Reliable and authentic Japanese food. Ingredients are fresh and cooked well.

This is a real chain from Japan serving "teishoku" so you can find things on the menu that represent the kind of food Japanese will eat regularly (hint: that's not sushi)

I was a big fan of Yoaoi however, my bad experience changed my mind! I was standing in the entrance door for more than 2 MINUTES and waiting staff to give me a seat. Staff was looking at me from the bar table and she was not willing to serve & provide a seat to me which we had eye contact and she knew my intention was waiting her to give me a seat. Please refer to photo of my meal portion which I have not eaten. I'm very disappointed that they provided me 1/3 of the udon size. I will never ever go to Yayoi Chatswood again.

Great service, consistently good food.

Very authentic and delicious Japanese food, very comfortable atmosphere and high quality menu. Bit of a higher end eat for younger people, but worth it!

Our second time coming here. Our family really enjoyed having lunch in here, and is my daughter’s first time to try Japanese Dish, and she loved it! It is a really good choice for a family, staff were very nice and the area stayed very clean. You will need to order on a iPad, which is also a fun experience to try. Recommended

Great customer service but I think average food. I would've rate this place higher if they have toilets within the restaurant. So for all parent beware!!! No toilets in the restaurant, you will need to travel a bit of a distance to an amenity

Ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Set Meal and the mixed box set meal, the taste of the food was alright, but the serving size (have a look at the teriyaki salmon set!) and quality of the meals for the price of the meals could not be justified. Usually a go to place when we want to eat Japanese when in the area, but will consider other better options.

The $6 kids menu is so good. $25 per head I’m very satisfied with the food.

Tasty but overpriced for what you get. Quality is decent and is worth a slightly above average price, but they charge at least double for every dish in comparison to many other Japanese restaurants.

It’s located right next to the Westfield car park and Quest hotel so it’s not in the main Chatswood area. Went to Yayoi on the weekend that they were having their 3 year anniversary so everything was 30% off (excluding drinks and dessert). We arrived at 5:30pm and were able to get a table straight away. There was a line outside at around 6pm so definitely go early if you can.

You order from an iPad which was easy to use. It was just hard to get the staff’s attention if you do need them for something. We got:
- Pork Loin Katsu-Toji Teishoku ($21.80) (what I ordered)
- Yayoi Gozen ($34.00)
- Tororo Nabe ($23.80)
- Tamago Yaki ($8.50)

Everything tasted really good but was pricey. Particularly the Yayoi Gozen which has just little bits of and pieces of things. My dad thought that it wasn’t worth the price.
The Tororo Nabe actually had Udon in it (didn’t say on the menu) but my mum really enjoyed it.
The pork loin was really nice and I think is worth the price of it. The tamago yaki wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be so had to add a bit of salt to it.

Overall, I probably will only go back if they have another discount going on.

Worth the price with the amazing foods! Will def come here more ofen.

Good food, easy to order through touch panel.
Ordered miso nasu teshoku, with adding salmon sashimi.
Total bill is roughly $27.

Good rice (I guess rice is from Japan), but cooked slightly watery, texture was too soft. Also the serving size is quite small.
I'm not a huge eater, and felt comfortably after eating. For a big eater, you need to 2 dishes!

Service was not great. You need to get attention. I was confused the water was self-serving or not. I got my water by myself, but other table received from waiters plus top up.

It is a chain restaurant, I would not mind to come back for food again.

Firstly, I’d put it out there that the service is good, prompt and your typical Japanese culture politeness.

The place is outside the Westfield, away from the more busy Victoria Ave but easy enough to find with parking right next door.

We had the:
Unagi Hitsumabushi - Grilled eel w rice combo.
➕ eel was cooked to perfection. Nice presentation.
➖ wish there was more of it. I think I read a review somewhere that the portions could be bigger, both rice and protein.

Shima Hokke Shio-Yaki Teishoku - salt grilled mackerel set.
➕sorry but we couldn’t find something outstanding.
➖very fishy smell with lots of bones. But to be fair, the menu did warn of this.

