Review Tea Journal - Chatswood

Maria Niedzielska
Fake and undrinkable ‘premium’ matcha. Terrible quality at a price point of 42$. No acknowledgment from staff and owner. Zero customer service, no apology, no refund or even store credit. ‘You buy it you keep it, not our problem’. Awful.
Christie A
Bought king’s oolong tea leaves and Jasmine tea leaves. They are amazing!
Abe Wu
Good 913 oolong fresh milk tea. Very close to Taiwan’s.
Richard Zhang
Really enjoyed the matcha milk tea with ice cream, they made it just right and you can really feel the effort they put into making these drinks... or maybe it was because i was the last customer of the day
Anthony Lam
The shop is tucked away next to a grill restaurant and you can easily miss the sign. They have a wide selection of drinks with a stronger tea flavour than most bubble tea places which I quite like. However, they are probably more expensive and the cups they provide have very little structural integrity. A normal drink will probably set you back $6.

A pearl tea shop always run out of pearl …. Understand might be cost saving issue. However, after 3-4 times attempts. We give up

Very good oolong tea drinks. Highly recommend best boba in sydney.
Nicholas Whymark
I really liked the boba that I had - I got the 913 King's Oolong Milk Tea and it was so good! One of the best I've ever had. There are many different types of boba found at this store that you are most likely not able to find at mainstream places. I also bought the King Oolong Tea leaves and I really like the quality and the uniqueness of the flavour. The staff were friendly and were able to help me out efficiently. I like the tea speciality culture this company brings. I also like that it is authentic to Taiwan. I love boba tea so this store was perfect for me.

Zen vibes. Zen place. Great place to chill and have some authentic tea straight from the mountains. Highly recommend.

Provide excellent tea culture and products for Oz people. All premium tea comes from Yunnan province of China where Queen Elizabeth once visited in 2005 . Yunnan Is a mountain province in China with a four seasons in one day climate condition that is very suitable for growing excellent organic tea for us , for example, famous Puer tea, Yunnan green tea in UK, a lot of Tea pots and tea serving tools will catch your eyes and enrich your tea knowledge, Tea shop is running under young Australia growing tea professionals who can share with you the tea culture from China and helps Australian be more healthier than ever by their premium tea products , come and try ,you will certainly love this

Wide variety of tea. Delicious cakes. However staff need to find another way to take the cake off shelf and put it inside the box without messing the appearance of the cake. Also the description of some tea are not accurate, for example the Honeysuckle tea is NOT sweet but the description said it's. Edit: I came back and they changed the cake box's design and it's not messy anymore. Well done.

Such a great shop. Amazing tea, knowledgable staff, and very welcoming ambience.

This place rocks, stumbled upon this amazing little tea house last night en route to dinner and we had to come here post dinner, experienced my first Pu-erh tea thanks to the very friendly and helpful staff. The cakes were amazing too

The fourth pour is always my favourite. Pu'er tea from Yunnan Province, China. The acidity in the hot brew makes my mouth water more and more with each pour, but it is the fourth that reminds me why I love this tea and shop. Subtly sweet and overtly satisfying, this tea just reels you back in for "one more cup" each time! Last year, the Tea Journal played a big part in my life, it helped me find calm in all kinds of storms and it allowed me to find satisfaction in where I was at in life. It is (what I might define as) what taught me to be comfortable in my own skin. So today, as I sit here after 10 months sipping on the fourth pour, I would like to say thank you to Sunny and Jesse and the Tea Journal for being almost mentors to me in a way and teaching me not only about tea but about appreciating subtlety and taking time to do nothing sometimes, but read a book and drink some tea.

The chiffon cakes are the best I’ve had in a long time!! So spongy!!
Wesley Wong
Great range selection of tea, even ice tea. Their cakes are hand made and taste delicious. Great service too.
Honey Quibulue
Great service, beautiful place. The teas and cakes are amazing.
Connie Choi
Amazing modern Chinese Tea House in Sydney, with a human touch and simplicity. Almost all tea were grown in their farm land in Yunnan^^
Matthew Campbell
Rude staff. Asked for two lattes and wasn't allowed to seat inside. Awful
Adeline Teoh
Good range of Chinese tea plus less usual blends (eg lotus pu'er). Additional infusions come included, friendly service, tranquil atmosphere away from the bustle of the station but close to the Chatswood interchange.
Jessica Hau
Absolutely amazing! A new and amospheric experience that takes you through a Tea journey. VERY ZEN and great service. The Japanese cheesecake is to die for. ♡♡
Kiko Parina
Good tea, good people. Try the barley tea and the cheesecake!
Fiona Lam
Awesome tea range with expert advice and housemade tea-based cakes!
Konalee La Spina
Amazing tea, amazing service! Love the atmosphere ✨

