I went here last week on a deal from an app and was really impressed. Great depth of flavour in the curries, particularly a prawn one. The vibe inside was cosy and intimate and the family who own the joint were professional and attentive.
Found this little gem by chance on EatClub. And what a great find. Warm service by this little local family run joint. Will definitely be back.
A family run eatery who serve the best Murtaaba. Must try this place.
This loca, family-run gem serves really delicious flavoursome food at an incredible price. The ayam rendang was an absolute standout, I'm still dreaming about it. The roti was so flaky in the murtabak, next time I'll be trying the roti desserts.
Zafeera's is a lovely family run restaurant, I was invited to dine with a group of friends. The restaurant is nice and cosy inside, staff were so friendly and warm.
We started off with some yummy entrees, the fennel chicken was my fav main dish! The heat from this was perfect for me, I love spice and this was making me sweat! Haha The biryani was really nice too. All in all, a great restaurant with really good food.
Thanks for having us, we had a fab time!
Got invited with a group of friends to try out the menu and I left very full.
The veggie pakora was my favourite entree. The pea batter was crispy and seasoned well with the spices. The mint chutney really help balance out the dish. My favourite main was the fennel chicken, it had a good level of heat to it from the red chillis and fennel seeds. The eeman fish kari also deserves a mention as it was flavoursome and the fish was very tender.
Over all this family run restaurant serves up tasty humble food with friendly service. A great place to bring the family.
From the moment you walk in you will feel a warm welcome and part of the family. Vibrant colors from th curries will be sure to catch your eyes. My favourite was the fish curry which was rich and creamy. The fennel chicken curry was also delicious and has a some heat to it. There was so much food on offer so make sure to bring your friends and share it round.
Was an absolute pleasure.
A family run restaurant in Carlton, Zafeera's is a favourite with the locals. It's not hard to see why - delicious, unpretentious food that reminds you of home cooking.
The curries are the star here. Hearty, rich and downright creamy. We sampled a few different curries and my favourite was definitely their signature Fennel Chicken curry. The addition of fennel and red chillies added a depth of layer, and a punchy flavour to the curry. Definitely a dish with a kick to it. The Eeman Fish curry was excellent. It was milder in taste, but the tamarind sauce lent a tangy touch to the curry, and the fish were cooked to perfection.
The roti are incredibly flaky, and buttery enough with making me feel guilty about digging into one. The murtabak was similarly delicious, and very moreish. The Mee Goreng Mamak reminded me of the ones you can get at the mamak stalls in Malaysia, being rather spot on with the flavours.
We were rolling out of the door after our meal, and I must thank the owners for their wonderful hospitality!
So I just tried this place for the first time and absolutely loved it.
The story:
This is very much a family operation. The patriarch of the family said that they have been in Australia since January and the restaurant has been open for a bit more than 3 months. Originally from Ipoh (Anyone who knows malaysian food knows that Ipoh is pretty high up on the food scene) this is Malaysian Mamak style food.
The Menu:
A good hybrid of indian and malaysian dishes. Unapologetically not committing to either "standard" Malaysian food like Char Kway Teoh or Laksa's. Prices are all very reasonable with no dish more than 14 dollars (prawns) but most everything else is 11-12 dollars. We had a small lunch of a couple of orders of Roti Canai (4/serve), Mee Goreng Mamak (11), and an order of Chicken 65 (9)
I LOVED the Roti Canai. The Roti was flakey but still had a nice sense of dougheyness and springiness. I loved that it was not oily at all. Which let it taste nice and light. The curry sauce and daal were both lovely with me giving a slight edge to the curry sauce.
The Mee Goreng Mamak was absolutely delicious as well. A lovely hint of smoke ran through the dish with enough chilli and soy that gave you lots of flavour well balanced. My cousin who usually is not a fan of noodles said it was one of the better orders of noodles she's ever had.
The chicken 65 was a 4/5 for me. Given I'm not a huge Chicken 65 fan but this was delicious and well balanced. My cousin who reckons herself a bit of an aficionado really enjoyed the balance of flavours of the dish.
Overall I was very happy with this spot. I hope they do well and I think they would be better served if they advertised a bit about their story to give a more personal connection to the restaurant.
I'm planning on going back very soon to try other items on their menu. Namely the Nasi Lemak and beef rendang as well as the Murtabak
