Located by the lake just near Commonwealth Bridge is a collection of funky container stalls selling an array of food!!! The One is at the centre of all this selling a decent variety of soft shelled tacos at a good price (approx 12 for 2 tacos). Today's selection was pulled pork and then a fish taco (see picture). A good size and it was definitely enough for a Friday lunch! Go and have a look, if it doesn't tickle your fancy the there are other great little stalls to look at!!!

Yet again a visit to West Acton Park after a bike ride around the lake. On most nights you'll find that the business here have very few customers which makes it easier to find seats and chillax while eating some decent food. Don't let the lack of crowd be the judge of quality. Still quite a conservative food haunt for those in the know... but it won't stay much of a secret for long.

The dish to come for at The One would have to be their press buns. I asked for a recommendation and the bun of choice suggested was The Cubanos - A buttered American Style Bun housing home made onions, pickle mix, chilli emulsion, slaw, slow cooked sous vide pork, honey smoked ham, cheese mix and mustard.

The initial view of the cross section was picture perfect. This itself shows pressed bun perfection to a tee. As you first chomp into it, the fillings all meld together into this oozy goodness that just made me smile. Everything worked so well in harmony, the sauces were subtle yet present, the meat was tender but not disintegrated and the cheese and pickles add the random spikes of interest that kept me wanting more. Though the price was on the higher end at $13,50 for a sandwich essentially, you definitely pay for what you get.

The Flat Head Taco filled with guac, Thai slaw, beer battered flathead, garlic and sumac emulsion, pickle mix and fresh lime was another story. The fish was crunchy but dry... too heavily deep fried with thick batter that left me wishing for more fish. The sauces and additions just didn't add anything to pick up the dish from that point.

Service is friendly and professional but you will be whacked with a credit card surchage. Nonetheless definitely swing pass this shipping container village filled with good eats and stop by The One for their pressed buns... a nice different but not so different change from the good ol' burger.

Another hidden gem at the Westside Acton Park. The One is a takeout specialising in American style deli sandwiches (think Cubanos, Reubens, Philly cheesesteak etc) with some other stuff thrown in the menu like tacos, wings and salad. I tried the Cubano; which is pulled pork, ham, onions, pickles, mustard and cheese between a toasted bun, it had a chilli emulsion added which made it different from the original but I'm not complaining as it was still melt-in-the-mouth delicious. The meat was cooked sous vide style and you could tell given how tender it was. Definitely going back for a second visit since this is something you can't get elsewhere here.

How can you go wrong with soft squishy BUTTERY bread and meat, contrasted with pickles and cheese? Simple answer: you freakin' can't. The One has an amazing cubanos that is just that - everything that is right with a top-of-the-range meat-packed toasted sandwich for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely be back. Read on!

Last time we went to Westside, my friend got a sandwich from The One and I promised myself I would get it on my next visit. So, instead of making a beeline for Miss Van’s, I branched out. The One offers a range of meat-packed sandwiches and tacos, and I was tempted by the promise of pickles on their Cubanos – slow-cooked pork, pickles, onion, leg honey ham, mustard and cheese, toasted. I chose the large size ($12.50), but it ended up being large enough for two lunches (!) so I would probably get the small size ($8.50) next time. This sandwich was to die for. I LOVED IT. Firstly the pork. There was LOTS of it – I’m talking tender, tasty, melt-in-your-mouth – and it went perfectly with the slightly sweet honey ham. There were plenty of bits of pickle throughout, and what really kicked the whole thing into the ‘out of this world good’ category was the mustard. I really loved the buttered American-style bun too. Ok, I loved everything about it, and, bonus, I got to enjoy the second half the next day. Get on it people, this is the real deal.