A super nice place to study or have a nice intimate catch up with friends. They’ve got a huge selection of teas to choose from. Their chiffon cakes are quite good and not overly sweet. The menu overall is quite steep in price.

I had the Houjicha latte takeaway. Although a little pricy at $5 for a medium sized cup, the subtle roasted flavour was delicious.

Great tea place with nice tea, tasty cakes and great ambience. Staff will come over to refill your tea. I am mainly giving a 2/5 for the service it provided. Usually half an hour before the closing time they start cleaning and would advise new customers to order take-away rather than dine-in, which is completely understandable. Yesterday this girl however, told me the shop closes at 8:30 when I arrived at 8pm, and reminded me again saying 'you only have 10 more minutes' at 8:20, which is 40min earlier than the closing time. If 9pm is the time that staff gets to leave then simply change your operating hours to end earlier, rather than giving an extended business hour to the public and asking cosumters to leave in a not very polite way.

Such a cute little tea shop right next to the train station. Came here for cake but didn't really expect much. Wow was I suprised. The chiffon cake was so good! The cream was so soft and smooth and not too sweet. Glad to have found this shop by accident and will definitely be back!

Traditional Chinese tea & modern souffle cakes served in a minimalistic cafe setting - interesting concept. Cakes have a subtle flavour (some may consider them bland) to not overpower the tea when paired together. Cafe is an informative experience with tea sets and quality leaves for purchase.

Very well made cakes and matcha latte. The tea and cake was served really quickly even though it was pretty busy when I came in the afternoon.

The matcha latte isn’t those really sweet ones you get elsewhere which I really like. 5/5 for the matcha latte!!

I got the black tea rose cake (I think ~~ can’t remember the name) looks and taste very nice. The cake isn’t too sweet either which is what I like but if ur after something really sweet for ur taste buds this cake might not be the perfect choice.

The atmosphere is very nice however when I came in the afternoon it can get really busy (almost no seats) ~~ so not super quiet but I guess if u come early morning I usually see the store being pretty empty as well.

Cake $5
Matcha latte $6

This cafe is one of my favourite spots in Chatswood! Hidden next to the station, it’s quite easy to miss this spot but whenever I go here, it’s always pretty busy. The cafe interior is sleek and decorated with tea pots and tea products that they sell. It is a small cafe and the tables generally only seat 2 people so if you are coming as a group, it might be difficult to find a seat during the peak hours.
Jo Kim
cake is suuuper fluffy and the waitress kept filling our teas for us without asking; at least 4-5 times? it is a little on the pricier side though around $10 for a slice of cake
Sydney
Cakes are good as always. BUT the portion size are sooo much smaller than before!!! This has been one of my favourite cake/tea shops. I hope you will maintain your standard.

Tea journal is this cute café right around the corner of Chatswood station. It has a really sleek interior and the central sitting area is surrounded by shelves of tea pots and other assortments. The ladies there are really nice and let me charge my phone on the counter. We ordered three slices of cake: passionfruit, matcha and rose. My favourite was the rose as the elements were really subtle and delicate. I wasn’t a fan of the cakes as I prefer my cakes to have several layers, rather than just one big slab of sponge. The passionfruit tea was super nice though!! Nonetheless, if you are a dessert fan like me, you must come and experience this café!
Erika-Anne
Simple and nice.
They do lots of kind of tea, you'll defs find what you like.
My favorite are just simple green tea and brend tea of Chrysanthemum tea.
Smells good and make you relaxed.

The Ciffon cake goes with tea.