Beef Udon
➕/➖similar to the mackerel. Not bad but nothing special either.

Worth a mention at the moment the Chatswood branch has 50% off kids meal. So that works out to $6!! Hopefully not all small portions like the adults.
Food Adventures With M
Came here during their 2nd anniversary celebrations where they had 30% off the total bill.
I ordered the Unagi Hitsumabushi Teishoku ($26) which came with a few side dishes and the main dish, Unagi (eel) on rice. The eel was quite chewy and not soft as a good eel should be but the flavours were good. For first timers, there is an instruction sheet on how to eat the hitsumabushi as there are a few ways you can enjoy the dish. I also think the portion is not that big so for hungry people this probably won't be enough.
I also ordered the Matcha Anmitsu ($8) for dessert which had a strong matcha flavour. I think for $8 though you would expect something a bit more.

Overall, for the price I paid I think its really good value but for the regular price, I would probably consider again.

Yayoi serves a nice variety of teishoku and à la carte. This is one of my dad’s favourite restaurant in Chatswood and I enjoy eating here as well. The only downside is there’s always a long wait.

My daughter and I had a lovely meal here before the movies . We both chose the salmon teriyaki meal which included miso soup, rice and a spinach/carrot salad. Service was friendly and very courteous and the food was really tasty
GymEatSleep
I had the eel bento and karaage chicken. The eel bento tasted pretty good but pretty pricy for 4 small pieces of eel and a thin layer of rice in a deep bento box. I usually not a big rice fan, when I say it’s a thin layer (of rice) I mean thin, lol. The karaage chicken was not even crispy. Disappointed about this place as I was expecting they should be as good as their city branch.

Service and food is good. Very expensive for what it is. After paying ~~$50 per head still need to go through Maccas drive through. Very strict on ordering times. Last order is 8.30PM. If you ordered at 8.31PM, too bad....

Brought out the bill before we asked for it. Feels like they wanted to clear the table for new guests. Bit disappointing.

Food authentic but nothing special.

Yayoi is situated in a very quiet street and quite far away from Chatswood central. But it is walkable from Westfield or Chatswood chase. We were impressed by the ambience. It is very clean, tidy, modern and shiny. The staff are very friendly and polite, they were well-trained, for example, when they give us the bill :))) We came in when they nearly close but they dont give us the felling that they are chasing us away. Ok. Now is the food. They will give you the menu and you put the order through an ipad. You can add on extra or take out ingredient that you dont like. Thumbs up! The food came out quickly. The salmon I had is fresh and order dishes are so yummy.
I will definitely try it again but on my payday haha since the food is a bit high in price. But not overprice at all. I think you pay for the fresh food and nice ambience and good service, so in the end it is reasonable price.

I have been here 3 times and it never disappoints. Yayoi provides a tasty and balanced meal, leaving you feeling satisfied but also clean. I recommend trying the Special Eel set and experimenting with the different way to eat it.

Staff were very attentive and friendly, better service and environment than the yayoi in the city. Food was very tasty, dashi sauce with the unagi was lovely. Would recommend the chatty location if you haven’t tried yayoi before.

nice and clean place with timber color interior which provided relaxing and easy ambience. every table has a wall tablet for ordering food. it makes sure you get the right food rather than go through difficulty of ordering with Japanese speaking staff which it's not uncommon. foods are presented OK and taste fine and lightly flavoured relatively. staff always have nature smile on face and very polite just I was told there is no table salt. not sure she didn't understand or they just don't provide. doesn't really bother me anyway.

The service and environment is very good. The first time to use pad to order and the status can be checked on pad as well.

Grilled eel is great and forget to take photo.😂

Tried a variety of a la carte dishes and set meals (egg omelette roll, chicken teriyaki, chicken karaage, pork katsu, mackeral, a beef dish, seaweed salad, green tea ice cream, matcha mochi). They were all fresh and tasty and served up quite quickly after ordering however are quite small portions (4 of us had 4 set meals, 3 extra a la carte dishes and dessert). Standout was chicken karaage- super crunchy with meat inside soft and juicy. We ordered a bottle of wine which came out quickly but only with 3 glasses. It took awhile before they brought out 4th glass.

