Review Manpuku - Chatswood

E Teo
Manpuku Chatswood used to be my go-to ramen place in Chatswood. During my recent visit, I noticed they have changed the menu and few of my old favourites have been removed. Overall still a pleasant meal - tasty food and friendly staff. There is normally a queue so be prepared to wait. 11/04/2022

Dumplings were very juicy and nice. Spicy ramen had the right amount of spicy mess for me that’s not too overpowering. There is usually a long wait, went around 1pm and waited for around 30mins as it goes by the ticket system. Would’ve been nice for the menu to have some pictures but besides that happy with what was ordered
Hayley P.
Ramen is nice but unfortunately I gave a 4-star rating because they don't take bookings on the weekend and I personally think that's just silly. If you're not patient or in a rush, waiting can take up to 30-45 minutes. The overall experience was still pleasant.

Went there on a Sunday, around 2:30 and there was quite a queue. We waited for around 40mins. You first need to get your queue number on a folder in front of the door and they will call you when it's your turn. The food was good, so far one of the best ramens we've tried in Sydney! It was worth the wait. The staff were all friendly, polite and accommodating too! Go there around 4pm cos it seems like there's lesser people queuing for the restaurant around that time.

There’s a reason why there’s always a long queue for this restaurant: their ramen lives up to all expectations, and a few other side dishes were surprisingly very good too! Service is friendly and efficient, and it’s nice to note that all the staff were wearing masks and the tables were wiped properly for the next customers. Don’t be intimidated by the long lines, you’ll eventually get a table and understand what the fuss was all about. Recommended!

The raman's noodle, chashu were great, soup's flavour complexities are not quite there yet compared to other places and the soup felt a bit too running not thick enough. Goyza were also great. Overall is ok but i would pass if i have to line up for it.

Tried the signature ramen (No.7, $17.5) and should coriander (No.3, $19), changed to chewy and wavy noodle as I prefer thicker noodle. Excellent broth!

First time visit; came with family and luckily we arrived 10 min before opening and get on the front queues; overall ramen are good; services are fast and efficient; friendly staff;

made a booking for 1230

they seated us right away

service is amazing, super attentive staff

food come out within a few minutes of ordering and was hot and fresh.

pork on the ramen was super tender and well seared w good marinate and sesame seeds :))

the broth was the star of the dish, its a must try :))

also went here for girlfriends birthday and they gave us free icecream w a sparkler n birthday music.

overall one of the best experiences ive had !

7.5-8/10

1) Signature - Fatty tender pieces of pork, the flavour of the broth was more smoked ham

2) Gyokai Black - The soup was a bit nutty? but really nice

3) Octopus Karaage - Karaage needs Kewpie mayo and we didn't get any, but tasted how you'd expect it
Debbie
Food is very authentically Japanese at Manpuku. Service is friendly. I appreciated the thoughtfulness and efficiency of managing customer experience and safety with the current covid environment. This was my first time visiting. No wonder this place is always booked full in advance. Will definitely be back.

Amazing food, best japanese restaurant ive been to! Wonderful and super friendly staff
Joanne Liu
Love the service in the Ramen here!! will definitely be back to try it again
The soup is very rich and tasty!
Wendy Ly
The staff here are super nice and friendly. The food was absolute delicious and heaps of flavour.

Great food with exceptional service.

