Review East And West - Chatswood

Will
An overall good shopping centre but doesn't include all the things you might want or need. The food court is really good and the overall atmosphere is nice. It also has a hoyts at the top which is good. If you need something that you can't find something you need just go to Chatswood Westfield which is a benefit because it's right next door. Overall a good shopping centre but doesn't have everything you may need or want so thats why it's four stars.

The Mandarin Centre is always clean it full of interesting things. Does a convenient car park underneath and a wide variety of shops. It's always nice and clean and the staff in the shops are always friendly.

This place is so rundown and desperately needs a make over. The food court feels like it’s just the same stores over and over no variety. The only two saving graces for this centre is TK Maxx which is awesome and the cinema. The facilities are old and the amenities are always filthy. Plus, the male toilets on the first level have been “out of order” for over a year. Although, personally I can only attest to 6 months as I was here about 6 months ago and they were closed and the same sign is still up now and someone had written on the sign. It doesn’t look like they are ever going to be “fixed” see photo. This is very odd and lazy to be honest. Surely one toilet for the whole centre is not on. Two stars for the cinema and TK Maxx.

Highway robbery!!! The parking said free for 3 hours. By the time I realised I had to validate my ticket I had cars behind me so I couldn't reverse. $11 just turned my $29 movie ticket into a $40 ticket 😠 be careful is all I can say.

Mandarin centre is a nice shopping mall mainly for those who like asian vibes and chinese in particular. I always enjoy going there with my lovely asian friends. Food court has variety options and almost all food is kinda reasonable priced. The only issue with some shops is they fill up your bowl with rice and they put tiny chicken or meat peaces, this is literally not fair. Parking is not hard. You can access it from victor street and Albert Avenue. Also, it is very close to Chatswood train station, metro, buses and many facilities.

This carpark need to redesign. When it's busy, the cars were not able to exit as the incoming cars jammed into the same driveway. Easier to park at Westfield.

Lots of good food in the food court! But parking is so tricky. Need to verify before getting out.....

Honestly, it depends what you look for. When I stepped inside there I felt I went back in time about 30 or 40 years ago, even though I know this place used to have much nicer shops and was lots more fun in the past.. there used to be tech shops there, sound systems and Sony shop so when I went in and found they are all gone and we're all replaced with 2$ shop like shops I was a bit disappointed... Otherwise the food area felt a bit smelly and was only Asian foods.

Was skeptical about this place after a friend told me about how good they were as I’m very particular with my chicken rice... I was pleasantly surprised, probably top 3 best chicken rice in Sydney and the portions were good @ a reasonable price. Definitely will be back!

I've been going here for years. A nice cheap eat with dishes averaging around $13. Consistently delicious, and large portions. Really efficient service, the wait time isn't too long even when busy. 😍

Great cheap eat in Chatswood that's been around forever. There's really only 3 things to get here:
1. Hainan chicken, thigh piece is extremely moist and tender, breast is cheaper and a bigger portion. IMO, this is one of the best takes in Sydney, and their chicken rice is especially good. I think the condiments could do with some improvement but hard to fault the chicken or rice itself. Thigh piece used to run out very early but they recently started doing fresh chickens for dinner time as well.

2. Fried salmon head noodle soup, a little oily but great flavour on the fish. Noodle soup is decent too
3. Laksas, not the best but definitely up there. I'm not really a laksa fan but I've been around to most of the good places around and this one is definitely decent.

One of the quickest, cheapest places to get food in CW, have been coming here for years and has been consistently good.

Stewed beef brisket with egg noodles was waaaayyy too salty. Any seafood involved noodles hardly had any seafood, instead there was "fish balls" which I'm sure they were not made of fish. Minced pork and eggplant was waaaayyy too oily and hardly had any minced pork in it. Overall, nothing was worth the price.

My absolute favourite laksa in Sydney! They know my order by heart: vegetable laksa with no vegetables, only tofu. The soup is tasty, warms the tummy and its something I always crave

Really nice Asian style food. I was recommended the fried salmon head noodle soup, and it did not disappoint (but may be a bit out there for the more squeamish eaters). Solid delivery on other traditional dishes demonstrates why there is frequently a line for this place.
Service is curt but efficient and seating is not always easy to find

Quality food court food. Very nice salmon fish head and Hainanese chicken... chicken are fresh, must choose thigh. Since salmon is deep sea fish, no need to add so much source to cook, the taste itself is good enough.

Go for their hainanese chicken rice if you are visiting this place for the first time, always a favourite during lunch time. They're very quick in getting out the orders as well.

