Review Dickson Asian Noodle House - Canberra

David Juan
The "BBQ chicken" were simply deep-fried and dried like chicken jerky, also way too salty even make the heavily seasoned laksa broth taste bland. Although the laksa has good portion size and generally not bad in taste and quality.

Singapore noodles, too wet for me, but good amount of vegetables. $15 plus $2 for extra eggs $17.

Very average. Pork with Chicken rice. The tired looking pork was heated in the microwave and chicken rice was made with a stock powder it seemed. Greens buried beneath the pork were the only plus. This place used to be great, luckily there are many more places around.

3.5 stars for the laksa (I come from Melbourne) and 1 star for the Hainanese chicken. Feedback for the owners: Hainanese Chicken is a “simple” dish with just a few elements so to justify selling it at restaurant prices every element needs to be done well. I advise using chicken legs instead of breasts as the cook time is more forgiving. If you are to use breasts (like in Asia) you have to cook it perfectly so it doesn’t dry out. What was served to me was pretty dry. The rice should be moist and flavorful but what I got was dry (with crusty bits) and not very flavorsome. The sauce was the only satisfactory component imo. What I got tonight was basically steamed chicken breast with dry chicken flavored rice which I can make better at home, so I am quite disappointed. I’d recommend putting some more thought into this dish or it’s better to have a smaller menu and not serve it altogether. Hope you make some changes.

Satay chicken was not upto the mark. Just hard dry fried chicken piece with peanut sauce on side. Did not seem like Thai or Malaysian style. Bbq chicken Laos style was also not good as we were served pieces of hard dry fried chicken with no bbq flavour , just sweet chilli sauce on side. We did not try the noodles but seemed people were enjoying it a lot. Also, we ordered a chowmein style noodles but were served fried noodles with chicken curry on top(was good) -no complains Place may be good for noodles but did not seem it met my experience based on previous food encounters. Personally, I suggest that the dishes need some improvements. To the owner: please let me know and correct me if there is anything that I may be wrong of (as food (itself a culture) depends on the traditional values, I may be unaware of it). Thanks

A popular little noodle restaurant in Dicksons Chinatown. They offer a wide variety of noodle choices from various Asian countries. I found the laksa to be tasty but there was enough broth in the bowl to allow for a true soup noodle experience. The pad Thai was cooked well but also lacked a little flavour. Overall not a bad place casual dining place, the service was average.

As the name suggests this place does different types of Asian noodles and it does it well with reasonable prices - we had a selection of noodles including Laksa's, Singapore noodles and Pad See Ew. The satay was fried and not grilled as you would typically get in Singapore but my kids still enjoyed them. When we got here it was a full house but the waitress made every effort to accomodate our group of 8. Our food came quickly and all dishes were well proportioned. Not sure if Laksa's are typically bigger elsewhere but the 'Jumbo' Laksa was not as big as I would've expected - order 2!

Was recommended the laksa here...Had the combination laksa and was definitely not disappointed. The noodle house was quite busy even close to closing hours. The laksa comes in a rich coconut and curry broth overloaded with various toppings (duck, pork, beef, tofu) with perfectly cooked noodles soaking in all the flavors. The service was excellent and the dishes come extremely quick. The numerous awards plastered over the walls are well deserved.

Never had a bad meal here. Food is always fresh and very tasty.

They have excellent service but the food is just quite bland and that was very disappointing.
Frog&Nutella
The combination laksa here is pretty good, but that's pretty much it.

The char kway teoh was super salty and so saturated in oil that I had to use a napkin to elevate one side of the plate so that the oil could drain off the noodles.

I also foolishly ordered the hainan chicken, which was essentially over-boiled chicken breast on a bed of bok choy with some watered down garlic soy sauce on the side. To make it worse, it was served with plain rice.

1) Poor service, made two mistakes with the order. 2) Food quality very poor. 3) They do not accept credit card and they are belligerent about it. Do yourself a favour - There are plenty of much better places within close walking distance.

Despite the high ratings here, this was clearly the least of the places we visited on our recent Canberra trip.