Had a really lovely time at Tea Journal! Relaxed environment to enjoy tea, have conversations or simply study. Staff are in no hurry to move you on out of the store or make a purchase - instead they keep filling up your teapot with hot water so you can get the most out of what you've purchased. Good variety of teas and cakes to suit any budget.
Carrots
My new favourite place to study - the tea sets you back to $8 a pot, and the staff come around to give you refills. There’s wifi and it’s spacious. The cakes are light and are a good accompaniment to the tea, but aren’t necessarily the best.
Kristen Chan
I absolutely love all the cakes here. The chiffon cake is fluffy and light and the cream tastes strongly of tea, which I normally don't find in matcha/tea cakes which are quite flavourless. The shop is also an amazing study spot
Jessenia Jauw
I tried all of the chiffon cake variants. The chiffon cake is light, fluffy, and the cream is to die for!😘 I recommend you to try the houjicha and black tea & rose. The place is also really comfy, i didnt try their tea but I bet it would be good as well.
Espresso&Matcha
Stopping over at Chatswood for a brief rest stop, I took the opportunity to try out Tea journal,a tea store which has been highly recommended to me by a colleague. Apparently it serves quite authentic teas as well as scrumptious cakes. Situated at the bottom level of Chatswood interchange in an inconspicuous corner, it was actually really hard to find. After much searching we eventually had to ask another stallholder before we could locate this little tea cafe.
Iris Chen
Comfortable environment and nice staff. The Chiffon cakes are so creamy, light sweet sugar flavor, easy matching all the tea. Fits people come with a book or a computer, a sunny day and a whole afternoon!!! I am a tea person and I feel very enjoyable today.

Just found my new favourite study spot. Conveniently located next to Chatswood station, this tea cafe has everything you need for a productive work session. Fast wifi, spacious tables, and most importantly the perfect study snacks. They serve a wide variety of tea here to cater for everyone's individual liking and will refill your tea pot with hot water once in a while. The chiffon cake here is also to die for - not too sweet and super light.
Although the price for tea and cake is a little steep, I literally spent around 5 hours at this cafe so it's 100% worth every dollar.
Snailovesfood
It is located in the Chatswood Interchange near the Australian Post. I don't know if it is just me and my friend, but we were having a hard time trying to find the place. Yet, this cafe did not disappoint us at all. We ordered the black rose tea as well as the hojicha and the rose and black tea cakes. The tea was really soothing although we cannot really taste the rose. Whilst, the cakes were just bomb. I love the icing since it is not to sweet.
Brunonono...
We had the hojicja cream chiffon cake, what a wonderful experience ! The chiffon cake was light and airy, the cream was so fresh and the hojicja flavour in the cream was just about right, not too subtle, not too overpowering. Im never a fan of desserts or sweet things, but this cake definately has the perfect combination of flavours and ingredients. Very delightful to eat , will definately go again and recommend my friends to go there !

I visited this tea house because of their chiffon cakes and this is a must order! The flavours available will depend on the day and so far, I’ve tried the hojicha (roasted green tea) and matcha versions and both were really good. The chiffon is so soft and the cream is very light too. If you visit during non-peak times, it’s a lovely place to sit, relax with friends and catch up over pots of tea that get refilled without you asking. Definitely one of my favourite cafes in Chatswood.

Trekked all the way to try out their chiffon cakes and at $5 a slice, it does not hurt your wallet. Tried 3 flavours: earl grey, black tea and rose and hojicha. All of them had their distinct taste and lots of tea flavour was added. They make the cakes fresh daily, which explains why the texture and aroma is perfect. Will try out their tea one day. Some workers dont speak english very well and service is a bit slow, but who cares, their cakes are good.

Calling out all tea lovers!Tea Journal has been famous for their ranges of tea menu and their chiffon cakes. Located 3 minutes walk from Chatswood station, this tea place is easily accessible. Autumn Sunset - $8. chrysanthemum, goji, dried dates. It was nice and sweet. The chrysanthemum flavor was the most distinct one but there was a hint taste of goji and sweet dates as well.
High Tea Queen
Ordered
1. Different kinds of cakes - the black tea rose cake is the best followed by the other tea cakes, I haven't tried the cheesecake yet. I got to say, it's their cake that attracts me to this place rather than their tea. They have one of the best cakes in Sydney, not too sweet/heavy, soft/light and moist, just the way I like it, I never feel one piece is enough.

2. Their tea drinks are average but they have really good service where they refill hot water for you regularly. Maybe I'm just used to drinking western tea and Taiwanese tea, might try their Pu Er tea next time as a lot of the tea leaves from this shop are from Yunnan China where Pu Er tea are famous for.

