Review Chatswood Bbq & Hot Pot - Chatswood

Good food here for lunch. Food came out very quick within a few minutes. The chow hor fun noodles tasted great and had some wok-hay flavour. The Peking duck and crispy pork rice was succulent and the meat sauce on the rice makes it excellent. The stir-fried beans were nice. The price is a bit high here at around $17.50 for each dish. Service is eh here but if you don’t really care about this aspect, the food is good.

Sadly roast pork was not crispy but portion size was good. Combination noodles was tasty and crispy. Service was average, there is a 30min limit on tables during rush hour. Would not be rushing back to this restaurant

Went for a dinner and you get what you pay for. BBQ pork ok, Perking duck piece is 3 thinks thicker than normal, Salt and Pepper squid not as crispy as it should be, the fish is deep fry and then with the source drop on top, the sticky rice is wet…. Is it bad? Well, it can be better. Is it worth? Based on the price, kind of. Will I go again? Yes for lunch and no for dinner.

Terrible customer service and a really bad attitude from the proprietor. She is extremely rude and arrogant. Even requesting for a glass of water, appears to be an offence in this place. The four of us spent $200 for lunch, but they refused to give us a little extra soy source - the most shocking part was that they also refused to provide a tax invoice. When we demanded to review the items on the bill, sje provided a hand written bill written in a Chinese script and then snatched it back after we paid her! Really shocking!

A great Chinese BBQ place, which the family always love and reminds us a lot of the BBQ places in Hong Kong, with the BBQ items hung in the front window, yummy food and the loud Cantonese being spoken. This place is popular and the seating is limited, particularly in these COVID-19 times when upstairs isn't being used, so there is often a wait to be seated.

We decided to come here on our weekly grocery trip as it was close and I was craving Chinese BB! We came around 2pm on a Sunday. The journey was pretty simple as we just found parking at Chatswood Chase Sydney and it's outside and on the corner. My initial impression before going in was that it was a very standard Chinese bbq restaurant but more on the pricey side, even with the weekday discount or the daily specials. The have the standard display of roast duck on the window of the restaurant. They offer free Chinese tea if you dine in which is standard. I ordered my standard two mixed bbq of bbq pork and roast duck with rice and my wife went with the char kuew teow. Both our meals were lacking in taste and meat in our opinion, and more frontloaded with carbs. Mine with rice and my wife with noodles. Both dishes were $16 each so we were expecting more value. I'm not certain why the other reviewers believe it was good value. The food were just a pass for me. They have a minimum of $25 for EFPOS and they have a surcharge of 1.5%. What's the point in having a minimum of you're still going to apply the surcharge? AMEX is also not accepted. Overall it's pretty expensive for what you get and even then you're not entirely full. There are better value places and plenty of options around here not to bother coming back here. I would only come back if every other option is closed.

The food here is good, especially the roasted duck. That's the best I've ever seen in Australia. But others are not as good as the duck.

Suprisingly poor quality eatery in a convenient location. Worth a visit if you like:

1. Stale produce. The cucumber slices accompanying the peking duck were dry and shrivelled. They looked 2 weeks old and should never have left the kitchen. The green side vegetables that came with the rice dish were past their shelf life and should have been trashed rather than served. The rice itself was a little dry and hard. For an authentic Chinese restaurant, this is unacceptable.

2. Feeling of uncleanliness. The walls had a layer of dust giving the impression no-one has bothered to wipe it down in months. Some of the bowls and plates had dark stains inside and should have been replaced long ago. The floor had a grimy feel. An occassional mopping would be welcome.

3. Food no better than a suburban food court. Uninspiring, bland, lacking anything worth returning for.

4. Unattractive decor. An interior that looks like a throwback to the 90s. Not in a good way.

5. Dull staff. The employees were unfriendly, lacked any warmth or charisma, and generally seemed like they didn’t want to be there (even when the store was around 30% capacity). Don’t expect service with a smile.

6. Unjustifiably high prices. Some of the dishes were inexplicably priced like a high-end restaurant. $29 for beef with black pepper sauce. Why? For a restaurant targetting this segment of the market, it should not be more than $20.