Manpuku is always our favourite stop over everytime we visit eastern subburb and even my kids approved it 🤭 they love the ramen here, specially the miso base pork chicken ramen !!! Our favourite, aj and also the karageee ..
the waitress are all super super friendly, they will greet you and sometimes even the chef came out to say hi! Everytime we go there, they will come and help setting up the table n highchair, they always cleap up before handling it to us. And theey always said its ok no need to worry because of the mess my kids made.
The place is a little small, hard to fit many prams, but workable! And wortheddddeed.. 💕
John Andersons
The ramen was too salty for me. The wait was too long and the food wait after the order was much longer. I was excited to visit given the wait and good reviews, but I don't understand anymore.
Faithful Freja
Overall: The best ramen I've ever had. Great flavours!
Food: Tsukemen (Pork ramen with bamboo) was amazing and very filling!
Service: Excellent.
Jasmine Wu
Amazing Ramen and restaurant! Been back numerous times! Only downfall is if it’s busy and you have to wait a while but still worth it! Couldn’t recommend enough!
Lina H
Waited for about 10 minutes to be seated on a Saturday night, acceptable. Service was good and food was served fast. I had the signature ramen with no extra toppings, the portion was perfect for a girl. It was the best ramen I have ever had in Sydney, really authentic, yum!
Yunuo Wang
I have to say I was really impressed by this ramen place. To be honest I never found ramen to impressing, it was just a kind of filling noodle to me. I ordered the garlic ramen, which was quite disappointing as it tasted too burnt. But I tried my friends’ soup, they were amazing. We also ordered a few side dishes which were also good. Next time I’ll definitely try signature ramen. Do not go for the black garlic one if you don’t like to eat charcoal!
Abbey Morcom
Best. Ramen. Ever. And the pork gyozas were perfect!
A K
We have been coming here for ramen for a while now and every time it’s just awesome! Service is great and ramen 🤩 wow. Sometimes there is a line, but it’s worth it.
Charmaine Naval
Not sure how it got the high rating but this place is overrated. Long wait line, price and their super salty ramen is so not worth it! Also told the staff to not sit us on the bar because i'm pregnant but he still made us sit there.
Sarah From @buranchieats
Among the best ramen places in Sydney, Manpuku always makes top quality ramen, accompanied by fast and friendly service! The broth is rich and creamy, and noodles are perfectly chewy. Portion size is generous for the price in my opinion. It is always busy, but worth the wait!
Zhenyu Zhang
Both the ramen and the soup are nice, lose 1 star for abusive credit card surcharge: 10%, don't they know this is illegal in nsw? Anyway it's a good place for ramen but please remember to bring cash
EL
Came here 15 mins before opening time on Sunday and already there was a line up. Can definitely see why! The ramen was delicious. The broth was so flavoursome. Service was great and so fast.
Dominic So
We ordered the Signature ramen and the Manpaku Red. The portion was perfect as we were satisfied after the meal. The Manpaku Red is very spicy as shown on the menu with three red hot chillis!!!
I was hoping for some buns on the menu. Maybe they can add that to the menu next time.
Overall a good experience and would recommend

My new favourite ramen place in Sydney! I had the signature dish which was delicious. The broth was hearty and not too salty which is a common issue I have with ramen broths. My partner had the garlic ramen. Soooooo good as well.

The meat was nice but could have been 100% perfect if it was higher quality (I'm comparing it to the amazing pork in Yasaka's signature grilled kakuni ramen). Still, amazing! I was really impressed.
Foodgal
Always contemplating whether the wait out in the cold is worth it. Can confirm it’s worth the wait! The ramen soup is thick and ramen cooked to perfection. Lots of unique flavours of ramen which you don’t see anywhere else.
Josie
The hype is worth it! A little far from the station but they really know how to do ramen the good and best way! So much to pick from although it does get packed so get in asap!
Gugu_Chailatte
Good consistent quality ramen across different locations. Staff is attentive and friendly. Service is fast. Long name/signature ramen is a must try - just the right amount of savory and thickness of the soup. I wouldn’t add extra chili for a charge as there’s free chili oil and chili powder condiments on the table.
Kalista Glory
Worth the queued. We were waiting about 20/30 minutes to be seated. Ordered the classic one (forgot the name because it has super long name lol), gyokai black and gyoza. Really love the Gyokai black! A bit underestimated about the black sauce because I've ever had a bad experience in another restaurant. But, gyokai black in here was sooo good. Super tasty but not too salty. Perfect! Will definitely come back and try another menu (curious with abura ramen).
Lizzie Le
Absolutely incredible! We waited roughly 40 minutes and it was worth every minute. Highly recommend the spicy broth and black garlic broth. The signature ramen felt very clean and light and is great for ramen newbies but the other 2 we ordered was just another level of happiness 🤗💗🥰
Janet
I visited Sydney during my holiday. The ramen is the first place I visit right after landing. The service is great and staff is friendly welcome you .Broth is so satisfying.

There is also a queue whenever I pass by at meal time. This time I stopped by for a late lunch on Sunday. The wait was about 20mins for seating. Once seated the food was delivered pretty quickly. The Manpuki Red definitely didn’t disappoint. The soup broth was rich, yet not too salty. Perfect spiciness for me, feeling the heat, but not inedible. Well worth the wait.