Will I go back: Yes, it's a very relaxing place
TASTE & TABOO
Drinking tea is one of lifes simple pleasures. Tea helps calm and reset the mind - perfect for dealing with a weekend shopping in Chatswood.

The space within Tea Journal is perfectly set up for people to calm down and relax. There are a huge number of teas on offer (predominately Chinese), which means you are always spoilt of choice. The cakes here have also been a huge winner for me, as they are excellent and are served in small cost-effective portions so it doesn't make you feel sick.

I also attended on of their free tea classes on Wednesday night. This involves learning how to properly brew different types of tea, and sampling six different teas so you can find the one you like. Highly recommended.

Such a zen space for escaping the hustle and bustle outside. It was perfect to relax over a few brews of Gong Ting Pu'er. Looking forward to attending one of their tea appreciation sessions.
I Ate My Way Through
The key philosophy of Tea Journal is channeling the immersive, meditative experience and ritual of 2000 years’ of Chinese tea ceremony for the modern day, with delicious desserts to match.

Seven months and going strong, Tea Journal is a hidden gem where you can slow down and drink some tea. This was more of a surprise find by us and boy were we lucky! Manned by a family from Yunnan, Tea Journal is a chance to experience real Chinese Tea imported directly from the source...
A Food Fable
Australia and coffee are like inseparable twins, but there’s also something for that occasion where you just want to sit down for a nice hot drink, without necessarily having another shot of caffeine. In Chatswood, D2D and I have frequently walked past this tea shop and drink spot. So we finally decided that we would step in for a drink, after our trip to the dentist. We were greeted by a super friendly guy, who knew heaps about tea and also Pokemon Go.

I love tea, so when I saw this place opened, I had to come back and try it. This place is a nice deviation from the noise & crowds of Chatswood. The first thing that strike you when you enter is the space & the sparsity of the shop, there's a tower of tea on display, a big communal table in the middles and a few couches and small tables to the side. Other than that there's a lot of space, which adds to creating a calm surround to enjoy your tea and take some time out. A good range of tea selections on offer, I got the Lavender White, which was served in a transparent pot. I love tea with a floral tone, which lighten the bitterness of the white tea and gave it a good balance. Cake wise, there was only 3 variants available. I opted for the rose & black tea chiffon, it had an odd texture, more like a really fluffy soft bread rather than a sponge/chiffon cake, it was a little like chewing a not so oily brioche. The tea are a bit on the pricey side too at $8/9 per pot. The service was a bit slow, there was only 1 staff who's brewing & serving tea/cake, refilling customers' pot, taking orders, and selling tea leaves. Overall, pleasant, but not somewhere you come if you're in a hurry.

Not a Tea or Cake person, well I'm not myself until I checked out this place.

Tea Journal, located on the lower floors of Chatswood Station at the Interchange, this please is setup like your modern cafe with an Art Gallery themed where the walls are displaying the variety of Teas from different flavours to different regions.

Went in for a Tea Ceremony which not just educated but allowed us to taste the difference between the Teas (have me much more appreciation and a alternative to coffee).
Accompanied with the teas were these house made cakes, at first you may think they would be very sweet (judging by the looks). After you crack into this fluffy things, you realise they are light in flavour which is made to pair with the teas.

Next time when your around this area and don't really feel like a coffee, pop into this store and get something warm to relax yourself with something light to eat.
Asian Food Ninja
Tea kung fu Ninja!!!

I have always loved tea, as a non coffee drinker i need my caffeine and also to digest all these food im eating, so tea helps.

This place teaches you the basic knowledge of the art of "Kung fu tea" that is known all over China. Learning about different teas can help you pick which one suits you and more beneficial to you. (sleep, weightloss, disgest, calm, rejuvenate and more) i was told there are classes available to whom are interested.

Not only teas but they bake their own cakes to match with their teas. Should visit at least once, i would buy tea from them often but i live 1.5hrs away.

Until next time ..... YUMCHA!!!