Probably the best outlet in the Mandarin Centre Foodcourt, it had stood the test of time & has been here for as long as i can remember it, and it is always busy. Best known for their Hainan Chicken Rice, and I was really craving it, but they sold out of the thigh cut (which is $1 extra), only breast meat was available, so I opted for their second best dish, the fried salmon head noodle soup. My friend ordered a combination laksa. They didn't tell us that the salmon head Soup was going to take ages (20mins), but the laksa was ready pretty quick, so my friend had almost finished her laksa when I got my food. However it was definitely worth waiting for, the fish was nicely fried, not oily, and the fresh of the fish was still soft & moist, almost slip off your tongue. The noodle soup was well balanced between the hot & sour. The laksa was authentic too with both style of noodles (hokkien & vermicelli). It had plenty of meat & fish balls etc. A good laksa.

Hands down best hainan chicken in chatswood and sydney (including temasak)

Chicken very smooth and juicy and the chicken rice complements its perfectly, full of flavour

Definately recommend and revisit

Great hainanese chicken rice. Make sure you go for for the chicken thigh which is $1 more expensive but definitely worth it.

Salmon head soup noodle and laksa was so so. Have had better.

I had friends recommend the Laksa from here so went on Monday 1st Feb at lunch time and order mixed veg and tofu laksa. Once i got back to my desk at work, i found a black hair sitting in between the veggies ( i have a shaved head by the way so it cant be mine ). I called up straight away and all i got back was " its very busy, what do you want us to do?" . No apology, no come return it and get a replacement. Very dissapointed and prob wont come back here again

Love Love their Salmon Head Noodle Soup!! Their Chicken rice also taste nice, but whenever I craves for fish head noodle soup, I always come to this place :) You can choose the type of noodles ie. egg noodle, rice noodle or vermicelli or even swap the noodle with a bowl of steamed rice (for gluten free option). For $13, Can you imagine in a middle of gloomy and wet weather, we are sipping the hot soup, slurping the noodle, biting and snapping the perfect crunch of deliciously cooked salmond head? It's time for Action, people. Go and Try it yourself :)

East West has got the recipe right on so many levels. Their consistency is in delivering high quality food efficiently even when they are flat out is a testament to their work ethic and the systems they have in place in their kitchen. Every dish I have tried here is good and we are talking about an eatery in a foodcourt! East West is situated in the Mandarin Centre in Chatswood and is by far the busiest food outlet in the centre.

Their top selling dishes would have to be the Hainan Chicken Rice. Be warned, the chicken is served cold but this helps maintain the texture and flavour of the chicken so vital in this dish. It comes with spring onion oil, sweet chilli sauce and a clear chicken soup. The only discrepancy is the price they charge. The chicken thigh is $1 more than the breast as many Asians prefer the thigh. From a economic viewpoint this would seem fair as demand for the thigh far exceeds that of the breast but from a customer's viewpoint, it's unfair because chicken breast is a more expensive cut of meat. I once asked them about this and their justification was that they buy their chicken whole rather than separate thigh and breast pieces which does make sense if true.

Other great dishes include their Curry Laksa - rich and creamy; and their Fried Salmon Head Soup. The Salmon Head Soup is truly excellent. The fish head is deep fried but yet the meat retains its moisture. Most parts could be broken off to eat and they portion it very carefully, giving you extra pieces when the head is smaller. The soup noodle that comes with it is also very authentic. The fish is grilled and the pan is deglazed with rice wine, stock is added with pickled vegetables, tomato, ginger and spring onion added to given a hot and sour soup flavour. The dish is so popular that you could see Asian families come just to have this on weekends.

I have been here many times and on the day I chose to do a review, they served their rice and soup in a take away container haha!

A most excellent har mee at East West Gourmet in The Mandarin Centre Food Court, Chatswood. Our eternal quest for books brings us to the Mandarin Centre food court in Chatswood. It's peacefully empty on a stinking hot Saturday afternoon. The har mee - Malaysian\Singaporean prawn noodle soup - is only available on certain days, which is a sign that care goes into the broth. Thankfully Saturday is one of those days. The har mee has the uber prawny broth that I love, I can smell prawnheads before it even hit the table, oh yeah. Plus there's thick and thin noodles, the most unusual but tasty roast pork, and some prawnies. A sweet deal at $9.50. Not all stalls are open but East West Gourmet is pulling punters out of nowhere. The two chefs out the back were working at double time to get through the orders before they closed. Stir Fried Chili Chicken & Beans - $9.50. The big hunks of roasted chillis give a nice balance of flavour and heat. The flavours are strong, a dish best shared. It was g