We arrived on a Tuesday around 6:15 to a nearly empty restaurant and asked for a table for 3. We were a bit surprised when we were asked if we had a booking. When we said no we were told we could stay if we were out by 7:00.

The first thing to note was the menu. There were China, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Singapore and even Japan represented in a sort of "we've said were Asian so we'd better cover most of it" deal.

This always worries me. It's hard enough to get even one cuisine right and when you're offering Pad Thai, Laksa, Won Ton soup and Tempura vegetables all on the same menu then the margin of error increases dramatically.

We ordered and food started to arrive promptly. Thai fish cakes and crab claw entrees were a bit bland and, I suspect, commercially made and freshly defrosted to order.

The rest of the meal was a bit Ho hum and reminded me of the sort of thing that you got regularly in the suburbs in the 80s and 90s when we all wanted to be exotic but didn't quite know how.

When we left (yes, before 7:00) the place had filled up. Significantly there didn't seem to be many Asian people in which suggested that people in the know knew better.

This is without a doubt the best laksa in Australia.

Since moving to Sydney I haven’t been able to enjoy laksa the same way.

When in Canberra there is only one thing I need. This.

I ran into this restaurant just before closing time. The staff welcomed us and was very kind.
The food was served quickly and the price was reasonable. Although the taste was good, I felt salty both dishes we ordered. May need to try different dishes next time.

Large tasty servings (we had a Lao minced chicken dish and chicken cashew stir fry - am on a no red meat/seafood diet). It was almost too much for us (two males). Service was responsive, crisp and brisk. Atmosphere isn’t a strong point but value for money and taste makes this a standout. Highly recommended

Food was alright, but the staff was extremely rude. This is one of those places with a $30 eftpos minimum (Like seriously, what the hell???). When I got up to the register and didn't have the required $27 to pay my bill, the woman belittled me and made me feel like some kind of criminal for needing to use eftpos. The food would have to be way better for me to put up with that kind of treatment in the future. Needless to say, won't be returning.
Bugrit
Tried their hainan chicken and wasn't to my liking. I had to ask for the soup which was too sweet, the sauce didn't have enough ginger. Chicken was tender but really needed the sauce. I guess I will have to try their laksa before giving up.

Came here on a busy Friday night and was lucky enough to score the last table. I heard that their laksa were the go to so I ordered one of those as well as a duck char kway teow and vegetables. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were alright. It's quiet a small restaurant so tables are closely packed in and it's awkward when takeaway people come in waiting for their food and watch you eat. Service was pretty standard but very fast past and almost a bit frantic, like they are trying to clear you off the table asap.
Kirsty Kwan
Came for dinner today and enjoyed very fast service, both FOH and BOH staff worked extremely efficiently, servers were attentive and quick, got meals in under 10 minutes after ordering, which is very impressive given it was a busy Friday night. I had the Pad Thai which was very nice and was the perfect portion size. Will definitely be back again!
Lachlan Hoyle
Came here based on the recommendations about the laksa and quite enjoyed it. A little on the sweeter side (at least to our taste) but had a nice subtle heat to it. Portion sizes are generous with lots of meat and very fairly priced. Others have said the seafood laksa is mostly crab stick so might want to avoid that one, but the chicken one is quite good and very satisfying on a cold night. The noodle dishes are cooked in too much oil but otherwise have a good flavour. Service is pretty good and the food arrives quickly. Not sure if we would leap at the chance to come here again but we'll definitely keep it as a good option to fall back on when we're in the area.

Was very excited to try this place however do think it may be slightly overrated. I will be back and would recommend the stirfrys (hokkien vegetable). Good flavour, fresh tofu and veg, good portion, fast service and very very cheap. I risked the tempura prawns as an entree even though getting takeaway and they were very soggy and the prawn itself was over cooked. The menu was very extensive and am keen to try this again (eating in). Service was satisfactory.
Second visit: better experience dining in, the food is still very casual, very fast and very cheap. Good flavour and very generous size.

