We are pleasantly surprised by the variety and spread of food they have here. Staff are polite and food is fresh. For the price of $30 per pax for lunch, it is very worth it. Will definitely be back!

Good place to have a casual dinner, easy booking and a lot of variety food to choose. Good value a buffet with all sort of food from seafood to hot food and dessert. This is our second time to be here.

Only one thing need to improve is 5.30 open the shop , everything has to set up perfect from plate need in place, hot food Bain Marie need to start up early to keep hot food hot inside .

Other than these, everything was perfect. Thanks

A hot pot is perfect for a cold winters night and that’s exactly the kind of night it’ was when my partner and I met Jojo Armani and her partner for dinner.

This restaurant is located along Dandenong Road next to offices so it’s a bit tricky to find. But once upstairs this restaurant is big, clean and the range of food is excellent.

They have roast duck pancakes, spring rolls and other hot entrees including fish fingers lol

The selection of meats for your hot pot is extensive, all fresh and good quality.

For seafood lovers there were plenty of prawns, pippies, octopus, squid, fish paste, and other goodies.

For the vegetarians and vegans there were 3 types of mushrooms, fungi, Chinese donuts, cabbage and other veggies.

They also had hand made noodles that the waitress prepared at our table. Yummo! The condiments were extensive and plentiful.

I tried a spicy hot pot and the medicine hot pot both of which were delicious. The only negative for me was that the floor was so sticky that my feet stuck to the floor. Hopefully they can use a different floor cleaner soon.

Overall this place is worth a visit.

When the weather is cold and miserable, there’s nothing like a good old hotpot to the rescue! At $39.90 per person for an all-you-can-eat dinner experience, Bai Wei Lao offers that much needed winter warming solution.

Arriving 5 minutes earlier than their stipulated opening time of 5.30pm, we (and other diners) were politely told to take a seat at the designated waiting area while the staff continued prepping.

When it was time, we were all ushered to a beautiful oriental-themed dining hall and seated accordingly. Once we both picked our soup bases from the list provided, we were set to go.

Starting off with some hot food whilst waiting for our soups to come to the boil, most of the ones we sampled weren’t too bad, however the Mapo Tofu was really good and the Peking Duck was just amazing! My advise is to skip the pancakes for the duck as they were thick and dry. Just focus on the succulent, crispy skin ducks and you’ll be going back for seconds just like us!

As tempting as it was to return for thirds, we restrained ourselves from using up anymore stomach space meant for the hotpot - it was what we came for anyway.

From thereon we went full throttle on the hotpot stuff! There was a nice selection of raw seafood and meat, and an even greater variety of sauces and accompaniments. The vegetable section was good enough for us and as a mushroom lover, I was stoked to see four types on display!

The dessert range was good and they all looked pretty but that was about it. The few that I tried were either dry or too sweet.

Contrary to most of the negative reviews here, our overall experience was surprisingly quite delightful. While the staff weren’t necessarily engaging, they occasionally came around to clear off any empty plates and gave our soups a top up as needed. Both the hot and cold buffet items were also almost immediately replenished as they diminished.

Perhaps we got lucky that night? Or maybe because we came in at an early session? It’ll be interesting to find out if that was the case as we’ll soon be revisiting considering the excruciatingly cold season.

Cheap buffet with many choices. I like the fresh meat and vegetables here. But one minus point is for the soup. They dont have good soup flavours. The desserts are just okay, not the best :) But I still want to come back... Staffs are nice !

One of the best hotpot places in Carnegie. They have a wide variety of cold dishes as well cooked savoury dishes. Some of the best picks from this place were:
1. Roast duck (with pancake)
2. Fish mince/paste
3. Wide variety of sea food
4. Spicy soup is fabulous
5. Staff is very friendly and helpful
6. The desserts are great too

Overall score: 17/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: individual hotpot buffet in carnegie
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I love that this place offers individual hot pots, so you can choose your own soups. I enjoyed my herbal vs spicy butter soup combination - truly the best of both worlds. There are also cooked savoury dishes and desserts. As with most buffets, it’s good to allocate ur stomach space for the best dishes. These were my favourites:
✅ squid
✅ pork rolls
✅ prawn (not the freshest, but delicious in spicy soup)
✅ fish paste
✅ fish slices
✅ roast duck (they also provide pancakes)
✅ fried prawn sticks
✅ red bean pancake (savoury)
🆗 jelly was average tasting and the lime ice cream was okay. I was also hoping for a wider range of tofu, fishballs and fishcakes. The desserts also didn't look too appetising.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the restaurant is huge and very clean. You don’t smell of hotpot when you leave the place, which I appreciate.
*
Price ⭐️⭐️- we thought it was a bit pricey at $39.9 per person. If you order wine, you would be looking at $50 per pax. I don’t think we were able to eat $40 worth of food, as much as we tried.
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - some dishes were better presented than others. And in a buffet, it really depends on how appetising something looks. i appreciate how clean the raw hotpot food selection was.
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- the staff was constantly refilling our soup without being asked.

Really good hot pot taste, i love the spicy and tomato soup. The decor of the restaurant is full of traditional Chinese style. We went there at 6pm, so many cooked food we can choose, they are all fresh and warm. And there is also lots of delicious ice cream and jelly in the fridge. I really enjoy the dessert, very nice. Customer service is also great, they were all very friendly, ladies will put the pot in the right place and help us turn on the oven. What makes me most happy is that they will clean up the extra plates on the table promptly. We would like to come back!

This was surprisingly good for an unassuming place from outside. I had the oxtail/spicy soups which I'd order again. There is a huge range of ready to eat food as well that is replenished regularly. It's great value for money. I recommend prawns, BBQ pork, crispy skin duck, dim sum selection and fried selection. My only critique is that the dessert Station isn't replenished often enough. Other than that, I would definitely go back.