I've been here a few times. There's also one at Kensington which I also went to frequently since it is near UNSW. This one is always busier than the Kensington. You'll have to wait if you have a larger group because it is usually busy for dinner.

The food is good everytime I go, which is evident in the fact that I've been multiple times at multiple locations. My only wish that would make it better is if they get more space and tables.
Jasmine C
Service was fast, staff were friendly. It’s a relatively small place but well organised and clean.

Ordered no. 6 and no. 14. The soup was full of flavours but not heavy. The noodles and the eggs were just wonderful.

Will come back again.
Eunifoodie
Real rating: 3.5/5
The broth is great here - full of flavour and not too salty. Love their half boiled eggs too. Their staff are friendly but they were very pushy with trying to get us to order as soon as we sat down and trying to get us to leave asap but wanted to clear our bowls even though we were clearly still eating.
Sichao Hu
Very authentic ramen. They are the only place, as I have been to in Sydney, asked if I want the noodles be soft, hard or extra hard. The flavour of the soup is excellent. Although there seems usually be a queue, it worth the wait if you are not in hurry.

A true ramen establishment. Worth the trek from Chatswood station. Their signature ramen's long name will leave an even longer impression on the taste buds. Particularly enjoyed the Manpuku Red's slightly creamy/spicy combination.
Candy Huang
Been here multiple times: some of the best quality ramen broth, and there's a good amount of options too! Definitely worth the price :) my favourite has got to be the tsukemen, the stewed pork melts in my mouth and the dipping broth is very unique.
Benwonghp
Good food with excellent service. Makes the detour before the flight well worth it! If only Brisbane has ramen of similar standard. Definitely will visit next time I travel to Sydney.
Dominic Svensson
Made a big mistake at the Kingsford store by choosing the chicken ramen on the first page (I thought it was their specialty), which came with a very weak broth and boring dry chicken chashu - but looking at the menu now, chicken chashu is only an option and I definitely did not request it. So this time I get their “signature” dish with the really long name and it was much richer - not the really heavy kind but with a great smooth flavour. Everything else in it was good, the pork lacked a bit of flavour but melted wonderfully in the mouth. Has to be good at this price though.
Katie
love their noodle with think broth. the plum wine is definitely a great addition during the summer time.

Only thing a little miss is the food waiting time where we waited too long for the food.
Aimee.
My partner and I love coming here because they never fail to deliver fast and delicious ramen. I ordered the chicken ramen with salt broth which was light and full of flavour. Staff are super friendly and attentive. Overall Manpuka offers a bowl of Yum, authentic ramen for a cheap price.
Alex Ramsey
Absolutely incredible food.

Felt like I was back in Toyko.

Recommend this to anyone looking for genuinely authentic Ramen.

Will be visiting again!
Catherine
+3 standard points for food
+1 oodles of noodle variety
+1 the broth really does taste special
5. A ramen place I actually want to return to.

After overdosing on ramen, I’m in a pho phase. Despite this, I still wanted to give Manpuku a try, and I was very pleased! I had the one with the long name $15.5 (it’ll make sense when you see the menu) and of all the ramen broths I’ve ever had, I think this shop’s broth has the most depth. It clings to everything in the bowl. Yes you can get creamier or saltier or more punchy flavours, but this one has a deep umami from their tare.

They allow you to choose from straight to very wavy noodles, as well as an option to switch to tofu which I think is excellent for those avoiding a post-ramen carb coma.

Seating is very comfortable and spacious. Staff are efficient. It can get busy however, and I had to wait 15 mins for my order.

I’m keen to return to try more of their soups! I saw one with mango... has anyone tried this?

Noise level: normal to loud.
Accessibility: good.
Issa
Ohhhhh this is definitely the best ramen place in town! The taste is authentic. Even their free appetizers were good! Service is quick. You just have to wait in line for a bit as the queue gets long easily.
Linda
Came here late afternoon to treat myself to a nice lunch. The server was very nice and friendly.

I ordered the Aburi Chashu and it took around ~5mins for it to come. It's quite a large serving so it was very filling. I'm glad I ordered a coke no sugar along with it because the broth was quite rich so the coke helped cut through the richness.