I came here for lunch after reading all the good reviews however I was very disappointed. I expected authentic food and it did not deliver. The laksa was definitely not a Malaysian or Singaporean laksa. Portion size was small eventhough we ordered the large size laksa. Char Kway Teow had no 'wok hei' and was very oily. They should really just call it stir fry rice noodle. The crispy chow mein was probably the best dish that we ordered. I wonder how they get such a high rating.
Joselyn Erlina
the chicken pad thai here is really great! give it a try if u come here. but the way they describing chinese people is really rude for me. im just a homestay student, i went here with my host family. my host mom got a bad experience, there was a raw chicken piece in her dish. and when aaron complained to the waitress, the waitress started to judge chinese people with the rude way and i don't like the way she talk. the thai laksa is quite good too, im liking this place bcs its food. maybe u guys should give it a try!
Kent Soh Yong Keng
Char kuey tiew is too oily. Panang Chicken is So So. I guess we will have to order the recommended laksa in reviews, not other dishes. Atmosphere is good and Staff is lovely.

Dickson Asian Noodle House is a must eat at institution if you want incredibly tasty, affordable and traditional Asian dishes. The lack of credit card facilities is a massive letdown but for locals it is ideal.

Clickety click for full review and have a great day :).

This place is reknown for its laksa, in my opinion, the best in Canberra. Rich and flavoursome, plenty of delicious fillings. If it was a little spicier I'd rate it a 5.
We had the combination laksa with duck, roast pork, chicken, vege and tofu. You can order a half serve when dining in, if you prefer a smaller serve.
Note they don't accept credit cards, only cash or eftpos over $30.
Sunny_V
Bit hit and miss actually...went while visiting Canberra due to all the great reviews on this website but the food was a bit of a let down. Service was a bit abrupt too..
Jmanchatty
Love the jumbo laksa here. So much meat (duck squid etc) and the soup is pretty good too but not spicy enough for my taste. Definitely one of the best laksa ive had
Mina Ma
Worst chicken wings we have ever had. Super dry and small. Laksa soup was fabulous but you can taste the fridge smell of the squids. Pad Thai taste fine but noodles was hard.
Nick Smith
Laksa is full of MSG. We definitely would not return to Asian Noodle House.
I decided to order Laksa and There are tons of MSG added in Laksa, that make me feel sick and thirsty. I started to notice bad side effects from what appeared to MSG make me headache 24 hours, vomiting and my stomach wound. They should declare that MSG is added on the menu. And, this type of MSG is also not good for kids at all. Fish cakes taste like they were made with half fish- half flour. My friend ordered Pad Thai and came with black colour noodles, it's fake and not based on tomato paste that we used to have at other restaurants. Would not recommend this ! Avoid !
Lauren Green
Got takeaway from here. The food was ready quickly, but they didn't listen to us properly and thought we ordered 2 of a dish, rather than one with an extra ingredient (didn't realise because there were a number of us on the one order). The green curry was nice, but tasted mostly of lemon grass. The Singapore noodles were pretty good.
G
I'd say this is one of the closest laksas that I've had in Canberra that reminds me of the ones from Singapore. Not the usual laksas found in Australia that are usually added with heaps of sugar, you can actually taste the coconut milk in the creamy and mildly spiced laksa broth.
This was the combination laksa, so I got to try out a variety of meats. I enjoyed the duck and char siew the most.
Would go back and try other yummy stuff on the menu. Can't wait!
Matt
If it's quality table service you're looking for, then the Dickson Asian Noodle House is not for you. But, if you want a good laksa, this is a place you really should make sure you visit! I went for the combination laksa on my last visit, and have tried a few others - the duck laksa makes for something different.
It's BYO, so you can bring your own alcohol. Note that there is EFTPOS for purchases of $30+, but no credit card facility.