If my feedback seems harsh it’s because this restaurant should have nailed points 1-3. I can forgive points 4-6 if the food and hygiene is good, but this was not the case. If the operators prioritised quality food and memorable flavours over appearance, that’s fine. But failing on both fronts is just embarassing.

I recommend you give this place a miss if you’re still on the fence. There are much better options around Chatswood.

We had the set menu for four people which was $75 with a choice of two meals from the list with rice, steamed vegetable with oyster sauce as standard.

Soup is an extra $5 for the table which is good value but we only knew about this half way through the meal. I would have gladly rounded the meal up to $80 and have the soup in there and has it served straight up.

Well we chose the Fried bean curd, mushrooms and vegetables. All components were very nice and fresh and not greasy.

The Steamed fish - perch was the other and cook steamed. It was tender in the middle and the flesh came off the bone. That’s 90% of the dish in terms of getting it right. The sauce was all light, with a sweetness and saltiness one expects

The other set dish was a platter of a choice of two of Bbq pork, roast duck and or rosy pork. We went for the first two. The duck was tender and very tasty with a slight crisp to the skin. The Bbq pork was so tender and juicy yet with a slight toasted outer. It’s probably the Bbq I’ve had in years , in fact many years.

Oh and the toilets were spotless. Not what I expect from BBQ joints.

I wanted to have some clay pot rice so was advised and patiently waited 20 minutes. The pork ribs in black bean sauce were absolutely divine and soft and delicious. The rice though wasn’t that lovely crispy texture just yet.
There were lots of people in and out so maybe they have other better dishes to try next time.

Went to the restaurant on Good Friday evening. We ordered roast duck, bbq pork & prawn paste veggies. The restaurant was busy but it had reasonable table turnover, so our wait wasn’t long at all.
The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. It’s an ideal place to have a quick & satisfying meal.

Like its name suggests, the roast and BBQ meats are the specialty at Chatswood BBQ. When we arrived for a late dinner, most of the BBQ / roast meats had run out. Only the soy chicken was left and luckily, it was tender and moist. Top marks for this delicious chook. We also shared the salt and pepper squid and some green vegetables for a balanced meal. Along with some rice, we also ordered a bowl of plain scallion noodles. I'd recommend skipping the clumpy noodles. In short, Chatswood BBQ is your average neighborhood joint - the food may not be fantastic nor Insta-worthy but it's good for a cheap (for the north shore) and cheerful meal.

(1.5/5.0) Chatswood BBQ & Hotpot is a popular stall in Chatswood selling roasted delights. The interior of the nondescript eatery follows a typical Hong Kong-style eatery with white tiles, bright-lit displays of their roasted pork/duck/chicken and neon posters hung on the side of the eatery.

Like I always say - There isn’t any good Cantonese restaurants (including Mr Wong, China Doll, Jade Temple and Queen Chow) in Sydney and this restaurant is another example. The roasted delights were borderline unacceptable with some really soggy and stale meats

The roasted duck - mushy and reeks of a distinct gamey taste whereas the duck skin has disintegrated; the soya chicken - thick, hard and rough, it is likely that it was overcooked; the char siew was the best of the trio of meats I’ve tasted - flavourful but the meats lack a crispy charred exterior.

The most disappointing element of all - rice. Besides using low grade rice, the rice was poorly prepared. More than required proportion of water was used in steaming the rice, resulting in a plate of mushy and wet rice.

Walked around and landed here on a Tuesday afternoon. Surprisingly the service was okay. They have some combo specials for lunch but we decided to go for the actual dishes on the main menu. Really nice crispy skin pork and Shandong chicken ! Recommended

Typical chinese BBQ restaurant except their soy sauce chicken is outstanding, better than any of the other places i've tried. The chicken is very tender and the skin is really soft and chewy. The chicken itself may be a bit bland but if you get takeaway they pour a pleasantly sweet and salty soy sauce which goes very well with the chicken. Their BBQ pork is well cooked too, good balance between meat and fat, also has a nice sweet salty flavour. The ambience of the restaurant itself is mediocre, not the worst but its not the best either

I normally get my BBQ takeaways from the other BBQ place up the road, but thought I go something different today, and since it's been years since I came here I pick up some BBQ pork here this time. It was nice, but I rate my normal one better. The pork itself had good flavour baked it, a bit uneven in juiciness, some part on the dry side, some ok. Also they chopped the pieces in rather big chunks, I prefer thinner slices. Probably go back to my normal one next time.