It tasted great and I think it's worth its price (it's a bit pricier than the other ramen they offer). I haven't had Japanese cuisine in a very long time so I'm glad this was the dish I ate to reintroduce me back into the Japanese food scene :D.
MK Chu
Ordered the aburi chashu. Serving size was perfect and you get pretty much everything in this ramen: eggs, meat, mushroom, bean sprout, seaweed. Broth wasnt too thick either which I liked.
Service was fast and atmosphere was nice.
Also, if you feel like a drink that is sweet with a little alcohol try the peach jelly wine. I only got a few delightful sips from my friends drink, which she had ordered but It tasted great and refreshing, so much so that i am now on a hunt to find these cans in Sydney.

This place for me served the best bowl of ramen that I've had in Australia. we went there on a tuesday evening at around 6:00 pm, it wasn't crowded so we got a table instantly and I got the ramen with the long name (the signature) and a chicken karaage. I have to say the broth was excellent and the pork was delicious, The karaage was good too but the ramen was the star of the show, now I'm not a ramen expert and I've never even been to Japan yet but I know good food when I taste it and this was exactly that. The service was very friendly and they also paid attention to my partner's dietary requirements. before being here I had ryo's as my top affordable ramen joint but Manpuku tops it imo.
Strawberry_vee
Manpuku is a casual Japanese restaurant that specialises in ramen. I enjoyed the tonkotsu shoyu and gyokai black (soy based pork soup with hint of fish and garlic).
Pip
Hands down Sydney's best Ramen. Had their signature pork & chicken mixed based soup ramen. Mind blowing!!!
The broth was super delicious. not too thick not too thin.
Very on point. You must try. Yes, it is worth the long wait.
You will not be disappointed.
Lea
My first order, following my colleague recommendation, was Manpuku rice (size Large) and it was yummy!! Melt-in-the-mouth Chashu, fresh rice, scrambled egg, mayo and topped with my personalised toppings: crushed garlic, pickled ginger and pickled mustard leaves. The amazing part is thsi meal is less than $10 ;)
Wu Jingjing
Friendly service and delicious food, will definitely come back with my mum! Love their food served with details, though noodles tasted similar, can't tell thin soft or normal? Anyway, love this one. Worth the walking as well.
Feeding Sydney
Came back a few times already. Great ramen, great service and decent prices. Really have nothing to complain about hahaha If you do decide to come, gotta try their jelly wine!!!!!! So good!!
Jerry Lee
One of our favourite Ramen places in Sydney. Broth was rich and flavourful just like in Japan. We had the original and the chilli one and we preferred the more spicy one
Borzou
Very polite staff (as you can expect from the Japanese!) The restaurant was very clean and cozy and the Ramen was fantastic. Extremely recommend it.
Linna
I love this restaurant! There were huge lines when I came here, but we only had to wait 10-15 minutes. The price of the dishes are well worth its money. Unfortunately I didn’t get to take any photos. I ordered black garlic ramen and it was very filling and tasty!!
What The Prok
Best ramen in town! Huge portion, delightful broth and friendly staff. I recommend the Aburi Chasu, been here few times and never disappoint. Stop by when you're in Chatswood!
Lily The Frugal Foodie
Came here on a Saturday night around 6:30 and waited about half an hour for a table. Out of the tonkotsu, the long name, as well as the tonkotsu with garlic ramen, my personal favorite was the tonkotsu. Having said that, we all really enjoyed the ramen. We also tried three side dishes: the kaarage chicken was not bad but it was pretty average. The okonomiyaki on stick was so good and tasted very authentic and I'd definitely recommend. The gyoza had very thin skin and very tasty and this is recommended also.

One more thing - the male waiter we had was very polite and very quick and efficient.

You can get 25% off manpuku when you use the entertainment book.
Varun Singhal
Best Ramen ever!!! Thinking of visiting this joint after checking rave reviews and at last it doesn’t disappointed . We ordered 3 different Ramen including manpuku red, signature and ribs. All are deliciously good. I loved the pork broth the most as it is packed with flavour and with perfect thickness.
We also order one large chicken rish bowl but it was more of small portion. But again its was lip smacking tasty.