Decent food at the YAYOI outlet in chatswood, however there are definitely better Japanese eats in the area for a similar price. But what really impressed me in this outlet is their standard for cleanliness and customer service.
I didn't even know there was a Yayoi in Chatswood until a friend recommended. There was a 24/7 one in the neighbourhood I stayed in Tokyo but ironically, I never had the time (or stomach space) to go there even though it opened throughout the night. It's a good place to go if you want your own meal since this sort of stuff is hard to share.

I had the miso saba teishoku set which features a piece of grilled mackeral covered in a miso sauce and some veg. Served with rice, miso soup, pickles and spinach, it was a decent dinner. My friend thought her chicken nanban was a bit soggy. Yayoi has a pleasant minimalist interior that feels spacious. I've heard it can get quite crowded but there wasn't any queue when we visited on a Friday night. All ordering is done via a tablet and food came out fairly quickly. The counter seating is great for solo diners.

Seems very popular with the local community. Great food and service !serving size was good and fresh and novel idea of screen ordering. Will go again!

You order via an iPad which can be hard for everyone at the table to see. The food is alright for the price. The chicken namban had a nice soft texture with a well flavoured sauce. However, the pork katsu was dry and had a hard texture. The side dishes which accompany the teishoku meal are very ordinary, nothing special. Also, there is no free water available.

We are so happy they opened this restaurant in chatswood, the menu is set out reasonable priced for the quality and quantity. The set menus are amazing, so much favour and variety. We loved the presentation of the food. Very efficient service!
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

Yayoi is a Japanese restaurant in Sydney that does great rice and noodle dishes. We were excited when they finally opened in Chatswood and went to celebrate Mother’s Day there. We decided to go with three set meals, meaning all meals came with rice, miso soup and pickled vegetable condiments.

First we ordered the Wagyu Sugiyaki bowl which came with wagyu beef, mushrooms, chinese cabbage, tofu and carrot in a udon noodle broth. There was also an egg soup which we could dip the beef in. This was the perfect winter’s day dish, the soup was delicious and warming and the wagyu was tender and full of flavour, with lots of vegetables for nutrition!

Had casual dinner at YAYOI on Saturday night. Only waited for 10 minutes before been seated. The food is very light and healthy, typical japanese. You should definitely try their Hitsumabushi. It is special! Unagi don was really good as well. I would recommend Matcha Anmitsu for dessert. I really liked the environment and service too.

We came here on a Sunday night and it was really busy. We had the Unagi set with clams and the Unagi was really well cooked. It tasted really tender and delicious! The mackerel with miso sauce was really good as well. Although you have to watch out for the bones. The Pork Katsu dish was just alright. A lot of eggs and onions were used in this dish, which kinda took over the taste but not too bad though. The dessert of green tea ice cream with red bean, mango and jelly, topped with brown sugar on top was excellent. A perfect way to finish! Overall the food was of pretty high quality and we would likely visit again.
Feed Me Food
A truly average place. The food is okay for the price, but the portions can be quite small. I have tried several different dishes here but all the tonkatsu dishes have a very tough texture that is unappealing. The udon noodles in the sukiyaki have been put in and boiled from the start, making the noodles very soggy. The oyakodon tastes good but only comes with 5 pieces of chicken. The atmosphere is quite good, however, with a modern and new look to the place, that looks quite similar to its CBD counterpart.

A lovely new Japanese restaurant that serves Japanese set meals. Their white rice is absolutely delicious and the dishes are very flavoursome. It is all freshly prepared and the presentation is quite nice. I really like the green tea ice cream with black sugar syrup. The price is a tad on the high side. $18-$25.

Yayoi has definitely now become one of the more iconic go to eating destinations in Chatswood's CBD.
They get super busy and the seating is enough but not plentiful.