A nice place to eat, but usually very rushed and packed.Food there are generally just ok, nothing special. The staff there are friendly but some may be a little more rough in the actions they perform. But overall a good place to visit.

One of three prominant Chinese BBQ places in Chatswood that's been around for years. The BBQ meats are as good as the other two places and they do a very consistent take away business.

Their other speciality are Hot Pots which are traditionally great for winter where marinated meats are placed on top of a mixture of sticky and plain rice. The juices and sauces from the meat eventually infuse into the rice. The base is slightly toasted and fragrant burnt rice flavours adds to the appeal and aroma of the dish.

The Roast meat rice dishes are larger than the other two shops and not just with the rice but meats too. The roast duck is well marinated and the skin is light and crisp but they tend to mixed with the older meats with the newly made ones so as to help turnover older products. This sounds worse than it is as the meat is still fresh for the day and the way to tell the difference is the colour of the skin (dull) and less crispy. However, they are not alone as most shops do this when you order two meats and rice as they could get away with it as it's not the central attraction. The roast pork was good though does not have the same issues as the duck as the cracking remains crispy for hours.

They also have an afternoon special too where various selections have a flat rate of $7.80 which includes an Asian tea, coffee or lemon tea. The sang choi bow was as good as you would find at a top end Chinese restuarant. The filling is very generous where there is a lot of meat for the price and not replaced by many of the fillers they could have easily used. There was plenty of smoky wok flavour perhaps a bit too much even but they used a bit too much hoisin sauce that made the filling too salty which could not even be melowed by the lettuce cup.

A good suburban Chinese restaurant where there are plenty of authentic and well priced options. The service is probably the firendliest out of the three BBQ restaurants also.

Kitchen @home shut for Good Friday so it falls on me to troll to feed the troops. These guys have been here for ages but i have not been here for ages, having been lured to multiple new outlets in the area.

It wouldnt have been my 1st choice at the time, as fate intervened to provide a car space right in front of the shop on vict ave. Am glad i bought their roast duck, which was juicy 3/5, the roast pork, done quite well, wished for more crackling n for them to remove some bones 3/5 and duck fried rice 3/5.

Service 3.5/5. In the sense that they were quick and responsive. Which was all i needed for takeaways. Troops fed, job done 😃.

A wonderful no-frills restaurant where you can get delicious "authentic" Chinese food at cheap prices. It's also where I've had some of the best Asian dishes from portuguese baked rice to flavoursome XO King Prawn hot pot. I will definitely be back!

Wow bad reviews. I can't say I had any problems. I got some bbq pork to go. The service was brisk but not unpleasant, and they were happy to add sauce when I requested it. The bbq pork itself was very tasty, and made a delicious sandwich when combined with the kim chi I'd purchased up the road.

Unpleasant. Nasty woman. Ordered BBQ Duck & Pork. As I ordered duck instead of chicken the menu stated extra $1. The $10.50 meal would be $11.50. Went to pay and gurmpy charged $12. So I said keep the change. Table sharing is mandory.

Overall, I rate Chatswood BBQ & Hotpot a 7 out of 10.

AVOID this place. Terrible food, even worse service which leaves a bad after taste.

Worse BBQ EVER!. Rude customer service, horrible food and tea...ate a quadruple bbq for $16 and it was burned, cold, dry, tasteless, bland, probably reheated, and a million other profanities I would like to say--the tea tasted like soil, the rice was not warm, the sauce was salty and when I politely tried to give some constructive feedback - the manager said not to eat there! And that's right! I ain't coming back. Not in a million years.