They do have small self service counter with ginger pickle and one unknown condiment. Iced water is much needed relief after ordering manpuku red.
Tulika Kabra
We went to this place for lunch with office mates. The place was quiet small but well utilised. There were enough tables. We had to wait for like 15mins as lunch time in Chatswood is always busy. Being a vegetarian, I ordered veggie ramen which was amazing. I loved it! My hubby ordered for a veggie salad which was mind blowing too. And ofcourse all my friends were enjoying the beef or pork ramens.
Food - 4.5/5
Value for Money - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5

Probably the best ramen I’ve had in Sydney. The cold dipping ramen reminds me so much of the ones in japan, the fried chicken is really good and not over priced. Went here and went to to ryo’s and I have to say I prefer manpuku hands down. If you haven’t tried it before, it’s a must!
Michelle Ung
We headed to Manpuku on a Sunday night. There was a short line (approx. 20 minutes wait), which i thought was short when compared to other ramen places I've been too (over an hour wait in the blistering cold)...
We started with entrees, the octopus karage and the agedashi tofu. Both were delicious ! The octopus karaage is a must try !
The ramen we ordered were NO.4 Tonkotsu Shoyu and their signature ramen NO.7.
The broth for NO.4 was very subtle and came with thinner ramen noodles (noodles can be changed). It wasn't as rich or as flavorful as I was hoping for it to be.
Where as for NO.7 ticked all boxes. It was flavorful, rich and the noodles had a nice chewiness to it.
Overall it was a good experience, especially on a cold night.
Would definitely be back, but I'll have to say it wasn't the best ramen I've had.
Sonja Ni
Delicious food and wonderful service! Definitely the best ramen I've had this year so I'm very happy with this place! I would 100% recommend to anybody looking for a nice, small restaurant full of great ramen and great service
Sean Burns
There seems to always be a queue here so best to turn up before it opens to avoid too much waiting time. They allow you to add your name to their waiting list before they open. Not sure I've had better Ramen in Sydney and the service is good. Had some chicken katsu as well that was also good. Definitely recommended.
Sickofspamandjunk
I always went to the Kingsford branch coz loved the long name ramen. Been to this chatswood one twice and got diarrhea both times. So did my husband and my friend on separate occasions. Now I have fear..
Jeanny Yuki
I was in that area came across to Manpuku on Tue lunch time. There was no queue so I gave it a try. I had the signature Ramen. It was deeeeeeeelicious! The noodles cooked perfectly. The broth was tasty. It's the best Ramen I had so far in Australia. Service was quick and the staffs were very nice.
Weekendfoodescapes
How are you surviving Winter so far? I'm feeling quite cold and in desperate need of ramen to soothe the soul. Matt and I had planned to go to Ryo's but after a drive to Crows Nest, we saw a sign on the front door saying they were closed until the 18th July. With my ramen feelings hurting, we decide to venture to Chatswood to Manpuku.
Jenny
My favourite ramen joint thus far. I’ve tried 2 ramens so far from here - the tonkotsu shoyu and the signature. The signature is definitely my favourite as the broth was very tasty. The tonkotsu shoyu on the otherhand was too creamy so I did not enjoy it as much.
William Wu
If you are eating alone, Ramen is definitely a good choice.
This shop locates a bit far away from Chatswood CBD, but has a high popularity. I went there at 6PM and there were a few people waiting outside.

I quickly had my seat because I am alone. This time I tried {Karaage Rice} instead. The large size is not very large to be honest. If you're super hungry you should go for two rice. The fried chicken tasted a little bit hard.
I also ordered {Manpuku rice} with small size to take away. Again it is a bit tiny but is suitable for a quick office lunch.

In conclusion, rice is average, but good for take away; Ramen is suitable for eat in.
Angiet424777
Been there for many times. Quality is good and price is reasonable. Expect to queue during lunch and dinner time. Actually enjoy sitting in the bar and see how they make ramen. Also recommend fried squid.
Naomi Wu
I really enjoyed this place! I got spicy ramen and i did feel some spice to it! I have been to many ramen restaurants and most of the spicy ramen did not match the spice that this ramen has. Service was prompt and friendly, we always got our water topped up without needing to request for it. Price was not too bad and honestly it’s worth for what you get. I really enjoyed this restaurant and would come back again if I’m in the area. Keep up the good work!
FR- Tastes
Ate here for dinner with a few friends, ramen was fragrant and had good umami flavours makes us want to go back to japan. Maybe a pinch of salt/dash of soy sauce would make it a tad better.. good menu selection as they also served rice based meals.. the ambience was nice and ‘homey’
Con: not much room to accomodate to much customers at a time, and may need to wait bit outside to be seated. Cheers for having us, Manpuku!
Gem
We had to wait a long time to sit down (annoying since it was a workday and we only had an hour lunch break) because the staff hadn't seated the groups of 2 in an orderly way, therefore making our party of 6 a bit hard to accommodate. None the less we waited, and the food was worth it. The ramen was delicious. The printed seaweed was a nice touch.
Orange_tree
Actual rating: 3.5

