Excellent for South indian food.
A nice small place at Market City, Canning Vale.
Had the Veg Thali and it was really good. Got 5-6 different veg curries, yogurt raita, sweet milk vermicelli, served with Roti, Rice, a small pickle serve and papadam!

Tried the Ghee Dosa which was Huuuuuuuuuuuge! Came with some tomato paste and coconut chutney. A big greasy for my liking but worth it as it tasted great too.
They have a non-Veg curry as well that serves 3 Veg and 3 non-veg curries with the same add ons as the veg.
They have a Paneer Dosa as well that wasn’t that bad either. Comes like a paneer salad in a dosa by the looks of it but in a stir fry type and flavoursome.
Mango Lassi was nice and fresh.
Great value overall so will definitely give it another go to try the variety of the menu.
I like the pill type hand towels at the end to wipe all the food stains away 😋

Tried Ghee Masala Dosa. This is the biggest dosa I have ever eaten. Sambar was great. Chutney could be bit better. Overall it was a nice meal. Must try this dosa at least once.

If you read the reviews this place polarises people like no other (later explanation). Anyway coming back from my regular visit to the markets, I popped in to try one of the weekend specials (do not ask me why Dosa's and Idli's are sold only at weekends...must be a demand and supply issue). Anyway I tried the Rava Dosa, it arrived (large semolina based thin pancake with a 3 chutneys) have to say it wasn't bad, but i am no expert as I tend not to like Southern Indian food, but if its good enough for Deepika Padukone (a goddess) then its good enough for me. All in all i enjoyed the flavors, presentation and service. So why does this place polarise people in the negative, firstly a section would be people used to Perth's fake Punjabi 'Indian Food' and fawning service, secondly Indians who have been exposed to southern food at home (cant beat mum's cooking) and this fails to meet their expectations, and thirdly people who try this type of food for the first time, and just do not like it.
By the way the standard of service is authentically Indian, haphazard but ultimately succeeds, equally I hope the Mumbai Indians will do the same in the IPL.
The briyani and masala dosa are a must try. I come here all the time for lunch during weekend and the food never disappoint! They also have delicious mango lassi 😋
My First time walking into an Indian joint in Perth, had the vada and masala dosa here liked both of it can't compare it to the ones back home. But definitely had a good brekky the masala chai was really good could get a wee bit stronger though. Definitely will walk into this place for dinner and the other food served, servers were courteous polite and a pleasantly delightful Ambience with old Bollywood music in the back ground.
Great place! First Indian restaurant we've found that does a thali plate south of the river and lucky for us it's just around the corner. Wonderful authentic flavours at a great price. You can even grab a traditional dessert from next door in the shop - try the kalakand barfi. We'll be back for sure.... Think we've found our new curry spot.
We have been coming to JB for over 3 years on a regular basis, driving from the other side of the city. The menu isn't huge, but the dishes are truly exceptional. Watching someone eat their first ghee masala roast dosa or bathura bread is almost as good as eating it yourself. Some dishes are very hard to get anywhere else in Perth, and when I've eaten them overseas they just aren't as good as here.
What better than going to Janani Bhavan every time you run out of options. Visited again for some hundredth time today. Great food and a very unique menu compared to most of the restaurants in Perth. Delicious Authentic South Indian Food and the North Indian food is also great. Janani Bhavan shows consistency across its various units.

Very disappointed with recent changes. I love Janani Bhavan and come here regularly for their beautiful thalis. However recently the portion sizes have gotten noticeably smaller with the prices remaining the same. There has been some issues with consistency where one day the sizes will be generous (like they used to be), then the next they're tiny. So I'm not sure what we're supposed to be getting but it's seriously disappointing.
The food is usually delicious and I've brought lots of friends and family here to eat, although even the quality has started to change (new chef perhaps?). Recently the veg thali came with mock meat curries that was quite disconcerting and not what we usually come to enjoy. It's such a shame as we love South Indian food and were so happy with this gem of a place but if this is the way the restaurant is going, I don't think we'll continue to eat here or recommend it to our friends.