The noodle is good, fast served, too much MSG. Downside is cash only! 😂 I like the laksa noodle. It is always crowded during lunch and dinner time.
Danielabinder1
Went two years ago, had such a bad bout of food poisoning afterwards I never went back. Until this week when we just happened to have a bday dinner there. I was careful this time and ordered a soup so that I knew it had been cooked recently. I even let my friends know what happened last time. Unbelievably two people at that dinner came down with food poisoning after their meal. This place needs an OH&S check stat!
C.S.
The laksa is fantastic - just enough spice, the soup is nice and hot, plenty of noodles and ingredients. My friend had the pad thai and found it tasty and satisfying.
Absolute Vy
One of the overrated place in Canberra. Food is good especially pad thai and laksa. Service is minimal. If it is crowded your request might not be done at all.
Jelly Belly
I guess I expected so much when I heard it was the BEST in the whole of Canberra that when the waitress came by to take our orders and asked us whether we wanted crab in our curry laksa, I thought that it was those actual mud crab! *Salivating madly* So when they served out a bowl of hot steaming mouth watering curry laksa filled to the brim with prawn, BBQ pork, noodle and tofu pok, I still felt disappointed that it was crab sticks they meant and not actual crab! Ok, in their defense, a $10+ dish would not warrant a mud crab, right? But well, a girl could dream. :P
Mass produced. After all the talk to say the least ,I was very disappointed - I could tell my vegetables and laksa soup wer mass produced hours before ,the restaurant was tiny with extra tiny tables and I just couldn't enjoy myself - and hundreds of people coming and going for take away is not my idea of a nice meal at all- Canberra biggest myth by far

Ordinary Food, bad service. Over rated restaurant. good is very average to say the least. Service is terrible, they're just too busy to care and treat customers like its their privilege to eat there.
Alice Mackie
Most over rated restaurant in canberra. The last 5 times I have gone to asian noodle house I have sworn to never go back but always go with company that like the food (not sure why). I have consistently received greasy, bland and overcooked asian classics for the last year. The service is un-accomodating and increasingly unfriendly! Please reconsider your choice before attending asian noodle house because there are far better options in the dickson region!!!!
HungryHorse
Sorry we went. I used to love this restaurant but my recent visit was woeful. It used to have great laksa. We ordered 2 seafood laksa and 1 vegetable laksa - all terrible. They consisted of a big bowl chock full of both rice and wheat noodles, an ok but insipid broth and a modest garnish of other ingredients. The seafood laksa had seafood extender in it. Really? Like the seafood laksa the vegetable laksa had almost no vegetables in it. Again, really? A reduction in noodles and an increase in veggies would have improved it a lot. Also give up the seafood extender. Keep it for the stray cats in the neighbourhood. A fried rice was so greasy no-one ate it. The service was alright and it is still a cheap night out but I would prefer to pay a little more for better food. You used to have so many fresh healthy ingredients, Dickson Asian Noodle House. What happened?
Dine
Subpar service & so so food. Despite a number of negative reviews on this website, I decided to give this place a try. The restaurant was quite empty during lunch hours on weekdays. We took time to read their menu as it was extensive and we like to find the ones that we want the most. A female waitress came to our table withint TWO minutes after we sat down and was about to take order. Felt a bit rushed to order.

We ordered a chicken laksa and a duck laksa as they appear to be very popular among urban spoon diners. The food came in five minutes. Well, when cooking noodle alone would take at least five minutes, it was too obvious the food was pre-made. The laksa consists of two types of noodle (thin rice noodle and hokkien noodle), which was very wierd to me. I have been to a few laksa places in the past and never had a mixture of noodles in one dish. The taste was so so.

When we almost finished, the lady owner started giving out complimentary crab crackers to people who just came in. For whatever reason, she seemed to ignore us even we had been sitting there for nearly an hour. Not that I desperately needed those small snacks, but it would be a lot nice to give us an explantion.

If you don't mind being treated as a second-class citizen and just go for the food, I guess it's an okay place to dine in. But make sure you drink plenty of water, as those food really leave you thirsty afterwards (too salty, or too much MSG?)

Good Food Bad Service. Came here for the first time with my girlfriend to fulfil my asian food cravings. I was seriously disappointed by the bad service from a female waitress who was just utterly rude. Will not come here again.