Manpuku serves up a pretty good bowl of ramen. I had the"long name" ramen (not going to bother typing it out). The chicken and pork broth was still quite rich with a clear layer of oil on the surface. Toppings included a monogrammed piece of nori, two chashu slices, an onsen egg, bean sprouts and spring onions. Unfortunately the chashu was mostly fat so it was hard to fully enjoy the noodles without ingesting a mouthful of fat. My friend ordered the soft bone pork as a side and said it was delicious. My favourite dish of the night though was the okonomi stick - the classic Japanese pancake wrapped around a skewer. This resulted in a creamy interior studded with seafood and a crisp shell from the larger surface area. Service was good and efficient but be prepared for a long wait during peak mealtimes. They have chicken broth ramen on the menu which I'm keen to try as I haven't found a good one in Sydney yet.
Rachel From @sydneyfoodfeels
I’m a ramen fan and this is one of the best ramen places I’ve had so far. You can choose between different types of ramen which is a plus for me. Downside is the wait time. Otherwise service and food is great!
Rachael
On a cold night we walked through Chatswood to wait about 15 minutes for this delicious signature no7 ramen.
Apart from the location and wait time, it was a great meal. We also tried some gyoza which was full of meat and flavour. The karaage was also crunchy and not too oily.
Service was good and they have self service water and condiments.
I would like to try more of their other ramen next time!
Kk007
Very tasty, rich, pork bone soup that I can never get enough!
The noodles are just fine but the star is the soup.
Fried chicken is also nice very moist.
Good customer service and very clean environment.
Jack
A long wait on most days, can get quite chilly on winter. Igor’s but they provide blankets! No tablet booking and the ramen definitely takes me back to our holiday in Japan
Da Vid
The staff are super friendly and efficient, the ramen however is average. I ordered the Gyokai black ramen soup. It was super salty and didn’t taste that great. I also ordered the tsukemen, this was also super salty but the flavours were some what decent.
High Tea Queen
Ordered:
1. Soy based chicken soup ramen - average to good (3.5/5), I understand why this place has a huge line at the front, it is one of the best ramen place in Chatswood. However, I’ve had better ramen at Brisbane and Melbourne. I personally find it weird to eat the seaweed that has writing on it, makes me wonder what ingredient they use to write the letter, food colouring?
2. Signature soup ramen - this soup is more flavoursome than the soy based chicken soup

Will I go back: yes, but I wouldn’t line up a long time for it
Jenny Matillano
First of all, the place is cozy and their toilet is clean which is the plus side. Food-wise, it was disappointing. Since it was my first time to try this ramen place I was abit excited due to its good ratings from zomato. Abit pricey for its serving (bowl looks huge but the soup was limited), although the biggest let down was the ramen soup itself. We ordered the chashu and shoyu based ramen since these are what we usually order in Japan and other ramen shops. We ordered their signature ramen as well, but unfortunately their ramen was bland and generic. Nothing really special about it. ☹️ For its price and taste, I wouldn't recommend it. There are other ramen shops in Sydney that's cheaper and way tastier than this. I hope they will improve on their ramens though.🙂
Al C
Four and half star, I guess there are few people really enjoy this place. I still think the ramen is not as good as the ones you get in japan. However, there are places in Sydney serve the same ramen you would get in japan.
Ann
Definitely wasn't worth the wait. I do not understand how this place got a super high rating. The ramen I and my friend had was very average, although the bright side is the soup wasnt too salty, but other than that, really nothing to talk about. Small portion, normal ingredients, also the ramen i had in black soup tasted really weird, didnt like it.
