Review Restore Cafe Bar - Caulfield

The owner is a Taiwanese couple and they have been running this place for many years. Now they are turning it into a Taiwanese restaurant called "18 Railway Bento" super authentic and tasty Taiwanese food, highly recommended !!!

Food is relatively cheap but you pay for what you get. The coffees are rather decent. Staff have been friendly.

Probably the best Taiwanese bento box in Melbourne

I didn’t know there’s Taiwanese meal hidden at a local cafe bar before my friend recommended! As a Taiwanese, I can say this popcorn chicken bento is definitely authentic flavour! It made me miss the Railway Bento in Taiwan so much! I ordered takeaways for a few times! The quantity is too big for me to finish as lunch, I usually keep another half for dinner! The price is economical!

I went for a meal with my partner at midday on a monday. The coffee was nothing special and the sugar at the table was so old that everyone of them were stone solid and unable to be opened. The cutlery is wrapped nicely in a napkin as expected but then tapped up so you cant even use it after eating. The eggs were soggy and gross and what can easily be a beautiful delicious meal was a below standard experince. If you want standard i would save the money and cook it yourself at home.

Never again. I've eaten breakfast here before. The service was lousy and the breakfast very average (could make better at home). Dropped in for some sushi today before catching a tram and was ignored for a little bit, and the sushi tasted old/refrigerated and not good rice. Cafe Uzu when it was open was far higher quality.

Basic Hygiene a worry here- Hands all over the insides of take away coffee cups . You pick cups up from the bottom not the top. Taste of the coffee was weak and awful. When coffee shops concentrate on taking orders as customers come in- However nobody actually making coffee - If coffee is going to be 10 mins or more tell me esp in the am. Give me a wait time.

Usually I come in for a coffee and avo toast. Takes 25 minutes for Me To receive my coffee and toast. They have gotten my Coffee order wrong on two occasions. Take in mind its never busy either so no excuse.

Restore Cafe Bar is a cute little hidden secret on Derby Road on Caulfield. The decor is clean, crisp and rather trendy. The staff are very friendly and the food / drinks were good. Prices are on par with the neighbouring areas. Would definitely go again.
great aussie and japanese food, all day from very early eggs anyway, big brekky, omlettes, soups, smoothies made from fresh fruit in front of you, avo and fetta on toast, add what ever you want, lots of sandwiches and foccacias ready or made on the spot PLUS the best japanese for a good price in melbourne. friendly staff and the only decent coffee in the area. Does get packed out at lunchtime during Monash Uni term time, so go before 12pm or after 130pm and youll be able to sit down.

The kitchen is pumping good food, and the atmosphere is relaxed.
Coffee is a bit disappointing, a bit bitter aftertaste.
It looks like it needs a bit of love and care. Hopefully owners don't let it run down.

You know quality has gone down when they cant even nail an iced coffee

$6 for a strange, blended frothy thing with cheap icecream inside. Diluted with way too much milk and had to leave half the mixture in the blender.

Lady couldn't even be bothered making any eye contact with me

With this restaurant you know you are in for a reliable, consistent, yummy meal that will come out quickly from the kitchen.
Formerly Uzu cafe near the Caulfield Station. Now is tucked down the street near an alleyway and has greatly expanded in size. It is a more cafe like environment now and there is more space to sit comfortably and enjoy your meal. The atmosphere feels less hurried because you are no longer looking at the hustle bustle of the train station and the students and charity muggers who walked along that stretch. You can take your time with the meal now.
Service always good. Had the beef don today w a green tea, love it. Can rate the octopus balls, chicken katsu curry, and wide selection of sushi highly from my previous visits here. It's such a nice place to chill so will keep coming back

Worst place I've ever been. Food is terrible and customer service is the worst I've ever seen.

On more than one occasion I have been and they say they are closing.. so rude. I gave them a chance but went back and got the same message "we are closed".

If they were closed, shut the doors and lock everyone out?

The staff is rude and I simply would advise to not go here.

Bought takeaway from this place. Found the pricing pretty overpriced. Menu was a little misleading because they said salmon sashimi would be served with salad (so I expected green salad or a modern sashimi salad), in the end it was just a few slices of salmon on top of some slices turnip. The sashimi was better than expected though, fresher at least... whereas the sushi on display didn't look promising at all. Service was so-so. But not very impressed overall. The matcha latte was decent though. For the pricing, I think I'd rather go elsewhere.
Cheeseburger Anyone? "Where's The Sauce"?
This was meant to be something else but they moved up the street and changed their name...
Katsu chicken curry tasted like old fish fingers and the sauce was runny.. the beef udon curry came out like a soup???! Both dishes also had a vinegary taste and seemed watered down. And pork dumplings were under cooked.!!!!. may i mention all the food came out with in 6 min of us ordering... how is that possible? This scares me.. anyway.. never to come here again. Didnt finish anything off. Cheeseburger in a few hours for sure!!

When Uzu closed down, I was devastated. It was my go to sushi place in the Caulfield area around the Monash University. But they didn’t completely close down. If anything Uzu has moved and joined up with Restore Cafe Bar to bring you both a Japanese dining experience at a cafe (along with the standard cafe meal options). And that’s why, they now have a Japanese menu. The sushi selection is not the same, but at least their ordering menu options have increased.

It's been awhile since I've visited Caulfield, so it was unexpected to find this place with a Japanese menu. But that's okay, we enjoyed the food with friendly service.
All I can really say about the area is that there's little variety/choice unless it's Asian or junkfood. And with Gloria Jeans no longer there, I only hope it's not going to be another Asian eatery.

If you frequent the restaurants near Caulfield University often, you’ll know of Uzu Japanese on the corner of Sir John Monash Drive and Derby Road. After a round of futsal, we decided to drop in for lunch but were greeted by a large closed sign. Luckily, they had only moved down the street to the Restore Cafe Bar.

We were a bit skeptical about the change because from experience, takeovers could go either way. I believe Restore was taken over by the owners of Uzu, so it was good enough of a reason to try it out.

The cafe has a more modern feel to it and honestly, not somewhere I’d expect to see a japanese menu! In saying that, the menu was very similar to what they used to have in Uzu, with only slight differences.

Check out the review of Restore Cafe Bar in the blog post below.

I just had coffee and breakfast here on a Sunday morning. The combination of a cafe and a Japanese restaurant is a bit weird but doesn't affect the good atmosphere. The food was good as well as the coffee. Friendly staff and laid back/relaxed atmosphere. Only 4.5 stars since the tab water cups are takeaway coffee cups which is just avoidable waste. Overall still a good place!

This cafe has been taken over by my favorite Japanese sushi restaurant . You can still get the cafe stuff but with the extra Japanese menu which is good. Shusi are always good. I like the rice which just adds the element required. Had a bento box too which was pretty decent one. Gonna try some breaky in next time visit .

Spring. Makes you think of flowers, sunshine, pretty floral printed dresses, hayfever and random sprinklings of rain. And I suppose that's what you usually get, unless of course, you live in Melbourne. This girl is a little bit schizophrenic. She'll be al

Truly wish the shop make more happy money!. I am not going to give review what they offer, rather what they reluctant to offer. :-) You need have some strength to ask for (warm) water. The might link it to your education level, personality and even your nation.