Didn't get to eat here. Had to settle for a nearby dirty Chinese place instead because upon arriving at 9pm was told the kitchen would be shut and there would be no more orders taken. Nevermind it says closing time is 10pm. Staff were rude. Why is it so hard to get food after 9pm in Canberra on a weekend!
Lahnne_rose
WTF. This is normally one of my FAVOURITE places to eat. I live in Dickson and I go here regularly. BUT I called up just now to book for tonight (its a Thursday) I asked to book 2 people for 6pm. The girl on the phone asked me if we could be done by 7pm, I said uhhh probably not, as I like to order entrees, drinks, and mains, and enjoy myself and not be rushed, being limited to an hour is pretty ridiculous. I asked 'are you booked out?' and she said no and then said, 'we are really busy Thursday nights so we want you in and out.' Not kidding. How ridiculous. I said I'll go somewhere else and hanged up. What the eff? One hour? I feel like asking for the manager and complaining but you know what places like that are like. I'm cut, I love eating there and feel like I shouldn't because of their attitude.
Sienna_k
Amazing laksas and pad Thais! Also try the Penang prawns...delish!
Be prepared to get in and out quick though..and book a table if you're with a large group.

Best duck laksa in Canberra... Title says it all people.

Some reason the Dickson Noodle House don't rate as high as the Civic one. Food here is full flavored but really oily, salty and not balanced... Waste money somewhere else.
Mick
Best Laksa. Absolutely delicious Duck Laksa. One of the best I have had. Ask for some coconut juice to wash it down. Very fast service. You do get the feeling they want you in and out quick, thats ok as the food makes up for the rushed feeling. Order another coconut juice and savour the flavours!
Foodlover
Bland food with bad service. This may have been the quickest dinners, but also one of the worst I have had for a long time. All the food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering (never a good sign in my book) including the starters and mains within 2-3 minutes of each other. So the food was just piling up, with the staff just plonking the next one down not caring that we hadn't had even begun the previous course. Despite advertising a 10 pm closing time, at 9.15, they started putting up the chairs and vacuuming around us! When we wanted to finish our drink and conversation, the manager came over at 9.30 and told us they were closing. The food was ordinary - it's always disappointing when you know you can do better yourself. The duck laksa seemed to consist of a base of weakly flavoured laksa onto which some diced duck had been chopped. If so, that would explain the speed and the lack of flavour. There were a few pieces of bok choy, no other veges and mostly rice noodles. Perhaps this is the best laksa in Canberra, but it is woeful by any other standards. Cannot recommend for any part of the experience.
Magdalene Nicholls
Absolutely delicious, you can't go wrong with the Laska. It's fresh, so tasty and filling. There is nothing like this warm dish on a cold miserable day in Canberra. I haven't tried the other dishes but, there is no need - the Laska never disappoints and there are many choices ie. duck, seafood, vegetarian and combination. The Asian noodle house in civic is also a treat!
Sam Alexis
Great laksa. You must try the duck laksa.
Unbelievable value for money and just a great dish.
Judy2613
Unfriendly female staff. The food was good, but the female staff were unfriendly and arrogant. They were kind just to some people whom they like. It was so odd and unpleasant. My friend and I would not go there anymore.
Ade
Best of the Best. Cannot go past this restaurent.... UNREAL both food and value for $$$$$. We just moved to the ACT and it will be our once a week place, loved it keep it up please
Johnnie Heaslip
This place is often referred to as the 'Laksa House' as it has the best Laksa in town
B Lee
This is not the original laksa and the Hainam chicken rice is below average.
If you are looking for Malaysian/Singaporean laksa, this is not the one. The curry taste like Thai green curry, and too sugary sweet. Although it has all the ingredients of a laksa, and taste not bad, is not laksa.
The Hainam chicken rice or more commonly known as Hainan chicken rice is disappointing. The chicken is over cooked, the rice has no flavor and the sauce is wrong. Unless this is another coincidence that this cooking of chicken rice is also known as Hainam chicken rice in Thai, based on the Malaysian/Singaporean tradition, this chicken rice is not authentic.
John
Gone down hill :(. The Noodle House used to have the best laksa in town, without a doubt. However, I got a veggie laksa for takeaway the other night and I have to say I was disappointed. Too little soup for the amount of noodle, only bok choy and no other vegetables and only a very small amount of bok choy at that, far too little egg noodle (almost entirely rice noodles), and small tofu puffs (as opposed to the nice, big puffy ones they used to serve). This could have been a one-off, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to find an alternative place for laksa rather than risking it :(
Luke
Best laksa in town. For those unfamiliar to Canberra's one-street-Chinatown, this little restaurant is an institution. While the service is so-so (they usually give you a time limit on when you need to vacate the table), the food is amazing. In particular, try the laksa.