The wooden, bright interior is a pleasure to be surrounded in and you are welcomed in the classic Japanese manner.

My mum, brother and I ordered the wagyu udon, the chicken and pork udon set, with a side of clams, as well as a matcha ice cream to end.

The meals are very refined in its taste, approximately $17 a dish is not hard to spend in Chatswood, but this was value for money. For both main dishes, the soup was just like *oh baby* in yo mouth!! :P the udon itself is soft and does not have the heaviness of most carbohydrate components of a dish.
The clams were soft and well cooked, the miso soup was pleasant, but nothing too special. However, that was fine since it wasn't the main flavor of the set.

Matcha ice cream for dessert is something I ALWAYS love! $5 (
Bella's Review For U
This place is is nice.. I've had a few meals here, all the food is fresh, tasty and ordered thru an iPad. My favorite is the Chicken Namban set $18.80. I've Had the wagyu sukiyaki set $25, very flavorsome but for me it was on the salty side and slightly overpriced for what you get. The miso pork loin katsu was nice but I found the sauce a tad on the sweet side. I prefer the Pork loin katsu toji jyi instead.
If having set meals you can upgrade your miso soup to a clam soup for an extra $3. I'm not a fan of clam but the people I went with loved it, had lots of clams.
Portions could be bigger for the price you pay, but I guess it leaves u room for green tea ice cream.

The restaurant seats about 50 ppl and always has a wait during peak dinner time. Not great to take a date as they try and get u out as fast as possible.

Oh and there are no toilets in the restaurant, the toilets arent that close, u have to go around the corner to the hospital, down the lift to the basement level carpark and turn right.

The food here is fresh, flavoursome and nicely portioned. I had the salmon which was cooked well and the sauce really gave it a good kick! The matcha ice cream with red bean paste complimented each other very well!! Would recommend those two dishes. I love the iPad ordering system, but the button to ask for help or assistance clearly did not get their attention. They were also hasty to give us the bill at the end for us to leave which was disappointing. But overall, nice clean food!
EATING BAE
Wagyu Sukiyaki is the signature and most popular dish here, the beef was so tender, juicy and fragrant, the broth enhanced the beef flavour, they went so well together. Dessert was good, green tea ice cream was less sweet, that how I like it, after taste was bitter, that how the green tea should be, green mochi was ok, not bad but not my favourite. Service was quick, lovely and efficient. Price was a bit expensive.

I ordered the omaze don and to be honest, didn’t find it that exciting, in fact if anything it was rather bland and average. The eggplant and mackerel set meal was a far superior choice, with the salt-grilled mackerel being a clear winner. As a whole, all the ingredients used are fresh and of high quality, with the added sashimi in the set also being quite tasty. You also must try the matcha ice cream while you are here as it was so delicious. Comes with mochi as well, and this too was delightful and somewhat satisfactory as I had originally wanted the mochi dessert dish.

Had a good lunch here today. We had the pork loin katsu-toji and the wagyu sukiyaki. Both dishes were nicely presented and the portion sizes were generous. Out of the two dishes, I definitely preferred the beef although the udon noodles were slightly over cooked for my taste. The pork wasn't bad, but it had quite a strong smell / taste like maybe the pork was getting slightly old. This wasn't a big deal and the dish was still ok.
Overall I did really enjoy it here and I would definitely go back. I'd probably rate it slightly higher if I didn't have the pork.

Similar to the store in cbd galeries yayoi has opened in chatswood!

Love the ungai rice here as well as the mix toji. Slight edge to the unagi rice, just very delicious overall! There are three ways to eat it, make sure you try alll three and ask the staff how to try the three ways. Best way imo is with wasabi and shallots.

Definately get the teishoku set and the salmon sashimi that goes with it. The sashimi is quite fresh and the cut is pretty good for the price you pay.

The dessert is good and definately recommend the anmitsu and matcha warabi.

Definately recommend and revisit