When you think of a tea ceremony, its difficult not to picture classic scenes from Memoirs of a Geisha or Mulan. However, the Tea Journal, Chatswood brings this beautiful traditional to the modern audience in a refreshing way. The Tea journal is a unique spot that aims to bring back the art and meditation of drinking tea back to the experience. Its location, nestled around the corner from the bustle of Chatswood train station, lends itself to a casual retreat for a quiet study session or date as you sip at pure Chinese tea.
Ningjaeats
Wonderful tea cafe tucked behind the station. I instantly felt calm and relaxed upon arrival plus the friendly staff have a great wealth of knowledge about tea. I was fortunate to be a part of a mini tea ceremony where I learnt about the different types of tea, taste them and enjoy some delicious tea-infused cakes too! Would definitely love to make this a regular hang out spot when I need some alone-time, but be warned you may walk out a little tea drunk..

Not a bad place for cake although it is a bit expensive

The cheesecake was the best one i tried although its more spongy than cheesy/creamy

Not a huge fan of the tea based cakes, one was roasted matcha and the other was black tea

Looks pretty but a bit too expensive for me
Lazypandah
On my way to my car, I decided to get two cakes and a bag of tea to take home with me because I love drinking tea and what goes better with it than cake! I bought their rose and black tea infused chiffon cake and japanese cheesecake. The rose and black tea chiffon cake is super spongy and fluffyand you could really taste the aromas of the tea and subtle flavours of rose too. It came across strong yet light on the palette. The japanese cheesecake would wobble when you moved it and it had a light cheese taste and was also very fluffy in texture too.
Next time I will definitely enjoy their cakes at the store to get the full experience.

Read more on my blog

Tea Journal is randomly located behind the station somewhere. If you don't head out the back end you will never see it. The earl grey rose chiffon cake (~$45 I forgot ) is nonetheless textbook perfect. They whipped it up for me in the two hours as an adhoc so that was really considerate of them given the short notice.

The teas there are well laid out and of exceptional quality as one would expect from a tea place, nothing too commercial like T2 which makes for a very personalized experience. The tea concoctions are a bit pricey but worth a try. I aint a fan of cold brews. They have a wonderful setting for tea ceremonies too by group bookings only. Great decor and open space ambience for a quick catch up before boarding le toot toot.

Would recommend a visit.

Ashley Xu
Very nice and specialised tea place. You can say it's similar to T2, but it's not a chain, and has nice place for sitting down for enjoying a cuppa and cake.
The shop is identical to Rabbit Hole at Redfern, but more varieties of Chinese tea. The shop is owned by a Australian local guy, if I am not wrong.
They know their tea very well and have the confidence to admit when I brought up something that they don't know. That's good.

They also offer tea tasting to the one that you are interested, like in a pub you can ask for a sample before ordering a beer.

I think the price is cheaper than T2. But considering my memory about price has been always horrible, I cannot be sure about this though.

They are quite chill-out staff, no pressure to sale or impress. This is a place worth a visit.
The only thing is the location is not so easy to find. It's close to the station, but on the quite side: hope off the train station, look for post office sign and walk towards it. You will find it's on your right hand side.

Tea Journal in Chatswood Interchange can be your new hang out spot. They have a wide range of teas, traditional ones as well as new flavours. They sell chiffon cakes as well. However, they don't usually have large quantity for sale each day as they are there for their customers who loves tea as well as some sweetness to go with their flavoursome tea. Their service is great and they are willing to top up your teapots with hot water without extra charges. Check this out if you are a tea fanatic :)
The Weekend Foodie
As a tea lover i found this place relaxing and tranquil, located close to chatswood station (near australia post), its easy to hop off for a traditional cuppa. All teas are sourced and picked from tea plantations. Pair your tea with their green tea chiffon cake or japanese cheesecake chiffon - their cakes are amazing, light and fluffly. i can eat them all day. a must go for all tea lovers.
Sweetandyummie
This is a beautiful store that has a relaxing zen interior holding the most wonderful Chinese teas around. The customer service is very attentive here and if you have time to experience a tea session then do it because it's very educational and eye opening. The teas are boxed beautifully so don't leave without grabbing their delicious varieties.
Rido
Excellent tea, brewed well, and excellent cakes as well. Matched with excellent decor, good lighting, basically a modern sophisticated approach. Although the tea is expensive, the experience certainly makes up for it.
The one pratfall I would describe for tea journal is the seating is both limited and not designed that well (in terms of that the largest table is too large and not enticing to sit at). This may be because as far as I can tell, there are only two staff, so a large number of customers would be a challenge. Perhaps this will change when the outlet becomes more popular.