For those that are gluten free, the menu's not particularly GF friendly, but the staff can let you know what's got gluten in it or not.
Terumi Asano
We love this little eatery, always pop in whenever we come Canberra. As other reviewers said, one of the best laksa here, one bowl of jumbo laksa is good enough to share with my hubby and myself for lunch. Duck rice is good, too. Rice is cooked with soup stock here. Really yummy but cheap! I love crispy noodle, too. Crunchy noodle & oozy sauce sensation !
Jessica Vonhearst
The noodle specialist! Everything I have tried here has been amazing! Quick service too! If you are after a laksa I'd definetely recommend this place
PJ
Arrived 9pm in need of a quick feed after a gruelling day. Welcomed with "You have to eat and leave by 9.30pm". I nodded, eagerly, as he was wielding a meat cleaver. I agreed, was seated, presented with rice noodles, vegetables and tofu (which was oddly very dry and tasteless). My colleague had rice noodles with seafood, featuring seafood extender, a glaring culinary faux pas, not expected in an urbanspoon achiever. I should have got the laksa that people talk about. $13-15 were the price of our dishes, can get better cheaper in Melbourne all day long. Pass.
Lena Fenner
Best Laksa!. Sit, order, eat, pay and leave :))))
Anna Banana
Laksa!. Nothing more needs to be said. Service is no-nonsense, but you don't come here to have your butt kissed.
Pippi
Yummy Foods. Most of the food are yummy, but don't count on the service. They're not exactly the most friendly people in Canberra.
Rebecca Clancy
We loved this place! Food was excellent and service suburb! All reasonably priced as well!!!!
Emily
Pretty good. My partner and I ate here recently. We recently moved from Adelaide, where there is a huge range of Asian restaurants. So far, all restaurants in ACT have been more expensive than Adelaide. Food wise, most have been only comparable or not as good.
My laksa was nice - a mild version but with a good amount of meat. Lacking vegetables though. My partner was very happy with his duck dish. For ACT this is probably a pretty good place to get a meal.

