot Dollar plates and bowls and the very sour floor staff. For the sake of your own happiness find another bloody job if you're hating this one so much. But this place is still highly recommended. We ended up coming back for lunch before heading back to Sydney!
Great laksa. The laksa is definitely the star here. I've had better laksas in Sydney, but this is by far the best in Canberra.
The Dickson Asian Noodle House serves the best laksa I have ever eaten. You definitely need to book a table if you're heading there at a peak time, but don't worry if they're full - takeaway is just as good! Take cash (or EFTPOS) as they don't accept credit cards.
The Green Curry Chicken is so good. Overheard some guests talking about how much better the laksa's are vs the GCC. Laksa is great but GCC is top shelf.
Can't beat the duck laksa here and the bustling atmosphere makes for a laid-back night out. Service can occasionally be inattentive but food makes update for it.
Laksa Heaven. As per most of the reviews, go for the Laksa. A healthy choice it may not be, but I do not think you will get another chance to have such a spectacular laksa. I got the jumbo combination, plenty of variety and all the meat was beautifully cooked. Dining companions got singapore noodles and a beef noodle dish - for the price I am not concerned about the service. Very quick and very satisfying, highly reccomend the drive out of town especially if you are on a road trip like I was
I have travelled the world looking for a good laksa but always come back to the noodle house, have been going there for years. The laksa here is amazing and never disappoints!
Love the Laksa. We get takeaway from here at least once a month and I almost always order the Chicken Laksa. It's delicious, filling, fresh and consistently good.
Firm Hokkien noodles stir fried in dark soya with beef, nice big prawns, squid and Chinese vegetables. It is impossible to beat this dish for simple, well balanced flavours, consistent high quality and at about $12, great value for money.
Good, cheap, tasty Asian dishes. I love that they serve half-sized laksa too!
After returning from a lovely weekend getaway in the Blue Mountains, the SO and I weren’t particularly interested in cooking so we went and met a friend for dinner at Dickson Asian Noodle House. I had the forethought to make a booking this time. On the one hand, they will always squeeze you in. On the other, however, they’ll do so as long as you promise you can finish in 25 minutes and we wanted to be able to take our time. Our first ever bowl of laksa was consumed here a year and a half ago and we have yet to find a laksa we like better (though I’m keen to try Mekong River next door). I’m pretty sure the Noodle House already has a solid reputation for laksa so I’ll keep this short. I ordered the combo laksa. I always enjoy the fried tofu that soaks up the rich flavour of the broth. And frankly, I just like duck. It’s not the best duck I’ve ever had but it makes a nice addition to the soup. Half-size combination laksa On a whim, I ordered a side of sticky rice ($5), intrigued by the w
The place is not what it seems. Don’t expect to find amusement or entertainment from a heavy hearted collection of memoirs from the Australian soldiers who died for yours, my, OUR country. The gallery/ museum of the War Memorial exhibits from the time of the First Settlement, WWI to today with articles ranging from uniforms, personal belongings, paintings, miniature displays to aircraft models.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
+4.5
Being billed as having the best laksa in the ACT puts some pressure on a place - so I was curious to see if the hype was true. It was. The stuff here is great.

Singapore noodles, too wet for me, but good amount of vegetables. $15 plus $2 for extra eggs $17.
A popular little noodle restaurant in Dicksons Chinatown. They offer a wide variety of noodle choices from various Asian countries. I found the laksa to be tasty but there was enough broth in the bowl to allow for a true soup noodle experience. The pad Thai was cooked well but also lacked a little flavour. Overall not a bad place casual dining place, the service was average.
As the name suggests this place does different types of Asian noodles and it does it well with reasonable prices - we had a selection of noodles including Laksa's, Singapore noodles and Pad See Ew. The satay was fried and not grilled as you would typically get in Singapore but my kids still enjoyed them. When we got here it was a full house but the waitress made every effort to accomodate our group of 8. Our food came quickly and all dishes were well proportioned. Not sure if Laksa's are typically bigger elsewhere but the 'Jumbo' Laksa was not as big as I would've expected - order 2!
Was recommended the laksa here...Had the combination laksa and was definitely not disappointed. The noodle house was quite busy even close to closing hours. The laksa comes in a rich coconut and curry broth overloaded with various toppings (duck, pork, beef, tofu) with perfectly cooked noodles soaking in all the flavors.
The service was excellent and the dishes come extremely quick. The numerous awards plastered over the walls are well deserved.