We were thoroughly looking forward To dining here after reading the raving reviews about the place and we definitely did not come disappointed. The laksa really was delicious, as was their spin of Thai massaman beef curry. Only downsides are the cheap and nasty Hot Dollar plates and bowls and the very sour floor staff. For the sake of your own happiness find another bloody job if you're hating this one so much. But this place is still highly recommended. We ended up coming back for lunch before heading back to Sydney!
Ash
Great laksa. The laksa is definitely the star here. I've had better laksas in Sydney, but this is by far the best in Canberra.
Kitty
The Dickson Asian Noodle House serves the best laksa I have ever eaten. You definitely need to book a table if you're heading there at a peak time, but don't worry if they're full - takeaway is just as good! Take cash (or EFTPOS) as they don't accept credit cards.
Pat Birgan
The Green Curry Chicken is so good. Overheard some guests talking about how much better the laksa's are vs the GCC. Laksa is great but GCC is top shelf.
Steve Barker
Can't beat the duck laksa here and the bustling atmosphere makes for a laid-back night out. Service can occasionally be inattentive but food makes update for it.
Tav
Laksa Heaven. As per most of the reviews, go for the Laksa. A healthy choice it may not be, but I do not think you will get another chance to have such a spectacular laksa. I got the jumbo combination, plenty of variety and all the meat was beautifully cooked. Dining companions got singapore noodles and a beef noodle dish - for the price I am not concerned about the service. Very quick and very satisfying, highly reccomend the drive out of town especially if you are on a road trip like I was
Bree
I have travelled the world looking for a good laksa but always come back to the noodle house, have been going there for years. The laksa here is amazing and never disappoints!
Trish
Love the Laksa. We get takeaway from here at least once a month and I almost always order the Chicken Laksa. It's delicious, filling, fresh and consistently good.
Kayem
Firm Hokkien noodles stir fried in dark soya with beef, nice big prawns, squid and Chinese vegetables. It is impossible to beat this dish for simple, well balanced flavours, consistent high quality and at about $12, great value for money.
The Canberra Eater
Good, cheap, tasty Asian dishes. I love that they serve half-sized laksa too!
Snow Crab Nebula
Had a very plain and greasy kway teow here, no wok hey. The laksa that M got was alright, very average especially in light of the fact their pride themselves on their laksas. The second (and hopefully last) time I came here I was dragged kicking and screaming here by friends; seriously, I was so reluctant to eat here it nearly started a fight. That time I had a chicken crispy fried noodle which was was predictably very mediocre and laden with large strips of ginger which rendered it rather unpleasant to eat. I live close to the Belconnen Asian Noodle House and needless to say, I've never bothered to eat there.

After returning from a lovely weekend getaway in the Blue Mountains, the SO and I weren’t particularly interested in cooking so we went and met a friend for dinner at Dickson Asian Noodle House. I had the forethought to make a booking this time. On the one hand, they will always squeeze you in. On the other, however, they’ll do so as long as you promise you can finish in 25 minutes and we wanted to be able to take our time. Our first ever bowl of laksa was consumed here a year and a half ago and we have yet to find a laksa we like better (though I’m keen to try Mekong River next door). I’m pretty sure the Noodle House already has a solid reputation for laksa so I’ll keep this short. I ordered the combo laksa. I always enjoy the fried tofu that soaks up the rich flavour of the broth. And frankly, I just like duck. It’s not the best duck I’ve ever had but it makes a nice addition to the soup. Half-size combination laksa On a whim, I ordered a side of sticky rice ($5), intrigued by the w

We checked in at the hotel and straight away went to Dickson Asian Noodle house. They offer not only Chinese Malay food but also Thai food too. Ordered Combination laksa. The coconut soup is not as thick and coconuty as other laksa. It is very light and also the amount of meats (pork, chicken, duck) in there is more than the vermicilli itself.

Sudden craving of Chinese Malaysian food led me to Dickson Asian Noodle House. I have been there for about 5 times and this restaurant has never disappointed me in terms of the meals served. This place serves Malaysian, Laos & Thai cuisine however I am only interested in the Malaysian food here. When my friends from other states asked me for a recommendation of a restaurant to go to when they visit Canberra, this restaurant is the first one coming to my mind. Make sure you make a reservation for a definite spot to enjoy the delicious food especially dinner time otherwise you will either have to find somewhere else to eat or only have short time (in my case 45 minutes) to finish your meal and leave! The restaurant is also fully booked on weeknights not just on the weekends. Dickson Asian Noodle House (My Rating: 8/10) We ordered 3 dishes for dinner, the dishes came in a flash and each dish did not come on the same time as what you usually expected at a hawker restaurant. Combination C

The place is not what it seems. Don’t expect to find amusement or entertainment from a heavy hearted collection of memoirs from the Australian soldiers who died for yours, my, OUR country. The gallery/ museum of the War Memorial exhibits from the time of the First Settlement, WWI to today with articles ranging from uniforms, personal belongings, paintings, miniature displays to aircraft models.

Being billed as having the best laksa in the ACT puts some pressure on a place - so I was curious to see if the hype was true. It was. The stuff here is great.
